Optical Reader missing - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

I recently switched from a Sprint SGS4 to T-Mobile and an SGS5 and the first thing I noticed missing was the Optical Reader. Is it just me or everyone? What solutions are there? I miss the simplicity of the Optical Reader from the SGS4...

Here are a few links for the latest 4.6.1.0 version:

Optical Reader is available for free on Galaxy Apps. if you dont have Galaxy Apps you csn get it from Samsung's website. if i may, if you like Optical Reader why not try Barcode Scanner available via F-Droid.

thanks, unfortunately this is the same broken version that's on Galaxy Apps. on my SGS4, that version would automatically pick up QR codes and text depending what was in front of the camera. with this version it only translates text.

as mentioned above, the version on Galaxy Apps is broken... I'll give Barcode Scanner a try though, thanks.

if you're looking for a text reader then try Google Goggles. that picks up text...er sometimes lol.

[Q] Default pdf reader

Does anybody know what is the default pdf reader installed on the Optimus One?
i think have no default but you can download some in market. Just search pdf
When I bought the phone I remember I could read pdf files without having to install any app. I'm asking because I've installed void and now can't anymore. I've tried Adobe pdf reader, but I liked the default one more.
ThinkFree Office, which apparently outperforms Adobe Reader on my phone.
Thinkfree lite doesn't seem to have an integrated pdf reader.

It works fine when I was on my stock ROM. What ROM are you using?
Void.delta, and you?
I'm using Light ROM. I reinstalled ThinkFree just to test this out.
Screenshots of TFO with a PDF file
From the look of the icon of pdf file it seems it relies on an external app, like I said.

[Q] Readers hub, PDF magazines?

Hi all
Can anybody with a GT 10.1 (p7510) tell me if I can read PDF magazines via Readers Hub?
I'm going to New York to buy one next week and returning to Denmark I would like to read some pdf magazines that I have downloaded. Is that possible with the preinstalled apps?
I dont think there is a Readers Hub yet...
but you can read PDF with Adobe Reader on the market

Don't you? I thought that GT came with Touchwiz and all Samsung apps including the Readers Hub?
Okay I'll try that... If anybody know about Readers Hub is preinstalled and if I can read my magazines in that app that would be great...
The upgrade to TW should happen "soon"

Then what about the google book app? Does that support imported PDF's?
No. You can't import anything into Google Books, See http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/books/thread?hl=en&tid=71705bdedebe9722 for details.

I have installed the inofficial 10.1 WIFI TW Rom (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1167250) and the included book reader is able to import books and PDFs.
J.
I upgraded to TW but no Reader's Hub yet.. too bad.
Besides that, TW way better than Vanilla Honeycomb.
For Magazines, try to use ZINIO - excellent app.

can you import magazines into ZINIO?
Don't think you can you have to subscribe to the, or download individual issues. BTW I think Samsung have integrated Zinio with touchwiz, looking at their latest ads.
I don't think the tablets will get a Readers Hub. If you look here, you can see that the only hubs Samsung mentions is a Media Hub and Social Hub. Under books/eReading all it mentions are the Kindle and Google books apps. I also don't see any mention of the Games Hub either. If this is true, that kind of sucks.
guys
The readers hub is made of:
press display (newspapers) zinio (magazines) ebook (books).
The first 2 are in the market, for the third one download google books from the market.
So everyone already has readers hub.
I have no problem at all reading magazines that I download elsewhere within Zinio. They are in PDF format.

Do you import them in? I tried that with Zinio and they didn't show.
Edit: Oh, nevermind. I assume you are typing of the special version of Zinio on the Readers Hub.

[Q] Adobe Acrobat reader for WebOS - bookmarks?

I bought the Touchpad to be a sheet music display, and I've made a nice PDF file of all the arrangements I play with my band, only to discover that the Adobe Reader on the touchpad apparently will display thumbnails but not bookmarks in my PDF file. I tried to work around it by creating a table of contents with hotlinks to each song, but apparently, hotlinks aren't working in the WebOS version of Acrobat reader, either.
Am I missing something or am I truly screwed here?
Is there a third party PDF reader that I should be using?
Anyone got any better ideas for a workaround?
If you're not opposed to it...here is a workaround. (You're not screwed)
Install Cyanogenmod alpha 2 to your Touchpad and use the android version of adobe reader. It works fine.
Thanks, but no thanks. I have CM7 on my Nook Color and I'll wait until they have something stable for the Touchpad.
Believe it or not, cm7 is really stable now, just give it a try, besides, you don't lose webos, it is dual boot (and you share the storage between both os)

no bookmarks on webOS adobe reader was a really big gripe of mine, i LOVE reading books on the touchpad, but remembering the page # every time got really annoying >:/ (ended up have to make a note in the note app with the book/page#)
im not sure theyre gonna even update adobe for webOS anymore either, but it DOES work perfectly on CM7 alpha
I believe this is what you are looking for. Someone hacked the adobe reader and it appears to have bookmarks now

great post for those who still use webOS
Dang, I thought that was just what the Dr. ordered, but the bookmarks implementation is the exact same thing as the thumbnails. I need the title of the page to display as a bookmark, not a thumbnail of the page. Darn it, so close.
blerg that sucks, perhaps you can peruse the app store and preware for a more suitable "ebook" reader that also supports PDF's
While Picsel smart office doesn't support bookmarks like you described, it can handle hyperlinks, so your revised PDFs may work. Note though, I only tested this on a single PDF file, so YMMV.

