I had the same issue with mine. It seems to connect better if I have the phone unlocked with the screen on then press the connect button on the Gear S (not a physical button, just on the screen). I'm using AT&T so you may be having a different issue.

it fixed itself with a restart. Now it's good. But I heard you have to change the ringer count before voicemail or it takes forever to forward the calls.

Mine does pretty good on battery life. Two days if I use it bluetooth connected to my phone and don't try to use any mobile networks. One day if I use the watch as a standalone phone without my Note 4 nearby. Although I have noticed that I sometimes get less than a day if I have horrendous service (literally one bar or no service all day). I also get one full day if I set the watch face to stay on permanently so I don't have to raise my arm to see the time. As far a lag, I haven't noticed any. Responds just as quick as I expect it to :good:

[Q] Anyone got video calling working?

I've been trying to video call a couple of people using the 'Video Call' button in the dialler/contacts on the Galaxy S II but haven't got it working yet. My boyfriend has a Dell Streak and kinda thought considering that has a front facing camera that it would work!
Anyone know what protocol the video calling is using? Will it work with other phones besides the SGS2? Has anyone got it to work?
Download tango from tge market.....you can call iphones but they have to have it installed as well

Yeah I know. I've been using the Qik Video Connect app too but I was wanting to use the native video calling just to see what it was like.
i have used it to call my wife ...it worked ok and she has a galaxy s though. Cant comment on other phones though.

Maybe it's a Samsung only thing. I dunno...
I think it's proper 3G video calling, but I no longer know anybody with a phone that supports this as everybody is on new-fangled smartphones that can't do normal video calling.
Wait, just tried it with my colleague, works fine.

Trouble with 3G video calling is the price, last I could remember it was like 50p a minute and never took off when 3 UK started promoting it initially. Mind you, the data plans have got up now (though 3's all-you-can-eat sounds good) I suppose.
Cheers,
I had to ring orange to activate it, now is working , wouldn't let me ring a video call until I did

Ooh, interesting! That just the standard 150?
Aye 150, then after explaining the issue to the first agent he sent me to the more specialist team (forget name) and even he had to put me on hold to he find the issue as he had never come across it before. Took 24 hours to activate.

I'll give 'em a ring. Need to call 'em about them stuffing up my account login online too.
Looked up the price and I don't think I'll be using it all the often when I do get it activated. 51p a minute to call my boyfriend on O2!
Do you know if you get any minutes included each month?

dumbest thing ever but
Hello,
I am looking to get a new phone the SG2 has been a dream for the last month but everybody says go for the IPHONE.
I need video calling like skype or tango, skype would be awesome but no release for android yet.
I am a social networking freak, no gaming, tweeting and facebooking mostly and youtube. and skype
so what shall i go for SG2 where people tell me android is too buggy with its apps and there is no skype but there is tango or ooovooo and a 2 megapixel camera
or the damned iphone that trace ur ass and kill chinese staff. very complicated choice and i think id love somebody to tell me that get the SG2 becoz skype will release a video calling feature for android soon and that the apps are not so full of bugs as some say.
or somebody tell me get the heck out of this forum and go get a damn apple toy!
thank you

Skype are working on video calling and there have been a couple of leaks but it appears it'll be a Verizon exclusive for a few months much like the app was.
I'd go for the SGS 2 but that's because I love Android. It's so much more customisable and the range of apps is pretty much the same. Go into a store and play with both; see which one you like best.

i dont think so , and yes its quite steep, and the quality isnt great either, was very jerky when i called my girlfriend in the same room. we both got g2's.
qik video was much better through wifi, not tested it both on 3g / H yet
.. as for included minutes, it says this on the webpage
if you're on pay monthly
Your Plan 60, 120, 200 or 300
30 minutes per month for 3 months
Orange Premier – 600 or 900 minutes
60 minutes per month for 12 months
im on 1200 minutes a month so i might ring em and see if get a few minutes, but it doesnt use your regular minutes i know that much .
Guys are you saying the Video Call button in the dialer is only intended for British networks?
Can I "setup" that button to call using Skype, if I am not on Orange or some other network that supports the original Video Call functionality on SGS2?

