[Q] Rooting Huawei G-510-200, Almost Total Beginner - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This is my first post, so be patient please. (Not normally a poster, just a lurker)
Alright, so I have had an Australian (I live in Australia) $129 Optus Huawei G-510-200 phone for almost a year now, and I tried rooting about 6 or so months ago. And Failed.
It didn't do anything bad, didn't brick, but did wipe my SD card. I just pasted the files back on and I was good, but a little scared. At the time I had lookout security installed, but I have since removed it. Now that my warranty is well and truly over, I thought it would be a good idea to try again at root.
Apparantly new users cannot post links, so I will just have to provide a Google search query instead... (Results should be at the top)
There seems to be 3 ways to do it.
1: Cydia Impactor
2: The one I tried last time that has no name but uses batch files and wizardry. Search: "how to root huawei ascend g510-200 theunlockr"
3: Kingo-Root Search: "Easy method how to Root Huawei G510 and G300" on YouTube (Again, should be at the top)
Sorry for the sniffling, this one might work, but no unrooting procedure was shown.
Now, some people say you have to unlock the bootloader, but others don't mention it at all... (For both methods)
And will either of these root methods wipe either or both storage's (SD or Internal)?
Also, one of my games (one I paid money for) says some users had trouble using it with a rooted phone, if I wish to play the game again, is there an un-root procedure?
Cydia Impactor or Kingo root seems easier and simpler.
Moderators: If I posted in the wrong place can you move me please?
And yes, I have done a decent amount of googlingering...
Oh, and can I install apps as per normal from the play store after root?
Extra info:
Underneath the battery (in the tray) is has the following:
MAC:509F278467FD
S/N:U6V7NC93A2601810
(Then a barcode)
IMEI:868496019652230
(Then another barcode)
Thanks!, I look forward to a reply and a Non-Bricked Device!

Q: difficulties with finding T-Mobile p769 malware free unlocking & rooting method
Hi,
I am a total newbie when it comes to rooting stuff (I did root my nexus 7 2012 without using a toolkit so I have some slight experience, but this phone seems to be much more difficult).
However, I have seriously spent many hours searching and reading many different unlocking bootloader & root guides for the 769, and I cannot seem to find a method that will work and is safe.
With the guide that I have read the most (i. e. [GUIDE] Root L9 ICS/Jelly Bean with New Lelus method and Offline Flash (1st and 2nd post) ), there is a serious malware problem.
I don't have a pop-up blocker enabled & I have never seen this type of malware threat message before where chrome will not allow me to download these files (message displayed is like " chrome is preventing you from downloading these malicious files) RootJB_and_Flash_Guide_byCMahendra_AngryWolf80(31-Mar).zip], so it freaks me out a bit.
Anyway I'm sorry if I missed something but I have never seen this type of message, so if anyone can help me on the best method for unlocking and rooting that would be awesome!
Thanks.
I can help but I need q favor

Hey so I just tested the download and you're right, Chrome does block it (although you can get around it)... But back when I had my L9, I downloaded it with firefox and checked it with malwarebytes and it was fine. It's not malicious, or wasn't when I used it. However, most apps that hack devices (rooting apps, modified dlls on computer applications, etc) show as malicious when they're not, it's just the nature by which it's designed. I would recommend allowing the download, to an external flash stick or sd card then scanning it with AV. If you're still uncomfortable with it, use a different method. But, I will say from my experience, it worked for me just fine when I still had my L9.
And yes, this phone is way more complicated to root, unlock, etc. I traded mine in plus some cash for an S3. Couldn't be happier, but when I had my L9, I went through everything on this forum. It was a PITA, but I will say I liked this community- they've worked together and worked hard on these processes to help each other out along with other owners of the L9. I feel they and the methods they put forth are genuine.

I had the same problem. I tried to download the lelus root method and chrome blocked it. I ended up downloading it on my tablet using opera classic browser, then transferred it to my pc and antivirus said that there was a trojan horse in one of the dll's. I'm sure this method is fine to root your device with, as absinthesummer said a lot of modified dll's and rooting apps will show as malicious software. I ended up not using this method though.
I downloaded vroot and then everyone was saying that it steals you personal information. So i didn't use this method either.
The only other one that I didn't hear anything bad about was cydia impactor. Downloaded it without any problems and rooted my ms769 in seconds without any hiccups.
Thanks for the replies absinthesummer & xdrc45. I'm glad it wasn't just me having the problem with the lelus root method, and while I agree with files and rooting apps being recognized as malware, this kind of weirded me out. Oh and @ xdrc45, thanks for the tip about using cydia impactor, I'm definitely going that route.

