Sorry to hear that. It might be that you got a faulty device. I have the Alpha since the first days it cane out and i'm happy with the clarity of the screen and can't see any dots unless i use a magnifying glass.
As per the colors though, i think Sammy could have done a better job with the whites. I find not to be a pure white but aome hazy white

Did u root it?

Honor 6:
ips
Brightness: 482.2cd/m²
black: 0.50cd/m2
contrast: 964:1
95.1 per cent sRGB colour gamut coverage
Galaxy Alpha:
amoled
Brightness: 325cd/m²
black: 0
contrast: infinite
100 per cent sRGB colour gamut coverage
diamond Pentile matrix
conclusion: Yes the honor 6 has a brighter screen but the samsung has better black-values, contrast and colour reproduction. Unfortunately it also has a diamond pentile matrix screen which lets you little dots when viewing very close.

Well i mentioned honor 6 bcos i sold it to buy alpha.. wel.. all live with it couple of months
I compared it with Ascend P7 and iphone 5 .. they are nice clean white and letters are smooth not pixelated..
Thing is IPS display is a MUST today they did great job on moving forward with LCDs..

Did you really expect anything different.
Its a Pentile Display yuk
Plus its overpriced theres no way I'd pay £500 for this, especially with its small battery.
When I could get a Z3C for less than £350

Overpriced? - yes, i agree.
Small battery? - hmmmm, it's small yes. but gets me through the day without problems with relatively moderate use.
Z3C? - no, thanks. i got disappointed since camera looses quality after root. check out the Z3C forum and see the tons of disappointments there. i'm sure much more issues than Alpha.

The screen does suck for such an expensive phone. There are different kinds of amoled displays. And this one is not one of the top-tier ones. It's like Samsung opted for the semi premium feel on this device. The screen is obviously not their best. The screen is clear and I found to adjust the colors a bit in display settings gave a nice result. - This is how ever really an objective opinion, colors.
Having used a 1080p screen, on even bigger devices this 720p pentile display disappoints me in a major way too. It's one of those screens that really makes the pixels stand out when you get remotely close to the phone. I don't like that in an expensive phone. But hey, most of the time I don't get that close to it anyways. On normal use it looks just fine. I would have just expected more from a top-tier Samsung device. Pouring money into the metal frame and then leaving the screen with older technology is only covering half the distance from Samsung. But yeah, deal with it or return the phone. This phone has a great size and I'd say for the design and such, none touches it atm. The pentile display could have been better. :/ It's just like, I have a red icon on my home screen, and I can see on the lines of it that the pixels "stiches" finely into the background color in a pattern. I can't see it when I take a screenshot and transfer it to my PC, this is so common on smartphones and it's really disappointing when you know you can get loads better screens. But oh well. I thought 720p on a 4,7 incher would be almost if not as good as 1080p on a 5,5 (OnePlus One), but it's just not. But I suspect the pentile amoled technology has something to do with that too. Colors are great, the rest is just balls.

Screen Colors Off?

Does anyone eleses yellows and Greens look off esp the yellows they seem to be very dull and off and almost orange
I agree, the market icon look Olive-colored on Atrix 4G
A lot of you were looking at the oversaturated SAMOLED screens for a long time... this is way more natural.

Qhd is not a screen technology, its a resolution.
And the problem with the colors isn't that they're dull or unsaturated compared to a super amoled., that's to be expexted. The problem is that the colors are just wrong compared to just about any screen you want to compare it too, load up some websites on the phone and a well calibrated desktop monitor and you'll easily see the difference.
Compared to my captivate im really happy. That thing made skin tones green or orange.
It has to be reiterated. The oled display technology OVERsaturates the colors. As in, the colors are overly vibrant. The atrix will more accurately display colors.
Ok, saying this again. We (at least I) am not saying this in comparison to a samoled screen, the colors on a regular LCD will obviously never look like that, the colors on the amoled are completely wrong. However that doesn't mean the atrix has them right, just look at the screen compared to a well calibrated computer monitor.

