Nubia Z7 Root and Google Play Store working - ZTE Z7, Z7 Max, Z7 Mini

Hello friends
I am the happy owner of a brand new Nubia Z7, which is a great piece of art.
But it came without the Google Play Store installed, due the Google policy in China.
After research I will show you a method I used to install Google Play store

Observations:
About the 4G, the both sim cards work fine in 4G, but only one at the same time, the other is 2G. So if you have two different sim cards, both in 4G, you have to select only one for the internet access at one time.
The official ROM is in Chinese and English only.

4. How to install Google Play store
First of all, there is no Google architecture in the official ROM, so you will have no Google services working. So what we have to do is add this structure into system application folder, so Android could recognize them. For this, we need root access.
4.a. How to root Nubia Z7
- Go to Settings->About phone and tab at "Build number" many times till "You are now a developer" appear.
- Go to Settings->More(at the end of menu list)->Developer options and enable "USB debugging"
We need:
- a very small application called TowelRoot from here:
https://towelroot.com
- RootChecker from here:
http://m.downloadatoz.com/apps/com.acr.rootchecker,76892.html
http://m.downloadatoz.com/apps/com.acr.rootchecker,76892.html
-superuser SuperSU
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
Connect Nubia Z7 to the computer (I used Mobogenie for this, it will with auto install the needed drivers) and install the RootCkecker and verify the root access. If you already have root access and you have SuperSU installed, skip to 4b.
Install TowelRoot and run it from within the phone. In two seconds it will ask you to restart the phone and you will run the RootChecker; you will have the root access. If not, repeat the procedure till it works. Do not passto the next step without having root access.
Then install SuperSU. There are many posts on this forum concerning the SuperSU installation and updating binaries.
4.b How to install Google Play Store
We need:
- GoogleServicesFramework.apk, from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1482894
-GooglePlayServices.apk from here
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/?files_box=50c3d7614917b24
- GooglePlayStore.apk from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1996995
-link2sd.apk from here
http://link2sd.en.uptodown.com/android
Install link2sd.apk
Install GoogleServicesFramework.apk
Run link2sd, select GoogleServicesFramework and transform it in a system application
Install GooglePlayServices.apk
Run link2sd, select GooglePlayServices and transform it in a system application
Reboot
Install GooglePlayStore.apk
Run link2sd, select GooglePlayStore and transform it in a system application
Reboot
Now you should have the Google Play store working fine
If still doesn't work, verify the root status, the SuperSU (binary updated) and make sure that link2sd is able to gain root access permission, ant repeat the procedures.
You should pay attention, be very careful with all the procedures, don't do anything if you don't have a minimal knowledge of Android functionality.
This is my Nubia Z7 with Play Store functioning.

Great writeup. I usually install it by temporarily boot up into TWRP and then flash all updates and gapps (I use gapps-kk-20141104-minimal-edition-gps038-480dpi-signed.zip). No root required.
I tried my own version of your tutorial early on when I had just bought my Mini. But I always managed to mess it up (crashing App store, missing apps, etc). I'm sure your way works better though.

I dont have root access
my phone doesnt have root access.
i use towelroot and he said i have root but when i chack it with rootchecker he said i have no access
what can i do ???

Thank you for this guide, after two full hours I got root access and installed all Google Play services!
For me, towelroot did not work. I used Kingo Root instead, this worked like a charm. Just enable USB debugging, install Kingo Root on your (Windows) pc, connect the phone, and press Root.
After following this guide, everything synced fine, except the Contacts. I manually copied the GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk from the gapps zip to the phone, and installed it via the file manager on the phone. After this, I turned it into a system app with Link2SD.
Finally, I have a fully Google enabled phone, with killer specs. I am a happy man now

what is the best way to unroot after the procedure you mentioned? since i wish to update my OS via OTA afterwards! also will i lose the GApps after each update i get from ZTE?

