Bootloader needs to be unlocked to run a custom kernel, just the fact the phone is [sim] unlocked is not enough.
I was going to suggest to flash the doomkernel from the GPe thread, if you had unlocked the bootloader and backed up the TA

Yes the GPe kernel should boot the rom on a c6833. I'm not sure why the rom wont boot on the stock kernel.

Hit the power button and vol up together and wait until the device vibrates 3 times. Doing it you will force it to shutdown completely. Now go ahead and get into flash mode.

I cant think of a way to get a non booted ZU into flashmode
I do have one thought on how to fix this - flash a system partition dump in fastboot, It will take me a little time to make this for you
Edit:
I have to charge the c6802 up as it is flat then flash a FTF and extract the files and test, all while the wife if using the PC (she has 5 days left untill she has finished a double degree, and a separate research project on the go - I may not get the PC for a few hours)

It looks like fastboot won't open a full 2.3 GB system dump, so there goes that idea
Do you have any warranty on the device? if so the steps below will void you warranty - if you haven't already. It will also wipe all data and the DRM keys
Have you flashed any kernel/boot.img? if so then do the last steps (5, 6 & 7) as well to get on a kernel compatible with the GPe ROM
You will need the fastboot drivers installed (should be installed with flashtool) and you will need adb/fastboot (should be in the flashtool folder)
Get your unlock code from Sony's dev site, you will need the IMEI # in the tag in the sim bay
Open a command line in the flashtool folder that has adb and fastboot .exe files
Enter this command:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock <unlock_code_from_sony>
Download either scrubber's kernel or DooMLoRD's GPe kernel
Flash boot.img with (if not called boot.img change command below to match):
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img

Thank you guys for your help and i am really sorry for flooding and spamming the entire zu thread.
This is my first time to root (sony way) and own a sony mobile, i was a samsung user before and ive never experienced this kind of horrible situation in flashing roms. I just bought my phone 7 months a go and i was so worried. If my Volume (-) rocker wasnt broken i wouldnt experience this nightmare, but i was hoping maybe someone knows how to turn the phone into flashmode without pressing the volume(-), unfortunately nobody knows.
I brought my mobile to sony service center and i hope they can fix it as i told them my software broke down and i need them to flash to stock firmware.
Edit:
i just saw my first post and it say fastboot mode! LOL sorry again.
i have no problem with the fastboot mode. I was stucked at FLASHMODE!
volume (-) is broken!

Flash to CM7: Stuck at sending boot.img

Hello everyone.
I am just trying to flash my Xperia Mini Pro to CM7.
But when I am trying to send the "boot.img" it seems to get stuck.
this is my sonsole output:
Code:
E:\Programme\AndroidSDK\platform-tools>.\fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce flash boot boot.img
sending 'boot' (5272 KB)...
this already stayed for about 30min.
is it normal that it takes so long?
if not, what do I have to do to fix it?
Thanks,
McFarlane
It's just take around 2sec to flash.
Try flashing boot.img using flashtool

I followed the instructions of the wiki. Can I verify somehow that it is unlocked?
(I've just installed this flashtool. But how to flash with it? )
My guess is u havent unlock the bootloader yet.
Heres a good tool to do it the official way, which might void your warranty if u choose to do so.

I installed the fastboot driver during the flashtool installation.
The Device Manager shows it as Android ADB Device.
Also, to flash the Xperia in Flashtools, it excpects from me to hold down the back button while plugging in the cable.
Which is not possible because it is a touch button. So noothing happens -.-

08/041/2012 23:41:42 - ERROR - ERR_SEVERITY="MAJOR";ERR_CLASS="SECURITY_CLASS";ERR_DYNAMIC="SIN header verification failed"
I never excpected this update to be so difficult...
I've updated my old G1 to CM once and it took me 1h with reformatting the SD card using a HEX editor -.-

http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/
I tried to follow the how to of the Cyanogenmod Wiki for my phone.
But flashing using their instructions doesn't work and anything the flashtool can do is not working either.
Its either failing or gets stuck without any response.
I am now downloading and trying the CM7 you have linked in your post.
Maybe this one will work...
Thats what I did now:
I downloaded the file you linked and extracted the boot.img
Then I connected my phone in Fastboot mode and tried to flash the kernel using the Flashtool - Fastboot Toolbox via the button "Select kernel to Flash".
Log output shows now: "09/016/2012 00:16:51 - INFO - Flashing selected kernel"
After that, nothing happens.
What do I do now?

