Very interested in buying this device at best buy today need help tho - Sprint LG G3

Is the sprint version 32gb also did LG fix the lag and over heating issue it had when it was released? How is the reception strength, is it great like Motorola phones are... Had The LG Volt and it was horrible... I live in East Windsor,NJ if that helps...

Sprint version is 32 GB. I've had no over heating problems, and that doesn't seem to be a common complaint any more. Reception seems fine to me. It may show slightly lower bars than my Samsung did, but I have no issues with voice or data connections even at work, where we get a really weak signal on all carriers..
There's a new update (ZV6) for Sprint that's supposed to be rolling out beginning on Monday that claims to address much of the lag. But even with the current ROM version, you can pretty much eliminate the lag by using an alternate launcher (like Nova) and an alternate keyboard.

Hijacking thread with a more specific question
Hello I had a Sprint Galaxy S2 and it was amazing, but Sprint sucked here. I sold it and bought the Nexus 4 on ATT Go, and that was fine. Then I got the Nexus 5 and I lost it! ( for shame), but now my wife wants me back on the family plan and a Nexus 6 isn't really in the budget, and I don't think I want to burn an upgrade on a Nexus 5. So I'm looking at either the Galaxy S4, S5, or LG G3. Back to my Epic Touch, ZOMG it was freaking nerdgasm amazing, I had Gingerbread early, I had ICS early, I got the Galaxy note features, before the Galaxy S3 tools did, most fun I ever had. So how is the G3 here, anyone jumping ship to the Nex 6? Galaxy s5? Anyone come from a Galaxy S4 and disappointed. Is Lollipop ever gonna happen? I guess what I'm saying is I am eying the G3 cause of the high res screen, but I got Lollipop on my Nexus 5 and I really like it. Nexus 6 is not in the budget cause its time to put the Nexus 7 out to pasture, and I will get a 9, you hear me woman!?! :silly: (that was directed at the mrs.) So if you were upgrading for free today G3? S5? S4? which one would be the most fun you think?

What i would do in your situation is take a look at the forums and see what they have to offer in the way of roms, themes, ect.. Those phones are all great so you cant go wrong. If it were me i would not get the s4 just because its older and lower resale value, with that said i had an s4 and loved it.

I bought my G3 on Amazon for a penny. So far no issues that I haven't brought onto myself by testing the ROMs that are currently available. The phone is awesome!

Couldn't agree more. I went ahead and bought the steel blue at Best Buy and am quite pleased with my purchase. Best $1 I've ever spent on a phone. I have been using just stock rooted ZV4 and am pretty pleased with it. Can't wait for a flashable stock lollipop rom, hopefully that leaked doc floating around is legit...:fingers-crossed:

[Q] Galaxy Nexus To The Note?

I've gone from the Dell Streak -> Galaxy Nexus and am now considering going back to a 5"+ screen.
Does anyone have any insight regarding this change? I really love ICS, which is why I'm hesitant to switch, but I miss all that extra screen real estate! Perhaps I'm better served waiting a few more months until devs get their hands on an official Note build of ICS. Thanks for any help you guys can give.
I have both! Ics is way better than gingerbread. But the note is a phenomenal device! There's no other device like it! Ics is supposed to be release for the note but I don't know when exactly.

You'll hate it. It's terrible going back to GB after having had ICS. The hardware is fantastic, but they really need to get ICS out.

Basically the same situation I'm in. I had a Nexus S with factory ICS.
I'm basically giving them to the end of March to get ICS out (Not from ATT, I realize that won't happen, but a leak from Samsung or CM9 or something). If they don't, I'll probably trade/sell for a Galaxy Nexus, even though I like the Note's hardware more.

There's literally no aspect of the OS I can think of that wasn't drastically improved in ICS. Literally everything is better. One great example is the absolutely insane way they want you to mount as SD card in GB.
Unplug cable, go to menu > Wireless and networks > USB settings, press connect, plug cable in, Press connect again.
Seriously?
I miss my AOKP on my galaxy nexus I had on verizon, but with the deal I got I couldn't pass up the note. (they accidentally put me on a dumbphone ETF with Verizon and AT&T gave me all 3 of my family plan phones for %50, so the note was only $150) However much I enjoy my note, I miss ICS and the fluidity AOKP brought that android version. I cant wait for a CM9/AOKP/AXIOM/anything ICS Rom.
One of the reasons I like the Nexus is because I can use my T-mobile or my Red Pocket sim. I have the $30 plan with T-mobile and $60 Red Pocket plan...I love my Note..Wish I could have both..