I cannot say whether the phone can or can not update over the air (OTA), after rooting the phone. I have the newest ROM version. When I choose "FOTA online update" in the System update section of the settings, the system checks for updates and says there are none.
System updates usually only consist of patches for the current ROM. It is not a full ROM, overwriting everything. The standard ROM from ZTE does not contain any Google apps, so updating should not touch them. This is all presuming that the base version of Android (4.4.2) remains the same. Usually, this does not change with an OTA update.
Unrooting can be done with SuperSU. In the Settings menu, there is an option "Clean up for permanent unroot". I actually don't want to try this, because I want to have my phone rooted (at least for now). I hope this option works as advertised.

thanks for your reply but i have tried the full unroot of SuperSU but it just keep loading indefinitely and never stops. I have in fact just received an OTA update for version 1.22 and when i tried to update, it does mentioned something about root but the message being entirely in Chinese apart from the word "ROOT" and then fails the update! so i can presume that updating is not possible once i completed your procedure for rooting. Still i am eager to check out the new OS version so we look for a better way to unroot before trying again! but its clear that SuperSU's full unroot feature does not work for me.

Urgently stock recovery image for Nubia Z7(not mini nor max but Z7)
Can you please update the TWRP recovery image you used, as i have messed up mine on my nubia Z7 and did not do a backup of my stock recovery image? i did tried some available for nubia z7 mini and max but none seems to work ( just hangs at Nubia logo).

Will this work for the firmware 1.76 As well?
I have the latest firmware. Will this work for the firmware 1.76 As well?

I wish I could help you, because i did the same to my recovery image...
Is there anyone else here with a Z7 who can provide us with a stock recovery image?

The newest firmware 1.76 is for the Z7 Max only, the Z7 is a different device with different firmware.

I looked up some unrooting options. I used KingoRoot to root my device, that should also provide an unroot option. Please see their FAQ .

Thanks my friend, i did use the KingoRoot to unroot and seems to work fine but still without a proper recovery mod on my phone i can't so an update from sd card to the zip for 1.22 but will try out to update by OTA ASAP! will let you know if it work.
I have created this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/zte...k-cwm-twrp-t3010452/post58364623#post58364623 to ask for anyone who can get us a stock recovery.img or TWRP or CWm that actually work om Z7! Hoping that someone do appear as there seems to be very few actual owners of the Nubia Z7. Mostly people buys the Mini or the max Very unfortunate for us

@LordTao
so how did it go with the OTA Update after unrooting with Kingoroot ?

stock recovery (google is your friend)

Well the unroot does seem to have work but unfortunately and strangely, just after the unroot, any time i try to do an OTA update, it just tell me that i am already using the latest version and no update is available! Since no recovery mod is working up right now, i wonder if this is not linked to that issue. So for now i am stuck with a bad recovery mod and version 1.99 on my new Nubia Z7!

My friend, i did go throughout Google all over but still no stock recovery image is available for the Z7 and the one you mentioned is for the Z7 Mini or max but this does not work for the Z7! i tried so many of them but none work! ( just stuck on Nubia Logo on recovery mod)
So i still hope someone having a Z7 can do a backup of his/her recovery image and send it our way!

@LordTao
You're not on Stock Recovery ?
If you're on stock recovery and the unroot procedure is successful, you should be able to do OTA update i think...
I don't recall there's already a custom recovery for Z7...

If you have installed gapps then ota updates will no longer work. It's possible when you first bought the phone it was already 'modded' meaning ota updates are a no go. I would suggest starting a post in the forums I linked earlier they will likely have stock ROM and stock recovery for you. Also get on Google translate and go on the official Nubia .can forums they will definitely have it posted somewhere.

There isn't any custom recovery for Z7 but i was stupid enough to believe that the CWM customer recovery for Z7 MINI would work and have flashed my recovery to the CWM MINI one but had not done any backup of my stock one. :crying: Now i am stuck with a rooted Z7 with no working recovery. but since i have unroot it with Kingo root, the OTA keep telling me that i have already the latest OS and no update is required. while in the about phone it is clearly mentioned that i am still on v1.99! Now i did also download the update from the official Nubia site but without a working recovery i cant even do an update from SD! So whatever i try i am right now stuck Desperately hoping to see someone able to share his/her Z7 stock recovery with me!

