Can you have same number as sim in Note 4 on any UK network ? - Samsung Gear S

Simple question, I have a Note 4 currently with a Three UK micro sim . I am using the Gear S connected to the Note 4 is bluetooth mode. I know how to take calls on either the watch or Note 4, but can you get a nano sim for the Gear S on any UK network that has the same phone number as your Note 4. That way if you go out without the Note 4, you don't have to
give a different number to anybody.
Also, it means if you call from your Gear S, it won't show up a different number. Can this be done? If so how and with who?

It seems the answer is no, but half your problem is solved anyway....when you leave your phone at home and go out with just the watch, the phone will automatically divert your Note 4 SIM number to your watch one. So you will still receive calls to your normal number without any issue. The only problem is when you dial-out, the wrong caller ID is sent. I don't see a way around that but of course you could set the line up to with-hold the number so at least the other person doesn't see a number they don't recognise.

Thanks for replying. Just to be clear, to forward calls from my Note 4 to the Gear S when not connected via bluetooth, is this done in the Gear manager or is it as i think, within call settings itself.

It's done at the call settings level, but it happens automatically without you having to press any buttons. Once the bluetooth connection is lost, about 3-4 minutes later, the watch connects to the mobile network and sends a signal back to the Note 4 to tell it to initiate call forwarding (at the call/network level). This means even if the Note 4 subsequently was switched off, or ran out of batteries, the call forwarding would still be maintained.

confused about connectivity

So ive had thd gear for 2 days and im confused. When using my note 4, if i left the phone home i thougjt the watch woild act as tye same number etc when out and about. They tout that yoi dont have to give out a seperate number etc. Was i wrong on this account.
It should if the Gear S can connect to your phone remotely. There are know bugs that if you leave Gear WiFi on, it may not connect to your phone reliably.
How do connect remotely and shut the WiFi off. T-Mobile told me it wouldn't work

Did you enable call forwarding so when your bluetooth is out of range it will go into call forward mode ie calls/text from note 4 you want standalone use gear only mode

You can set it up for when you call from Gs To display note 4 number or Gs number . But if you are in gear only mode then yes you will call from the watch number

When you BT connected to the phone, the cell radio on the watch is forced off. You can't receive SMS or calls from your watch number. All calls go straight to voicemail. This is true regardless if you setup auto call forwarding or not.
So, don't give out your watch number.
Well that's a bummer. I really wanted to make calls independent of the phone and have my main number show up
You still can. Just turn off the BT and let it remote connect to the phone. You trade off the battery life and a few features (that won't work without BT connection) for the sake of independent phone radio.

It can be configured on the watch for what outgoing number it shows.
I enabled call forwarding on the watch and gear managerband now if I'm out of range from the note 4 the watch connects remotely.
Then when I make a call or send a text it shows up on my wife's phone as coming from the Note 4 number and not the watches own number.
Just make sure that WiFi on the watch is switched off and call forwarding enabled on both the watch and in gear manager app.

Whenever I'm connected remotely, the outgoing call number is my watch's phone number and not my phone. When I'm connected via Bluetooth, it's the phone's number. I have played with the settings and have call forwarding on in both areas. My text messages show as my cell phone even when remotely connected just not outgoing calls. I'm getting a little frustrated as I want to leave the phone home sometimes and I don't want people to have a different number. I can't change this setting when connected remotely as its grayed out.

I tried it. The number is set as my gear's number and it is grayed out so that I can't change it. Maybe this is a limitation of AT&T's network. It might not be able to place a call as another number remotely. This works for messages, just not for calls. This is somewhat disappointing as it negates the idea of not giving out another number when you leave your phone behind. If I ever call anyone, they will have no idea who it is.

nope...will only change if a) the gear network is on always ON or b) its on auto...and your not on wifi or bluetooth to phone...will work...

