LTE on ATT?
Has anyone experienced LTE connectivity on the ATT network? Using LTE Discovery, I have still yet to connect to LTE — only HSDPA+.
I tried doing some research on interoperability, but I'm still not even sure it SHOULD work on ATT LTE. Can anyone shed some light on this?
From ATT:
• 3G UMTS network 850/1900MHz bands
• 4G LTE network AWS / 700 / 850 / 1900MHz bands
From GSM arena on the T399:
GENERAL 2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100
4G Network LTE 700 MHz Class 13 / 1700 / 2100
Even though the T399 is capable on bands 850, 1900, and 700 (although I believe ATT uses the non interoperable class 17), are those frequencies not usable on LTE? Is that a limitation of the radio chip?

Unable to update, sim card not working since I tried
I just tried to update it a few times, after the reboot when it's applying the update, it fails at around 25%. Is there another way I can get Kitkat? I'm guessing it's not working because the update detects if the phone is rooted or something. Updating via Kies doesn't work, so I reverted to a backup I had in TWRP. Also, ever since I tried to update, Android has been deciding to not use my sim card (ie. no 'insert sim' notification, but when I go to settings -> more networks -> mobile networks it says 'Insert sim card to use mobile networks.') I kind of need my phone (for obvious reasons) - and if it's for calling I am willing to restore to stock (preferebly newer) firmware, even if unrooted...

Awesome custom ROM
Do ypu know any cool custom ROMS for the sgh-t399, just want to change the theme or even have cool features on it.

LightWave is really the only "custom" ROM so far. It's stock, but debloated and optimized. However, development has (at least temporarily) ended, as its creator is currently working on porting CyanogenMod to this phone, which'll be fantastic if it can get up and running.
In the meantime, best thing would be to use a custom launcher like Nova to change how your home screens and app drawer look, and to root (if you haven't already) and install the Xposed framework (if you haven't already), and check out the Wanam module (and others), which'll allow you to enable certain features and clean up your notification panel and status bar from excessive icons and notifications.

I agree, check out Xposed and Wanam, and also the Aviate launcher recently acquired by Yahoo. It's the most organized launcher I've tried out of many though the years. Xposed and Wanam are the next best thing to Cyanogenmod, for Touchwiz stock Roms, imho...

Also, if you install Home2Shortcut from Google Play and disable Samsung S-Voice, you can configure your home button double tap to open Google Now and "ok, google" with two home taps, or anything else you want for that matter.

Simple instructions, please, for installing LightWave, etc.!
I would like to install LightWave, TWRP, and any essential related software on my T399N. Any extras can wait. I'm not using this phone with my MetroPCS service yet, but I have used it just a bit with Wi-Fi, particularly to set up my new Chromecast box.,
I skimmed the posts in the developer thread on this and was confused about what to do first, and how to do it. (I presume I'll have to use adb for part of it, and I did manage to find out how to get the phone to work with adb.) A couple of years ago, when I was first coming to this site, I probably could have figured it out from that thread, but my brain seems to be deteriorating rapidly as it nears the completion of 3/4 of a century of existence. It could also be my insomnia, that may or may not be age-related, and, last but not least, the new, cluttered, presumably more advertiser-friendly, interface that has replaced the old user-friendly interface that I think I remember from this site.
Anyway, can anyone just list the steps to accomplish the basic installation I'm talking about?
Also, is there any reason to be concerned about the update that Samsung and T-Mobile/MetroPCS have just sent me today?

I tried to look for the update for the T-MOBILE version and there was nothing for that version sadly

I need to go to T-Mobile and see how much it would cost to get my screen fixed

Urgent Questions: Recovery After Root & Safe Apps to Uninstall
Hello everyone. I have some questions for anyone who can help.
1. Can I install a custom recovery AFTER obtaining root on my Samsung Galaxy Light SGH-T399 phone? I have root access via @shabbypenguin's pre-rooted stock rom and I'm on NE4.
2. Also, should I use CWM or TWRP? Which one will be more simple for me to use and understand? Which one will allow me to make better, complete nandroid backups and restorations?
3. Which apps can I safely uninstall?
Thanks.

metro t399n tethering issues
So this is my third android from metro. Others were a Huawei Premia 4g and a galaxy exhibit. I was able to tether on both without root using the stock android hotspot. My computer runs Linux so user agent string filtering wasn't an issue. Now that I have this light, it seems tethering has become very locked down. At first I couldn't even turn the hotspot on. I thought that might change if I rooted, so I used shabbypenguins guide and twrp to root. That alone didn't get the hotspot running. I ended up installing xposed frameworks and the xtether module... behold! The hotspot would turn on! However, my pc's browser would redirect me to the T-Mobile upsell page. Freaked out worrying they finally added Linux to the list of user agents to block. To verify, I tethered my exhibit to the light and tried to get online.... upsell sight again. I know they aren't blocking this with user agent strings, it's gotta be something in the apks. used titanium backup to remove tethering provisions and tethering automation but didn't work. I've now gone through a dozen tethering apps off the play store both utilizing root and not. None of them will get me off the upsell redirect page. It looks like cm12 is still not quite there for the light so I don't want to go custom Rom just yet. Does anyone know how to fix this in the stock Rom?