Bumping this to get some attention on this issue.
I'm considering returning my Atrix because of how bad yellows and blues look, compared to OTHER LCDs, not compared to Super AMOLED screens.
I lined up my Captivate, Atrix, iPod Touch 4, and my wife's HTC Evo Shift and fired up Words with Friends on all of them. While it's clear that the Captivate is oversaturated, if you take that out of the equation, the Atrix's colors just look bad compared to the other two LCDs. The yellow tiles look "dirty" like they have a brown or greenish tint to them. The light blues in the tabs on the home screen of Words with Friends look like they have a greenish tint as well.
I've seen a lot of people say that they think it's one of the greatest displays ever, up there on par with the iPhone 4. If that's true, I really hope mine and other people seeing this just have defective models that can be exchanged.
I'm going into my AT&T store sometime tonight or tomorrow in hopes of putting two or more Atrices side by side to compare.
If anyone else seeing this problem could do the same, it would be very helpful. Especially as it seems likely that a random one pulled out in store could have the same defect.
Scott, I have my atrix boxed up ready to go back for the same issues. I went to the at&t store and looked at their 3 demo units, all of them looked the same.
If you go to a verizon store and play with a motorola droid x you'll see that its screen looks the same as well, it's just whatever panel maker motorola is using. People that are saying "It's the greatest screen evar, just as good as the iphone 4" are suffering new gadget love and can't see the flaws. It's not the worst screen ever but it is a definite step down from other manufacturers screens.

I would have to agree, the iphone4 has a pretty good display. It is a bit oversaturated, but does look pleasing to the eye. The iphone is also much smoother when using the pinch to zoom feature. With the Atrix having a dual core processor, I thought it would at least be on par with the iphone, but for some reason it's definitely not as smooth.
Oh well... just my 2 cents.
So I went in to an AT&T store last night and compared my Atrix with their demo unit.
The colors seem a little bit better, but interestingly, the demo unit's display didn't seem as bright as my Atrix, and it may have had slightly higher contrast.
I got one of the associates to look at it and agree that mine had a slight color cast to it. They said they would do a replacement for me if I came back with my paperwork from my online order, so I said I would do that today or Saturday.
I went straight home and compared my Atrix again to my wife's HTC Evo Shift. In doing that, I still felt like the color on her screen was significantly better than on mine, and in seemed better than I remembered the store's demo unit, as well.
So, I think I need to get my phone and her phone both in there, side by side with the demo unit, and see if I could live with the screen if it was exactly the same as the demo unit. I think probably yes, given the other major advantages of this phone (qHD resolution, Tegra 2, 1GB RAM), but as a graphic designer, bad colors are hard for me to take. And colors that are off in the way the Atrix's screen is off are a graver sin to me than oversaturating a la Super AMOLED.
Bottom line, I'm still on the fence. Has anyone else done any other tests?

Wait, so now the iPhone's IPS LCD is oversaturated too? Let's face it: Atrix is weak on colors -thanks to the RGBW PenTile display, where they tried to prolong its life by replacing some Blue tiles with White tiles -which makes colors pale.
It does look great with flesh tones though. Ill give it that.
People who complain about wrong colors have been looking at way oversaturated screens... as a semi advanced photographer, I can agree that the atrix screen is very very good color wise ...

Or they got an Atrix with a defective display, like me. Ony my Atrix, there's no getting around the fact that yellows look dirty and brown, and that certain shades of blue look greenish.

[Q] Is the Pentile screen noticeable on the Galaxy S III?

I'm thinking about buying the Galaxy S III, but the Pentile screen is really holding me back. I mean, why buy a device with a screen that looks bad and has to be looked at for several hours a week?
I've heard that at high resolution, Pentile screens don't matter. But I want some opinions from all you people out there.
And what would you expect to see looking at a poor quality entitle screen?
My s3 is probably the clearest looking screen I've looked upon

Older AMOLED Pentile Display were bad because they have a low ppi (240ppi on the SGS1)
But SGS3 screen has a 306ppi and the "pentile effect" seems to be not there (at least I do not see it on my SGS3

No matter what? Even if you're holding it like a inch away from your phone? I usually use my iPod touch (I have a Blackberry phone, it sucks for web browsing) when in the mornings when I don't feel like getting out of my bed. I usually hold it just 6 inches away from my eyes.
My S3 has to be the clearest screen I have ever seen. Had it for a few days now and still doesn't fail to amaze me whenever I turn the screen on.
You don't have to worry about holding it 6 inches or even 2 inches away from your face.
Its really beautiful...much better then my Nexus...
The best way to solve your problem is to go the nearest store and have a look at the demo unit. Don't believe what you hear or read, believe what you see.

