First of all thank you Oasis for creating a tool to fix things that shouldn't be broken to begin with! You are an example for a lot of developers :good:
I've read the first couple of posts on the original thread but I still have a few things that are not clear..
The advice of Oasis himself is too hibernate only those apps that misbehave. He states that hibernating apps will also remove them from the memory, which will come with a performance/cpu usage penalty when you want to use them again.
In the video tutorial however Josh greenifies almost every application that doesn't need push notifications.
So this would mean that when I use an application that doesn't have notifications but I open frequently, for example Nu.nl, a dutch newsapp, it will always have to reload the app from scratch instead of loading it from memory?
So baically the best way to use Greenify would be to NOT just greenify most apps, but to use the analyzer frequently and see what's running in the background and greenify those that don't depend on notifications?
Then newsapps that don't push news, image viewers, file managers, system tools like SD Maid and simple games that don't use internet should be ok not being greenified?
Is there no big list available of apps that misbehave or are safe to keep de-greenified?

Basically you got it right. Use the built-in analyzer as well as disable service and autostarts to check apps' behaviour. For my experience, sometimes is better to disable a background service than greenify an app, if the app "misbehave" for this service only (of course you'll have to check if the app still works). An example: guaranteedhttpservice and tracksyncservice in shazam...

Where can I find and disable things like tracksyncservice? I also use Shazam but I can't find both services you mentioned in Greenify nor TiB?

Ah, I believed those were two functions withing Greenify I couldn't find
wtf, FB has 62! services! None of them where active though, until you open the app, then it was 3.
So you can choose between greenifying an app which will basically kill all services from an app, even background services on one hand, and choosing specifically which services too disable, like you did with Shazam.
The only issue with this second method being that you don't always really know what these services do.

Exactly. Take google play services for example. If you greenify it, you'll lose gcm and other functions and that's not advisable at all (in fact greenify hides it). But with disable service (and autostarts/system tuner)you can choose what to disable while still mantaining gcm, location services (when needed), sync etc. I can' remember what I did in system tuner regarding gplay services (I followed some tutorial), but with disable service I disabled analyticsservice (this one will reactivate itself unless you do some tweak with system tuner), refreshenabledstateservice, playlogreportingservice, googlehttpservice, playlogbrokerservice, adrequestbrokerservice, gcmschedulerwakeupservice, advertisingidservice, adsmeasurementservice, locationwearablelistenerservice, nlplocationreceiverservice, geocodeservice, dispatchingservice and playlogservice. A reboot is needed. Haven't lost a single function since weeks (gcm, location, autosync and every google app in general are working 100% fine).
Same story with play store. Apps wake it very often, so greenify it does more harm than good. Instead, you can disable pendingnotificationsservice, contentsyncservice and dailyhygiene (and will still be fully functional).
Of course these are little tips to increase performance and battery life even more. I use greenify for 90% and more of apps that "misbehave" and disable service/autostarts/system tuner for the remaining 10% "misbehaving" apps. However, an app "fixed" with such methods will stay cached while with greenify is completely closed (resulting in more cpu/time/battery consumption when loaded again).
The only issue with this second method being that you don't always really know what these services do.

Like I already said, for general purposes you'd better simply greenify the "misbehaving" apps. If you use it/it is woken very often, you can consider these methods.
Yes, it's a "trial and error" thing. Unless you're disabling services with self-explainatory names such as "pushservice".
Never installed Facebook official app but I heard many times that is a notorious hogger and takes many personal datas too, for which you can look for xprivacy xposed module as well.
I'll start experimenting with it today :good:
How to remove whats app from greenify? the new update doesn't show any option or may be I am missing something obvious. I don't want whatsapp to be hibernated
Did you try to highlight Whatsapp in the hibernated list and click the menu button? You will see the option to degreenify the selected app. Click that and it is degreenified.

In teh latest version when I highlight it then shows 2 options one is X another is zzZ I clicked on X so whats app is no more in hibernated list but I am still not getting messages unless I open whatsapp
which means it still is hibernated.
I got the message saying
"Despite degreenified apps still stay in hibernation until you wake it up by explicitly launching it" so I have opened it its not in the app list but still remains hibernated.
Am I missing something? cant I get whatsapp back out working normally?
Those options are for hibernating (zzZ) and cutting off the wake up path (not X but a scissor). What you should have done is to click the menu button (three vertical dots). Then you would have got the option for degreenifying. What you seem to have done is to cut off the wake up path.
You can try to clear the cache and data of Greenify and see whether Whatsapp works. But it will involve selecting all the apps again to greenify. Otherwise I think that you may have to uninstall and reinstall Whatsapp.
I am not an expert on this so wait for some more comments before attempting to do anything.
Actually new version changed a bit so I could not find those option, anyway Just restarted the phone & seems what app is running now, I can see it in running apps will wait to get a message, hopefully its working now.