@mjbrady83
I use WiFi Tether Router by Fabio Grasso on my Galaxy Light without issue, but I also have T-Mobile with a 5gb tethering plan built-in, so I don't know if that makes any difference.
Here's a good guide:

Help with Galaxy Light
Hi I have a Galaxy Light SGH-T399 and I flash the stock rom for this phone (T399UVUAMJ4_T399TMBAMJ4_TMB) all good until a load for first time he ask de pin number but he is keeping searching network and dont connect never with the network. When I go to make a phone call he said "no registrado en la red" or not registered in network. I read a few post in some forums and dont find any solution. Please anyone can help. I try some methods like:
1- put in airplane mode and out some time
2- pull out the sim card and put in again
3- remove sim card and battery for 5 min
4- wipe data/factory reset
Please I need help I dont have any other phone, I live in Cuba and the resourses here is very limited.

I can't say for certain, but it appears to me that the phone is carrier locked. You might be able to get T-Mobile to unlock it, or get an unlock code off eBay or one of those websites that sells them, but I have no idea how you would go about doing this, you being in Cuba and all...

Custom Kernel?
I guess this is the most relevant place to post this...
I was wondering if anyone was willing to make a custom kernel for this phone. I have no experience with this sort of thing so I'm just asking...
Anyways I really love this little phone. It's so dirt cheap now a days (Like $50 on eBay) and I think it's an excellent phone.
I just think it's missing a couple of things that could be added in a custom kernel.
1. Wolfson Control
This device does in fact have a Wolfson WM1811 DAC (Like the International S3 and Note II).
You can bump up the volume in default_gain.conf but actual Wolfson Control would be much better as you could change the analog volume on the fly and enable some of the important DAC features to improve sound quality, especially the hardware Equalizer and some of the other settings. See screenshots

2. Button Light Notifications
One thing that really bothers me about this phone is a lack of a notification LED...
Back when I had an original Galaxy Note it also had this problem, and lots of kernels implemented a way for the Menu/Back button LEDs to act as your notification LED. It was wonderful and I think this device really could use it!
I guess besides that overclocking and maybe if enabling USB OTG would be pretty cool!
Anyways If anyone experienced in making a custom kernel is interested I would be more than happy to help in whatever way possible!
Thanks.

How to get VZNav working with new VZW update!!!

After browsing around Verizon's website today, I noticed something. I went in to change my plan (needed more minutes) and noticed there was an option to add VZNav to your plan on that same screen at the bottom. If you're one of the many that want VZnav on your phone even if it means paying the $10 a month for it, you're in luck.... FOLLOW THESE STEPS IF YOU'VE GOTTEN VZNAV INSTALLED AND IT ASKS FOR ACTIVATION BY CALLING *611 on previous attempts.
The following steps worked for me:
1. Log into VZW's website and go to change your plan. When you're at that screen, you'll notice you can add VZnav capabilities to your phone. Select it and make the changes. The following confirmation screen will give you a rundown of your current plan and features.
2. Download the update from UTstarcom's web page http://handsets.utstar.com/view_phone_details.aspx?mcode=XV6800&bID=89&sAct=0.
3. Flash your phone using the instructions within the zip you just downloaded.
4. Once your phone is successfully flashed and the customizations run, reprogram your phone by dialing *228... then reboot your phone.
5. Once your phone is rebooted, download the VZnav software from your phone's internet explorer home page under the VZ Navigator link and install it.
6. Provided the installation goes smoothly.. reboot once more.
7. Start the VZnav program and follow all of the instructions where you'll have to set up the defaults for the vznav software.
8. Moment of truth! Once you get to the VZnav home screen go to "maps & traffic" and tap on "where am i?" If the installation/activation was successful, your GPS location will be found within 5-10 seconds.
Congratulations, you just did what several of VZW techs could not do, which was add VZnav on to your plan and get it working. Every feature I've tried with the software works great. The 4 or 5 functions I tried had locks within 5 seconds. I haven't done too much experimenting because I did all of this... at work, on my work pc. (I love my job)
VZNAV WILL NOT WORK (without serious modding if even at all) IF YOU HAVE NOT USED THE OFFICIAL VZW UPDATE. WEIGH YOUR OPTIONS BEFORE YOU GO THROUGH WITH THIS BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE TOMTOM/OTHER PROGRAMS WITHOUT A FIGHT AFTER THIS FLASHING.