I saw the Motorola Droid Razr before I knew what pentile was and I thought it looked weird and pixellated so it's certainely not placebo. At the ppi of the GS3 it doesn't matter imo. I do still notice it (but not like I can count the pixels.. but it just is a little bit different then normal rgb screens) but the screen is still somehow the best I've seen in a phone.
You shouldn't keep yourself from buying it because of this as it not even really noticable, it's the best screen there is imo and it even spares some battery.
I can notice the pentile effect if I stare hard at the screen from less than 10cm away. I've compared my S3 to the HOX and the HOX does indeed has a finer screen. But still the S3 has one amazing screen. The blacks are much better although the colours seems a little over saturated and slightly on the warm side.

Well then I guess you have two options 1.) Wait two weeks and then go look at the phone 2.) Go with a different phone.
The only time I notice the pentile screen is whilst reading some text. It is barely recognisable but if and when you notice it you'll subconsciously start to look out for it. But it is very minor indeed, and changing the font of text helps to more or less eradicate it.
Aside from that minor quibble re text I have to say that this screen is absolutely awesome. Colours and contrast are absolutely amazing. I tend to set the screen mode to Natural as I think this gives the best colour effect.
I know this screen is awesome because when I switch from it to my iPad 3's retina screen I don't feel any degradation, if anything pictures and videos look better on it than on the iPad 3 - and that's saying something!
Does this screen have the same issues as the Galaxy Nexus screen? Purple tint at low bright setting and whites looking like old yellow newspaper?

I didn't own the G Nexus, but there is no purple tint at low brightness. My S2 had a slight yet noticeable yellowing at low brightness - this does not
Yes, if you will use the phone under a magnifying glass
"Super Amoled Plus" will never work with High Resolution. They are not designed for that.
Move up dude
I my opinion It is noticeable, but only at ~3" away and I do have 20/20 vision but in any other situation It's fine, I have even fooled a few friends who own an s2 that it was a 'plus' display but as above you are best going to have a look
Its noticeable, coming from an Xperia S (which I gave to my wife for this phone) and having a G Note which died before the Xperia S, its the same for me as the G Note.
It's mainly around fonts and small icons which is more noticeable, definitely not in pictures unless you have super vision, but most of the time you're looking at fonts or small icons, so yes its there.
But FWIW I wouldn't trade it for the contrast, I've never owned a phone with such contrast (actually the Note was the same), but having said that in sunlight forget using this phone, side by side in sunlight with the Xperia S, the Sony wins hands down.

Galaxy S 4 Active

Galaxy S 4 Active.
It looks AWESOME. (And I like hard buttons).
Anyone think it's coming to Verizon?
If so I'm ready to buy. Really ready. No more dead phone in the toilet.
Screen that works in the rain, camera takes pics underwater, etc. Awesome. Bonus: probably better pix thanks to smaller megapixel count.
Ya, I'm super excited about this too. I just bought my S4 last week full retail...but I'll probably end up selling it and buying this one when it comes out. Not having to keep a case on the phone and not having to worry about having plastic baggies with me when I go to a game when it might rain...completely worth it.
Plus it's not a pentile screen, so the screen should actually look *better* than the one on the stock S4.

I know I just got more excited, I just noticed it has an LCD screen. I've always hated AMOLED with a passion. PenTile more so.
Samsung screens are dim, plus they wear out, go yellow, burn in, have tint, blotches at night, colors are not accurate, and then there is pentile. Which is even a bit noticeable on S3 though not quite so bad. And to be fair Note 2 is pretty good, and S4 is too. The worst part is how incredibly dim the AMOLED is, it's nuts. However I have gotten used to the nice black levels, that's one thing I'll miss.
We need this on Verizon.

Is it as bright as an HTC One LCD? I haven't compared but I'd imagine it's not even close.
PenTile used to be my main issue with AMOLED aside from dimness. Yes, I agree that is mostly fixed with higher resolution now, although if you look close you can still see it.
The rest of the issues are still valid, particularly how darn dim AMOLED is and how crappy whites look. Generally I feel LCD is still superior overall, and for all those reasons. And I didn't even mention the black crush/contrast issue which I expect still persists.
This is why Active with LCD has me SUPER EXCITED!!

