it helps me
couple of days ago my phone dropped to ceramic tile stairs and finished in concrete. my heart stopped and i was sure the screen was cracked. picked up the phone and i could only see a bump on the aluminum frame and nothing else. i've had other phones break in those stairs earlier

I'm already happy we were wrong about the galaxy alpha not having ANY gorilla glass.
About the screen quality, I've set the S5, note4 and galaxy alpha next to each other and I could not tell the difference between 720, 1080 or QuadHD. It all looked the same to me, from close, from far with or without glasses. Just exploding amoled colours.
So I decided to buy the galaxy alpha, mostly for the looks.
(The gorilla glass4, cat6 modem and faster exynos processor are a bonus )
AND unlike the note 4, the alpha doesn't have peeling off, painted black aluminium.

@ simona,
what do you say 5530 is 64 bit CPU,you will see the power than also
antill now we have one of most powerfull phone on year, with lilipop 64bit cpu will boost up Alpha performance
you have 16Mpix camera sensor in Alpha(same as S5 & Note4) but havent developer who can unlock camera 16Mpix
Alltogerher geat phone & prerformce

I know I love that all but when always I look at the screen I just must close my eyes.. It is exactly same screen as on ipad mini 1 when I bought it long time ago I just went ; Jesus christ no way next week I sold it..
I really I am strict on screens as this is my priority.. I dont play games I dont watch films .. I am on internet email documents .. etc.. and if I do this on P7 it has no difference.. When I purchased phone I had no Idea what gonna awaits me.. disappointment.. Lest encourage samsung to force implementation of color temperature feature.. same like on huawei phones it makes screen so so perfect..

Samsung Galaxy S2 low brightness .!

Hi,
I just got my new Samsung Galaxy S2 .
I already have an iPhone 4 .
But i actually have some doubt now .
I compared the 2 screens from the iPhone and GS2 , and found that Galaxy s2 has lower brightness than the iPhone 4 .
But i google'd and found out that people say that galaxy s2 has higher brightness than the iPhone 4 .
This has made a doubt in my mind as to whether my Samsung galaxy S2 screen maybe faulty .?
I have turned auto brightness to off and my brightness is set to maximum on my S2 .
Still i feel like it has low brightness .
Is there some benchmark program (Like quandrant and smartbench )that produces a score for the screen brightness .?
So that i can compare the score and be satisfied that my screen is ok .
Or what else is the option for checking whether the brightness is ok or not .??
Should i upload a video here so that you guys can check that and tell me .??
Reply plzz ....
I think you are comparing the Brightness at it's lowest level but try to do the opposite, compare them on 100% brightness and see what you get.

No , I'm comparing the brightness at maximum for both devices .
What is the way to find out if S2 screen is faulty .?
Should i post a video .??
The SGS2 screen isn't as bright as the SGS1 so don't take people's word for it when they said its very bright. But it is definitely sharper than its predecessor, that's for sure. Try using manual brightness and set it to about 50% to 60% you should be satisfied with that unless you're under sunlight
Anyway I don't know of any apps that test the screen out. If you really wanna be sure, then take it back to where you bought it from or Samsung and ask to do a comparison. Or test with a demo set if they have one.

Who cares how it compares to anything else? Are you happy with the brightness? If so, forget it and enjoy. If not, try a replacement and if you're still not happy then swap it for a different phone.

How can he if he has already see a brighter one?
Anyway, just to say one thing, my previous phone was S8500, and after purchasing I9100, I too find that Brightness is a little bit low than I9100. In fact I found the S8500 screen crisper than I9100. So I liked the S-AMOLED than S-AMOLED Plus. Call me old school, doesn't matter.
Regards.

Hi, when I was comparing the galaxy s2 and the galaxy s1 (side by side in the shop) and my htc desire (amoled). I wanted to see what the differences were between all the amoled series. So I lined them all up galaxy s2<galaxy s< desires and turned all the brightness' all the way up to max and the galaxy s2 was by far the brightest. Furthermore, I read that Samsung claims that samoled+ is brighter than samoled. I have to agree, samoled+ was brighter than the galaxy s.

It's perfect IMO.
Aren't you happy with the brightness of your screen?
I use brightness all the time on 25%. Sometimes on 40% to watch videos.
Take a look at the iPhone screen at full brightness in the dark. Do the same with sgs2 and compare black background on both phones. You're going to realize why sgs2 screen is much better.