Disagree completely. I just traded my Galaxy Nexus for a Note and couldn't be happier. ICS is great, but still has plenty of kinks to work out. Add to that lots of software needs to be updated and GB on the Note isn't so bad.

I too came from a device where I was running ICS and have absolutely zero complaints/difficulty reverting back to GB because the trade off is a much better device.
In the end, we're really debating a subjective issue so there's no true right or wrong, but one thing's for sure: If you're going from ICS back to GB, the device itself had better make up the difference in terms of user experience, and the Note's clearly got the goods to bridge this gap. Also, it's only a matter of time before the devs cook up some ICS ROMs that make this discussion moot anyway.

The biggest matter is not the software on this phone, but the physical attributes. After over a week with note, I just cannot get used to the size. Sure, the screen is beautifully massive and makes the Galaxy Nexus look like an iPhone but the Note is just uncomfortable for one handed use (im 6'1" and I CAN use it one handed no problem, its just uncomfortable). My main factors for going back to the Galaxy Nexus were getting my unlimited 4g LTE data plan back (for the fiance too) comfort-ability, and better reception (I literally live across the street from a Verizon tower getting 15-32mpbs download where as the Note on AT&T 4G LTE im at the very edge getting 2mpbs down on a tiered 3GB plan). Ill still certainly be jealous when ICS ROMs come out for the note, but for now ill just stick with AOKP and a spare battery with charger lol.

I hear that, and I said somewhere else on this forum that I love the Note "in spite" of its awkwardness and the funny looks/snide comments I get regarding its size, similar to what an owner of a Great Dane probably deals with each time he/she takes it for a walk down the street. lol
For me, it's just that the functionality of the device is so over the top awesome (based on my prior Android experience) that even the clear unweildiness of the device (is that a word!?!) can't scare me away.
But again, to each their own.
I just left the AT&T store with my new Note. I had the Nexus on Verizon. I love ICS, but the note is a really nice device, and I'm enjoying the speed increase on HSPA+ compared to Verizon 3B.C.
I plan on buying a GSM Nexus to have as a backup to my Note.

I come from a Galaxy Nexus and there's 2 major things that I miss :
1. The beautiful number of PPI on the Nexus screen.
2. The notificatiin light.
I also miss ics/AOKP but I'm not in a hurry to root the Note.

Seems like "Pure Android" is no longer the priority?
I'm exchanging my gnex for a gs3 at best buy. The 21st will actually be my 29th day of their 30 day exchange policy, I got lucky.lol I do like the gnex, but it only having internal memory kind of sucks, plus I feel the gs3 is a step up from gnex with the exception of it being supported directly by google. I'm getting the 16gb pb plus a 64gb memory card... can't wait to toy with this device it looks sick with the new TW. I don't think I'll miss the AOSP interface so much.

Im giving my gnex to my mom who was going to buy her first Android device next week. I have already pre ordered a 16gb pebble blue model and my 64gb san disk just arrived today from Amazon.
I seriously can't wait for the sgs3 to drop. I actually miss TW. Coming from a fascinate, charge and captivate i kinda got used to it. If team gummy can get there hands on a couple devices it's a huge plus. They made my Droid charge 10X better.

Yea I miss the little features with TW, like swipe to call or message. I read somewhere that the creator of CM worked with Samsung to design the new TW. Im pysched to mess with the tap features as well as the physical interaction of the phone with TW, like face down to silence call, tap to top, swipe for screen capture, and whatever else is new with it.
Edit: Im coming from an og Epic.... that's why I'm used to TW

How is the radio vs the VZW Galaxy S3?