It's still an issue. This phone is downright dark when outdoors in sunlight. I have to shield the phone if I want to be able to see anything at all on the screen. Next to the iPhone 5 or HTC One the difference is huge when in bright light.
I can't wait for the Active...it's pretty much the ideal phone, IMO. Tough, waterproof, and awesome specs.

it helps me
couple of days ago my phone dropped to ceramic tile stairs and finished in concrete. my heart stopped and i was sure the screen was cracked. picked up the phone and i could only see a bump on the aluminum frame and nothing else. i've had other phones break in those stairs earlier
I'm already happy we were wrong about the galaxy alpha not having ANY gorilla glass.
About the screen quality, I've set the S5, note4 and galaxy alpha next to each other and I could not tell the difference between 720, 1080 or QuadHD. It all looked the same to me, from close, from far with or without glasses. Just exploding amoled colours.
So I decided to buy the galaxy alpha, mostly for the looks.
(The gorilla glass4, cat6 modem and faster exynos processor are a bonus )
AND unlike the note 4, the alpha doesn't have peeling off, painted black aluminium.

I know I love that all but when always I look at the screen I just must close my eyes.. It is exactly same screen as on ipad mini 1 when I bought it long time ago I just went ; Jesus christ no way next week I sold it..
I really I am strict on screens as this is my priority.. I dont play games I dont watch films .. I am on internet email documents .. etc.. and if I do this on P7 it has no difference.. When I purchased phone I had no Idea what gonna awaits me.. disappointment.. Lest encourage samsung to force implementation of color temperature feature.. same like on huawei phones it makes screen so so perfect..

Is the TAB S6 AMOLED screen really that bad?

So I currently own a Tab S4, Note 10+ and Note 8 and I've been impressed with the AMOLED screen. Today I got a Tab S6 and I'm severly disapointed by the screen quality. Compaired to the other AMOLED displays, this looks like an old LED panel, pretty bad quality no deep blacks, low contrast and the same image looks totally different over the two Tab screens. Additionally, when something comes up that blurs the background, the effect is more like a severly reduced pallet count rather than the normal blurring effect.
Is this normal for the Tab S6 or is this a bad unit?
I've also had trouble with the under screen finger print scanner not registering fingerprints, so I'm thinking faulty...
I haven't had any problem with the screen nor the fingerprint. Might be a bad unit.
No problems with mine...Everything looks great. Just a thought...When I first got mine up and running it looked a little dim as you describe. I went into the settings and put it on vivid and it lit up and was a totally different look. But if that don't help then probably a faulty screen.
Come from the tab s3 have an s10 plus as my daily phone looks just as good as the s10 plus in my opinion.
Nope it isn't
I did try that, but even with vivid on it still looked washed out

Yeah sounds like a bad screen....I would take it back.
The quality control is awful, I've had three which I've returned due to uneven black levels.
Samsung are obviously aware of the issues with the displays but they don't care because many users just don't complain about it, or don't know what to look for.
Apparently there are a lot of people having uniformity issues with their devices and there doesn't seem to be one free of defects. As always it's the OLED lottery! Exchange until you're satisfied.

We are all techies in this forum the average user would probably not even notice if the backlight was uneven especially if they have come from an old non OLED device I think that's probably part of the issue

Totally different look that gnus hooked people up on, and milliards of nobbs saying that amoled is way superior tehnnologi. Now it decided to turn around and present natural colour palette (with uneven wrinkled display to boot), i agree that it can be not so good to look at it after vivid

Im in the same position as you and I already bought 3 Tablets that had unsatisfying black levels. I feel bad for buying and returning them and I am asking myself if I should keep trying or just give up.
The OLED display on my note 8 looks so smooth and even. I wish I would find a similar tablet display.
Did you finally find a unit of the Tab S6 that has perfect blacks ?

Unsatisfying black levels? How is this possible? Black should be totally black LOL xD
Do you mean the grey color or something near black? Or you guys really talk about true black color? ( for example when booting up the device )
True blacks are fine, but it doesn't handle mixing very well - Compression and noise is easily noticeable at that point.
For example : The blacks in this video look terrible and Compression is easily noticeable when mixing the Vegas sign and the landscape of the city.
But in this video, they're perfect - The only noticeable problem in this video for me is when the camera is panning the planet and mixing black, purple and blue - at which point some minor noise is present but the rest is fine.

No, I'm not concinved there are any perfect displays. I still have one corner that's darker, honestly this experience has put me off Samsung. As soon as there's an Android tablet with better specs I'm done with this, I might be done with Samsung to be honest, the punch holes in their new phones are horrible and they're overpriced..
What's the best way to check the uniformaty of the panel in the S6? I don't believe I've got any issues but better safe than sorry!
Tab S4 much better will return the s6 I just bought as you can see grey in blackboard in so.e videos which you don't on the tab S4. Hopefully replacement will be better.