Camera Crashing and Locking Up

Hi Guys
Im on XXEMC2 412 Stock, not rooted
Only had my S3 (I9300) for 2 weeks now and its been working great, so decided to have a go at exploring the phones deeper features, but when using the camera its started locking up, even saying "Camera has Locked Up/Crashed". usually when boot Camera from Home Screen, Booting from Lock screen seems to be ok, also when I use "back" button or view a photo, sometimes the screen goes black and the homescreen is stretched and odd display. Ive tried Rebooting, but doesnt help but everything else is fine.
I did a search on XDA, and found plenty people with the camera issue, but no solution as of yet and it seems to be mainly the T-Mobile USA Variant that does this, had anyone got any advice pls or is this the start of the Sudden Death issue and should i return the S3
Thanks

Thanks, Is there a particular App you recommend that would highlight a specific fault, or just anything
The store I bought it from has a 28 day swap for new S3 if faulty policy, but if the S3 is faulty outside the 28 days, they send it back to Samsung.. so ide rather it went wrong now, hence, is there anything I can test

Ok, I tried Cartoon Camera, Multi-Lens Camera, Zoom Camera, Camera MX and Camera Effects.. all worked great. I did have lockups on these apps when I used them for the first time, but after that.. they worked great, so.. question..
Could my Lockups and Crashes be due to the fact that I was playing around with "burst shot", "Best Shot" changing white balance and metreing for the first time and the S3 was initialising the camera driver?.
I have 2 weeks left before the 28 days runs out, so ill use the camera and push the phone to its limits constantly.. is there anything I should particularly test for or try with the camera and the phone itself to make sure my S3 isnt dying?
Cheers

Everything seems to be working Great without issues from both lock screen and homescreen, so ide like to think that may be it was a driver setup issue, however, ill give it another day and work the Camera.. then yeah, if it does it again.. ill get it exchanged.

[Q] Gear S needs latest Samsung Phone to even work?

I've read somewhere that Gear S need the latest Samsung Phone to setup for it even to run. If that's true, it's a let down.
Was looking forward to use it as a stand alone backup phone. If you don't own the latest Samsung Phone, will it function as a standalone phone for call and sms?
Maybe only for initialize and to get a Tizen app?

I think you need a Samsung phone with the Gear Manager App to get it started and for future updates. But after that i think you can use as a stand alone phone. you can check out some youtube vids for more info. I dont think anyone has purchased the device yet.
I'm one of those who got it on 15 October. Largely enjoying it.
According to the list of compatible phones published by Samsung, most of the phones from 2012 onwards are compatible.
I believe the reason is because Tizen is still largely a Samsung undertaking for now, and they own the largest number of developers for it.
At any rate, you REALLY don't want to be swiping on this with 1 arm crooked all the time, and squinting at the 2" screen. Serious.
Currently, the only phones compatible with the Gear S are the Samsung Galaxy S III, Galaxy S 4, Galaxy S 4 mini, Galaxy S 5, Galaxy S5 Sport, and the Galaxy Note II, 3, and 4.

My Samsung Gear S just arrived today. I was excited, thinking that I was getting a standalone cellular device just like all the hype buzzing around claims. Not true. The Samsung Gear S is not a standalone cellular device despite all the false advertising to the contrary. I just got off the phone with Samsung tech support and they verified that the Samsung Gear S smartwatch needs to be connected via bluetooth to a compatible phone (Note 2, 3, or 4; Note Edge; Galaxy S 3, 4, or 5). If it's not connected and within 33 feet of the phone, you cannot make or receive phone calls, emails, or text messages. It's not just a matter of setting up the watch using a compatible phone and the Samsung Gear app and then going on your merry way without the phone making phone calls out into the way beyond. This overhyped dud doesn't work outside of bluetooth range even with it's cellular receiver. I tried asking Samsung tech support why in the world the Gear S even has a cell receiver at all if it can't work without being connected to a compatible smartphone. The only answer I could get was something about it being a convenience of some sort if you want, for example, to go for a run and leave your phone in the car. I imagine that's only good for those joggers who don't want to run more than 33 feet. Needless to say, I'm sending this overpriced "standalone" smartwatch back for a refund. I hope this adds some clarity to all the overblown rhetoric about this disappointing device.

Lets start off with did you do a little research on this "overhyped" device before you purchased? I mean, easily seeing its a SAMSUNG device would be a safe assumption that the Gear S would work best with a SAMSUNG phone. And that one possibility that it MAY work with other devices, maybe research that first to get confirmation? But instead, just purchase Gear S based on hype? Well, thats not good is it?
It doesnt work outside of bluetooth range even with its cellular receiver? Funny, I DO NOT have this problem. I can make calls, send text and use multiple other things that this device offers. Now will I always leave my phone at home? Highly doubt it. But those times I may leave it at home, I'm set.
You talked to a Samsung rep? lol. Thats not good either. It amazes me that so many people still go by what some of these reps say. Samsung has some great products (as others do too. But I cant speak for them), but I'll put my trust in a XDA member before I even THINK to put it into a Samsung rep. Not saying they are all bad, but many have NO IDEA on what they are talking about.
So yeah. I agree with you. If your not willing to just take a little time out and research the "overhyped" device you purchased. You might want to send it back. Its obviously just not for you.

[Q] HELP: Texts from Two Phones Syncing on Gear?