No i had bought my phone directly from ZTE China store in China, and the phone came without any Gapps nor root. What i did was to first root my phone, and install Gapps but then i stupidly flashed my recovery to a custom CWM one for Z7 mini thinking it would work but did do any backup of my stock one. then i was surprise to see that no one was providing the stock recovery for Z7 and no other Z7 max nor MINI worked. but its only then that i got the notifications for OTA update which i had tried a lot of time but was sure that the root was blocking it! Thats when i did an unroot from superSU settings but it failed then i did the Kingo root unroot which worked but now no more OTA is possible as it is telling me no update is available! :crying::crying:
BTW i already open a thread on nubia forum but still no good replies yet!

You can do OTA updates with some non stock Recovery's!! If you read the forum link I posted Nubia also posted instructions that say cwm recovery is fully supported and ota will work. Your problem is that you installed gapps which broke your ota abilities. you need to reflash official ROM to get updates back your recovery should be fine as it is! Good luck bro!

Do you know where can i get the stock rom for nubia z7? And how can i reflash my mobile without a functional recovery mode on my mobile? As OTA still telling me that no uodate available for my mobile right now!

@LordTao
In your previous reply you mention something about updating from SD?
Does your Z7 have a SD card slot?
I just ordered Z7 and only after ordering did i read somewhere that it does not have a card slot... I feel quite bummed about it since the lower spec z7 max and mini all have it...
In the item description of my seller it says that it has a card slot...
I wonder which is true...
Anyway, when i receive my unit i will try to make stock recovery backup....
If i succeed i will post it here...
Keep your fingers crossed!

[Q] MT2-L05 unable to update to 4.4 KitKat

Hello everyone. I wondered if anyone could give me some help with updating my Ascend Mate 2 model MT2-L05 to 4.4 KitKat?
I received the phone on Thursday and it came with 4.2.2 installed.
It shows build number as : MT2-L05V100R001C17B912
From my searching, this appears to be the China Unicom version. I have been to updates on the phone and searched OTA and i'm told that the device is up to date. I have no option on the phone to update from SD card.
I have downloaded the 4.4 update ROM from the official Huawei site for the MT2-L05 and have tried flashing it with the 3 Button bootup method and I receive this message when the autoflasher starts :
checking Module MD5RSA...OK
checking Module CRC...OK
checking Module...CURVER...OK
checking Module VERLIST...
sd_update_func.....fail
then above this recovery gives me 4 options :
reboot system now
apply update from ADB
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
I then choose reboot system and the phone starts up no problem.
I have tried putting the dload folder on a 16gb Lexar sd card, a brand new class 10 Sandisk ultra sd card, and i have also tried putting the dload folder on the phone's internal storage and i get the same error message every time i try to update.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

KK is not available for the phone in the US... yet. Apparently, it is coming but for now, you are stuck with JB.
Thank you for the reply zzEvilGeniuszz, but I am in the UK, and I own the Hisilicon powered Ascend Mate 2 from China.
I do not own the US model, which i believe off the top of my head is Model no : MT2-L03.
I have the correct 4.4 rom downloaded from the official Huawei chinese site and i have also tried the needrom version ( which i think is exactly the same as the official one ), I just cannot get it to flash correctly.
Best Regards !