Hmmm ive yet to test this out myself, but i remember reading a head to head comparison with the SGS1 and 2 and they said the SGS1 was brighter, and you can also see that its true even from photographs. But the color and sharpness of the SAMOLED+ definitely wins.
Looks like i need to do a comparison myself.
Can i go to a samsung service center and ask them to compare my screen with another galaxy S2.?
Or do i have to goto an samsung outlet for comparing .?
Hi mate! I and my friend just bought 2 SGS2 today and I found that the brightness of the 2 are differernt obviously. My SGS2's birghtness is much lower and with yelow tint. (both with max brightness)
@aidafa : what u mean by obviuosly .??
They should be same afaik ..
Also , what is the yellow tint issue .??
Can u see my video and tell whether my brightness is up to the mark .???
I bought a White S2 from o2, which arrived yesterday , and I am having similar problems
Firstly I thought the screen was just a bit dim , I was a little surprised as SGS2 owners have been telling me how much brighter their screens are than the iPhone 4
I set the Brightness to max , Auto brightness OFF , Powersave mode OFF , Browser Brightness on full , and it still seems that the screen is incapable of presenting the colour WHITE -coloured images can look OK (not outstanding) - but whites simply look grey/blue and "dim"
It's very strange , flicking through the home screens , the white in the dock icons noticeable changes / dims in relation to how much bright colour there is on the screen , it is almost like having Auto brightness on and moving your finger across the sensor !
I think that this would be just "mildly annoying" , but I know (I have seen videos on Youtube) that the SGS2 should be brighter than the iPhone , but .... Well, look for yourself (both devices set to max , auto brightness off (browser brightness full ) )
O2 are happy to replace it , but cannot perform the swap till Tuesday , I am hoping it is a faulty device, rather than a faulty batch ! - if the replacement turns out the same I don't think I'll be able to keep it.
- I should add , on a screen where the majority of the screen is black , with a small amount of white , it can make that white as bright as the iPhone next to it (i.e. in the menus etc , but when it has a screenful of white (as per the image) it dims right down (hope that makes sense to you ? ) ...even by bringing the keyboard up it (i.e. introducing more dark area to the screen) makes remaining white a little brighter.
Dude .. You have too much money.. Ill have your gs2 and you keep the iphoney... ;-)
Here is a video to try and demonstrate what I mean - notice the more white on the screen , the dimmer it gets - less white=Brighter
This is what is actually happening , it is not the camera adjusting

OK I realise it is not the end of the world or anything , its just that when I buy a phone I expect it to be working 100% - I have heard so many people say the SGS2 screen is the brightest they've ever seen , so this suggests mine is not working properly ?

Sighs... I'm still confused how this happened

Hey
So I have a question what is the quality of the glass on top?? =/
Today I was walking and i moved aside for someone else to pass through my leg just tapped and i mean TAP!! a normal gentle tap! a table on the side after a while i take out the phone and i see the glass on top is shattered.
I am seriously confused what was the quality of the glass? the phone functions normal everything is fine just the shatter at the top and the ripples .
So apart from the quality can it be replaced since i have no option!! have to give to the service center to fix the yellow tint too hope they take it with the broken glass and all....
so will they?
I wonder if they will fix the yellow tint issue under warranty I don't want the reply "oh you damaged screen so you get yellow tint we no fix without charge" (Believe me the reps sound like this )
But seriously isn't this a quality issue of some sort I mean is the glass supposed to shatter this easily =/
Oh yeah this is my first android phone ever.
SE so had good quality so went for it but then again those were feature phones such as w800i etc
damn... no words
mine got insurance already to avoid such surprises.
call them and ask what can be done, explain the situation maybe they will help you
i wish you all the luck mate
did you remove the screen protector that came with the phone (already put on).