You won't be able to use them at all with the internal GPSOne chipset in the XV6800 after flashing......
Yes, you can. You just have to go through a hellish process in flashing backwards to get the original PRI... The two events are mutually exclusive. You have to choose VZW update w/ VZnav capabilities, or a kitchen w/ other programs.
Thats what my point was, it is either / or......
Not sure how people are having difficulties getting VZ Nav. After correcting my PRI issuue with a DMU reset. Everything was fine. I just installed VZ Nav and had VZ NAV Provisioned on my Account and it worked perfectly. It is much nicer on the 6800 with the screen and 4.1 versus my old Razor.
Any idea's as to why my GPS is performing this crap here:
I have Verizon wireless vz navigator 4.1.0. It loads up fine but it keeps saying "loading privacy policy..." with the loading icon spinning.
It takes about 30 seconds to a minute(of what seems like its trying to connect to the web for something), and then I get this message: "unable to get privacy setting."
And then it exits out to a big message box that says "There was a problem initializing the GPS. Please exit and restart VZ Navigator."
Now I have the HTC XV6800 from UTstarcom with the latest ROM update from them so that I have Rev A and Windows Mobile 6.1 etc... That I flashed. Basically the Rom file released on August 26 2008.
I tried to do *228 and press 1. Then I did a soft reset. I also did this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=421008
to try and activate the GPS. That works, but VZ navigator does not. (That was the whole DRM mode ##3424 and the whole QPST and driver/comm installation and the GPS viewer tool)
I have applied to and purchased the monthly VZ navigator service feature and package. Now, I dont have a data service and I blocked any data going though my phone because IE would start up on its own and rack up charges. So I dont have mobile web. But apparently on the website it is included as a feature for my phone when before it wasn't.
But I do have Wifi enabled and its connected to my wireless network at home and at work. It seems to be connecting to the server and internet. But it just cant seem to work with my phone either way, even though it seems that there is no support. Thankfully though atleast I dont get the LBS error or anything like that.
But any idea's or help or troubleshooting tips and suggestions you can offer to have me get this thing working?

This may have been addressed... but do you have location settings to Location on instead of 911 only? By default.. the new rom has it as 911 only.
Yep its on.
Works great!
I was looking for something better than google maps to use and I'm quite impressed with this app. I did some test routes this morning and it works awesome. I think its worth the 10 bucks a month for use.
Screen shots anyone?
Can anyone post screen shots of this app in use?
Is it really that much better than Garmin Mobile XT? I have that working beautifully with 2009 maps.
Here are some screen captures. Not sure if it is better then Garmin but it never let me down with my Razor or my Wife U-740. I don't have to keep memory cards and since I added this my bill dropped by $20 when switching to the Premium Plan that we had previous.
As for his not working it may be because of no data connection. It will launch your data connection which needs to do the privacy policy. I tried doing it with WIFI while they attempt to fix my lost connection and it didnt work. My guess is that is your issue no data connection for it to launch and then use.
The GPS detection issue is easy fixed by making sure location is ON and not just 911. I also tried setting up the program without a data session active, no luck, without a VZW data session in progress, the privacy policy will not load. If you enable location AND enable data at least for a few minutes, you'll be good to go. I'll post screenshots here in a few as soon as I get a program that'll do it.
Here are those screenshots of VZnav in action! I would have posted some live GPS locks but my office is damn close to being a bunker. There's no way any gps is going to get a lock where I work lol

I have it enabled. ButI use a wifi connection. Apparently the website wont let me disable the datablock without paying $45, I am not going to do that for just a few minutes.
My wifi connects fine to the web, it should be able to get what it needs there.

I think you are running into the same issue MMS has. MMS requires Verizon data... as apposed to your WIFI / Ethernet home internet. At least from my experience.
Is there a fix for that?

That sounds a little sketchy. You should be able to use the pay per MB feature just like anyone else with a VZW phone. I have a family member on my account, he doesn't have data, but can still access VZW web for $1.99/MB. I've heard VZnav uses satellites AND towers to help determine your location, this may be difficult if you aren't accessing their towers (instead of using VZW data you are using home WIFI). If anyone can revise/add to this theory, please do. Also if you look at my screenshots, a data plan is pretty much required to use 50% of the functions within the program. Weather, looking up places such as movie theaters and even software updates.

That sir, seems to be the question of this thread.
This is ridiculous. I enabled the web and now I get error code 11 ppp connection message.
Why cant they just do things simple?