The only problem is that most of us have the US variant. I personally can't give any advice as to what to do and I'm pretty sure most of the active members on this mate 2 forum will be the same. :/
I am curious, if @4L0M uploaded the KK update to one of us, couldn't altering the build.prop to the same specifications as the US version make a difference? Meaning, if altering the build.prop to US version, then installing, would that work???
I don't think that would work.
There are currently 5 different official 4.4 roms for download from the official Huawei Chinese support site :
MT2_C00 : China Telecom
MT2-L05 : China Unicom ( My Ascend Mate 2 i think, although i see a lot of references to C00 too, so I am a bit confused.)
MT2-L05 : China Unicom Channel
MT2-L02 : Mobile Channels
MT2-L01 : China Mobile
I just extracted my build prop file and it says I am running version : MT2-L05V00R001C17B107SP1.
I have found out there are updated versions B109, B110, B111 and B115 of 4.2.2, so i will see if I can hunt them down and flash them in sequence, then try to flash 4.4
I don't know enough about reading my build prop to work out if it's any good to you, but i can upload it somewhere if you would like to have a look, bearing in mind, at the moment it's only 4.2.2
Ok, so I found all 4 update files and downloaded them. They are about 900 mb each.
I put the first update B109SP5 on my memory card, did the 3 button fastflash startup, and IT WORKED ! ! ! It flashed no problem, then rebooted.
Update Successful. The mate 2 had been on for about 2 mins, then a notification came up telling me that an update was available for the device.
Update was called B110.
I downloaded this ( was about 45mb, it rebooted. SUCCESS !
I then went to settings, Updates, and I now had more options in the menu !
I chose Update online, it downloaded and flashed another small update called B111.
Reboot Success !
Yet another online update , ownloaded, Flashed success This Update was B112.
I then went to online update again, and it said B408 update is available. This one is 4.4 KiKat !
Before i downloaded the 4.4 update, I installed Play Store from .apk i downloaded using the stock browser as none of these updates include the Play Store. I then downloaded Root Checker, as i had rooted the Mate 2 last night. I had lost root annoyingly, as I was going to try to use OTA rootkeeper to try and keep my root, before flashing 4.4
I tried downloading KingRoot apk from playstore, as this is the root manager I had installed yesterday, but I couldn't root with KingRoot.
4.4 is downloading as we speak...............or as I type, to be precise.
Hello again.
I successfully flashed my MT2-L05 to 4.4.2 KitKat at the weekend. Initial impressions are very good.
It seems to have freed up about 400mb of more RAM compared to 4.2.2
4.2.2 free ram at boot up 800mb
4.4.2 free ram at boot up 1245mb
I now have emotion UI 2.3, but haven't used it as i always use Nova Launcher Prime. The phone is miles snappier on 4.4.2, it's a noticeable improvement in speed around the UI and general app opening and viewing of websites etc. The pulldown toggle menu now has a nice transparency to it.
The lockscreen now has a pullup menu at the bottom in the dead centre for a pullup instant access menu to Calendar, Calculator, Torch and mirror apps. There is now a camera icon on the bottom right to instantly bring up a camera from your lockscreen.
4.4.2 on Ascend Mate 2 doesn't appear to support Album artwork on Lockscreen like my Note 2 4.4.2 did.
I also consistently have 1000 less points on Antutu benchmark ( 27,000 ) on 4.4.2 compared to 4.2.2 ( 28,324 )
I also have one more question if anyone can help me. My IMIE number on my box is the same as the one listed in status on the phone, yet the serial number on my box is now different from the serial number my phone shows in phone status. I don't know if this was always the case, or it changed when I flashed 4.4.2
Which one do you think i should Email to Huawei to see if they will send me an unlock code for bootloader?
I have tried for the hell of it Towelroot, Framaroot, Vroot, Kingo, Kingroot, SRS root, and Root Genius to try and root 4.4.2 to now avail. Root Genius told me it was successful, but no root on reboot.....which sucks.

