XSP-N1BT not chargin z3 - Xperia Z3 Accessories

Has anyone tried the Z3 in a Sony N1BT car stereo? I just installed my stereo yesterday and I can't get the magnetic charger in the cradle to charge. I thought it connected for a second and then it stopped. It's really hard to get it in the right spot. I called Sony and they are getting back to me. Not sure if my phone is the problem or if its just a really poor cradle.

Same problem

I have the same problem. When you change the application it works again, and sometimes it remains connected. I think that there is a software problem, the device(s) are ok.

I can't get the charger to work at all.

Mine works pretty well. Tricky to get it lined up with a case on it, but easy otherwise. And it charges very quickly.

Does anyone have an update on this? I have this head unit and and I just bought the new experia Z3. It connects to the magnet because I can feel the pull but it does not charge.

Exactly. In my case it's the same, it you want to try, when I switch to the radio, or phone, or Bluetooth audio, it charges 5 or 10 s, and stop charging (landscape view affected too). I don't know how notify Sony the problem, it's possible than a firmware update on the radio would resolve the problem.
Please, tell us every advance.
Excuse my bad English

I have the xsp-n1bt as well but i have no issues charging it. I dont use a case though because even with the tpu cruzerlite it didnt sit low enough to make contact and charge. You will feel a firm click and it will lock in place when the phone is connected to the magnetic port. With the case i would feel the magnet pull the connector on the radio up but not click and lock in.
At first i would have to play with it to get it to line up easily as the bottom of the phone (the side with the magnetic connector) has to be spaced out a little from the face of the radio.
I did add 2 (attached photo) of these low on the face of the radio and it made it much easier to effortlessly set the phone in the radio dock with one hand while driving. It keeps the phone from sitting too far back and not making connection.

I got it to work a couple times, Sony told me to clean the contacts. But it's still hard to get it in the right place

I have this issue. I can get it lined up and when turning the stereo on or off, it will charge for a few seconds then stop. If I leave the phone in place and turn the car on and off the behaviour is the same so obviously not a problem with the physical connection.
Annoying

Just to add more detail. I have found that if I change source (using App Remote) it will start charging for a second then stop. I can change between CD, Tuner, or a smartphone app and this behaviour will manifest.
Could it be something on the phone messing about with power? I'll experiment with my girlfriend's Z3 Compact and see if that is the same.

I found that if you place the phone to the right of the dock and slowly slide it to the middle and hear the click of the magnetic mechanism, it will start charging. It happens to work much better for me like that.

Tried my girlfriend's Z3 compact and that worked fine so it seems to be either the z3 model or something about my phone.
It's obviously not a problem with the positioning because it is charging intermittently (when changing source).
Does anyone work consistently? Put in on and if it starts charging, does it stay on?

Hello, I'm experiencing exactly the same problem with my Z3 (D6603)
- Charges for 5 seconds, then stops charging
- Pressing [SOURCE] on either the app remote or Head Unit allows it to charge again for 5 seconds, then stops charging on it's own.
Phoned up Sony support and they asked me to try things that were just written in the manual, which I already tried anyway. They then referred me to Xperia support, but not looking great there either.
They did confirm the Z3 is fully compatible.
Not sure where to try next!
EDIT: Just tried Xperia support. They said I need to test the magnetic charger on something else. Don't fancy buying a dock just to test it!

Hello everyone, its my first post here I hope it helps, sorry for my poor English.
No doubt my N1BT is working because my old Z2 still does the job. I'm having the same troubles charging and fitting the Z3 on place. After tricky precision I can manage to see the thunder icon but just for 10s like everyone else.
Once I got a message how says something like.... the phone consumes more power than the power provided by the charger. Or similar. And the thunder icon went off. I never got that message again, but I know is the same behaviour.
Once I made it work for a long time and all was fully functional changing the USB preferences. From MTP to MSC.
But while I was messing with my phone I decided to get a non branded sony stock version. All went fine and I started with a fresh system. I just installed the app remote and all google and sony updates. So I went to the car to fit it in the N1BT and it showed the thunder icon for 10s and off.
Now knowing that the USB preferences can solve it ...... No this time for me.
I tried another sony stock version for my country and same results.
The point where I get the thunder off is when THROW inside app remote changes to the car audio device. In the walkman app I can see a flick in the screen previous to get disconnected there's a small cut in the audio but keeps working from battery.
I have another error. Using the Z3 placed correctly on N1BT and obviously not charging I can use it running from the battery. If I press "Voice button on the N1BT" the app remote crash and the thunder icon is on again. If you don't press "accept " in the report window the app remote won´t restart and during all this time the phone charges. Once the Z3 restart the app remote the thunder icon goes off again.
I did another weird test. I have a Sony NFC BT sound bar and the Sony dock charger and also another magnet usb cord I bought. My test was to confirm the consumption, so I played audio to the sound bar while I was using GPS with with open aps in the background. I was connecting the normal USB for charge from wall socket an from PC, the sony dock charger and my magnetic cord. The Z3 did the job with any complain about energy.
About VOICE, every time I press it, I get a crash in app remote. And make me think about something related to Google voice and recognition. The error comes with the rounded window with a microphone but it never finish to complete the window or show the header with the supposed walkman or contact header on top. And this is changing form one app to another forget about searching for a song.
I hope we can find a solution, thank you for your time and patience.