[Q] T-Mobile P76920h Bootloader/Root maze help

There are at least 5 different bootloader/root methods and topics on the first page of "Optimus L9 P760, P765, P768, P769 General"...it's a "maze" of methods.
I have some experience with rooting...I rooted my old G2x and played with several different ROMs, but I am definitely still a noob at this game. This maze of methods makes me want to run away from my son's P769, but I can't because he is out of memory space and insisting that I do something about it. I have read several threads only to learn (a couple of pages into it) that it doesn't apply to ver. 20h or that the programs to be used are deemed "suspicious".
All I want to do is give the kid more space through the use of a larger sd card (class 10). I understand that I need to root and then either keep the stock ROM and use an app like Link2sd (which is all the kid really needs because he will not take advantage of a custom ROM) or I can run a custom ROM that takes proper advantage of the sd card in the first place.
Sorry, but I need to quit reading threads that lead to nowhere or confusion and just ask: Will anybody help me make a decision as to what method to go with? I'm not concerned about it being super-simple, I just want to be sure that it works for the kid's phone (ver. 20h) and that it's safe (in terms of malware). A little clarification on the bootloader/root thing would help too: I have to unlock the bootloader first, then root? or is it the other way around? or are they done at the same time?
OK there's two ways to look at root, it is either done at the same time as flashing a new ROM(because the ROM's come with root access) or you can root it with the Chinese program on stock ROM. If you want a custom ROM it's doable but a total pain, I still haven't done it to mine because it requires a data plan and I don't have one. Its kinda like this, downgrade the os with a kmz meant for a p760, have weird mirrored issues with bootloader and os and touches, flash radio fix , wait 30 min to an hour with data and WiFi connected, pray you received an unlock token and reboot to unlocking screen. That's the process in a nutshell, here's an actual tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2584997

OK...forget the custom ROM...he's just a kid that wants more stupid games and videos on his phone...all he needs is more space. So what you're saying is to use the "Chinese program" to root it. OK...I will find the "Chinese program", but I'll ask first: does it work on ALL versions (particularly v. 20h).
Thanks for taking your time...it's appreciated.
It should work on that version, it did on mine and I have the same version, here's a link to it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2553547

K...but isn't that the VRoot prog with all the suspicion surrounding it? Some of the threads I have read about this prog are actually closed by the moderators "until further notice" or until it's fully investigated...do we have an "all clear" on this?

There's no issue with that program. People don't read directions 99% of the time, can't get it to work so they report it as being faulty. I used the same app to root my P769V20H. Only difference now is there is actually an English version, so I've heard.
You may have to enable init.d support on the stock ROM before using something like Link2SD. I currently am not having any storage issues, 32 GB sdcard, so I cannot say if Link2SD will work or not. I did notice that there was NOT an init.d folder in my system image, which is required of Link2SD in order to work correctly. You may want to look in to this thread for enabling init.d support.
I'd also advise downloading and installing the bootstrap recovery for L9 devices with a locked bootloader. It's called L9_Recovery_Installer.1.5.0.apk. Search the L9 forums for a download link. After installing, boot in to CWM and perform a backup. This will give you something to restore to just in case something goes wonky in the future.
I ended up installing and using Cydia Impactor for root, installing the bootstrap recovery that was suggested, installing and using Universal Init.d, MiniTool Partition, and Link2SD. Seems to work fine, although I'm still having a hard time grasping why the extra space provided by the new Ext2 partition on the SDcard isn't displayed in System Settings/Storage/Internal Storage.
Thanks to all

It's because most stock ROMs aren't configured to search for extended partitions. You can view all partition infos with Link2SD.

HKC P771A Successful Root

First i cannot figure out how to get this into the Tablets section
2nd, this device doesn't show in any phone/tablet section
Anywho, i did find a few threads on this guy here, so wanted to help direct those that are trying what i was and am. I want to put a better ROM on this device as it is way to slow with the 4.0.4 ICS it came with. It is very bloatware free which isn't surprising as it is a walmart brand and not a Veri$on or AT$T device. I do recall from previous flashes Rooting being step one of any upgrade, so i looked for a specific method for this device. Towelroot failed to find the needed exploit, as did every version of framaroot 1.4 through 1.9.x
The next rooter i tried was KingoRoot
simply downloaded the PC app (i'm on a Win7 x64 desktop) from their website kingoapp Think i got routed to software informer (yea annoying i know)
Installed app
It DL'd a driver it liked better (think it called it a samsung driver, who cares it worked)
Then offered to root the device
Clicked root
Program connected ten ran through dozens of what looked like attempts. Eventually seemed to hang on one at like 87% (which means something is actually happening with this tablet that's a good thing as it's single core processor hangs when you do anything)
Eventually after that (and possibly offering to close the app on the tablet screen or WAIT which i selected wait) it said installing root
then began rooting
PC app reported it was successfully rooted
DL'd RootChecker from the google play store
installed it
once giving rootchecker superuser permission, it confirmed root.
So, now where does a guy find ROMs for tablets, obviously it is a very basic android device, it isn't a phone so it doesn't need a pretty Cyanogen Mod, just something not ICS i'm thinking as this device hangs way to much to be functional. i THINK the spec are 16GB storage and 1 GB ram. Can't seem to find a central place to find tablet ROMs or even a repository of posts specifically for this device, As it is a WALMAR$T branded item, it has to be in heavy circulation, though perhaps not in the modding community??
Feel free to move this post where ever it belongs and comment if anyone has insight or suggestions

Lenovo A916 - New owners read this!