[Q] Verizon / Issues with Call Forwarding

My Gear S (Verizon) is paired to my Note 4 (Verizon). While paired via blue tooth the watch performs beautifully. Unfortunately, when not connected via blue tooth I'm unable to get Call Forwarding to work. The Samsung on-line tutorial shows an "Automatic Call Forwarding" option within the Galaxy Gear App, however, the only call forwarding option I see in my Galaxy Gear App simply says "Call Forwarding". When I choose that option...and verify my Gear number is the number I want to forward calls to...my Note 4 dials *92 then my Gear number. The Verizon message then says that number is not valid and my call forwarding stays in "Requested" mode without actually enabling. I've checked with Samsung help they say it's Verizon. I've checked with Verizon they say "that's correct *92 is not valid...you need to request Call Forwarding from your Note 4". When I try to explain the Gear is supposed to automatically request call forwarding when away from my Note 4...the customer service people at Verizon have NO IDEA what I'm talking about. So...after this long post...does anyone have this working with Verizon? If so, how?
*92 will work, but only after several rings. I counted like 8 rings. *72 is the right number to use. not sure if it can be changed anywhere. As for auto-forward, this feature was just added for everyone else in the most recent update. unfortunately, Verizon being the software nazi they are, have not released this update to their version. Just need to wait.

I've tried everything to get *92 to work. Each and every time I'm greeted with "We're sorry your call cannot be completed as dialed. Please check the number and dial again. Announcement for Switch 192-4" The Call forward option on my Gear stays in "Requested"...without actually having completed a successful call forward request. Verizon did get call forwarding right (on my Note 4) for "All Incoming Calls"...which properly dials *72. For "Unanswered Calls", however, I believe it should be *71 not *92 (as my Note 4 dials) . Unfortunately the Gear does not allow you to choose "ALL" or "UNANSWERED"...seemingly defaulting to "UNANSWERED". The people at Verizon say I have the correct two prefixes to forward "ALL" (*72) or "UNANSWERED" (*71) and they can't tell me why the Note 4 is hardcoded to *92 for Unanswered. The people at Samsung simply state it's a problem with my carrier (Verizon). As a workaround. I entered a FWD contact into my Note 4 that properly dials *71 .but I have to remember to do so from my Note prior to departing with my Gear (leaving the Note behind for a run). When I told the Verizon rep this was how I was getting around the issue she replied "there is NO DEVICE that can forward your phone...you must forward from the phone itself" I'm hopeful Verizon issues an update quickly...and pulls their head out of their rear...but I have friends with Verizon Nokia Lumia Icons still waiting on their 8.1 update (Verizon is the last carrier...and almost 5 months behind to release)...so I'm not holding my breath.
Same issue here with Verizon Gear S.
When attempting to forward all calls from the watch, it dials *92 not *72.
*92 does not forward the call, only get the number was mis-dialed recording.
Major function of this watch is non-functional and Verizon or Samsung say it is each other's problem.
So Sad because this device is so promising!

I can set up call forwarding independently but then if I get a call on the watch, I am unable to transfer it to my Galaxy Note II (the button doesn't work). I suspect this is the reason.
Solution to Gear dialing *92 instead of *72
Found it on the Verizon Community page. Following is the entire transcript:
One of the coolest features of the Samsung Gear S watch is the ability to forward all calls from your phone to your watch remotely from your watch. Unfortunately, the software dials *92 then your Gear S number.
This call fails because *92 is not the proper number to forward calls. It should be *72.
According to Verizon and Samsung support, there is not a way to change the *92 to *72.
There is also no known software update to fix this error.
This takes a MAJOR function of the watch away and with no "promise" to correct.
Sadly, the omission of this feature = return it to Verizon. Any Gear S watch owners found a way to fix this issue?​

After talking to several "levels" at Verizon tech support, I finally got someone that knew what was going on.
They entered a ticket to the network team to add the *92 short code to my area's switch.
Now the *92 auto forward is working flawless.
He also stated that he would check the other switches nation wide to verify that *92 was an allowed short code.
So the problem is FIXED!

I'd have to tell all my contacts " this is my new number " or perhaps my telcos (Telstra Australia) could port my existing number to the Gear S.
I'd still (obvs) need to have a host Samsung phone on a plan, always charged / plugged in to the network - but I would still be able to utilise the functionality of the paired Gear S / Samsung phone ecosystem (including the few Gear S Apps which are useful) without say the call forwarding headaches or having two numbers?