Hi,
I am debating on upgrading from the S3 on Verizon. I am thinking about either the Note 3 or the G2. Any thoughts from former Galaxy S3 users?
Thanks,
Rich
Although I can't say much about the radio on the Note 3, the G2's radio is perfectly usable. It works as intended, and I haven't run into any issues on the standard ROM so far.
verizon g2 radio is very good imo. its better then my note 2 :good:
Note 3 is nice if u plan on using a stylus go for it but i never used mine on my note 2 and am glad to be back to one handed operation again and still have a big battery and large display.
I compared these today in the store. This was the result
G2 - 93db
S3 - 98db
S4 - 98db
HTC One - 93db
Moto X - 96db
This was inside a mall holding all in the same spot and waiting for a few seconds to ensure it was stable.
Not super scientific, but close enough.

Thanks, I played with it in the store for a moment but my 3 year old had other plans on occupying my time at the store. It felt much zippier than my S3. The fact that you can root it is also great but it doesnt look like there is much development on it. Though the Note 3 looks pretty empty too.
I am running CM10 on my S3 & it just doesnt feel as fast as it used to. Maybe I am just interested in another phone though.

My last phone was the S3. I live in the back of an apartment building well-shielding (unfortunately) from cell service. My SGS3 would drop calls ALL THE TIME. It was super frustrating.
Anyway, haven't had a single drop since I got the G2... I love the fact that it works as a PHONE when I need it to.
I still havent pulled the trigger on the G2 but am thinking of doing so. I am wondering if it is a decent boost in speed vs the S3. I pretty much go straight to the CM10 roms & it looks like the G2 is supported now.
Any feedback or comments?
Coming from an S3 (Verizon), side-by-side on CM the G2 definitely has more horsepower. I notice it most when loading and switching between apps. The signal strength is way better on the G2. could hardly ever make a call from in my basement apartment on the S3. No problem making calls with this. I also see near double the battery life. Seriously. That, and the display is great, albeit the viewing angles aren't quite as good. The Note is just a hair to big for me to use comfortably, but this feels just right. I have no regrets. Currently running OSE rom. Waiting on a stable 4.4

Cellphone ownership and you...

I have now owned the G2 for only 2 weeks and it has been out for nearly 7 months. I have never been more excited about a phone since owning a Note 2...
I have owned 5 devices (Note 2, Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Moto G, Optimus G, Galaxy Nexus - in no particular order.) in the past year and none of them have ever gave me the wow factor that the G2 has given. I believe I will own the G2 until it be breaks...
With this year's release of new flagship devices, do you find yourself wanting to upgrade?
The point of this thread is to ask you guys, "do you always upgrade to the next best thing, or do you use your device til it breaks.?"
This is the first time I have felt that a device will suffice for the next few years...
Discuss...

I really haven't been this amazed by a phone that's for sure...Just like you I have owed many phones this one has impressed me in every category.I believe I will keep or try to at least for 2 years.
Sent from my LG-D800 using Tapatalk
I usually keep my smartphone for at least 2 years because that's the time you're usually bound to your carriers contract over here in germany, after that you can get discounts on new phones if you prolong your contract
I wouldn't exactly say i'm a smartphone nerd although i like to play with custom roms and stuff but i was really excited to get the G2.
I had the old galaxy S Plus before the G2 and of course that's a huge difference. But the only thing i really needed the G2 for was the better camera and gaming performance, for everything else the S Plus with CM 10.2 was good enough for me and my wife is still using it.
I guess i'll keep the G2 for at least 2 years because i can hardly find anything i don't like about it except no sd slot and no changeable battery but i don't really need that since i got the 32 GB version and the battery life is good (if you don't play game a lot that is).
Looking forward to the G3, should qualify for a Jump upgrade by the time T-Mobile gets it
Sent from my LG-D801 using Tapatalk
Sounds like most of you guys are pretty satisfied with the G2.
?
Sent from the LG G2
I'm satisfied with G2 too. Maybe the 1st device I didn't try to root & install custom rom the moment I bought it. I used to be attached to Samsung phones so G2 is the 1st break for me. Well, I'm glad I made the break!
About not changing the phone, well that depends on how LG rolls out updates in future. I might just get fed up & change to other brand if support for update is scarce like now.
Sent from my LG-D802
Tbh the G2 is still the best phone on the market, including the HTC M8 and SGS5. There really is no reason to change unless you simply want to. Nothing that has come out this year is worth any out of pocket expense. Perhaps when the Note 4 is released this fall, then maybe.. if you like Samsung. Even then, I think we have reached a temporary lull in smartphones where anything new is a very, very slight improvement. I wouldn't switch until something blows me away, and nothing so far has.
As crazy as this may sound to some I honestly dont know how anyone can
A) have only one device at a time
B) hang onto to it without at least upgrading to something else after some time.
I bought 5 devices in 2013 all of them outright...still have 3 of them (G2, Note 3, S4)..and so far this year these have my attention:
G3
G flex (if it had sd card support id have it already)
G pro 2
Z2
and thats so far and its not even april yet lol..probably end up with 3 or more new ones this year even though I had wanted to slow down a bit...but whats a guy to do lol?