Stuck at the sony logo after flashing Ice cream Pureness build 11

I have sony ericsson neo v on 4.0.4 build 4.1.b.0.431 with unlocked bootloader (by official method), rooted, and CWM installed by X-part. I believe the cause is that I did not format /system (in mounts and storage), format /cache, and format /Data.
I am unable to access CWM. Could anyone able to access CWM and then re-flash the Pureness by CWM, or I have to flash with FlashTool to install the original Stock ICS. Then start all over again??!!
I have not done any FlashTool before. Any guideline??
Many thanks!!!
Did you first install the kernel as advised?
If not, then flash the kernel through fastboot and then boot into CWM.
Sent from my Xperia Neo V using Tapatalk 2
I actually flash the follow the installation as follow but apparently omit step 4-6 below:
1.Factory reset in cwm
2.wipe cache partition
3.wipe dalvik cache
4.Format /system (in mounts and storage)
5.Format /cache
6.Format /Data
7.Install Xperia_Ice_Cream_Pureness_build_10.00.zip
8.Install patch for your phone model
9.Reboot now and you are done !
I did not 'first install the kernal as advised'??
Is this a fix, and could you tell me more how exactly fastboot and flash the kernal as you suggest??
Thanks!!!

In the folder where fast boot is present in your pc hold shift key and press the right button & open cmd, then enter fastboot flash boot boot.img)"boot.img will be the name of the img file you're about to flash"

Few more queries to clarify:
1. '......In the folder where fast boot is present in your pc hold': pc stands for PC Companion??
2. Do I need to download boot.img?? If so, please forward me the link??
3. After flashing the boot.img, is it just lead to fixing the CWM??
4. After fixing the CWM, should I simply follow the steps again on flashing the Pureness ROM, or I must flash the 'alliance kernel' first??
5. Please forward me the link for 'alliance kernel'.
Many thanks!!!
As for your questions,
1. PC here means your computer.. And the folder means that folder where you have kept your fastboot files!
2 & 5. Here's the link of the alliance kernel that you need to flash..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1566871
Copy this .img kernel into the fastboot folder, and rename it to boot.img
Holding the shift key, right click and you get an option to open the command window..
In fastboot mode, holding the menu key while inserting the usb cable.. Type the following in the cmd..
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Now turn your phone on.. Boot into CWM by pressing the volume down button.. Install the ROM from CWM!

Fastboot refers to unlocked bootloader as root.
Have you unlocked your bootloader?
You will know if you have done it! If you are unsure then you have not unlocked it, therefore, you cannot flash custom kernels so you need to either:
1. Use custom roms that are for LOCKED bootloader, or
2. Unlock your bootloader. To do this check the sticky threads in the DEV section

You cannot conect in fastboot with a locked bootloader.
Also, it seems daft that you are using 2 threads to discuss this problem.
My final bit of advice.
Download flashtool (its in the sticky threads in the dev section)
Download a stock .ftf (Found in the sticky threads in the dev section)
Flash the .ftf using flashtool when connected in flash mode (Not fastboot mode) You enter flashmode by pressing back button, not the enu button when connecting.
Once you have done that the phone should boot up with stock rom. Then you can use flashtool to install a recovery and install the pureness rom properly.

Download (Dont worry its for neo v, it doesnt matter, its just stockrom to get you going)
Place in firmware folder of flashtool.
Open flashtool
press flash icon
choose the file in the link
Turn off phone
Press back button and keep pressed then attach usb cable.
Flashtool will recognise your phone
let go of back button
wait untill flashtool finishes
disconnect and turn on phone.
First boot may take a while.
Goto settings and allow unknown sources and usb debugging.
Then use flash tool to root, install recovery and then you can install pureness via CMW making sure you follow every step in the guide, including all the wipes.

Can't enter flash mode

I did something really stupid, my volume down button doesn't work 90% of the time. However i was stubborn with a workaround i was able to get in flashmode. Started pc companion and flashtool and prepared flashtool, then did recovery trough pc companion. As soon the phone rebooted i ended pc companion and flashtool took over. Everything fine till then.
I rooted, installed ZU-lockeddualrecovery2.7.117-BETA recovery. Then trough recovery I flashed chemcup his .757 firmware. Flash went ok, then the next step is to go to flashtool and flash the stipped ftf (kernel and baseband). And here things went wrong, very wrong.
I can't acces flashmode, mun volume down button now really stopped working. Tried for 10 hours, but not working.
Obviously the device won't boot, so pc companion can't help me. Recovery isn't working, or at least the screen isn't working. When i acces recovery the screen goes black but i do have adb. I also can go to fastboot. At the moment i'm really really stuck, i hope somebody can give me a push in the right direction.
In short, no flashmode, adb and fastboot working
I'm not at a pc so can't check or create anything, but here are my thoughts, are you on a locked BL?
Get a stock kernel and flash in fastboot?
Get a kernel/recovery and flash that then get a flashable zip with kernel and baseband - I think someone should be able to create this for you
I hope these thoughts help

Do you have a NAND backup or anything? I'm assuming you want to go back to stock now so you can send it in for repairs or something? You have a working ADB and Fastboot, so you can flash kernels and stuff like that, but have you tried "adb reboot bootloader"?

I don't now how to extract the kernel from a tft and convert to a boot.img. The only boot.img i found was from doomlord, that one didn't flash....locked bootloader i suppose.
If somebody does have a flashable zip that would be awesome

Do you have a NAND backup or anything? I'm assuming you want to go back to stock now so you can send it in for repairs or something? You have a working ADB and Fastboot, so you can flash kernels and stuff like that, but have you tried "adb reboot bootloader"?