I can't get antutu to work on mine. Also on stock 4.4.2. Not really an issue thought. There's a thread on rooting ham2 here that seems to work without the need to unlock bootloader.
Hi scpion. Thanks for the reply.
Antutu works perfectly for me, so not sure what the problem could be mate.
I managed to Root 4.4.2 in the end using Root Genius 2.0.1.3

Could you please help and tell me step-by-step first the link you found the updates and then how did yousuccesfully managed that(the updating procedure)?I'm stocked to the 1st step that is,the phone trying to update by it's OTA but never happens so after turning on by itself, I have the screen you allready said a few posts before:
"then above this recovery gives me 4 options :
reboot system now
apply update from ADB
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
I then choose reboot system and the phone starts up no problem."
and there is no any updating.
Thanks

I'm in the process of making cm11 and cm12 for the US version of the MT2. It would help greatly if I had a dump of the 4.4 system files for this phone. Unfortunately I don't know how to extract them from the proprietary format. Would anyone be willing to help me out with a system dump from their 4.4 phone? Please PM me and I can provide detailed instructions. You will need to be rooted.
All the US owners would be hugely grateful.
Thanks!

[HELP] Z7 Max (NX505J) upgraded to paolothlw8's unofficial CM12.1 -- report

NOTE: this OP subject was originally "[HELP] ZTE nubia Z7 Max (NX505J) stock ROM v3.09 update report";
- for the "Upgrade to paolothlw8's Unofficial CM12.1 Lollipop v5.1.1 V3 report", see post #22.
- for the Stock v3.19 update, see post #4.
I updated my Nubia Z7 Max from BB72's v1.64 custom KitKat 4.4.2 ROM directly to the latest stock Nubia v3.09, with Lollipop 5.0.
I want to leave here a brief account, so others know this can be done and it is not an overly complicated procedure. But, please, pay attention, because this will completely reformat and factory reset your device -- so, if you want to keep anything on the phone, backup before!
For starters, the downloads and instructions I used (mostly ):
Nubia Z7 Max v3.09 (free registration required for download)
http://www.needrom.com/download/nubia-z7-max-v3-09/
Be sure to access *#7678# dialer menu to enable both ports before and after flashing!
Needrom instructions are quite detailed and accurate, so I'll just summarize the main steps:
Install ZTE mobile USB drivers. (I used 'Drivers All In One Tool By Tigreos')
Download and install 'Nubia Tool Updater V2.0.0' in your Windows computer.
Download 'NX505J_CNCommon_V3.09.rar' file on your computer and unpack.
Run the installed 'Nubia Tool Updater V2.0.0' as administrator (right click...) and select the path were you unpacked NX505J_CNCommon_V3.09.rar.
Watch Needrom's pictures carefully to know when you're ready to proceed (summary picture below, you might need a few tries...).

The remaining button is "Open"......
My findings:
- Drivers MUST be updated for this to work, so you'll have to uninstall previous versions;
- The phone must be connected to computer in powered state, before the Updater is run;
- I had two hiccups after installation, because (I thought) the phone didn't boot and got stuck in the Chinese red letters after the boot animation;
- I solved this by connecting phone to computer again, a Chinese message with a counter appeared, and I let it finish (it counted to 21);
- Tigreos tool also provides for TWRP v2.8.6.0 quick installation (reboot required);
- TWRP provides ROOT (reboot required);
- Even after rooting adb doesn't push files (system RO, no ROOT in shell), so I needed an SD card to get GApps on phone;
- This is caused by ROM being a production build (you'll get a message saying thus: "adbd cannot run as root in production builds");
- After you flash GApps via TWRP, setup and get updated busybox from the Play store, as well as [THREAD="1687590"]adbd-insecure[/THREAD] to solve the problem;
- Not all languages are present (I use English) and some features will be presented with Chinese characters -- so, for a smoother experience, some tweaking will be required...
All in all a fast and stable new start for this great phone, which is being let down for the lack of Western locales support.
Bear in mind that various other information sources exist here at the forum, as well as elsewhere; I'll just list a couple here for the benefit of newcomers...