I hope so because I am not sure my wallet could take me buying the M8 but temptation always get the better of me >.<
Just got a G2 today. Since I immediately installed SlimKat on it, it's pretty much identical to the Nexus 4 its replacing but with a bigger screen and better camera. Progress marches on. Before that I had a One X running AOKP and before that a Motorola Atrix running CM10. As Android gets better, the hardware it's running on seems to matter less and less with each new phone for me... The G2 is nice though. Battery life and the contrastier LCD really swung it for me vs. the Nexus 5. The only thing I don't like is that it looks sorta Samsung-ish... And I have an irrational hatred of Samsung.

I got the G2 a few weeks ago because I dropped my S4 and the screen shattered. I used my son's upgrade, so I can still get the G3 in a few months I'll give him the G2 when it does.
Neither S5 nor M8 is attractive enough for me to upgrade from my G2. The only regret I have, since I just bought it 3 weeks ago is how I missed the buzz of One Plus One. Had I known it earlier, I might will wait for its release before buying this monster. LG did well with this phone and I wonder why the demand for G2 is quite low. It's a well rounded device and cost me less than an S4 here in my country (we don't have carrier contracts here and purchase the phone outright).

Galaxy S5 is the best smartphone ever!

Let me say this first, I have used the iPhone 3GS, 4, before I hopped on the Android bandwagon. I have been very happy using samsung phones since then (S II, HTC One X, S III, HTC One), but the S4 and the Note 3 made me want to switch back to the iPhone because of it's unbearable lag. So when the S5 was announced, I had already made up my mind about going back to the Apple ecosystem. Then I tried my wife's Galaxy S5 and let me tell you, this is THE smoothest Android phone I have ever used (not including nexus of course, because I imagine it to run smooth because it runs stock android). The new touch wiz skin on this phone is SEXY. I'm glad I didn't jump the ship so soon!!!

Lol the s4 had lag, i know cause i had it, but the note 3 has ZERO lag on stock out of the box and I've read on the 4 major carriers the there is still lag on the s5 out of the box. Interesting assessment on your part.

Both device have lag bumps here and there out of the box lol
Some carriers worse then others , It really comes down to bloat.
My Bro picked up GN3 last week its a great device but my GS5 shows slightly smoother performance....at least in are side by side testing.
Could it be snap801 adding the edge hmm maybe. we can rule out ram being the reason lol
Also,
Radio is stronger in GS5

the sd 801 is basically an overclocked 800. Every other device the 801 is clocked at 2.3ghz same as all the 800's. And you then must be the rare bird because everyone has said the note 3 was the first Galaxy phone with TW that launched with no lag. And you do hear a lot of people complaining about lag on the S5. I mean if it's working for you then great, it's just about everyone else sees it the opposite way.