Just to add some more findings. I put the phone in the stereo but powered completely off and it charged correctly. Clearly this is a software issue on the phone.

I wouldn't bother. You have the exact same problem as me and I have a desktop dock too which works fine so I very much doubt it's that.

Hi, I tried the MTP to MSC thing but it made no difference for me.
Can I assume from your changing roms that you are rooted? If so can you try using titanium backup to uninstall Throw? (Back it, and probably your rom, up first!)
I suspect that is the culprit but as a non-root user I can't do anything with it.

Good news: It's now working for me
Bad news: Not sure what bit made it work!
I'll list what I did so someone can perhaps replicate my results.
Z3 non-rooted - Android v4.4.4
1) Enabled Developer Options
- Enabled USB debugging
2) Connected Z3 in head unit whilst Z3 and Head Unit was OFF. Waited for it to start charging for about 30s.
-Turned on Z3 whilst connected.
3) Secured the Z3 into the Head Unit
Pressed THROW on the Z3 quick settings to connect rather than normal Bluetooth connect. Selected Sony Xperia Z3 (Sony Car Audio) from THROW options.
Now it works! The connection needs to be a bit better as it is quite loose, but I can work on that. I think the key for me was the THROW bit. I've disconnected/reconnected several times and it charges without disconnecting now.
Good luck - and let everyone know if it works for you or not.

So Bluetooth was off until you chose Throw?

That's correct, I turned off Bluetooth and then selected THROW. It then turns on Bluetooth for you anyway.
After that, it doesn't seem to matter if Bluetooth is on or off.

I'll give it a try later. Thanks

Mute while charging

Guys,
Here's a new one on me. New Cingy ROM w/1.40 radio installed yesterday.
Most of day reinstalling apps. No biggie. This AM had the unit out of the USB cradle and ON the HTC charger cable.
Noticed that I had no or VERY low sounds. Ring in, screen clicks (set to loud), everything I tried resulted in little, if any, sound. Ahhhh !!!
Cleared and reinstalled the OS. Restore from yesterday backup on hold. STILL no sounds.
Now what ? Take it back to Cingy ? Hmmm rather not waste the time doing that. Searched the Forum. Stopped the startup animation. STILL no sound.
Pulled it off charger to play around with sounds screens some more. BINGO, sound was BACK.
Restored my backup. All except this AM's install is back. Sounds work fine --- UNTIL I plug in the charger, then they're gone again.
Anyone else experienced this ???
MUST be a new "feature" from the ROM gurus at AT&T or HTC.
Wanted to post something in case someone else has the same heart-failure I did this AM. Now will finish my install, rebackup, and get back to work on more mundane items.
PS, if anyone has a hack to disable this wonderful new feature, please post it. I'd rather have the sounds than the heart-failure again. THANKS
Its not a dodgy pin on the charger making it think its a handsfree kits as well as a charger?
Off in a different direction

Karzi,
Well, your question led me off in another direction.
Removed the HTC Y-connector on the end of the charger cable. Charger alone results in sounds, no problem. Returned the Y into the mix, sounds, no problem. THEN, attached the mini-USB to mini-Stereo adapter I had purchased (to allow regular stereo headphones to work) to the Y-connector... NO sounds.
Apparently the new OS now recognizes that there are "headphones" attached (even though it's only the converter) and turns down the speaker volume to "non-existant", although not completely muted...
See, I said it was a new "feature".
Mystery, however, is solved.
Will now store the usb to stereo adapter with the headphones, rather than leaving it in the charger cable.
THANKS for the "redirect".