[26.11.2008] WifiLocations v0.6 - Location based Wifi/BT/Ringer/user app's (de)activa

Hello All,\
I've made a little program called WifiLocations. It does a lot more then you might think, currently:
Current Version : V0.6
- Specify locations (based on GSM/UMTS Cell-ID) where WiFi will be activated automatically (and turned off when you leave)
- Specify locations where Bluetooth will be activated automatically (and turned off when you leave) or the otherway around (for headset/carkit usage).
- Specify locations where your ringer should be turned off or to vibrate (and back to previous state when you leave)
- Run a user-specified program when in specified location (and the choice of killing it when you leave).
- Name the Cell's so it's a little less confusing.
- Autostart on reboot-option
You don't need GPS for this!
CDMA cells are not supported, if you have info on how to read the ID's contact me.
If you think something doesn't work right, please let me know in this thread!
If you want to request a feature, please ask here!
I produced this because I use my incoming voip number a lot when I'm on wifi and I didn't want to activate wifi everytime I walk into a wifi-location (hence the name!). You can add your current location or walk around for 60seconds in your house to add all used GSM/UMTS-cellsites. (You have to add them both if your in a low 3g-signal area)
Well if you like it, let me know or even donate I've always wanted to go to st. Petersburg and trying to pay for a ticket by developing free software
Click on it to see the real status, this is just an image! Thanks!
Not for commercial use...
Free to distribute as long as it includes a link to my donation page along with the download link and a link to these forum pages.

Known Errors:
-WiFi in standby mode isn't functioning correctly I think
-Current Cell in mainform isn't updated until you restart
-Killing the app by pressing 'X' doesn't remove the trayicon
great tool thank you very much
Let me know if it works for you and what you what doesn't especially since I don't have a change myself to test is on other that gms/umts networks....
VERY NICE!!!
Just tried it, one thing, in the "walk around for 60 seconds" I did this, and it found another cell site, but it never added it.
Also, will it turn off the WIFI when out of range of the cell sites?
I will take a look at the 'non-adding-after-60-s' error tonight. And it should disable wifi when you're outside the reach of the gsm/umts-cell.
Actually it DID add it after I closed it down and re-started it, it now shows the other cell site.
thanks now I know what to fix when I get home! because the cell grabbing happens in another thread it can not directly change items on the gui thread! will fix this asap
Looks like a great utility.
Question : All it does is switch on the wifi? One still has to go through the login (for security enabled wifi) or other access means as defined at the particular hotspot ??
Btw, here is the site of a PC program that behaves more or less similarly. Perhaps useful for ideas ???
http://wifihopper.com/
Thanks
I think you're not getting the point of my application, it uses your Cell-position to activate your wifi. So you save battery and your voip protocol can be activated whenever you get to your home(or other)-cell... The wifi-profiles can be created through any wireless profile manager!

This should be solved now...
Nice app...I have a request that although probably not used by alot of folks it seems like a simple enhancement in "concept"....can you add the option to enable/disable BLUETOOTH instead of wifi based on location? I tether my phone to my house alot and use it as the internet feed...it would be nice if when I got to the home location it auto linked up with the pc and gave it internet without me having to think about it..the process seems the same. Am I off base?
Hmm upon further study it's not that simple...I'd also need to still run the internet sharing app...so perhaps not so simple.
@famewolf, I'll take a look at it. Never worked with bluetooth before, but I don't think it's much work.
I just created the application for personal use, because I tend to use voip a lot. I posted it here so so everybody could use it if they want to.
About the feature you request, you want bluetooth to be activated or does it need more functionality?
Well after thinking on it more it would take more than just activating bluetooth...would also need to be able to run a program when bluetooth was enabled so I'll just be thankful for what you provided. Your program will come in very handy when visiting my relatives...the cell reception in their house is crappy and I always end up enabling wifi and logging onto their router when in house to get email etc....will use your program to auto enable it.
Of use to people who "dabble" in voip....you can use fring and grandcentral to get a "free incoming" phone # that uses voip...and the new idialer allows grandcentral out calls as well....this would potentially works well with these apps...hmmm perhaps you SHOULD consider allowing the user to execute an app when wifi comes up or down so they can run whatever sip client they are using?
@famewolf, I think what you mention can be very interesting. I know that starting another app isn't a big problem. Working on the hiding of the form and autostarting now. Will add the functionality to start an app lateron.
Download new version, now includes working start-at-boot-mode and auto hiding the form. I want to change the complete set-up because it wasn't designed properly.... some other time.
I downloaded the current version; on my Sprint Touch Pro, it doesn't seem to see cell ids although it does seem able to turn on/off the wifi successfully.
good program. looks like the makings to the 'locale' program for android. If you added some volume profiles that would automatically switch you would be set. It would be nice to have my phone mute itself when i got to work and turn the volume back on when i left for home.
This program ist simply brilliant. If have been looking for something like this for a long time and programs like this one are the reason, I never got an Iphone.
One question though: your program seems to keep the Wifi connection alive all the time. Is it possible to add an option to have it running in powersave mode (i. e. power down in suspend mode)?
EDIT: Sorry to bother you. The behavior of the wifi energy save features has nothing to with your neat program. For some reason my wifi was hanging. It seems, I still have to get accustomed to my Touch HD (or the firmware bugs).
@twcook, I think that's because you're not on a gsm/umts network, I really don't have a clue how to solve that yet. I'll put it on the todolist. If anyone has information on how to get other that gsm/umts-cells let me know.
@nmeister, good one, put that on the todolist as well. But I won't be working on it a lot this weekend, got other plans.
tnx man, the program is perfectly working on tytn ii, its amazing. never need to touch comm manager for wifi...