I thought I'd follow up by posting here some screenshots as well as talking about some of the changes and tweaks I have been doing. So first here are the screen captures of the system details after the upgrade, as well of the AnTuTu benchmark.
System details
AnTuTu Global Score
AnTuTu Comparison Chart
EDIT: list of ROM included mostly Chinese apps I have removed with Titanium Backup without major(!) problems...
Amap.apk
Baidu Map.apk
DianPing.apk
MeiTuan.apk
QQ.apk
Qunar Travel.apk
Sogou Input Method.apk
Sohu TV.apk
Tencent Video.apk
Today's Headline.apk
vip.com.apk
WeChat.apk
Weibo.apk
Mostly Chinese apps I was unable to remove/replace because they caused stuff I need to stop working:
nubia_Music.apk (replaces default Android Music)
nubia_Tms.apk (replaces the default Android browser, but is in fact QQ browser, which I didn't manage to replace with either AOSP or CM default browser).
(!) Be forewarned, though, that there might be unforeseen complications...
Another thing: I seem to have lost the ability to send audio file metadata (filenames, ID3 tags and such) over Bluetooth. If anyone happens to know how to solve, please post. TIA.
Upgrade path to Stock v3.19 successfully completed
As the title implies, I have now upgraded my device to the latest Stock version being offered on Needrom.com.
I lost hours at the beginning because Nubia Upgrade Tool kept giving me the "Internal Modem Error" (see the Italian instructions for solving it here)...
So here's the upgrades list (ATTENTION: serially upgrading appears to be mandatory and you always have to unroot via modded TWRP from v3.15 up):
Stock v3.15 -- http://www.needrom.com/download/nubia-z7-max-v3-15/
Stock v3.17 -- http://www.needrom.com/download/z7-max/
Stock v3.18 -- http://www.needrom.com/download/ota-update-v3-18/
Stock v3.19 -- http://www.needrom.com/download/ota-update-v3-19/
After completion I installed GApps (Pico v5, from first link above) and, for more governors and tweaking options, the NZ7ML kernel v1.3 (the only Lollipop compatible version!).
The final app list (user+system) after GApps installation, updating and debloating (uninstall of every Chinese user app) is at http://pastebin.com/w9DxJMuq.
One of the benefits I am already seeing is improved battery -- only 2% gone after 7 hours, with no screen time...

There are two downloads: "Official Stock Z7 Max v.3.17" is the OTA ROM update, and "TWRP special OTA", which is a modded TWRP recovery installer that you need to put on the phone before upgrading.
Copy the first package to your phone storage -- remembering where you put it; for easy retrieval, my advice is to put it at the root of the phone's internal storage.
Unpack the second package to a folder on your computer and execute the only executable you'll find inside as administrator; if the phone drivers are installed and an ADB connection is achieved, upon pressing "2" the upgrade to the modded TWRP recovery will be performed.
Reboot to Recovery and you should see the TWRP recovery v2.8.6.0 modded by Stalence (it will ask for language settings, choose English, as I summon you don't understand Chinese).
Touch the "Advanced" button, then "Stalence Tools" and "Unroot" -- it will tell you if it succeeded; re-rooting is just a matter of choosing the appropriate option.
Return to the initial screen (touch "Home" or press back button until you arrive), touch "Install", locate the OTA ROM update package and swipe to flash.
In case any of these steps shows some error, just reboot to recovery and do it again (repeat the step).
After doing all, reboot to system and be very, very patient, because it will take a long time to finish booting... Done! :fingers-crossed:
and you can also download Official Stock Z7 Max v.3.20 from here (853.1 MB) and just flash with any recovery
Any changelog for v3.20?
Directly updated to 3.20
And what is the procedure for updating to 3.20? Does it require 3.19 or it can be directly installed from 3.15?
I flashed 3.20 over 3.15 using TWRP and its directly updated. Working fine as of now. Yet to see the improvements over 3.15. Thanks all!
hi. can someone help me out and upload the drivers in the phone itself somewhere? all the available drivers on the web are incompatible with my z7 max. the only one that worked was the one inside the phone. when i installed cm 12, apparently i lost the driver too. i would really appreciate it if someone could upload the driver from the virtual cd-rom the z7max creates. thanks.
i've attached it to this post. hopefully it takes the attachment.

