[Q] Weak wifi and getting hot - Samsung Galaxy Alpha

Just had my Alpha a couple of weeks and already a couple of issues. No problem noticed until just gone away on a short break, hotel gives us free wifi but the Alpha was having severe problems in getting a proper connection and when it did it was painfully slow and yet on picking up my iPad Air a very good instant and strong connection with no trouble at all so is the Alpha wifi particularly weak or is the iPad particularly strong.
Then this morning having charged my Alpha overnight as usual went out onto the balcony and after just a few minutes of no wifi connection at all I noticed the battery level had dropped 5% in about the same amount of minutes. Went back to my iPad, then went for a shower and picked up the Alpha to go for breakfast and nearly dropped it as it was hot enough to fry my eggs on. Then noticed the battery level had dropped to 60% without any use in less than an hour. Switched it off, then went to breakfast, switched it back on and since then it's behaving normally.
Any suggestions?

Try to close the running apps when it's working so slowly/laggy....
Also try restarting it if it's hot for more than 5min 'cause when it's getting hot it means some app is stuck and running on full load which eats your battery.. I am blaming the piece of **** TouchWiz for this tbh.

[Q] Mozart battery life

Hi!
How long does your Mozart work.
My settings: WiFi & BT are off / Exchange sync is permanent.
Around 30 mins calling time a day.
Battery is empty during the afternoon. It simply does not "survive the day" and has to be recharded. Is my device not ok, or do you have the same experience?

Are you on telstra network perhaps?
I read something on the internet about a bug in the Exchange service, it reestablishes the connection every minute, so thats why you battery is empty so fast. (probably)
HTC is working on the problem. but if you are on a Telstra network there is a workaround http://blog.walshie.me/2010/11/15/htc-mozart-telstrabattery-issues-solved/
Hope this helps
I was not too pleased about the battery myself, but it was never as bad as what you're reporting!
I've always had Wifi turned on and use Exchange email... and have been continuously using the media player or an app or game now and then... and it lasts me a full day... There was once or twice when i had been continuously at it that it had 20% left by evening...
I posted about it on the forums too and someone said it'll automatically adjust itself... i was a bit skeptical, but today it still has 60% battery left and it is 12:15 AM now...! (though i did have Wifi turned off for the most part today)
Hello everyone
I have the htc mozart one month offered by the girlfriend. I used the mobile phone several times and even with wifi and bluetooth on and always lasted one day (24h) without problems. yesterday charged at 24h and at 15h had no battery. had not even turned on wifi or bluetooth. since then the battery does not last anything I do not know what happened but its not and nomal. Somebody now something about? This its really a joke but I know that the battery lasts well over

were you in an area with poor cell reception? if yes, that would affect the battery because the phone is constantly working to maintain a signal. i'm using an 1800 mAh battery from Mugen and it's easily lasting 32+ hours with 1 Push Exchange account, BT/Wifi off, 2 POP accounts (1 hour retrieval times) and about 40-80 minutes of calls when i'm in an area with a strong signal. i spent two weeks at a client site where i could barely get 1 Bar (and most often had "No Service) and the same battery would be depleted in about 18 hours. when working in an area with great cell reception, battery life is great for my use. on 2 occasions i forgot to charge the phone overnight and had about 15% battery left when i woke the next morning. in case you're wondering, i'm using the HTC TestTool - Battery Tool (v1.20.0.0) to determine battery percentage. you can find in in the WP7 forums.
I'm using the phone as I have always used but something happened that makes the battery last while. without stirring overnight stays with half in morning
i leave in portugal and use optimus
sotty bad english