I found some suspect texts on my BFs samsung gear smartwatch. He claims his coworker had his phone synced to his via bluetooth at one point so whenever he's at work, sometimes the coworkers texts will sync up and appear on his watch. Is this possible? I'm not tech savy so I asked samsung and they said that two phones cant be paired on a gear at the same time, but if one phone is out of range, then another can pair/sync up when its in range. Still confused. Any insight would help.

As far as I know what Samsung said is correct. Two phones can be connected to the same watch but not at the same time.
So, if your boyfriend allowed a co-worker to connect once and never deleted the connection afterwards, then whenever your boyfriend is at work and walks too far away from his phone, he goes out of range and loses connection to his phone. Now, if that same colleague from before is near your boyfriend's watch while it is not connected to anything else, and this colleague's phone has bluetooth turned on, then his phone would reconnect to the watch and your boyfriend could start receiving the colleague's texts on his watch.
So is it possible? Yes, although I'm not sure why he has others connecting to his phone, or why they want him reading their text messages... Either way, maybe someone else here can confirm what I just explained...to be sure that I'm not making a mistake somewhere and misleading you in any way!
Edit: OK it seems that the watch resets as soon as you pair it with a new phone. Didn't know that until just now! This means that it doesn't look good for your boyfriend's story...
It CAN'T be paired to 2 different phones. The gear will factory reset

Thank you so much for replying. He claims the coworker connected to share data/files? Is that even possible? Seems very strange to me. Also, does it sync recent texts or just real time texts as they come in when it reconnects via blue tooth? Meaning existing texts would load or just new ones after its connected. TIA

It can only be connected via bluetooth to one phone.
---------- Post added at 12:33 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:30 AM ----------
The phone it syncs to has to have gear manager installed. If it syncs to another phone it will factory reset the gear s.

Thanks. Samsung claimed it can go between one phone and another "seamlessly" if one phone is out of range? They didnt mention the factory reset but if thats the case, its anything but seamless.
It is true that when you attempt to connect another phone to your stock unrooted Gear S it asks to factory reset, therefore what your BF is suggesting is not true.
Samsung CC has told me many inaccurate things in the past.
My advise, if you are suspect of youtr BF that is, is to never bring anything up about your suspicions. Let him continue his life normally. There is no way he can cheat on you for an extended amount of time without you finding out.
However, if you talk to him about your suspicions, he may becaome extra - super - paranoid careful and that will complicate things further.
Dump him and I'll swing over to pick you up just kidding, hope things work out for the best.

This isn't a technology question... it's a relationship question. Welcome to Car Talk
So... my general advise to anyone who suspects their non-married partner of cheating is - move on. Drop off the Key, Lee. Either you're right, and he/she is cheatng, or you're wrong, and you have trust issues in this relationship. Either way, why waste your time if you're not committed. Just move on.
If you're married, or in a long term relationship, seek counseling as a couple.
The technology red-herring answer - he's lying to you about the text messages. Why you were checking his watch for text messages I leave as an exercise for the reader.

Same thing was happening to me. GF was upset from some texts that showed up on my watch. We figured it out, that when my watch went into Gear only mode, which it would once I was out of range of my phone, I would get these texts from whomever had the phone number that AT&T issued me on the watch. So maybe that is happening?

Yes that happens to me too, but in this case the boyfriend said he paired it with colleagues to share files, etc.
As a general note to everyone, lets try to stick with providing the OP with technical clarity here, not relationship advice. We all want to help, but we're more likely to give her great technical info than we are to give her great relationship info. With technical help she can make up her own mind accordingly
The boyfriend could have let his friend pair with it and is getting crap texts on the watch's internal number.
Who is to say the boyfriend is technically savy enough to know for sure versus pointing out the only out of the ordinary usage he had.

i think that means
1 it is possible to get wayward texts and calls due to telcos recycling numbers
2 the bf may have indeed have done the pairing he said he did with his friends phone
3 yes the Gear S would have reset when bf re-paired with his own phone
4 but in fact the dubious texts might be due to fact 1 and un-tech bf was confused about the coincidence
is it technically possible to ring the number and see who answers?

The consensus I got from difft places was it could technically happen, but it's highly highly unlikely given reset issue.
He's a cheat. He doesn't deserve my energy or anyone else's on here.
I really appreciate everyone's help and input.
You guys are great :good:

To much batery drain. Screen while notification comes always on phone dont go to sleep mode.
Digging deeper
Sorry just woke up.
So now that I am awake I did a little bit more digging.
Apparently what I am seeing is not what I thought...
I think...
It appears that they added a ring around the cutout now but it only appears when you are on the unlock screen and while you have facial recognition turned on for unlock.
No clue if this was present before. But still cool either way because that means that they have it working and can add it for notifications.