Phone stuck in Headset mode

I'm hoping someone can help me with this.
I woke up yesturday morning looked at my phone and noticed that the little icon you see when you plug in a headset was appearing.
I thought that it was quite strange condering i never use a headset so i did the obvious thing and plugged a headset in and removed it, yet it stayed there.
I've tried everything, cleaning it, moving the jack around, i even installed a new rom and it's still stuck in headset mode.
I'm guessing it must be hardware related due to the fact that i did reinstall the rom.
If i slowly insert the jack of my headset into the 3.5mm port, there is a point where the icon changes to display just headphones.
Anyone have any ideas because it's really bugging me having to use a headset to make calls all the time?
Unfortunately, it may mean that your Hero is soon for repair.
I had this problem - instead of using the headset, you can also use it set to speakerphone as a work around for now.
For me, a week later the mini USB port only allowed charging, not USB disk or sync and was told it was a circuit problem. Sent it away and all problems have disappeared with change of the mini-usb "flex" inside the handset.
The first tech support guy said this indicated that there was an electrical contact inside the 3.5mm jack which may have got some dirt or water that was completing the circuit and making the phone think there was a jack in there the whole time. Try visually inspecting it and ?remove any dirt with high pressure air? Just an idea.
Good luck.
Did you try one of the toggleheadset apps yet? (http://code.google.com/p/toggleheadset2/ or http://code.google.com/p/toggleheadset/)
It's a far shot, as you already changed your ROM, but you might want to try it nevertheless.
I have contacted HTC but haven't heard anything yet.
The second app you posted allows me to turn it off, however for it to work properly during phone calls i have to make sure i answer the call and then turn headset mode off.
Thanks for showing me the that app as it will help me use the phone whilst wating for HTC to reply haha.
Thank you very much elmicha. Toggleheadset is a life saver app.
My HTC Hero always stucked up in headset mode if I ever plug in the headset unless it is restarted. For a long time I had been scared to plug in the headset to ever listen music coz I'll have to restart it to bring it out of headset mode.
I tried the toggleheadset2 which is available in market but it didn't work for HTC hero. Fortunately, the toggleheadset widget worked.
Thank you very much guys. XDA rocks!!!

Is there anything for a more recent build? Having a similar issue on DLEV 2.3.4 on an Infuse...
Reinstall with RUU should fix this
Hi,
I had similar issue, headset not working and device not recognised by usb. The installation of ice cream sandwich had screwed my phones drivers such that even older roms that used to work never worked again. Please install an original HTC RUU after a complete wipe, solves all problems.

In short, at half the price of the HTC Stereo Clip, I don't see why you would buy anything else. (A simple male to male adapter and it'll plug into your head unit just the same.)
Audio Quality: It's great! The new APT-X codec(?) is awesome. It would take a double blind hearing test for me to tell the difference between the Samsung and a wire. Can you tell? Maybe, but requiring a double blind test is good enough for me in my car.
Note: I have the bluetooth feeding directly into an amplifier that feeds my speakers. I no longer have a headunit.
For me, there are so many benefits of this unit vs the Stereo Clip.
Less than half the cost ! ($30 vs $70 for HTC Clip)
I can plug ANY set of headphones into the bluetooth and have "wireless" headphones
Has a built in mic, so I can answer calls with it in the car or out
Great battery life
Comes with a nice pair of short corded ear buds that have decent sound isolation as well
A minor gripe: If you look at the photos, the buttons are really small with no tactile differentiation. I always have to look at it to figure out what side I'm going push. It would have been so easy to make one side have some tactile difference.
Nice review!!! I just received mine yesterday and I love it as well. Definitely worth 30 bucks. Agree with everything you posted!

can you pair two devices to this thing (i.e. ELTE for me and 4S for my wife)?
I'm looking for an a2dp adapter to do a fixed install inside my car. Can I leave this hooked up to a usb power source constantly and hide the reciever in my armrest? Also is there any problem using these for a2dp only and using my car's built in hands free?

I would be interested to know if it would automatically power on or stay on for a fix car install. If you just want a2dp fixed install, check out the isimple isfm21. It does hard wired fm modulation or rca line out and has an Android app to change fm frequency.

I don't see why not. In fact, it supports two simultaneous connections as well (if the devices support it).