Just put your phone sim in your GS. Use the same number.
Just have your phone at home with no sim connected to your WiFi.
There are some issues that you might be willing to live with or you could always fall back to the normal setup with two Sims.
The call forwarding and two numbers is not a headache in the least. Works brilliantly.

i have that on a high data plan which was originally used for my ahem iPhone + tethering that to my laptop. I can now downgrade that plan as my contract time is up - which is part of the reason why i ask my question now
- if my operator has a suitable shared data plan i could presumably change to that and swap sims

It did seem to work for me like that at first, but if it always worked brilliantly I wouldn't be asking the question
I've tried giving my Gear S number to work colleagues, told them to use that number especially when I'm travelling in and out of cellphone range (er check the flag and the location)
what happens is i return to a load of missed calls & messages on the Galaxy S4 host phone some of which were important
(+/- notifications on the Gear S - I still can't figure out if they reappear when i get cell coverage again or when I reconnect to the S4 host phone via BT)
I was kinda asking / trying to articulate: if the Gear S had my "one & only" official personal phone number, would that work as a simplified personal use case scenario in line with my Gear S as my one phone zeitgeist with no obvious drawbacks
I might still have occasional use for the host device - but its only essential function would be a Gear S enabler (ok something of an expensive function)

Following this advice I've set my Galaxy S4 to Always forward to my Gear S number and will see how that works.
I also done gone ahead with a shared data plan.
Some of the call forwarding options previously greyed out or otherwise denied now seem available - whether through following the advice in the link above or through the telcos allowing more options on that plan versus the Gear S being on a prepaid/ PAYGO i dunno
I also ordered an S6

i'm still puzzled how your suggestion to have a sim-free Gear Manager compatible phone plugged in at home & connected to wifi would work - the host phone would still need a GSM connection for the few useful apps to work - and indeed a number for my telcos to redirect from?

AT&T Gear S - What's the dang deal with auto call forwarding?

I love my Gear S and the main reason I bought it is for the fact that it can auto call forward and connect remotely. Lately however the dang thing does not seem to work if at all.
What's the deal? I have my Note 3 connected via BT. Both devices are connected and working just fine, and all is good. If I leave the house 1/10 times the Gear S will work properly forwarding calls and being connected remotely. Otherwise, it just never works and gives me that dumb error on the watch to Try Again. It never works, so I reboot it. Again, 1/10 times it will work.
Today I decided to work through this and of course it's not working. It says that the phone is connected remotely but I am not getting any notifications. I can from the Gear S, I can send email from it, but texts and notifications go into limbo. WTF! I swear, it's a love / hate with Samsung and it's issues like this that make me hate them.
Now I've reset the Gear S and am in the process of restoring it in hopes that somehow this fixes it. If not, I'll blow it away again and remove the gear manager and start from scratch.......again!! I had to do this back in Feb due to the Gear S giving up taking a charge for some stupid reason.
Sorry for my frustration, but WTF is wrong here? Anyone have these issues? I'm on the edge of leaving Samsung for something else just because I"m getting tired of this crap.
I have the AT&T version too and was getting this issue. Go into the call settings on your phone to see if you're getting the NETWORK OR SIM CARD ERROR. If you see this, you need to reboot your phone and your Gear S.
I have a Note 4 on Lollipop, but what I do is:
Go to the Phone app
Tap the three dots on the top right
Tap settings
Tap Call
Tap More Settings
If you see the sim or network error here, the call forwarding to the Gear S will not work and you will have to reboot your phone and watch.
If you keep seeing that error, then call AT&T and have them reregister your device (phone) sim to the network.
That's what I did to fix mine. This might be just a Note 4 issue in my case but the steps might work for the Note 3 also.
It could also mean you have a bad AT&T signal where you are because the watch has to communicate with the phone before initiating the call forwarding.
Go to mobile carrier settings and set the phone to forward unanswered calls to your S's assigned phone #. This way if the software fails, the carrier's network will forward the call to your watch regardless.