Gps BUG: what it is + demo video ! ! !

The Gps bug affects all stock Xperia 2011 phones.
The bug is simple, i explain it better then possible:
i turn on the Gps, wait for a fix, and start to navigate, after 5 minutes the signal drops for about 30 seconds, then works for other 5 minutes and again drops, other 5 minutes and drops, and again again again
every 5 minutes the gps drops without exceptions
now the datas collected in months of this problem:
1) this happens with traffic data OFF, background data OFF, absolutely no contact to the network at all, and offline app like Sygic, Navigon, Copilot etc
2) this not happen with Maps, also in offline mode, with a little portion of map downloaded before, and no data traffic
3) this not happen with Data enabled or Wifi enabled
4) this also not happen in Flight mode, and perhaps it is the most important information, so is not an hardware problem.
5) with the build 3.0.1.A.145 this didn't happen with data disabled !
Here a log of the bug by a user with the same problem.

What do we think about? :
for an unknown reason Sony firmware attempts to collect data every 5 minutes, also if the phone have data disabled. If don't find data, there is a drop out !!
Basically A-gps works always, even if data are disabled (i have no data traffic, my sim is disabled for internet connection), and this must not happen, because it causes a drop, its attempt is not silent for who have data OFF.
P.s OFF topic replies will not be tolerated more.
This thread is for share real problem, confirmed by Sony itself.

I hope you tried at Arc forum. Maybe you will have better luck.
Just one question though, have you tried ICS beta? Maybe they solved problem there, so it will be available when ICS comes.
A SW developer on talk.sonymobile says:
"I can now confirm that my fix will be included in the ICS update.
Since the problem occurs because the phone tries to connect to a server to download satellite orbit information there are there are three things you can do until you've got the ICS update:
- Download assistance data while connected to a Wi-Fi network. You can do that by installing the "XtraData Downloader" from Android Market. While on a Wi-Fi network press the "Download XTRA data immediately" button. Do this right before leaving the network since the data is only usable for a limited amount of time.
- Make sure that the signal conditions are good while using the GPS receiver. It will only try to connect to the server until it has successfully decoded the information from the satellites. If using the GPS indoors or while driving in a city the satellite signals will be too weak, but if using the GPS in conditions where the signals are not obstructed by buildings the connection attempts should stop after about 20 minutes when the information has been decoded.
- Activate the data connection (I understand that this is probably not a reasonable solution for you)."
We just have to wait ICS

You don't need to. You can just ask someone who is still using stock ICS beta, for example in official xda thread for ICS beta: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1513172
Although I don't know if that bug is only on Neo or on Arc also, but I guess you know that
New demo video add in first post.
very embarassed bug, not expected from Sony
and also 6 months of wait
Inconceivable !!!
Not a problem I have... but then again, I use data. Because I can.
Have you searched this out? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1250226
As for "Sony" being somehow bad, I suggest you try the Taiwanese or Korean brands and then comment. The "bug" is largely a Google/Android issue. Apparently.
Why don't you simply sell the phone and buy something that actually suits your needs? I'm not being anyway sarcastic, but that's what I would do... particularly as you have had this problem for ages and received no insight from any of the umpteen posts you have made.
The bug is "by Sony" in this case, because was introduced with the new firmwares.
When i bought the phone the Gps worked perfectly, or i would have return the phone to my local shop.
Now change it with Samsung or Htc, have no sense, i will lose 50% of the real price, for a problem introduced by Sony itself !
When you say "the bug is an adroid issue", you mean this Gps bug, or the generic world of bugs?
I never saw a Gps bug like this in any android phone.
I searched that discussion, and i wait for a reply by Crypted, the author.

