Final version of lollipop for nexus 5 was relased - G2 General

Now who want can porto a stable version for nexus5, but this post, is not to brake developers balls, but because i want to know if the problem to port is in the kernel.

The kernel is the problem

Still trying to understand this. All these phones are getting ports but there are people saying we need a whole new kernel. Yet the bigger devs are supposedly already working on a port?

Jackpotclalvin got lollipop to boot on the Verizon g2! No ROM yet, but eventually its gonna happen. Be sure to thank him for his hard work too!

Yeah I don't know either, wish a Dev could explain this to me... The Optimum G has a mostly functioning Lollipop ROM according to a post I saw on G+ yesterday... Why would it be harder to build for us? Especially since so much of our hardware is similar to the Nexus 5...

You do not need a 5.0 kernel for the G2, older devices have newer versions of android w/o having the corresponding source. I'm using 4.4.4 on my Galaxy S1 just like my G2 (except the S1 obviously didn't receive 4.4.x).

I think that a kernel is important for performance OK, but can boot too without a perfect kernel. Wait ThE big dev

LG G2/Nexus5 hardware rom compatibility ?

In the future, will it be possible to extract Nexus5 rom/updates and apply them directly to G2 ?
Just asking, because G2 and Nexus are sharing a lot of same hardware.
It'll probably be easier to port Nexus5 rom, instead of having a lot of work on a common 10.2CM ?

Its fairly easy to port ROMS from Nexus 5. However reading log cats is the main thing here. Thankfully most people can't read log cats so it stops the noobs flood the place with terrible ports. To answer your question yes it can.

Just asking, because i'm really fan of AOSP/light roms.
We don't know availability of Nexus5 (already out of stock), so G2 could be a great alternative to Nexus5 (with better battery lol)

Yes, but is it better to port rom from Nexus5 directly (with probably minor adaptations), or to adapt a common CM10.2 tree to G2 devices ?

there is a guy with a video on youtube that says he has files to download to the g2 to make it a virtual nexus 5. he demos it and says the files are in the description but I did not see them there. He says no root is required and it does look like a nexus 5, but I don't know if it is kitkat or not. it also looked like he was getting some FCs too.

Yea the Optimus G Pro already received 4.4 based off the N4. I'm suprised we haven't got 4.4 based off the N5 yet. Perhaps the devs are still getting comfortable with the new hardware.
Real good to know about the N5/G2 ease of porting. I'm particularly curious about the kernels and how similar they are to one another. Moving forward with newer versions of Android, the kernels are the important thing.
I'm hoping it'll be easier to port roms over. The only concern I have is whether or not they'd work with the VZW version. Not sure if you could use the RIL from the G2 or a new file from scratch would have to be made to be able to get working data.

of course it's possible to port franco kernel to the g2. the kernel sources are released from lg afaik.
but someone has to do it which is really bad with that many different device configurations.

Get the nexus 5 .if ur gonna keep complaining about lac of dev support.
This phone is new and will take a while for development
As for the s3,the device may have cm11 but it has plenty of bugs because of exnyos
And s4 is based on Qualcomm 600 which I think Devs are pretty familiar with
So plz if u really want to stay here and discourage others I would request u to kindly buy the nexus 5 and get what u want

As for the Galaxies, they have been out longer, have a wider breadth of developers so more people have eyes on it, more people familiar with the kernel etc. Also, the Nexus 5 is different enough from the G2 that I really don't think we're going to see simply ports to our hardware. Just like the Optimus G and Nexus 4.
If you want a Nexus-like experience, get a Nexus. Simple as that.

Not just sad, but unbelievable. Guess we need to gift a LG G2 32gb to a Cm developer.
I think its possible to compile CM11 with what is currently available. I'll try and setup my build environment later this evening. I'll give it a shot. Bugs guaranteed but ... we need more bleeding edge stuff for this phone to attract more recognised devs to develop for this device.
Its people like these impatient dou***bags that make devs not want to build for us..if you want it go build it yourself and stop trolling this isn't Google+. If you want to troll do it there like everyone else.

Kernel source (4.2.2)

Hello everyone,
HTC just released kernel source for HOX and kernel source for HOX+ is just uploading at htcdev.com
slow downloads at the moment, mine's been going for 5minutes already
A little bit offtopic maybe, but does this mean that we might be able to get 4.3 and 4.4 ports from HTC One?

Finally Can we expect some improvements for 4.3 or is it just relevant for 4.4?
Is this new kernel source likely to help with MHL in AOSP-based ROMs or is the MHL problem caused by something else?
Hope to get a good kernel to help our One X+
As far as i know mhl is not a kernel issue its related to other proprietary drivers

IM aware of that, im not kernel expert, but your saying HTC cant provide us 4.4 update using this new kernel sources, unless Google also updates?
And another note, its only matter of time Google updates to this new sources, than i see no reason HTC couldn't too.
Anyways, regardless, i just want to bring some of HTCs attention to our phones, does it hurt to try ?
The update to 4.3 is a minimum for hox+

Wouldn't mind it at all.
Only thing now is that I'll need to set up a Linux PC at home (currently only have it at work and a Windows PC at home). Of course I can try developing on Windows for a Linux target, but from my experience it's way more effective when your development host runs Linux. Guess I'll only have the chance doing that in a week or so, as we have a long holiday here now.