IF you are facing similar problem in the future, you could actually backup your WhatsApp conversations (TiB or other backup tools you admire) and uninstall WhatsApp. After uninstalling, reboot, and then reinstall WhatsApp. Launch WhatsApp first and then attempt backup restore for your WhatsApp app.
This is a known problem and proved to some people faced it. Unfortunately however, Greenify has no way to fix this, as this is much more in behalf of WhatsApp's fault. You can search in the old thread if you are interested.
Remove Apps from Auto-Hibernation
1. Open Greenify App
2. Look for the app you want to keep open under the "Pending Manual Hibernation" list.
3. Press AND HOLD the app for a few seconds.
4. When new menu appears across the top, press the "X" button to remove it from the auto-hibernate list.
This is for Greenify App v2.8.1 on Android (Galaxy Note 5 on AT&T Network).
Trying to de-greenify stopwatch/timer app
I have a stopwatch and timer app which does not sound its alert when Greenify is active. If I force stop Greenify I get the alerts. The app does not show on Greenify's list of hibernated apps , even when a timer is in progress, so I can't work out how to de-greenify it.
Any ideas?

- if on MM/Nougat remove app from optimize list using ROM interface
- avoid using aggressive/shallow doze (experimental features)
For some reason my WhatsApp can't automatic hibernate. It's always in the 'Not hibernating automatically'. Whenever I manually make it hibernate, I don't receive any notifications or messages unless I open the app. I have the donation version, GCM is checked, keep notifications is checked, I have greenify enabled in both Accessibility and DeviceAdmin.
I do receive further notification and messages after I opened WhatsApp manually. Anyone else has experienced this and/or has a solution to fix this?

Quite weird as I don't face this! I would suggest for you to uninstall whatsapp, and then install it again. Backup its data beforehand with Titanium Backup if you intend to save the messages.

Didn't work. I still only get the messages when I open WhatsApp. Automatic hibernation is working now tho, for WhatsApp.

There's no actual fix for this, but I would try to reinstall Greenify, reset its device administrator and then clear the dalvik cache. It is quite of an isolated problem.. I sometime do have to admit Clash of Clans, Facebook and some 2 other I don't remember, stay without automatic hibernation but I can now cope with it. Thanks to swipe gestures of Nova Launcher lol.
And since it is a problem only related to certain apps, I don't think greenify should be blamed for this.

Funny thing is...if you un-greenify them and then choose to greenify them again and then hibernated them. The next time those apps will auto hibernated.
But upon reboot, the whole process starts all over again...weird.

I did a Factory Reset yesterday, because I had some issues. Thought it would work after the reset, but it didn't. How do you use the gestures to hibernate, coz I have also Nova Launcher?

You'll need to purchase Nova Prime in order for the feature to work. Assuming you have Nova and its premium features, go to Nova settings, and then tap on "Gestures and Buttons". Afterwards, choose your desired gesture, and then when choosing the action for a gesture, tap on "Shortcuts" tab, and choose Greenify's "Hibernate now" shortcut.
I personally choose the swipe up gesture. So when I am at the home screen, and I do also want my apps to be greenified forcibly, I will just have to swipe the screen up, and then the magic happens

In my case, this only happens to some apps. Others are perfectly hibernated. I agree it does feel weird, but I don't really concern about it.

You're right, I just tested this and it actually work. Only tested this with WhatsApp tho. Thanks! But the problem I'm still having is, whenever WhatsApp is hibernated, I'm not getting any notifications and messages, even tho I have GCM enabled. I read that other people do receive them, so I find this really weird why it's not working.

I'm using Hibernate + Lock for double tap atm, and it's hibernating WhatsApp with the method above. I tested it with Google Play Services as well, but that didn't work. So my only problem now is not receiving anything while hibernated. Still can't figure this out. -_-'

You should not mess with Play Services! You should know that GCM apps use play services to deliver push notifications!
About whatsapp, most people sorted the problem out by enabling Device Admin. In the OP, you've mentioned that you did that. I suggest degreenify play services, and re-activate device admin.