I don't understand the first part of your reply, sorry, but my english is not too colloquial.
About the second part, my firmware is absolutely stock and not rooted, without change in the system.
4.0.2.A.0.62. The bug was introduced since the first 4.0 firmware, with the old 3.0 one was perfect. But i don't want to downgrade, old firmwares weren't so good and there is a lack of important features.
Actually i use Sygic gps navigation.
I repeat it: is not an app problem, but a system one, a real bug.
My firmware is appropriate for my region, it is that correct.

[Q] Hidden codes not working, bc of 3rd party dialers or FW?

Hello.
I finally upgraded to ICS and Resurrection Remix ROM.
I have some issues in my area with 3g not "working", i.e. data will transfer with Edge (slowly) and with H(+) (quickly, but totally freeze up while the status bar shows "3G" connection, and only start again when it changes to E or H(+). It switches a lot between 3g and H, so my workaround was to use the hidden code *#301279# and disable both HSDPA and HSUPA. Which wasn't a problem as for some reason speed tests would give me 6,6mbps download with just 3G (makes no sense to me as I thought pure UMTS peaked at 384kbps?).
So anyway, when I flashed Resurrection I was pleased to see that it offers that very choice in its menus, choosing UMTS, HSDPA or both and HSUPA. Unfortunately it just won't "take" for me, with only UMTS chosen I still have H+, and hence 3G doesn't work. To make matters worse I can't get any hidden codes to work/activate in the dialer either (except for some reason *#*#4636#*#*).
So, my question is, is this due to 3rd party dialer instead of stock (and is stock dialer something I could get with RR ROM if so)?
Or is it this solution from galaxy S thread:

I've always had custom ROMs and no problem though Lite'ning, Criskelo and CheckROM probs were based from Samsung stock ROMs.
So, anyways, any way around this, so I can deactivate HSDPA/HSUPA?

sorry ma8 REMIX is based on AOKP hence ALL samsung codes do not wrk on it with exception of a few
it has nothing 2 do with the dialer but the next ver of remix might address the issue
Oh bloody ..., now I have to find another ICS ROM again then... I need that workaround.
*sigh* any recommendations? I liked CheckROM pre ICS, but they're a bit slow with theirs.

give a try with SLIMrom ICS or Wanamalite pure ICS rom and see

Did you try if also the *#0011# works? I any case, what you need to know, is that (generally speaking) the following is true:
1) (RF related) "secret codes" are Application short cuts to the Radio firmware.
2) Thus the actual code running is in the radio (baseband processor), but there is usually a Java (Application) wrapper doing some of the menu graphics and what not, which then runs this code.
3) So, what codes are working, depends on the radio firmware and whether or not the wrapper applications have been installed with your ROM.
4) Try to copy your old "ServiceMenu" (or whatever it was called on your device) Application onto your new system.
5) Many ROMs are using minimized Kernels that disables a whole range of debugging and other (internal) service configurations, that may be needed to use the "secret codes".
Thanks for your response, even though some of it was lost on me.
Your code doesn't work either. Only one I've had work is *#*#4636#*#*.
What I find really strange is that my ROM (Resurrection Remix 1.8.1) has a gui choice for RF band as well. But even though I select UMTS only (see screenshot), I still get H coverage and my 3g acts up. Even with reboot. So if anyone has specific knowledge of this ROM, please share. I still lack posts to post in the ROM's thread in dev.

Cheers for the response though.
Toggling UMTS only has never worked for me in any AOKP rom. Turning it using *# 301279# works well. Its nice to see websites load a trickle faster because it's not waiting for the phone to switch from 3g to H/H+. Try WanamLite rom.

Alright, fella!
1. Code as mentioned doesn't work.
2. Do you have the problem where data wont transfer/load when on 3g as well? Only on Edge or H/H+? Is this an Android thing or a SGS2 thing!? I'm guessing you're not on the Telenor carrier.
3. Is WanamLite non-AOKP based then, so it'll work? Didn't fall in love with WanamLite's look, so want to be sure.