I have something in my dropbox, if i'm remember correctly... When there is live back in the sony i think its the right time to send it in for repairs.
adb reboot bootloader is working, it brings me to fastboot. If i only knew the command for flashmode, there must be one. Do you know if the is a trick with a usb connector with a certain resistance soldered into. In my old acer and lg i could enter flashmode with a certain usb cable.

You have access to Fastboot, so flash a different kernel with Recovery, and see where that takes you. If you get the phone booting again, you can buy DoomLord's "Xperia Reboot" app for around $2, which is totally worth it at this point, and use it to boot into Flashmode. You can see the Flashmode option on one of the screenshots.
This is pretty much your only hope at this point, so good luck!
I think you should be able to flash a .sin kernel from a FTF in fastboot with flashtool, that should get you booting I think
Then do a PCC repair and send in for servicing? or will that want flashmode?

Just back from the nightshift, so i can start trying again.
Fastboot won't allow me to flash kernel, my bootloader is locked. And at this moment i feel like unlocking can make at this moment things worse.
ITS ALIVE!!!
Finally it's alive!
Yesterdad it was alive for a bit, trough adb i manually flashed the LB recovery from NUT. Just used his script only entered each command trough adb.
So i had a full recovery by then, then i got really brave........ In short, i did exactly the same thing as mentioned in the OP. To make things worse, made a mistake with flashing manually the recovery.... recovery was gone...
My last option was to unlock, flashed jackie his kernel, and all is working again. My son can have his TAB2 back, i'm back in business:laugh:
Please, I'm stuck where you were, may you please give me the script you are talking about so I can use in fastboot, fastboot is all I can access. Phone will not boot to flashmode.
please share the script & steps that fixed your z ultra. mine is dead from last 1 months because my volume down key is not working please share the script

[Q] Phone cannot boot into recovery after trying to switch recovery

My D6503 is currently running paranoid android. Previously I've been using cwm but yesterday I decided to try out TWRP. I install TWRP using the TWRP manager in play store but after that when I try to boot to recovery it would show a black screen and orange light on the top speaker. Then I tried to install XZDualRecovery using the installer's method 1 (custom rom with superSU). However after install when the phone reboots it stucks and the sony logo keep flashing. I force shut down using the red button on the side and I managed to get to the system and removed XZDualRecovery. However I still can't get into recovery, it will just show that black screen and orange light. So I wanna ask you guys what should I do to get access to recovery again?
Thank you

use flashtool>flashtool.net to flash the TWRP IMG in the original development section, you will need to re-flash Paranoid android ROM to get cwm back
you cant change the recovery pre-packaged into a ROM
Xperia's don't have a recovery partition so recoveries are bundled with the kernel

I've downloaded flashtool but what function should I use to flash the img? Because the install recovery key is disabled for me.

I flashed openrecovery-twrp-2.8.0.1-sirius then when I boot up my phone after the sony logo the screen will become black. Then I flashed the boot.img inside paranoid android rom's zip file. I can now enter to the system but still cannot boot into recovery

hmm, odd, i think you will have to reflash stock, reflash stock then go back to PA
you can use flashtool to reflash a stock FTF

If I flash back to stock, will it relock my bootloader? And can you explain briefly what are the steps?
Thank you

it will not relock your bootloader
1. download flashtool
2. download a FTF (there is a ftf thread at top of the general section)
3. put FTF in firmwares folder in flashtool folder
4. click flash device icon at the top left
5. click the FTF you selected
6. wait for it to finish preparing
7. power off device
8. plug in flashmode (volume down held and plug usb in)
9. wait for it to finish
10. enjoy stock or install recovery and flash a custom rom

thank you very much. Looks like it gonna take plenty of time. Will do it later when I have time
There is a easier way to get CWM back. Just flas the boot.img from pa and then go into fastboot (in case you are not already and do "fastboot erase recovery"
On the Z2 the recovery is included in the kernel, and once recovery boots it get expanded to the recovery part. As this is filled by TWRP ATM, none of the 2 will boot.

1) Completely and utterly wrong section, this is Original Development. This is a question, it belongs in the Q&A.
2) You cannot use current root exploits to root lollipop. You either have to downgrade to kitkat, root that, flash locked bootloader recovery, and then install a pre-rooted ROM through recovery. Or you can unlock your bootloader, flash a custom kernel with Recovery, flash the SU zip in recovery and then you're good to go. Be warned that you WILL void your warranty if you unlock your bootloader, you will also lose your DRM keys and some functions (although lost functions are debatable). The first method (downgrade) is preferable.

You have to flash a custom kernel what has a recovery in. For example, AndroPlus v50+. And you do realise that now you have voided your warranty and lost your DRM keys? I did explain that in my other post.

If your drm-keys are intact, your bootloader probably isn't unlocked.
You may check if you go to caller app, push *#*#7378423#*#*-service info-configuration. what is written under rooting status?

You can use an app called "root check" to verify root.

You should probably use a kernel for 690 firmware if you are on lollipop rom. andopluskernel works great. also with twrp. use v50 or higher.
