Netflix and Chromecast - Kindle Fire HDX 7" & 8.9" Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hello all,
On my Kindlefire HDX 8.9 I cannot use my chromecast. Other apps can (pandora, youtube, etc) but the option for casting never appears inside of netflix. Any idea why? I am rooted with good play services installed. Its just Netflix I am having problems with

You have to download an app. Such as Playon or media share or one of those sharing apps. I use Playon. But there are others.

That's weird. I have previous generation 8.9 HDX. I've never had issues with Chromecast and Netflix. I do have all of the Google goodies installed (frame work, etc).. Let us know if you get it solved by downloading the mentioned app..

You may wnat to try to install the Playstore apk rather than the Amazon store APK.
Test it out and let us know how it goes.:fingers-crossed:

I'm also having same problem.

[Q] Hulu, Netflix on Honeycomb

Hello All,
Has anyone gotten Hulu to work on Honeycomb? If so, which modded version of Flash did you use? What browser and settings?
I am currenly using Flashback ROM Alpha 5.5 (Android 3.0.1).
Does anyone have information on when Netflix will be available for
Honeycomb?
Thanks,
Paul
I have not tried it yet but netflix updated today to support a tegra 2 hc Lenovo tablet.
try it and let us know.
Do you know where I can find the app (.apk) to try this? It's not in the Market yet.

no sorry I do not
I installed the Modified Netflix app where the device check is disabled.
I am able to see Available movies, My Queue etc properly.
When I try to watch a video, I receive the following error:
Sorry we could not reach the Netflix service. Please try again later. If the problem persists please visit Netflix.com (1005).
How about Crackle? I have the app on my G Tablet and it keeps saying it has been disconnected. What do I do?
Newest netflix update works on honeycomb gtab now
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Great!! Where can I download it? Not available on Android Market. Unable to download (due to device type) on market.android.com.
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/07/20/download-netflix-version-1-3-works-on-honeycomb-tablets/]
Edit: I can not confirm if this works, as the app says overloaded and will not fully load on my gtab running GtabComb b3.2
Edit 2: It works! The video quality isn't the greatest but it works. woot

Crackle works on my CM7. But no go on Flashback or Gtabcomb. With the Flash from the market on the HC ROMs, I get only audio and with the hacked flash the app starts to play the video and then backs out, just like it did initially when the Netflix app came out.
I will try the .apk and let you know what I find out...thx
I am running gtabcom 3.2, puffin browser, and flash 10.3 from the market. It works great on hulu, not sure on nextflick.
Netflix Works on Flashback Honeycomb ROM Alpha 5.5!!
The video is a little blocky when watching the first 10 - 15 seconds. After the video caches a little, video quality is quite acceptable.
Here is the link to the .apk: http://www.multiupload.com/XTEWL8CLCZ
Awesome!!!
Can't get hulu videos to go full screen, but at least its working. Thanks for the info.
Gtabcomb 3.3 runs the market netflix app perfectly.
Sent from my GtabComb using XDA Premium App
if you do a search in the forum I think someone posted the netflix apk.
Hulu and Netflix
Don't have any experience with Netflix, but Puffin browser with Flash from the market will play Hulu videos. But Hulu videos are choppy for me. My 2cents worth.
It works!
I confirmed this app works on vtab GE edition. Thanks a bunch for the link from droidlife!

[Q] ePSXe no sound Fire HDX 7"

Hello,
First time xda member but certainly not unfamiliar with everyone's great work here on the forums!
Just wanted to know if anyone's having problems getting sound outta the ePSXe emulator on their Fire HDX if they've sideloaded it?
My HDX is rooted and I sidedloaded the emulator after getting it from other sources but for some reason can't get sound. Tried playing around with settings in the app and installed numerous versions of up till 1.9.5 for the app but still the same, video works perfectly just no sound.
Can't backup the ePSXe app I bought from the play store a while back on my phone to an apk to use for my tablet because the phones not rooted unfortunately and there's security on that app T_T.
I apologize if this is in the wrong place or shouldn't be asking if anyone's having this same issue or problem but any workarounds or suggestions would help!
Regards
I cant help with that emulator specifically, but none of my sideloaded apps have had sound problems including MyBoy which is the GBA emulator I use. If the issue cannot be resolved then most likely it is something in the ePSXe apk itself that is not sending audio to the correct place, or possibly a plugin issue in the emulator that needs to be loaded onto the tablet too. Dont know though if the Android versions uses plugins like the PC software does.