Oh my a rar bird lol
All new device release get lag complaints my friend.
I mean come on love your Note3 but don't be blind - https://www.google.com/search?q=Gal...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
Both device are grade A equal in my book....hmm Well GS5 has better radio & less wake lag , other then that pretty equal.
Also adding:
I'm a big Note fan!
I got hooked on GN2 loved it to death finding GN3 not to be worthy upgrade for a couple reasons.....one of them being build quality so I took the chance on LG G2.
LG G2 was....was at top of the mountain before 4.4 kitkat update.
After update battery life & performance took a dump so it was time for new device
GN3 or GS5.
I choose GS5 because of water resistance lol
When GN4 becomes available I will own one

I'm not talking kk I'm talking original release 4.3 since kk isn't really worth the update. But each has there lag? Didn't you say the s5 was lag free?

Buddy I was a hardcore Note 2 owner that backed away from GN3 upgrade due to build quality,,,,that darn loose home button scared me away lol
Anyway while GN2 user I came across many lag postings in GN3 land during its release, Its the norm for all devices.
No never said GS5 is lag free , This is what I said,

my bad it was the other guy who mentioned s5 was lag free or hinted that way. About the home button, I think that was the initial stock, because I know 7 people with note 3 and all of us have no button issues. Buttons are rock solid, no wiggle at all. Haven't heard the button issues since launch. To bad you skipped the note3, it's the best phone I've ever owned and the best I've ever used. I've played around with the LG g2, htc one, s3, note 2, LG g flex plus the ones I've owned.
To see Lag on note 3 & S4:
1. Open Phone app:
2. Press the top right contacts buttons
3. Press the top left keypad button
4. swtich back and fourth. you will see the lag.
Compare the same on a GS5. Smooth as butter.
Yes the best
LOVE MY S5:good::good::good::good::good:
I'm actually selling mine after owning for only 3 days (rooted, SIM unlocked, and bootloader switched to TWRP).
Why? On alliancerom, I have had to do so much work to get it close to the CM experience I had on the S2, S3, and S4. Nothing can come close For example, I need a fast camera...and although the stock rom camera is fast, in the custom roms I tried, the camera in my experience was slow (tried 4 different cameras).
The S4 is actually quite respectable compared to the S5, especially if running CM or other rom.
Don't get me wrong about TouchWiz, on my Note 10.1 2014, I updated to latest KitKat update, which is Touchwiz, however in phone implementation, there just isn't enough customization. Yes I tried GravityBox, Xposed, and the lot, but it just wasn't the same.
Maybe I'll be back for the S5 Prime if it comes out...but my next might end up being the Asus PadFone X...we will see!

phone's been out for only a couple weeks...obviously all the major ROMs are yet to be released..not sure how you made your decision on a phone based on some preliminary ROMS

Issue being people are basing their previous androids experience on how quick roms came etcc.. Times have changed, there's more security added which we all know by know. Year by year manufacturers and carriers will make it harder to root

Im going to have to say that Samsung is the reason behind the bad and slow complicated development on the Galaxy S devices. If you take a loot at the HTC One development threads there plenty going on over there. Everything from plenty of custom roms to GPE roms to CM.
I just traded my HTC One M8 today for the Galaxy S5 due to me being disappointed in the camera on the HTC One M8.
Performance wise, I get hicups and lag every now and then when swping home screens and backing out of apps ecetra. With me having 2 kids and I take pictures allot so switching to the S5 was a plus on my end.
After being on S4 - M7 - Note 2 and Note 3, the S5 seems to have more lag then other devices.
If you want a "Smooth" "Lag Free" android experience then I recommend the HTC One M8. That phone had almost 0 lag at all. Samsung Touchwiz seems to always lag down for some reason.

The Phone app on the S4 & the contacts app are two separate apps. The Contact button is a hyperlink between the two. If you'll notice, the buttons change at the top also, except for the one which brings back the actual phone keypad. If you go looking through the complete app list in something like TiBu, you'll find both of them. One is like Phone.apk and the other is Dialer.apk or something.
On the S5, the two are one and the same. This way the S5 doesn't have to call a new app into memory just to access the contacts.
That all being aside, I have to say that this version of TW is probably the best looking TW I have ever seen. I love the flat color and the simple flat UI design. Apple started it, but Samsung definitely outdid themselves this time around. I think the only thing I'll be doing this go-round is rooting the phone.. although T-Mobile doesn't like giving out OTAs to rooted devices... might need a way around that in the future. Everything else is great.