Nah I'm with 3 UK but my speeds don't get any better to be honest on h/h+. The biggest difference I've seen was me getting 400KB/s on 3g and 460KB/s on h/h+, minus the 4-5 second delay when going from 3g to h and it doesn't really matter lol.
If data didn't load on 3g I'm sure there would be millions of unhappy customers lol, it definitely should work on either. 3 UK doesn't even have a 2g network so its 3g/h or nothing.
WanamLite is a Samsung based rom so all the dialer codes work and battery life in general is better than a AOKP based rom. I think it looks ok. I'm more fussed about using good looking apps and having nice homescreens rather than themed settings menus and notification themed toggles lol
Alright, might give it a go then. ust a shame with Resurrection which is quite nice. But battery friendly is top of the priority list.
I disabled (pre upgrade to ICS) with the *#301279# code, and still got 6,6 mpbs speed on data. Which is actually about 150kbps more than I got with H/H+. ;p
Oh, and thanks to everyone!
^^ I can't give a step-by-step since I'm not running neither your ROM, nor ICS...
While in the 4636 menu, hit the button and start advanced task manager, or just hit the button again. You will then see the name of the (wrapper) application that you was accessing using that code. When you find the correct app that was running, go to ADB root shell and search for the app with something like (using that name, of course):
Code:
find / -iname "*ServiceMenu*"
Next use your, Titanium Backup, or whatever to find and copy that app to your new system... (Oh, yeah, obviously you would need to reflash your old ROM or find someone who has the old one...) Then cross your fingers and hope it works!
Thanks fella, but I ended up flashing WanamLite and just doing the code.
Now I just need to either find an sms app for ICS, or where I can select phone numbers only to show so I don't keep sending mms to email in stead of phones.
I was wondering the same thing. When my phone is on 3G, websites never load for me, they just sit there, half loaded. But as soon as it switches over to H, not H+ (never got it), they load automatically. I'm on Tesco Mobile but they use the O2 network. Is it a phone issue or a carrier issue?
Chris.
Well I'm on a Norwegian carrier, and in forums here I see loads having same issue. But a few with HTC phones as well, so perhaps an Android issue?
Anyway, what works for me is disabling H/H+ with the code *#301279#. As I get good speeds on data anyway as 3g then works like a charm. Or I did on my previous ROM Resurrection, on WanamLite I'm not so sure. Very slow ping.

I've noticed that my speeds suffer when I set 3g only. Feels more like 3 are doing it though. For example, I can get 600KB/s using 3g and roughly the same on H/H+. After a few hours though my 3g connection sits at around 45-70KB/s. As soon as I switch to H/H+ it bumps back to 600KB/s+ again. What's odd is that if I then go BACK to 3g only it maintains fast data for a few hours.........then back to under 80KB/s. Really weird
I just tested and I gave the wrong info.
If I disable both HSDPA and HSUPA in the *#301279# code I get 3g with about 360 KBPS download according to a "speedometer", but if I activate HSDPA, but _NOT_ HSUPA, I still get 3g showing in my status bar, but the speed test gave me 7,33 MBPS download! So might want to test that. It still gives me stable data!

*Solved* Automate turning on WiFi Tether when connecting to Bluetooth?

Hello,
With my previous Galaxy s7 I used Tasker to turn on my hotspot when it detected my cars Bluetooth. But it doesn't seem to work on my S9+ (US Sprint). I've tried Macrodroid as well as Tasker with the 'Nougat+ Tasker Tethering Control'.
It seems the issue may be Oreo related? Anybody know a way?
My car stereo is a Joying Android unit and it's nice not having to constantly turn hotspot on manually to use Pandora etc.
I have the exact same problem. Seems like the device has to be rooted.
That may be a possibility, but I'm holding out hope that it's just a Tasker update.

I have not yet found a solution. In all honesty, I gave up. If there's no answer here, there likely isn't one to be found
If you have access to Samsung's Good Lock 2018 app (via the Galaxy Apps store), install it. There's an app called "Routines" that gets installed with it. It is like a *very * basic Tasker, but it has the necessary permissions to turn on the tethering on my AT&T S9+. I fought with Tasker/AutoInput on my S7E and the S9+ until the new Good Lock came out.

If only there was a routine to turn off wifi tether when the bluetooth connection dropped.... It's so close to perfect.
I guess this is all a moot point now that Routines is no longer supported in Pie.
Its June 14th, 2019.
AT&T Note 9 locked, not rooted, all the latest updates.
I have tried just about every possible way of doing this. There are a few ways that work, but only one works reliably.
1. Install Samsung Good Lock - It works for me, today, as of posting, on pie just fine.
2. install Tasker
3. in Good lock - create a bluetooth connected to XXXX routine to enable hotspot
4. in Good lock - create a routine to disable hotspot on wifi enable
5. in tasker - create routine to enable wifi on inverted bluetooth connected to XXXX
I never want true wifi enabled while I am in my vehicle with my andoid head unit.
I always want wifi on when not in my vehicle.
Samsung good lock has the perms to enable/disable hotspot just fine.
Only use of tasker in this is to turn wifi on when disconnected from vehicle bluetooth, which triggers the samsung routine to turn off the hotspot.
Works flawlessly, which I cannot say for Tasker+AutoInput or any other method.
Good Lock + Routines' [WiFi | Tether] automation rocks