That the point you living in area where the cell phone reception is really bad!! It's same for me when I go to my Island in carraibe !!But where I living Paris and London I can keep the battry 100% at 7h in the morning till late in evening around 2h at 20%; Using all day Wifi, TV, Game... So the issue about battery is not the phone but carrier issue.
Because when I take a "Metro" or "Tube" where the reception are really bad my battery drainning fast....
For me it last for a day, since i don use 3g n wifi, i use followin settings.
3g turned off
wifi turned off
Always try to close the running apps using the back key.
everynite i switch my phone to low brightness, so that i don need much time in charging my phone in the morning b4 i leave to work.
with every settings turned on the battery last for 15-17 hours.
hope they fix the battery issue in the comming update.
With heavy usage 9-10 hours battery life for me.3g,4 e-mail account.One is push,the others checking every 15 minutes(almost getting 150 e-mails every day).1 hour talk time,Web browsing over 3G,listening music 30-45 mins,playing games 15 mins.(Brighness medium,location service all on)
using dark back grounds will help save power, but everyone nows that dont they.
Except it won't help with Mozart. It only works for AMOLED displays, Mozart has an LCD.
it has at least awesome standby time...
the red light once began to flash when i went to sleep.
when i got up around 9-10h later the phone was still on.
only bluetooth was off...
even more standby power, im back to report:
3+ DAY STANDBY!
i charged my phone friday 02-11-2011
untill today (tuesday) it still lasted,
same-time as last-charge 02-15-2011
thats incredible 4 days...
WLAN was OFF the most time
3G on
only did around 4-7 2min calls
didnt play much with it,
only quickly checking for news in market from time to time
had 2 reboots because of that
and did around 5 pictures.
i think its pretty awesome times...
yeah with heavy usage its only 1 day
but still its a phone and its standby is great
There's no surprise that the phone lasts long when you don't do anything with it.
As far as I can see, the battery annihilating combination is browsing the web via 3G. Guess IE was optimized for speed to impress with responsiveness. This probably won't change much until IE9 comes (which may or may not help). The power-hungry screens are a universal problem on all current HTC devices, with WP7 and Android equally, so this won't change.
The real killer is WI-FI, i upgraded to the MUGUN 1800MiH Battery, and im not looking back, it lasts way more than 50% longer than the standard battery did.
for £28 with free delivery, you'd be silly not to buy it.
also, as an aside, the Battery arrived within 4 days from HONGKONG, which is great because it advertised that the battery would have a 10 - 15 day shipping time.
Okay... what if
had 50% power left the night before...
after 6 hours sleep
phone is out of battery @@
Now that aint right, im guessing something is running under locked screen and iono what!!! but i always jump out of any program when im about to sleep too, so it cant be because of that
In the past, i could have standby time for a long period especially after one night. But the past two days when i woke up, it always ran out of battery!!
the first two days when i got my mozart it died on me due to low battery. but when i upgraded it to nodo(i think), the battery is longer now. but i will check some more.
my battery usually lasts 24 hours. But when I open htc weather, starts to pick up GPS signal if I leave soon have a very abnormal wear of the battery.
I tried with other Porgram gps and the same happens, the battery does not last 10h

How HOT does your EVO 3D get?

I was using the phone for a while and noticed that it was getting quite hot. Signal strength was poor where I was, and I left the 4G antenna on despite the fact that the phone was gunning at 3G.
Mines remained cool, and I have been using it heavily. It may be the 4G radio that's is making the phone hot.
Low signal areas = death to battery.
I used to have a blackberry tour 9650. That badboy could run almost two days with relative use.
I go into a deadzone at work and my phone would start warming up and getting super hot trying to find a signal.
It would go from 100%->40% in about an hour and a half (with no use of the phone whatsoever since the damn thing couldnt get service) heheh
Now I know when if i'm in an area that has shoddy service, straight to airplane mode for me.
Today [using battery indicator Pro] my phone got to 100.4 F
It was pretty hot, battery was drained quick but now my phone is a cool 80.4 F
mine got up to 111.2F today... I'm a bit worried about that. Granted I was in a low reception area... thats still pretty frickin hot IMO
mine gets pretty hot but only when expected, 3d stuff or lots of 4g or high intense gaming
Just about all phones get hot when they juice up the antenna in an attempt to improve signal. The solution is to go into airplane mode... unless you need signal.
I think I could fry eggs on mine, when I'm at work.....but my Hero was the same way and my son's using that phone now 16 months later, so I'm not too worried.
Mine stays in an OtterBox Defender and it's still cooler than Ice T locked in a freezer.
mine doesn't seem to get as hot as I could get my EVO4G.
mine gets hot sometimes after streaming or charging for long periods. but so did my OG Evo
111 sounds really hot. Probably close to a reboot. I don't think I've ever got mine over 104.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
I had mine plugged in, in the car with google nav going and it hit 120 and then stopped charging. the battery cuts out when it gets too hot and the charging light starts flashing still works well though
i guess this is whats going on with mine. we have been having a lot of tower problems in my area.. i think they are updating for 4g or something but last time i called 4 towers where down...
today my battery drained fast!!! i dont know how long it took but it was at 59% around 13:30 or so..... i also noticed it had rebooted since i checked the up time.
this never happened with my OG Evo and we have been having a lot of problems with towers here.