Thanks. I actually do that through a nice widget if I know for sure I'm going to be out with watch only. Mainly so the inbound callers don't have to sit through a number of rings before their call comes to me.
That said, it's really a band aid as the darn auto forward should work. I'm going to check what was suggested above and see what I find. The problem is last week it said it was connected remotely but I wasn't getting any notifications. That coincided with no call forwarding, thus I think the problem is more than just forwarding.
I reset the watch, restored, etc. and it worked once. I'll know more this week. THank you again for the input. Any input if very much appreciated.

Sorry to hear you have a&t. Connected remotely and call forwarding are two completely different things as you may know but regardless of the matter its not Samsungs fault. Your device showed that it was connected remotely therefore it was....the real issue is your wireless carriers crappy network not pushing your notifications plain and simple not your watch or your phone. Both are working just fine from what you've stated which leads to the fact that its your network connection. Only GSM networks are capable of auto call forwarding which as I stated is completely carrier network based. No offense but at&t sucks anymore and havent seen these issues with anyone but at&t customers. Its on at&ts end. Call and complain about your issue but unfortunately I doubt they will do crap which is why I left at&t 3 months ago. Hope you can get them to figure it out.
I was having the same problem. Used Gear Manager to turn off auto forwarding, rebooted phone, turned call forwarding back on and it solved the problem. Unfortunately you have to wait until you are back with your phone to resolve the issue.

The problem is lollipop if restore your phone to kitkat then setup call forwarding then upgrade to lollipop and you will not see sim or network error again

I don't think it's lollipop. It's now been working fine since a Gear S reset. I just think Sammy needs to figure out the bugs where ever they are. Moot point once someone else comes out with a nicer styled one with a sim card as I'll likely go that route.

ok glad to hear but that didn't work for me as when i went to call setting on my phone i still received the sim network error until i did the restore but glad it worked for you

I finally figured out this only happens to me after I have Bluetooth paired to my car or a headset. Only happens every once in awhile. If I reenter my car and turn it on, as soon as Bluetooth reconnects it's back to working. The problem will come back if I don't reset my phone. Then all is fine for a few days. In my case obviously the bug is in gear S bluetooth not my phone or my car as the same thing at times will happen with a Bluetooth headset.

I have the AT&T version too and was getting this issue. Go into the call settings on your phone to see if you're getting the NETWORK OR SIM CARD ERROR. If you see this, you need to reboot your phone and your Gear S.
I have a Note 4 on Lollipop, but what I do is:
Go to the Phone app
Tap the three dots on the top right
Tap settings
Tap Call
Tap More Settings
If you see the sim or network error here, the call forwarding to the Gear S will not work and you will have to reboot your phone and watch.
If you keep seeing that error, then call AT&T and have them reregister your device (phone) sim to the network.
That's what I did to fix mine. This might be just a Note 4 issue in my case but the steps might work for the Note 3 also.
It could also mean you have a bad AT&T signal where you are because the watch has to communicate with the phone before initiating the call forwarding.

i would like to buy a gear s but befire i wouldl like to know if it's possible under Tizen to take a phone call on the gear s without sim card inside with bluetotth connexion with phone?

Yes, you can receive and also I believe make phone calls with the Gear S without it having a SIM car as long as it is connected via bluetooth to your phone. It will use your phone's number and cellular connection.
The advantage of having a SIM car in your Gear S is that is gets its own phone number and cellular connection. This means that you can leave your phone at home or whatever and use your Gear S for phone calls, GPS, texting, web surfing with the Opera Mini browser. You can also have phone calls forwarded from your smartphones phone number to your Gear S phone number when the bluetooth connection is lost, but that means that your smartphone will ring, than instead of going to voicemail like normal, it will ring on your Gear S, than you can answer it there or after that it will go to voicemail.

Yes, you can both answer and make calls from your synced cell phone on the Gear S. I have a data only SIM in my Gear S and it still makes calls through my phone by default. Note: I and using it with a Lumia 1520, so that's about all it does with my phone.