Thanks for the reply EniGmA! Im assuming that has to be as well, I've tried using the free version of the PSP emulator PPSSPP from the play store and sideloaded it which produces no problems other than the ones expected because its young in its development, but I'll give another emulator a try and see if it produces any issues. ePSXe doesn't have much custom settings as it's PC counterpart (plugin selections etc) with the exception of being able to select an OpenGL plugin if you have one but I haven't managed to find an Android plugin I can download that I can select from to give a try, but ill see if I can dig more.
Anyone else have any more thoughts or suggestions toss em out!
Tried another PSX emulator not long ago and seems to be something with the ePSXe app and how it works with the HDX I'd imagine. The other PSX emulator I tried doesn't seem to have any issues reproducing video and audio playback. I made a thread even at ePSXe's forums so hopefully this gets looked at as I feel ePSXe has always been the best emulator for PSOne games

Really apologize for the late response! I will give that a try as soon as I'm able to and get back to ya! Thank you.
No go with the Dolby :/, tried turning it off using its widget and couldn't get any audio still, other Emu's can produce sound so I'm assuming it's just ePSXe needing some sort of update or they need to look into it . I did leave something in their forum so we'll see what happens.

Sorry, I figured it might be worth a shot lol
Before I returned the Kindle.. I could not get the sound to work also and others had different kind of problems. So I also tried the HP Slate8 pro and all the same emulators worked flawless. I really loved the sound on the Kindle though.
I did just return the HP Slate8 pro because about after 15-30 playing a game MAN did the front part of the screen got so hot to the touch. Where as the back was just warm.

That's unfortunate you decided to return your Kindle and even the Slate8, hopefully you find something to your liking! Also sounds odd that the ePSXE EMU worked on the HP tab. I tried other PSX EMU's on the Kindle and they worked so that's why I assumed it was just something ePSXE dev's needed to work out and sort, but who knows. Since you say you too had the same issue on your Kindle and yet it was fine on the HP I have no clue what if the issue is related to the Kindle on a hardware/software side or if it is just the ePSXE app?
Here's hoping it sorts itself out in the future. Really love their PSX emu, can't get myself to use any others without comparing it to theirs to be honest lol.
No sound might be an anti piracy measure if Google play ins't found or if the license check fails instead of just disbabling the app all together they just disable the audio.

I could honestly understand that being the reason if that's the case. What I did was try downloading the APK's of the same older version I had on my One X where I bought the app from the PlayStore (since I hadn't updated it for a while). I couldn't back it up into an APK because of its licensing (not sure if Im using that in the right context for this sentence) off my phone because well it's not rooted and I honestly wouldn't know if there's a way to for an app that was paid for and not generally a free app.
But, if that is the case then I can see that making sense as well. Thanks for your input Montis!
I can confirm i have no sound for mine either.
Hi.
We just discover the version in the amazon market, because this version is not an official version from ePSXe team, its a stolen one (check the name of the publisher).
We will contact amazon ASAP to report the situation.
Sorry for any inconvenience.
ePSXe team.

Not sure what this means as I thought there wasn't an ePSXe app in the amazon market place...? But if this is a for real post then it's nice to know it's being looked into?
Now that the play store is up and working can someone test this again and let us know if you get sound or not please. It will let us know if it's really a anti piracy measure or if the sound output is truly broken on the because and needs to be fixed.
I know this is an old post, but did anyone get the sound to work?
I too have that problem on HDX 7.

