It is already enabled. The first time I unlocked the bootloader I faced the same issue. Even the phone stopped detecting SD card. Then I rooted it and installed busybox and it worked. phone as well as pc detected the sd card.

I don't think so that there is a method. Many latest phones have this problem. Please notify if you find one.

Is it correct that this mode is missing in S III?

I think it was re-added to CM9 for the S2 so you just have to wait for CM9 to come out for the S3.
Why shouldn't it have it, it has an SD card slot.

All I know with my S2 (ICS) is that it has MTP and when I plug it in it detects both internal and external sd with no issues.
My Note on the official ICS build actually has a mas storage mode, so this may be supported in the S3.
I just read it in one of the reviews...
BTJ
No mention on User manual..
User manual has several errors though, so may not be gospel. That said I follow a current user of the S3 on Twitter and he says the option for mass memory is not present on his, but it isn't a retail release version.

Old fashioned UBS Mass Storage mode is still available on ICS.

It might take a little while to load for the first time - mine did.
Cheers.

go to wireless and networks and there is usb storage mode my friend that was at the event said it was he was doing a detailed review for cnet
There is no USB menu item in settings!
Transfering Data via SwiFTP now...
USB Mass Storage apk is not working without root
i fear the end of mass storage mode especially for internal sd. if the whole internal sd is formatted as ext4 partition, there is no way for it to get detected in windows
Dropbox?

You have MTP, PTP Mode in Notificationbar when plugged to USB.
You have "\\Phone\" with Internal+ExternalSD available, but not as a Driveletter.
Problem: Losing Timestamp when transfering files... i tried as ZIP but when extracting with AndroZip or TotalCommander, the Timestamp is not set to original.
Think Root+USB Mass Storage apk will help.
this seriously sux. why the hell would I want to set my phone to be on mtp/ptp mode with inferior file transfer speeds...
Thank goodness I bought myself the HTC One X and my Dad's the one stuck with the S3 =)
Yes, it is correct that there is no built-in USB mass storage mode in the stock firmware.
I have been looking for a way to enable it too.

I reformatted my SD card to exFAT and then it was visible via USB, from windows explorer I see phone and SD Card
I'm not sure if it was because i reformated card or because it was exFAT format but its there and it now works!

Didnt get it to work with UMS1.0.apk or MultiMountSD.
Just plug into computer
If you're intention is just to copy/paste from computer, just plug in your S3 mate to your computer.
That's what i do.

Problem when plugging my S3 with USB to PC

When plugging my S3 with USB it only says its a portable mediaplayer and does not show whats on my SD-card, Please help!
the fact that it shows as a portable media player is normal: that's what it shows for me when it's either rooted or stock. you should be able to click on it and see 2 storage options your internal storage and the SD card.

do you have an SD card installed? maybe it's the drivers not working. try on another PC and see if it'll read.
Drivers Problem
This frequently happens to my computer so I know how you feel.
To solve this problem,
1. Go to devices and printers.
2. Click on your S3 device, it should be there.
3. Look at the bottom of the window
4. If it says that the device needs troubleshooting, right click the device and select troubleshoot.
5. Wait for troubleshooting to complete
6. Your SD Card and Phone memory should now pop up on your computer.
Unfortunately i have not been able to find a permanent workaround for this problem. So this solution has to be applied everytime you connect your phone to the pc.
Hit thanks if i helped you!
thanks guys! i got it working!
Did you use my solution to get it working?
I found when I use stock firmware that changing from connect to MTP to PTP and back again, my computer finds the phone, eventually but running an AOSP or Cyanogen the computer finds it without any problem

[Q] I cannot mount my internal storage via USB to PC

Hello guys,
This is my first post and this place is still new to me so bare with me.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus. Rooted. Android 4.2.2
I am looking to recover some deleted files in the internal storage however whenever I plug in the USB to the PC, programs like "Paragon Backup and Recovery" and "Remo Recover for Android" cannot detect the device.
USB Debugging is checked.
I have been searching but no luck. Maybe someone here can help.
Thanks!
try kies and wandojia to update the lastest driver, it would help

sometimes change to another port would help
and also, you could switch mode (MTP, Camera, Mass Storage) and sometimes with debugging.
Eventually your PC would recognize and thus you could access to the internal data!
TRY harder man

I tried all that. There is no option for Mass Storage. Otherwise I wouldn't be here lol.
Are you sure you have installed every drivers?

Make sure every driver is properly installed?
You could use the Chinese synchronizing software "Wandojia". It could auto-detect and install the driver for you!
Or sometimes the option is hid under the category of more settings- wireless and networks- USB utilities
Or in storage, but you have to press menu to select the option
Just keep trying, good luck !

[Q] USB Mass Storage on Cyanogenmod 12

I'm sorry if this has already been answered (I couldn't find it) but I am having trouble finding USB mass storage mode on cyanogenmod 12. I get MTP and PTP but not Mass storage mode.

MTP is essentially USB mass storage that's what you should be using.
Google is your friend look what i found in 2 seconds http://www.howtogeek.com/192732/android-usb-connections-explained-mtp-ptp-and-usb-mass-storage/

last CM12 nightly i tried had usb mass host broken so check cmxlog and see if and when if they have fixed.
Previously i was able to connect my phone with my TV via USB MASS STORAGE (TV was able to detect my phone as a storage device), i could access the videos & songs after connecting it through but now i can't do that.
What i think is USB Mass Storage has been disabled on core Android/CyanogenMod in favor of MTP and PTP as there is a problem with the way mass storage works. When you connecte the device to the computer then mass storage method needs exclusive access of the storage (intarnal extarnal sd card) and so it disconnects totally from the Android operating system running on the device. Any files or apps stored on the SD card or USB storage would be unavailable to android os when it was connected to the computer so to make Android os running smooth during that pc connection but I can't appreciate this as mass storage is really essential to connect it to inferior devices like TVs and car music player.
Anyone know a way to activate mass storage in Android? Running on Android 5.0.2/Cyanogen 12
Came to this thread because I'm looking for the same thing, yet for my Xperia ZL. I've found MTP mode unstable on my device (even with stock ROM) and using it as Mass Storage Device is the only reliable way to access my 64GB SDCard. So IMO +1 on MTP/PTP not being the only available USB modes out there!
any update on this issue???
