Compass calibration - Samsung Gear S

Every time I switch off and on my Gear, I has to calibrate the compass.
Can everybody confirm this behavior?
Many thanks.

yup, pretty annoying.

Yes, that seems to be the case. One has to wave the device around for a minute until it gets a fix on the magnetic flux.

Does anyone have a solution in place for the "Shake to wake" to check time?

I really want to "Shake to wake" my TrueSmart to just check the time. I have been doing this action with my pebble since I got it and its the last thing I need to address for this to really satisfy my user experience. Thanks to @Lokifish Marz we know about WatchOn and the sensor issue that is with the TS 1/8 1900 Firmware. Does anyone have a work around for this?

I think I have the sensitivity at like 14 or 15 or 16. Sometimes it takes a pretty good wrist shake (rapid counter-clockwise to clockwise motion) to get it to wake up, but it works reliably. Generally if I know im gonna look at the watch, ill shake it first then raise it up to look at it.
Great thanks for the info

how is it on battery life? Just installed so thanks as well, but curious to hear since the app warns you that it will consume a lot when off
Try Awesome on/off
I tried several different versions of shake to wake apps and the most consistent was Awesome on/off app. It has a tilt angle sensitivity so when I bring my arm up to look at the watch it turns on the watch face screen so I can tell what time it is. I set my watch for display off in 15 seconds but 30 seconds seems ok. Battery life seems fine. I can run my watch with a full charge all day. I plug it into the charger in the evening. I intermittently play with it through the day and mostly use it for sms notifications from my Note 3 using SMS forward app on my Note 3 and checkbook using anMoney app.
I also use Shake with somewhat what reliable results.
I combined it with Llama to turn the screen off after 7 seconds when Watchfaces is the current app or running in the foreground with it set to cancel if the condition is no longer true.
Both if these work most of the time.

infrared sensor

Every time I lay it down, the sensor turns on. Is there anyway to disable this? Has this happened to anyone else?

Infrared turns devices on. There is no sensor. Are you referring to proximity?
Uninstall Google Fit. That should fix your issue.

It isn't infrared, it is the heart rate sensor. Uninstall Google fit. It is a well known issue with Samsung devices

[Q] Please help me ...

Basically, out with my daughter at the beach today and dropped my phone in the only tiny shallow pool of water around!
It was in there for about a second at most, coz I grabbed it out SUPER fast, gave it a shake, blew all over it, wiped it down on my nice dry top I had on etc.
2 big nasty gashes in the screen, but luckily I had a screen protector on!
But, they were really nasty looking things and just couldn't pluck up the courage to take off the screen protector until I got home, as I was 100% convinced screen was gonna have at least a couple nasty scratched bits etc.
However, got home, took off protector...PHEW, screen was still in perfect condition, so was the bodywork/chassis as I had a case mate on it.
Everything seems fine with the phone, apart from to the left of where it says 'htc' the is a constant red light that stays on no mater what.
I think this is the proximity sensor?
Any ideas how I can get this light to go off and stay off??
Really guys, ANY help would be sooooo much appreciated.
Thanks
Matt
Yes, on the right of the htc bezel is the proximity sensor. Even if your daughter dropped the phone, I don't think this affected the sensor. Does it stay on even if you turn the phone off? If not then I am sure some app is using it.

On the LEFT side of the htc bezel there is a red light that stays on, but if I turn the phone off, then the light goes off.
It's only happened since I dropped it in water today.
Any ideas?

But it sounds really weird that a damage could cause it. Seriously. Please ensure there is no app running in the background which reads data from the proximity sensor. One time I was using some app, don't remember the name, never mind. It had an option to make use of the proximity sensor. Even if I turned it off, the proximity sensor was on all the time. Disabling the app/uninstalling it fixed my problem.

I know what you mean, the app is Called Viber and some users used to experience that using that app.
I've never used Viber and have checked all other apps. No result.
I downloaded Elixr 2 from the market and ran the Proximity Test.
Don't know What it means, but here is a screenshot of the result:

Any more really is super appreciated.
thanks.

When I make or receive calls, the screen acts perfectly as it should.
Goes dark when it's at my ear, the lights up when I pull it away from my ear, just the damn proximity light is on all the time draining my battery.
Anyway to turn it off?

nope, do you use the other sensors?
you can rename or nuke the following file, note that the rotation/prox/light sensors will be toasted after
adb shell
su
rm system/lib/hw/sensors.enrc2b.so
or to move it replace the rm to mv so do this mv system/lib/hw/sensors.enrc2b.so system/lib/hw/sensors.enrc2b.so.old

if it doesn't then you might have to disable it in the kernel, if you know how to do that. I would do that, but zero time sorry...

Both screens turn off from time to time

Hello. I have weird problem on my Lg V10 H901. On 2 to 3 days it happens for both screens to turn off, and you can't wake up the phone with double touch or with power button. And I'm sure that the phone is working because I can feel vibration feedback when I press and hold power button to go in to power menu. The cure is to pull off the battery and put back on and start the phone. For two or three times it happens to show white screen with little colored dots on it when you power on the phone. Otherwise the phone works normal. . No glitches, no heating, nothing. It just go off when it sits on desk and won't came back till you pull off the battery. I don't believe it's a screen because when it happens the both screens go off. Could it be the motherboard, processor or memory, or it's something wrong with proximity and light sensor? Any suggestions?
I had this problem as well until my proximity and light sensor completely stopped working. The sensor is not detected anymore but the issue stopped after.
I don't know about the cause but it could be because of proximity and light sensor.

Thanks for the reply. I am suspecting proximity and light sensor also. I am thinking to order a new one, it's like 9$.

By the way, I feel it is better without proximity and light sensor. Many problems were fixed after it was obsolete.

S9 Plus AOD when picking up the phone

I don't think so but if you cover the proximity sensor for around 15 seconds or so it turns off the display until it's not covered. I got into the habit of facing it face down to trigger it or covering the top part of the display with something

Don't think it can be done so yet. Something like double tap on the screen to wake would have been better than AOD all the time sucking battery.
I found a thing and I am currently trying it out. In the AOD settings you can adjust the brightness yourself (rather than leaving it on auto-brightness).
It has 4 levels. I have set it to level 2 (level 1 was almost not visible during day light).
Up to now I see much lower battery consumption from AOD. Will keep testing and report.

There are tilt to wake apps in the play store.... I could not get them to work right....
I did find one super cool option to help me solve this issue. Its buried deep in accessibility settings. Its the "interaction and dexterity option." It will allow you to wake the screen by waving your hand over it. Yes, this is deeply buried but one of the most useful features of the phone.
Sure, this is not what you are asking but I thought I would throw it out there so you have an option.

Yes, sorry I meant to say to wake the phone when you pick it up. But to take it a step further it would be nice to have an option to just open AOD when you pick the phone up.

This indeed works gr8. I don't need to look at the screen all the time just to see what's there at the cost of battery.