Yeah that's what I have learnt the hard way
On another note could just go on to invent a time machine...(Sorry I get a bit carried away I know )
Quality is offer by Ericsson !
not SONY ! :-D
Sony need get money :-D
And that's why this phone have cheap piece in.
like the screen,or plastic,or battery or. .....
but
I if I'm right the screen is
by Samsung,
not sony(not totally sure)but on the vita yes
In major way sony do nothing,
they just buy and assembly some piece in the phone in china,
under their brand.
Only design and motherboard is sony
It's a pure cheap brand by fan ! :-D
This is not my first phone krkr!
I mean 34
I alway buy Ericsson in the past,
because they do some good
quality phone
but motorola have good quality phone too
(they construct all piece in the phone)
I have a sony ps vita,
and this is the same way,
the screen have spot,tint,line,ect..
If you not agree with me,
go on google and search about this ;-)
I'm surprised that you ignore quality on a phone made in china at low price !
But for me
I like the design of sony they made beautifully phone.
Btw,
Sad for you, hope you can get another phone
This phone is fragile,very fragile!
What do u mean. Quality offered by Ericsson. Have u been smoking? And who told u the screen if the vita is by Samsung. Sony manufactures OLED screens. The display on this phone is by Sony. So is the camera, or u wanna say exmor is by samsung. Even the battery. Dude, get your facts straight.

@kaosdroid don't talk rubbish, anyway this phone was designed while under Sony Ericsson...
to the OP I'm sorry, but that does not look like a gentle tap the point of impact looks like there was some pretty heavy force. Are sure it was from hitting the table? Not that I don't believe you, maybe it hit a weak point in the glass?
I always put the phone in my pocket screen facing inwards (to my leg) which just protects the screen from such damage, good tip
As for replacing under warranty due to the yellowing, I don't know if the digitiser and LED screen are intact as one piece i.e. the glass that shattered isn't the part they replace when repairing the screen problem

to the Sammy troll . Xperia s was made by se as this phone was designed 2 years ago look it up n vita OLED is by Sony n this display is also by sony oh n Sony has good build quality too btw they are known for it worldwide what planet do you live on??? He really must have dopped acid or something
Yeah thats what I am hoping like they are different parts. I duno whatever just hope they are going to be cooperative you know. I swear it was a tap cause se I shuffled to the side between the desks to make way for a guy passing n then on to the path I wasn't running or anything I was in class. But you know what I thought about the weak point how the ripples are made came to the conclusion that the point of impact was the speaker grill if thats what it is just below the Sony logo n that too the very edge of it so talk about bad luck to the max. Just hope it can be replaced n wont cost me an arm n a leg knowing Sony's pricing

To the discussion about who made the screen etc.
It may shock people to know sony have never manfuactured lcd panels themselves, they dont have a fab for it. They used to have a technical partnership / joint venture with samsung electroncs called S-LCD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S-LCD)
But when sony brought out the erricson side of the mobile partnership, samsung purchased sony's stake in the displays partnership and then spun off the display arm into a new company (called samsung displays I think).
The new ipads screen is made by samsung
Samsung manufacture small and large lcd's along with there oled lines, they are one of the biggest manufacturers of lcd panels going the other major players are AUO, Hitachi, Lg, NEC/Phillips
Also from samsungs financial report (2010) sony are samsung electronics biggest buyer.
Samsung's largest clients (Q1 2010)
Rank/company Part description Buying (trillion KRW) Percent of total sales
1 Sony DRAM, NAND flash, LCD panels, 1.28 3.7
Edit - Have just had a quick look around on google and it doesn't seem as if anyone has done a bill of materials for it yet (they like pulling ipads apart for this) so unless people have screen part numbers we cant confirm / deny the supplier of the xperia s' screen

[Q] Fragile display and terrible camera

I have two discussions to be made. Those are as follows:
1. The fragile display. Though the Moto E comes with a gorilla glass but it feels really fragile. Let me tell you how. Have you ever touched an LCD screen of a laptop or any non-touchscreen? Did you notice that when you touch it, you see "waves" emanating from the point where you touch. It feels like touching some liquid. This happens upon touching all LCD screens (which arent touchscreens). So the problem is, even the slightest of touch on the Moto E's display creates these waves especially at the center of the display and at the edges. Is this problem there with all moto e units or is it the problem of only my handset?
2. Well, everybody knows Moto E's camera is quite terrible. Is it possible to take sharp close up shots ? I often use my phone's camera for taking pics of pages from books and read them on the phone later. I took a pic of a page and the photo was blurred as hell. Could read nothing. So is there any hope with close up sharp shots?

Well for 1st question - The screen of my moto e is very solid didn't saw any waves
2- moto e camera is fixed focus so it can't focus on text sorry but taking pics of text pages will do you no good as it will lack focus.