I have mine hooked up in a sort of fixed install. I have a USB and 3.5 mm cord running through my dash up to my sun visor where the Adapter sits, I was also going to do a totally fixed hidden install, but that would have hidden the built-in mic negating the hands free calling functionality. As long as your armrest isn't surrounded in metal (blocking the bluetooth signal), you should be fine. I briefly had it in my center console to test and it worked fine, then I realized, hey I won't be able to use the mic if I do that.
My USB is hooked up to a secondary cigarette socket I installed that is only live when the ignition is on. You definitely could leave it hooked up to a constant power source, but I don't know what that would do to the battery over time (the bluetooth battery and your car battery). I've decided to play it safe and not kill the battery. Having said that, if it's permanent, it shouldn't be an issue even if the bluetooth battery stops taking a charge. I've seen laptops that have dead batteries, but ppl are able to still use them plugged in.
It doesn't turn on and off automatically, so here it may be different from the StereoClip (I don't have a StereoClip so I don't know). It does work while hooked up to power so you could leave it on all the time as mentioned above. I turn mine off although I did forget one time and left it on, no biggie since it's connected to power. I'm going to set up a tasker profile to remind me to turn it off.

I don't know. I do know that it supports a2dp, and it supports two simultaneous bluetooth connections if the devices support it to play music, but I'm not sure how that works with calls and whether or not it would try to play the music through your car's hands free system and whatever you have plugged.
I've never had a car built in hands free system so I don't know how that works. There's a small section in the manual about simultaneous bluetooth connections if you want to try and find the manual online.

Sweet man.. I just bought one based on your review. Do you think you can take a picture of your setup?
I purchased one too, along with a whole host of cables to do a permanent hidden installation.
My only fear is leaving it on all of the time, only charging when I am in the vehicle. Hopefully it has a "standby" mode to conserve power when the power switch is on but nothing is connected.
OP, I won't get mine until Tuesday, is there anyway you can test a permanent always-on installation like I'm talking about by seeing how yours does leaving the power switch on for a day or so?
The tech specs list a 130hour standby battery life. Should be more then enough when the car is not moving. my delema is that I cant find any decent Y adapters to split my one usb socket in my car into 2, But that is another story.

My concern with that is it'll only charge your phone in USB mode which isn't enough when using navigation with the screen on.
I ended up getting a dual USB adapter that charged in AC mode and running two usb cords.

If you have the car dock, it forces AC mode, as long as your charger has enough current (at least 1A).
My charger is 2.1A, the bluetooth will probably pull 500mA and the phone will pull 1A, so in my case (with the dock) the hub should work fine, and will look a lot cleaner with only one cord running from my cigarette lighter to behind my dash.
But to each their own. I'll take pics of my setup on Tuesday.

I haven't made it pretty yet. I usually run my stuff for several weeks before I shore up all the wires and hide everything behind the dash properly and make a custom plate to cover up the head unit opening and paint the L Bracket I used black.

You know what, at first I was like NUH UH! And then I remembered, the first dock I got didn't do that AND it eventually stopped working (charging) and I had to exchange it for another one. So it was probably faulty. Good to know. Thanks for the heads up.
What's the range on this device? Sometimes I don't have good signal in the office so I have to leave it by a window. Usually no more than 20-30 feet away. Wanted to know cause I like to stream Pandora usually all day while I walk around the office.

I've found that the Bluetooth signal is very dependant on a variety of factors. You'll likely be on the edge of its range though.
For example, in my house I've been 20ish feet away and it works fine, but if go in a certain corner with a bunch of appliances it gets crackly.
I've also parked directly in front of a strip mall store and gone inside easily 30 feet with no issues.

I'm glad to have found this seeing as how the HTC stereoclip does NOT route your phone calls, when a phone call comes in it mites the music and it will use the speaker on the phone nut your car speakers. It only routs music. Which seems incredibly dumb to me. But I suppose HTC has to sell you another blue tooth device to take phone calls.

Probably because they couldn't be bothered to also lower the phone stream's volume and if they had a mic on the device it would just pick up the other person's voice from the car speakers and it would be a whole bucket of echoes without active noise cancellation.
I got mine, and I have to say it sounds fantastic. I have it in my "fixed" install. basically I have it plugged into a cigarette lighter that turns off with the car, and the audio is running under my console to the backside of my radio.
With the HTC car dock, my phone connects to my factory bluetooth handsfree for phone calls, and the Samsung for music, and standard audio, such as nav.
Only problem I have is it stays on when the power is off which means my phone stays connected when I go into my house.
I am considering cutting the battery wire on the inside to solve that issue.

Hellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllo XDA peeps.
so ages ago we all got the marshmallow update and i must say, issues have been a real thing. I did consider ROMS but too risky as i use this phone daily for business's and such.
Anyway so one problem I can not find across the whole internet is the AUX cord problem, now when i drive, I plus in the cord and this notification appears saying "Headset is connected" then disappears, then repeats almost 8 times and lags my phone which after this, goes to normal and finally works. However!
I found that in lollipop I had never had this issue, I just plug in and it works perfectly. As well as this, I found its not a hardware issue, reason being is that other headphones work, every set of headphones i plug in work like a charm.
I have cleared data and cache from smart connect, even disabled it and nothing. Ive booted in safe mode, nothing.
I really just want this sorted as I love this phone, I do. Im not sure if this is a Marshmallow update bug or something but if any fix can be found or advised to me; Id love you forever, because i miss being able to just plug in and play and not waiting for this bug to simply calm itself from this spasm.
Lag is an issue, I have no clue why but it seems the newest update caused things to get hot, lose alot of battery quick and just plain ol' lag. Any fixes on this to is perfect, at the moment though I iwsh to get the AUX cord fixed as a priority to lag.
Anyway, thanks guys and hope to hear something soon! After all, this is a 007 phone, bond never had these issues
Are you sure its not the physical connection on your phone? May it happened to get damaged when you upgraded MM.
Headphones work fine for me. I recently got a rental car with no bluetooth and bought a cheapo stereo cord to hook to the car's speakers and I saw this occur. No lag though. The major annoyance was that goggle play music would stop thinking the headset was unplugged. After some dangerous debugging while driving, it seemed like one end of the chord was defective. When I swapped the problem went away.

Literally nothing hardware related, the cord in my car works fine with other devices. It's very weird and as I say, I did a short test and found that lollipop on this device actually creates no problem, I then updated tonight and found it happens again.
I think it's more software related and I hope android N is just a pure wave ?
I have the same issue.
So so many problems with this phone ?
I have the same problem as well. What I do is plug the jack, wait for it to finally recognize it and then launch the app I need

No service after replacing loudspeaker

Hi! I have Sony xperia m4 aqua and I recently changed the Loudspeaker because it had bad sound. When i installed the new speaker and turned the phone back on the sound problem was gone, but I don't have network. It says emergency calls only and I can't call anyone or be called by anyone. Searched a lot on the web but no luck so far. Tried to manually register network from settings-mobile networks-search networks but no result. I changed the sim card, no change. Restarted the phone many times.
Please help!
Maybe you forgot to connect antenna or some connector inside phone during replacing of earphone.?You will need to open again phone to inspect all connectors inside.

There's a a little progress. I opened it again and reatached the signal anthena cable on the downside(which you can reach after removing the loudspeaker). Maybe it got loosen after removing the bad loudspeaker. Turned the phone back on and it found network. But now there's another problem. The strength of the signal is not full and the Wi-Fi isn't there or it founds it for a little bit and then it's gone. So I'm wondering now if this little cable is the problem and should I try to change it.
P.S. Bulgarian too
Maybe you should check WiFi antenna if it's properly connected, inspect visual cable for cracks and etc. If WiFi work fine before changing of loudspeaker, then should work now if everything is good connected. Try to reconnect all connectors inside phone.

Yes it worked fine before changing the loudspeaker. I just opened it again it visually I don't see anything that isn't good connected. The only thing i can think of is maybe this cable
Sony Xperia M4 Aqua Signal Antenna Repair Guide - which is on youtube

Here it is (after removed battery and loudspeaker)
You should inspect both coaxial cables connected at left and right. Maybe there are not good connected, try to reseat both of them on both sides to see if this will helps. Use magnify lens (лупа) to inspect cables and connectors more precisely.

ok
This is a English based forum. Tiny white cable is for antenna. Check both cable and connectors.

My sister phone also get this issue too. Her phone model number is E2353.
But it just suddenly happen yesterday. There's nothing critical activities that she did.
I've already try
1. Toggle the wifi, airplane mode
2. Reboot into safe mode
3. Manually register the network
What's going on with her phone?

Did she drop the phone by any chance? Or has she taken it into the water? No matter how much Sony claim their phones to be waterproof, they're never 100% waterproof especially when they get older (the heat from charging/general use loosens the glue/seals a bit).

Is your loud speaker working?
I believe the speaker is built into the same unit as the mic. If the loudspeaker isn't working either, then it's an issue with the cable. If your mic is dead and loud speaker is working, then it's a lot harder as that board is quite a pain to replace.