Hi all, when I bought the Lenovo A916 phone from www.lightinthebox.com it came with spyware included in the Stock Rom(which had been modified by 3rd party), impossible to get rid of unless you root the phone, because its located in system files.
Beware, if you do a factory reset the spyware will be back! Also, do NOT use your phone for banking or anything else with passwords, before you have removed the spyware since it contains a keylogger!
You can flash it with new Rom(also known as Firmware) or a clean Stock(original) Rom - that will remove the spyware. You have to be rooted for this to work.
Right now my phone has A916_S1205_141013 rom - below there is a link to this Rom - its multilingual - I have not yet had the time to try it myself and don't know if its clean.
http://firmwarefile.com/lenovo-a916
I have removed all the spyware, after I rooted my phone, and its working as it should - But as I said earlier, the spyware will return if I do factory reset.
If you bought this phone on the net like most of us, then I suggest that you install the following and scan for spyware. Take note, that the spyware is not from Lenovo!
Avast, Avira, ESET, 360 security, Malwarebytes - use all of them, since there are always something one don't find but the other one will.
Be aware that something can go wrong, and I'm not responsible for you trying this out.
The best way to root is Kingo root. But first, attach your phone to your PC/laptop(make its connected to the internet) and on the phone choose MTP, now the phone will install drivere for its first use - this is important!
Then you click the icon in the notification area in windows, to dissconnect usb devices and dissconnect your phone. Wait a few min, - then re-connect and this time (on he phone) choose the last option which say something like "Virtual CD". If autorun is enabled on your pc, you will then get an option to browse this virtual CD - do so!
Copy the content of the virtual CD to a new folder on your pc, then run and install LenovoUsbDriver_autorun_1.0.12.exe - this is important. Don't bother with the other things there since its in chinese.
Then get Kingo root from here:
http://www.kingoapp.com/android-root.htm
Click to download it from CNET, be aware that it might get caught by your antivirus - not that it contains virus, but because its used to root phones. If it got to you pc safely, then run it and it will download the real rooting software - make sure to say NO/Decline/uncheck to any offer that comes up(like install Yahoo). Stupid and annoying way CNET try to impose their stuff onto people.
Now, the real software has been downloaded(android_root.exe) - run it and follow the guide. There are also a guide on Kingo root's webpage.
After you have rooted your phone, run the antivirus Apps again, this time you will be able to remove some but not all of the spyware. Make a list of those you can't remove - then go to the superuser app you can remove the software that contains spyware and cannot be cleaned otherwise. Be careful what you remove.
I found spyware in these and removed with the supeuser app
Trojan.Agent.mq in /system/app/CallerID.apk
PUP.Adware.ShinyMob.a in /mnt/sdcard/funweather.apk
Backdoor.Ginmaster in /system/app/Weatherservice_K517_u002_20140910.apk
Trojan.Fadeb.a in /system/app/Twitter_qd_3025.apk
Do NOT remove the ThemeCenter app!! Its used its used by the system to set wallpaper. If it has spyware then you can remove it and replace it with the one in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63651753&postcount=42
Good luck!
JBJ
Moderator, please don't remove any of this - Its super important!
If someone has suggestion or tips to this thread then please PM me an I can insert it with credit in the 1st post!
I don't have any direct experience with this device, being in the USA, but this seems like it might work http://www.needrom.com/download/lenovo-a916-multilang-root-gapps/ .

Rooting the new Huawei GR3

After a frustrating and 'Wheel of Death' week, caused by the horrible Samsung Note 3 (my first and last SAMSUNG ever - can't really understand the hipe) I felt suddenly bought the relatively new Huawei GR 3. Several websites praise it as one of top medium smartphones.
I needed to root the Huawei, since all my apps + sys settings were with a Titanium Backup.
With the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, I used the super easy 'Towelroot app', but with the GR3 Towelroot didn't work .
I found the 'old' way with USB cable, a PC (switched to mac 10 years ago)and Olin etc. - too complicated.
Back to google and found this website with KingRoot to be found at cyberspaceandtime(dot)com
using
the new KingRoot App, I assume similar Towelroot
Then super easy, enable 'Install from unknown sources' in your settings, download the KingRoot..apk file to your Huawei, install and your phone is rooted.
To prove that your phone is rooted, you DL the 'SuperUser SU' app from Google Play and get the confirmation that your phone has root access. No cables, and done in less than 30min.
And by the way, I tried first to restore my apps and system settings with Titanium free version but after 5min non stop 'Ok' pressing, I organized the PRO version, which is with $6.02 not cheap, but worth every penny.
If you are short on cash, then you can download the Lucky Patcher for the Titanium to become the Pro version . Very important to update the general patch and the Titanium specific patch before you try to crack the app.
(to be found on NetBew(dot)com
Cheers from the Blackduck :highfive:
This is the Huawei WATCH forum, you need to find a forum for your phone!
There isn't any forum for this phone
Is this support GR 3 model number PAR-LA1