Funny thing is, after I ungreenify WhatsApp and then greenify it, it will be hibernated and then I do receive the messages. Whenever I open WhatsAspp, it's going back to the 'Not automatically hibernating' list. Really werid. It says 'Service in use by Android-system Push'. The only way of hibernating it, would be forcibly, but then again, I wont receive anything and it will go back to the same list.
I removed Google Play Services from the list and did re-activated greenify in device admin, didnt work.
I had try greenifying Whatsapp before, sometimes it works real good, sometimes I encounter the same issue as you. As such, I did not greenify it again.
I don't greenify Play Services.

Maybe I'll give it up as well. But on the other hand, I really want it to work, because the main reason I bought it was for WhatsApp.
Install greenify then clean master.. It works. And saves battery

Ok, I think I found the solution. I had this app, called Wakelock Terminator. Within the app, I checked 'Prevent Wakelock' for Google Play Services. I unchecked it and deleted everything in the 'Filter' field and after that I deleted the app as well, because the reason I had this app was for Google Play Services.
Now WhatsApp is working while hibernated. I'm getting the notifications and messages. Maybe this would be your problem as well?

Nah WhatsApp is not the problem. It is okay for me. The only problem I have is the other apps that people don't report it here. But I don't really mind about it. And I don't kill any wakelock or some sort, so the problem lies on those rogue apps instead. Anyway glad you finally worked it out. Told ya it doesn't have to do with Greenify

Yup, same here, did not hibernated Whatsapp too..no battery issues, I'm still getting 0.2% per hour during deep sleep regardless of whether Whatsapp is hibernated or not.
Did tried to hibernate it before tho and get occasionally delayed message..Lol

Well I actually hibernate whatsapp but still have push messages come in. I have to agree it does comes a bit late but sometimes it appears instantly when I connect to a wifi. I may consider ungreenifying it though, but not now.
I want to use greenify to "freeze" a certain apps when are not in foreground, do don't check in the background for location, connect to internet to update, and so on and so forth. Like if weren't installed from the beginning. I couldn't find anything in the user interface, the app looks more oriented to hibernate the entire phone (which I don't want).

Ok look like there was a misunderstanding. Didn't mean "freeze" in the way Titanium Backup does, but rather prevent the app from doing anything unless in foreground. Greenify is capable of that, you just add the desired apps to the list.
Hibernation Manager is similar and has high ratings. Also explains things better.

My understanding is, when you add apps to the autohibernate list and when you continue to work with one app in the foreground, any other hibernated app will continue to run (if started while you are working or if already running) till the screen is locked. Only after that the running apps will hibernate. This is the behaviour I am seeing.
Correct me if I am wrong.
Edit: Even Hibernation Manager works only when screen is off. Please read its description in Play Store.

Yes Hibernation Manager and Greenify only work when screen is off. That's enough for me, but do you know if any app that does it also when the screen is on? (App always hibernating unless on foreground)

So, I got greenify. I always thought it was a free app, but for the first time this week I really started using it and when I tried to hibernate some pre-loaded (system) apps, it didn't let me without the donation package. I thought "ok, maybe it's better. Paid apps generally know what they are doing".
But to my surprise, apps like YouTube, even Samsung's "Clock" and others, keep coming back, and even non-pre-loaded apps (such as facebook) do not stay in hibernation (at least, I always see them under the "Will hibernate in a few minutes when screen"... by the way, "when screen" what ?). So I always have to manually hibernate apps I open and use, and some keep waking up on their own anyway (when greenify promises they won't, that one has to manually execute apps for them to wake up, then that they will auto-hibernate once closed). I might be actually disappointed in paying for this. It's not working, and I turned greenify "on" in "accessibility" too.
Also, I don't want to risk flashing Xposed to still be able to get notifications when I already use TWRP and SuperSU (and my ROM is official, yet customized by myself, since I uninstalled all bloatware, then just backed up the new ROM with TWRP and reinstalled it), plus, Xposed says it is compatible with "6.0", so Idk if that includes Android 6.0.1 or not. But I wish Greenify's devs had been smart enough not to kill every push notifications.
Any greenify experts out there whom know how to finally make auto-hibernation work by itself, and make apps like Facebook quit being stubborn ?
Any light with getting notifications still too ?