1. So this means it's the problem with only my handset?! What the hell! Even the slightest touch creates those LCD display-like waves! What to do now?
2. Alas, I use the phone camera for only one purpose and I cant even perform that. Feels like I wasted my money. They said its "touch to focus" so I thought I wud need to touch the display and it'll focus automatically and take a pic.

1- I am confused how you are getting these waves its gorilla glass not some plastic, You can check with other members if they have some problem like this but I am sure no one will have that kind of problem so best is to get you moto e screen checked.
2- For camera, it's bad real bad for focusing on text (I know it I tried ) Its not touch to focus its touch to set exposure. I am sorry I am not able to help in camera department.

I never knew that a "fixed focus" camera existed. Every phone provides an auto focus cam (even cheap ones). I never knew there were cams which couldnt take close up shots and wasnt aware that Moto E's cam was one of them.
I'm thinking of buying a new phone. My budget is 10,500 INR. I want a tier-1 branded phone. Any suggestions?

I'm thinking of buying a new phone. My budget is 10,500 INR. I want a tier-1 branded phone. Any suggestions?

Go with Galaxy S Duos 2 S7582.....
As for the screen problem, I can vouch that my E doesn't have this problem neither any of my friends have this defect with E...
Ask FK for a replacement as soon as you can... FK provides a 30 days replacement warranty....
Even my phone creates waves on a small touch
not much at the edges, but at the center, the slightest touch creates waves. pressing it hard makes a whole lot of it
wonder what happens when its pressed hard while removing back cover
@parineeti Yeah, thinking of that one only. But RAM and GPU are a problem. Which is better? Adreno 302 or Broadcom Videocore IV?
@anil Exactly. Its mostly at the center n very less at the edges. i think this problem is there with most Moto E units, but most people dont notice it actually. Thank God I'm not the only one.
Not sure if I'm allowed to post on an old thread. But, I just got a white Moto E a few days ago and I have the exact same problem! When I first booted up my device and got onto the home screen, THE SLIGHTEST TOUCH cause a rainbow ripple on the center of the screen. It feels like I'm touching a hallowed piece of plastic device. Not sure if I'm going to send it back to Motorola for a "like-new" one or just live with it.
I have same issue with my screen also, I guess we have to live with it. [emoji29]
Sometimes it's so annoying.

Got new Alpha - Quite Disapointment !

Got it today .. design is nice but the screen is AWFUL !! DISGUSTING !
And this cost 500 pounds ..?!?!?! Only stupid will buy it for that price !!

Sorry to hear that. It might be that you got a faulty device. I have the Alpha since the first days it cane out and i'm happy with the clarity of the screen and can't see any dots unless i use a magnifying glass.
As per the colors though, i think Sammy could have done a better job with the whites. I find not to be a pure white but aome hazy white

Hi
No no I don't have faulty alpha..
I just comparing phones.. And I had Honor 6 and it has IPS screen and that is BEST screen today!!
I put P7 next to each other and Samsung screens are not good.. Darker and I can see micro dots..
Amoled is not impresive..
Have the Alpha for 2 months and I am very happy.. I compared my alpha and my moto x and Alpha looks better to me. I ditched all latest flagship fone for Alpha btw.. And my moto x and Lg pro are inside my treasure box now..

Did u root it?
Honor 6:
ips
Brightness: 482.2cd/m²
black: 0.50cd/m2
contrast: 964:1
95.1 per cent sRGB colour gamut coverage
Galaxy Alpha:
amoled
Brightness: 325cd/m²
black: 0
contrast: infinite
100 per cent sRGB colour gamut coverage
diamond Pentile matrix
conclusion: Yes the honor 6 has a brighter screen but the samsung has better black-values, contrast and colour reproduction. Unfortunately it also has a diamond pentile matrix screen which lets you little dots when viewing very close.