Aldiko ebook reader - buggy on Note 10.1 2014

For those looking for an ebook reader and tending to use or even buy Aldiko, the following information might be of interest.
I purchased Aldiko and with change from Note 10.1 to Note 10.1 2014, pages with graphics were suddenly displayed as blank.
Some tests showed me finally, that Aldiko is yet not able to cope with the screen resolution of the Note 10.1 2014 (if run in split screen mode, the pages are displayed properly).
Unfortunately, although Aldiko knows about the problem since October and the reason since December, nothing happend. Instead support requests are simply closed without any comment, there is no answer or reaction from the support at all.
Presently, I cannot recommend Aldiko anymore. A pity as I paid for the software.
I use mantano and moored both work well and I can have books on my so card
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
I have a subscription on the beam store where Aldiko offered the option to download purchased ebooks within the app.
That's why I purchased (and I wanted to support the developers as the app was good on my GT-N8000).
What about MoonReader?
I second moon reader, ive been using it for 6mons and it replaced everything else

If you need something fast mupdf beats all competition. The UI is kind of clunky but when it comes to speed of rendering pdf it can't be beat.

I have MoonReader, what I missed is the direct integration of eBook stores (buying and downloading).
And what I do not understand is the fact that Aldiko knows about the problem but did not fix it and the app is still available for the Note 10.1 2014 in the app store.
I like the Mantano, the interface is nice and clean and it handles notes well other than the insistence of heavily branding exported note review sheets.
The biggest issue with Mantano is it's inability to handle pdf files. If you select text from a pdf and copy to another application or activate TTS it splits w or ds wi th l o ts of sp ace s, so it renders TTS and copy functions as useless. I wrote to Mantano as at £6.69 it's the most expensive single app I've bought, I had the following response:
" Thank you for your email. Yes we are aware of the issue that you report. It is caused by the software component (from Adobe) that we are using to parse the PDF. We are investigating fixes but we currently have nothing really satisfying. We don't let it be, we'll try to fix but it might take longer than we'd like..."
This is unacceptable as far as I'm concerned for a paid app, ezPDF can cope well with pdfs, but the interface is the equivalent of an ageing digital turd.

Thanks for the hint... now I just need to get the part working after login (I am always sent to the web site instead of showing the content of the private section inside the app).
As Aldiko still just closes all support requests without answering, I contacted Google for a refund. And I got the refund.
So, as a result people should clearly thing before buying Aldiko with regard to the support policy and the behaviour in fixing bugs.
I like iReader Pro, has no problems with everything I throw at it (epub, prc, mob), works well.
It is free on the p[lay store and has no ads that I've seen. Liked it from Gingerbread over Aldiko...
Give it a shot... Price is right...
I used to use Moon reader, but now I tend to just upload my drm free books to google play and use the play book reader. It syncs, it reads to you (with ivona voice amy, it's tolerable) and it stays in your cloud library. And it has the smoothest 3d page turn animation. I usually end up buying a Kindle ebook, use calibre plug in to dedrm in windows then convert to epub then either upload to google play on the pc, or upload it later when accessing my calibre library with the calibre companion app.

Try cool reader. Its not as fancy as others but it has more settings than any other reader. You can really adjust your reading environment. It also supports tts. I own the others but i usally use cool reader.

Write on pdf

I have very mixed feelings about this tablet. On one hand, it is an upgrade with number of nice features, on the other there are really strange solution or inwould say abcense.
Having the s pen and not providing full specter of functions like previous models had, it is strange for me.
My actual question is how do you guys sign your pdf files? I used to sign all my documents with my note 5 with the software Write on pdf ( samsung software ). I have the same software on tab s3, however my signatures are veasible only when open in that specific app, not in any other pdf viewer. Moreover, in google playstore it says that tab s3 is not supported by this software. This is very important for me, cause i am signing many documents on the go and was expecting to continue doing so.
Looking forward for your suggestions.

Why not use adobe fill and sign app from play store . I don't use my tab to sign but i tested this app out i am able to see the signature on my PC too. The Spen seems to be working with app so give it a shot.
Squid app (paid but has trial) has write on pdf function.
I use personally "Xodo pdf reader and editor" for writing in pdfs. Even on a Tab2 without a digitizer built in it works very well.