Great battery life until yesterday

I've been very happy with my 3vo battery getting all day usage with no problems up to 15 hours.
Then yesterday left the house with a full charge and a couple of hours later noticed my phone was warm but I was in and out of a friends house, very hot outside so didn't think anything about it. 5 hours later noticed my battery was very low and got the low battery warning at 6 hours.
I'm thinking something got stuck running, guess I'll find out today

There have been numerous reports of this. I did not take the OTA, for the record. What resolved this was a reboot but I can confirm that my phone wasn't sleeping yesterday until I rebooted it.
I had the same problem (i.e. it getting warmer than usual and then crappy battery life) I also noticed it dropped from full signal at my house to half. One hard reset later and it seems to be working like the awesome candy bar sized technical technical soul bot that it is (translation its great).
This could all be due to having a bad signal in the location you were. My battery life is great at home where I have 3-4 bars of service. When I go to work where Im lucky if I have 1 bar, my battery drains much quicker.

That would cause battery drain, but wouldn't explain the phone staying awake. The sleeping issue happened to me in the exact same location.
Take the OTA, it completely fixes the awake issue.
HTC sync gets "stuck" on and kills yoUr battery.

I took the OTA yesterday and now my phone isn't sleeping at all idk what's happening

Yeah this has happened to me twice so far. I don't think its low signal as much as a app doing it. I basically work faraday cage and it never gets hot.

[Q] Anyone else's phone running hot?

I've been noticing a good amount of heat up by the camera during moderate use. I thought this was a CM7 problem since I had been on it since day 1, but I am now on UnNamed and the problem persists. After some googling it does seem that many other people are having this problem. Not on WIFI, and not in a poor signal area either. Just wanted to see if anyone had any leads as to the cause. What is a good app for monitoring CPU usage by app?
Yes, it may get a little hot but it isn't something to worry about as far as I know. I've gamed for three hours straight and not had any problems except for a low battery life!
yeah mine gets hot near the camera during use but i dont think its a problem
I use a battery monitor.
From what I've read, it will shut off for protection. I've heard that as long as it doesn't ever get too much above 130 F, you should be OK.
Now if it constantly stays high, there may be a problem. Mine stays around 80 F most of the time and the highest I've ever seen is 99 F but i don't game much or use my camera. One thing you don't wanna do is charge it while hd gaming or charge it in a hot car. My infuse reached 146 F one time doing that.