I used Maxthon Browser and it works flawlessly with bluetooth keyboard. It can even play flash video without crashing like the 8 other browsers I tested.
Thanks for the suggestion angelorg74 but I want to try it, so ...bump
Anyone who wants to download apps that are restricted by region or device on Google Play can use http://www.apkpure.com/region-free-apk-download to download the APK files manually.
Best thing I have found so far is installing Google from the TV Play Store. It seems to be working well as a browser.

Spotify v0.5.2b (Removed Amazon, Firestick version)

Hi! On my old Spotify Connect thread people wanted the new Spotify app for Fireface but without the need of the Amazon Store so here is a modified version of the new Spotify App.
I don't have an Amazon Stick myself so if any updates arives, post the APK here and I'll remove the need of the Amazon Store :highfive:
This is designed for AndroidTV?
Fantastic, works perfectly on my Shield TV, and has an icon for the Android TV launcher!
EDIT: Can you 'de-Amazon' any APK then?

Mostly. Found out that the app Lucky Patcher could remove the need of Amazon, Google Play and other services from apps. Bin using it to remove the need of Amazon for some apps like Spotify. Never failed to work for me.

Have you been side loading the apk on to another device that has lucky patcher on it?
I have Lucky Pathcer on my phone for ease so I download the APK, install it, launch Lucky Patcher (without running the APK), patch the app into a new APK, share the APK to my Nexus Player using Air-Share and then I have the patched app running nicely on my Nexus Player
I don't see why Lucky Patcher wouldn't work on an Android TV directly, the only problem would be the navigation. No idea how it would work, havn't tried.

Confirmed, you can install lucky patcher on the shield and navigate pretty well actually. What other useful amazon locked apps are we missing out on? I tried slingplayer but there is an issue with the way it loads.

It only works if I press play on the phone and then choose the tv with spotify connect.

This works great for me on Shield TV, but there is one caveat. For some reason I can only select things on the screen by hooking up a mouse/touchpad and using the onscreen cursor to click. If I move to a UI element with the remote and then try to activate it by pressing OK or Enter then nothing happens. Anyone else experiencing something similar?

If still running FireOS v4 (7j years old) then YouTube app will likely fail. Sideload a standalone browser such as Opera and enjoy YouTube that way.

FireOS v4.5 is a highly skinned Android 4.4 variant that is 5+ years old and does not natively support Google core apps. Nor is it easy to load Google Play Services which the YouTube app leverages. So yea, it will *probably* fail.
I've seen other people here have been able to get it working along with the THOUSANDS of youtube videos on the topic. These videos don't go in depth on say running a video and just show them installing the app. Are those other people running v5.1 or something?

Well, given there are "THOUSANDS" of instructional videos it should take you no time getting YouTube up and running. I'll just step out of the way a let the experts lead the way ...
Tip: look for videos specifically targeting 3rd gen HDX hardware (screen size doesn't matter) running stock FireOS. It's doable if you don't mind investing hours, dealing with an unstable device and possibly spinning up a 'soft brick' depending on the methodology employed.
Alternatively, root/unlock and install a custom ROM + GAaps
Alternatively, sideload a high quality browser like Opera and play vids there
Alternatively, use a different device running near AOSP such as the Onn 8
Choose your poison wisely. Good luck.
Use browser.
Youtube app sucks since 2018
Older version stopped working after api updates 1 year ago
With silk browser you can choose video quality and get dark mode (the trick to enable its simple, open youtube and switch to desktop version , open configuration menu and enable dark mode, after that switch to mobile version and there is , full darkmode youtube)
If you wanna youtube app, Skytube works fine, you can see your suscriptions videos/ trendings and see comments.
You cannot see live streamings and comment, but its ok for me.
I have tried side-loading Youtube Vanced and NewPipe on my stock HDX 3rd, neither work. Vanced does the weird glitchy playback like you describe, and NewPipe just errors out. As others have said, I imagine it's because of this old Fire OS we're running.
Browser playback works fine. There is an Amazon app store app called 'Video For Youtube' that also works well, it even allows you to sign into your Youtube/Google account. It's free (I'm not the dev.)