Well i mentioned honor 6 bcos i sold it to buy alpha.. wel.. all live with it couple of months
I compared it with Ascend P7 and iphone 5 .. they are nice clean white and letters are smooth not pixelated..
Thing is IPS display is a MUST today they did great job on moving forward with LCDs..
Did you really expect anything different.
Its a Pentile Display yuk
Plus its overpriced theres no way I'd pay £500 for this, especially with its small battery.
When I could get a Z3C for less than £350

Overpriced? - yes, i agree.
Small battery? - hmmmm, it's small yes. but gets me through the day without problems with relatively moderate use.
Z3C? - no, thanks. i got disappointed since camera looses quality after root. check out the Z3C forum and see the tons of disappointments there. i'm sure much more issues than Alpha.

no mate no ..alpha is real.. my standards are higher than your .. there is no any fake .. for alpha .. u must see honor 6 or P7 display first and then this..
The screen does suck for such an expensive phone. There are different kinds of amoled displays. And this one is not one of the top-tier ones. It's like Samsung opted for the semi premium feel on this device. The screen is obviously not their best. The screen is clear and I found to adjust the colors a bit in display settings gave a nice result. - This is how ever really an objective opinion, colors.
Having used a 1080p screen, on even bigger devices this 720p pentile display disappoints me in a major way too. It's one of those screens that really makes the pixels stand out when you get remotely close to the phone. I don't like that in an expensive phone. But hey, most of the time I don't get that close to it anyways. On normal use it looks just fine. I would have just expected more from a top-tier Samsung device. Pouring money into the metal frame and then leaving the screen with older technology is only covering half the distance from Samsung. But yeah, deal with it or return the phone. This phone has a great size and I'd say for the design and such, none touches it atm. The pentile display could have been better. :/ It's just like, I have a red icon on my home screen, and I can see on the lines of it that the pixels "stiches" finely into the background color in a pattern. I can't see it when I take a screenshot and transfer it to my PC, this is so common on smartphones and it's really disappointing when you know you can get loads better screens. But oh well. I thought 720p on a 4,7 incher would be almost if not as good as 1080p on a 5,5 (OnePlus One), but it's just not. But I suspect the pentile amoled technology has something to do with that too. Colors are great, the rest is just balls.

Welcome on the boat my friend, we all have the same issue we can't love phones that are too big to too small...Alpha is just perfect in all aspects! I have dropped my phone twice and it did not do any damage because i have a tempered screen glass protector on it. Get a glass screen protector and you are good to go!
Oh, Its the first time i hear that these "tempered screen glass protector " is for crash protection ! .. i thought its only a stupid protection for scratching & give a bad feeling for my figures when touches the screen ...
Any way, if its really reliable I'll use them !
Thank you bro. for the reply so I'm no the only only who will pick a lower specifications phone over a better one because of the pretty looking !
I'm now just confused between Alpha & Z3 Compact ... actually there are many phones at the same price also other phones like Z2,S5,G3,some HTC &Devices are close to the price of the Alpha :3
Z3 Compact has less features than Alpha, But some of the shared features are Better than Alpha, also Nice looking, better than the look of Z2 & its small & pretty enough.
I'm Bad in decision making , i think i have to watch some videos & check the support availability for Z3 Compact first
For the camera I think all the phones has bad camera & shared problems since 4 years & no fix for it ... except Apple iPhones always win the camera comparisons against any android phone in the world .. this why i'm taking my friend who have iphone 5s with me when i going to awesome place
Thanks alot

dropped mine a few times on a marble floor. slight scratches along the metal rim but nothing significant.
Every screen can break on first drop, that one youtube video doesn't mean anything. It's just a matter of luck. The glass is the same as the note 4 and galaxy S6 (gorilla glass v4)
Sent from my SM-G850F using XDA Free mobile app
thank you all
anyone noticed that this phone has too slow charging issue !
i tried to charge it via the laptop & the original charger both are the same.
also this night, i put it beside me & get sleep for 8 hours, when i wakeup , then phone was turned off & the battery was 0% !!! anyone has a comment about this ?
thanks
you should sale Alpha & buy Xiaomi m8
I can see on all your post you are not satisfied with your fake Alpha
I bent a USB Charging Cord the metal part that goes into the phone at a 90 degree angle charging and opened sliding door where phone was with Zero damage to phone or USB port - the metal frame is very rigid !
I have a tempered glass protector and very slim clear Case called Casemate Naked Tough and recently the Phone dropped off a 36" Counter onto Concrete Floor- no marks or damage and stayed on Internet Radio.
Rugged little phone but some protection advised.
The great thing about these rigid metal phones is less likely to flex and break in a Pocket IMO.
I met with an accident (on Bike) About a month ago ,
And Screen of my alpha was shattered (there wasn't any case or screen guard)
Luckily i had an insurance , and samsung replaced the Screen .
i paid only Claim charge [600 INR] ( screen cost was 9000 INR)