Somehow 'Words with Friends' caused my phone to really warm up a lot. More so than I've seen with any other situation and on numerous occasions. Luckily I suck at that game and uninstalled it...
Mine is cool unless i put a thick case then itll burn up
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
When I first got CM7 running on this thing, I tore through the market installing the apps I'm used to. When I was finished, I noticed that it was indeed a bit warm in the area you described. It wasn't hot enough to cause discomfort, just warm enough to note.
I notice when my phone gets hot in that area when it is around 30% remaining and I charge it. I also notice that when it is charging, it really isn't charging but battery is draining. When I got home and charged it at 30%, I left it sitting there for about 30 minutes and when I checked the phone again, it was at 25%. GPS and wifi was turned off. I decided to power down the phone and remove the battery for 5 minutes. I started working fine after that. I noticed it getting hot again today when I plugged it in to charge at 40% but this time it actually was charging. I am running stock rom but rooted. Should this be a concern?
Seems as though a lot of people are having a variation of this problem. Hopefully it is addressed soon.
The CPU will always get a bit warm if it's running.
If it's getting very hot when the screen is off, you've probably got some background task wakelocking the phone.
My phone's screen gets pretty hot when I run web videos/flash videos on HSPA.
Runs a tiny bit warm when i'm running pristine 3D Tegra games on it...otherwise no.

Not just another "battery issues" thread

I have been meaning to post in here about how great my battery life has been, especially after seeing all of the threads complaining about it. I have been going home after a 9 hour day with 70-80% and even with extreme use, I have had no issues.
That being said, today my battery drained inexplicably fast for no reason. I checked my background apps and closed a few, but the battery drain persisted, so I rebooted.
Anyone else having this issue or know what causes it? This is the first incident I have had in almost a week. The last app I launched before this happened was Inrix traffic. Battery life has been beautiful, otherwise.

That's the fix I use. I now call my 920's battery life non-deterministic. It's great, except when it's not. When it's not, even if it looks like it should be because nothing is running, a reboot fixes it. Until the next time.
I would be shocked if there weren't an OS update to fix whatever process is going rouge and running away with the battery. Because it's something in the OS. Or at least its something the user cannot remedy, short of taking off and nuking the site from space.
I've noticed this a lot too. I killed a whole load of background apps and the battery life got a lot better. Then it got much worse again.
I believe my main problem is that I live in a low signal area. So I drain the whole thing in about 10-11 hours, even when out working the majority of the day.
One thing I have found is that the radios in the handset are very badly shielded compared to my previous handsets. This does mean that I can hear when the phone is sending out signals/utilising the radios. It does this a lot, even when it does have signal. It must consume a massive amount of power.
I get roughly 5-6 hours or so. Charger I bought on Amazon no longer does the trick (it's one that plugs into the cigerette lighter in your car and two USB outs). I have to bring with me the power cord and an inverter to keep it charged up so it makes it through the day.
I've got NFC and Bluetooth turned off, Wi-Fi on and the phone set to 3G mode. I get pretty solid battery life out of it.
When I feel the back of the phone getting warm, I reboot and it's good for awhile. I too would be surprised if there isn't an OS update to fix this issue.

I am heaving same issue with battery. Phone worked fine first 10 days and it started to be warm on the top back. Life of the battery can not last a day and i am a heavy user.
As somebody mentioned in comment to turn off this and that- i don't think so. I did not buy phone to keep everything off on it.
If in airplane mode. had couple pictures and few other things, this is what you get out of your battery.

Excellent. I'll just keep my phone in Airplane mode all the time! What was I thinking, leaving the cell radio on?
I've just had 2 great days life out of mine. Off charge at 6am and currently sat at 58% at 4pm. I've been streaming a podcast from the internet via bluetooth for 90 minutes and I've been tethering too, as well as all the usual stuff, so it's not like it's been sat idle all day. I've even been using Nokia Drive to get to work this morning (I teach at many different schools) whilst streaming media off the web and bluetoothing it to the stereo and it's not hit it bad. Seems very power conservative where internet streaming and GPS is concerned.
I have battery level for WP8 installed and it has a graph so you can see when the battery level is dropping off. I've noticed solid battery drain from running the Audible app which continues after the app is closed. Rebooting solves this. I have been working in an area with excellent signal recently though, that may have made a big difference. I get 9-10mbps on HSPA at the moment. I do, of course, have NFC turned off.
Hopefully Portico will be here soon and solve some of these power problems.