I realize it's been a year, but I'm SO glad I finally found this solution. As of now, Good Lock (V 1 .0.00.64) with Routines, current and running on Android 10, seems to undo actions automatically after the routine's trigger condition ends. IOW, when I turn off my car and the ATOTO bluetooth connection ends, the Mobile Hotspot is shut down pretty quickly and automatically (otherwise Samsung's Mobile Hotspot can be set to turn off after 10 minutes of inactivity).
I also setup a simple routine to turn on WiFi when I'm within 20 meters of my house (the only place I use WiFi for Internet access and controlling local WiFi-connected devices). As with the simple Bluetooth-connection-triggering-Hotspot Routine, I notice that WiFi is automatically turned back off when I leave home.
My US model S9 (G960U1) is the first phone I've had in the last decade where I couldn't unlock the bootloader and gain root... Good Lock and Routines almost mitigates that big annoyance (and I have grudgingly found better uses for my time then constantly flashing new Android builds . Big thanks to @brycestejskal for pointing Samsung's Good Lock + Routines.

FYI, with the current version of Good Lock + Routines on Android 10, the use of Tasker is unnecessary in this scenario. Routines now appears to turn off Hotspot automatically after the Bluetooth connection goes away.
As for turning WiFi back on, I only want WiFi to be on routinely [sic] while at home, so I created a simple Routine to do that (one condition: Near home address; one action: Turn on WiFi).
I had previously installed Tasker for these specific tasks, but it failed without having root. I've now uninstalled Tasker.
Thanks again for your posting, @brycestejskal ! I needed this pointer.
truth. It's been working great for me actually. Getting the Android Head Unit to cooperate is another issue. The only problem I have experienced with Good Lock + Routines is when Android OS gets upgraded, Good Lock + Routines is broken for about a month or so.
And thank you for your message above, as your idea to only turn on Wifi at particular locations might be able to help me in my quest to disable my phone from continually connecting to Xfinity hotspots (I am Xfinity mobile subscriber) wherever I go.
Thank you to everyone on this forum actually.
Thanks @bmeek and @user9082390!
Since I wrote this, I stopped using tasker. The wifi hotpot can be set to disable after 5 minutes, and locations>enableWifi bridges the gap as you mentioned.
Only issue I ever have, is in low service areas, sometimes the hotspot fails to "provision". I then usually can get it to work by manually turning wifi off, then enabling hotspot. A minor downside for something that works flawlessly 99% of the time. GoodLock + Routines with my 10.1" android headset still rocks. Really glad I went with the headunit. I was concerned it would be slow junk. It works great.

Do mean that the mobile hotspot intermittently fails to start; starts but won't give your head unit a connection/IP address; or it let's the head unit connect but then fails do it's job as a NAT router and provide Internet access?
I experienced the latter flaw a few times when I had configured my hotspot to "5GHz preferred" after someone on an xda ATOTO A6 Pro thread reported seriously better performance at 5GHz. I'm back at 2.4GHz and it's working reliably.
So I doubt you have a 10.1" "android headset"... Are you referring to the Atoto A6Y1021PR head unit? If so, I'm envious of your old school volume knob .
I had feared that a swiveling 10 inch display would be a thief magnet in my old Lexus (that also lacks steering wheel controls), so l got the more conventional A6Y2721PRB (IPS display with a row of physical buttons beneath the screen). I wish it had a faster CPU as the UI lags occasionally, and I would prefer a volume knob instead of the buttons, but it's a great head unit overall!

The hotspot fails to start on occasion. It will state that it was unable to provision, and to contact service provider. Toggling hotspot manually thereafter results in same error. If I then turn of the Wifi, and then enable hotspot, it will work fine. Usually doesn't happen.
Lol, yeah not headset, but headunit. Silly typo.
It is an AndroidAutoShop variation of the XTRONS brand. I actually received mine after a Paypal dispute, but I would not recommend ordering from them. I just REALLY wanted that DSP and took the risk. It arrived 2 months late.
Mine has the DSP and IPS, and is 10.1" screen with the PX5 chip, 4GB ram. Even on that, the UI lags occasionally, but I only ever care when I am at a stop. It is fast enough that I do not notice the lags while driving. Using a 7" Pioneer with Android Auto was just as laggy in my experience actually.
The Atoto offerings are neat, but I didn't care about some of the "pros" it offered, vs the "pros" for the Xtrons/AAS unit. Just depends on how you plan to use it. I have zero need for BT5.0 APTX receiving, because I use the headunit as the source running the app. Didn't want the screen jutting up higher due to the knob design. My headunit mounts at the top of the dash, so anything higher is further into field of view. Wanted DSP, didnt care about built-in amp because using RCA to big amps, etc etc.
Really happy with my unit. In a different vehicle, I prolly would go with the atoto.