Next time, please avoid double-posting like you just did. Better yet, open up a new thread with your request to improve visibility...
thanks. i apologize for that, i was really frustrated with my phone and in a hurry. i managed to get them after all and installed the new rom (3.15). i just want to highlight something that was mentioned in installation guides, but should be mentioned more than once and with a very big RED FONT!!
disconnect every external hard disk and flash drive from your computer before starting the installation. i almost lost 4 tbs of data on 2 hard disks because i didn't pay attention to this. the app will erase every partition on your external hdd and might create 20-30 partitions on it! and if that happens getting your data back is possible using partition recovery software like testdisk, partition find&mount ...etc.
oops, totally forgot about that. if i'm not mistaken, it was from (NX505J_CNCommon_V2.13) which was the lollipop beta (very unstable).
i have since already updated my phone to v3.15.
v3.15 looks stable so far. from the nubia.cn forums, it seems like anything above 3.15 has been buggy for them (from what my google translate says). so, i have stayed on 3.15.
Amazingly, the best thing so far is that my notifications are all working and battery life does seem to be a bit better. Most of the apps I use also look to be staying resident better and
crashing less.
The built in music player does still seem buggy. Seems to stop/crash quite a bit (especially when I swap over to a game which has music turned off).

As the thread implies, I'm now on v3.19, which I find by far to be the best I have tried (including vanilla stock and BB72 rehashes). Maybe the fact that I run paolothlw8's modded kernel is the key factor here, I don't know.
Now, if only it wasn't bridled with so many Chinese (cr)Apps... :silly:

Someone complained of the same at Adroidiani, so I took the precaution of keeping the Nubia Music APK shared as solution -- you can find it at http://mir.cr/PWWLWUYN...
I haven't tested it, since the version in the current ROM is the best ever for me, but you might want to try it...
And please do tell us if you do.

Is that the nubia setup wizard? I don't remember it having UK as a country to select ... I thought it was just language. Which 309 or 315 did you install? I had no issues install 315 from needrom and then using the paranoidandroid link for gapps. Maybe try it again?
also, you don't need to apply gapps right away. try letting the nubia go through setup wizard first. then go the temporary recovery and install gapps later (if you haven't tried that)
Thanks for this guide and your support.
I used it to go from 1.59 ->1.64 ->3.09 ->3.22
Had some time consuming issues along the way (4-5 hours..) - bootloop when going from 1.59 ->1.64 and loosing IMEI when going from 3.09-> 3.22.
the first issue was finally solved by flashing stock ROM from side load and the second issue was solved by extracting the nv.qcn file from the nubia backup folder under C: and writing it to the phone using QPST tools.
So if anyone hit one of these walls..
Does anyone have any issues with the bluetooth and WiFi?
I'm having an issue with the bluetooth where i can't pair things as it doesn't bring up the popup screen to write the PIN.
The WiFi connection is not stable.

Huawei Enjoy 5 (TIT-AL00) - how to "westernise"?

I have got my hands on a great new Huawei terminal called Enjoy 5, which Huawei officially only sell in China.
And therein lies the issue - it is with a Chinese version of Android, which does not have any Google services on it!
One of the beauties of this terminal is that just about all blurware is installed in the RAM, so it can easily be erased, but things like e.g. browser, maps and app store are all "home grown" Chinese products.
Initially I would love to get Google Play on the terminal, which I know may demand a rooting of the terminal, but as it runs Android 5.1, this is apparently not as simple as it sound.
The terminal has a MediaTek MT6735 processor, 2 GB ROM, 16 GB RAM, 5/13MP cameras, has "HotKnot" (which I do not yet know how works and what I am to use it for - though it sound smart with "touch connection") and run LTE, 3G and 2G.
Does any one have any idea about how I can route this terminal or simply get Google Play Store to run on the terminal?
I second this question.
the Huawei Enjoy 5 is a great phone, the only thing missing is Google play (services).
I have already tried flashing the Gapps, installing the APK's, but nothing seems to be able to get me logged in to Google.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
You can refer to this tutorial: http://www.gizok.com/blog/huawei-mobile-phone-iInstall-all-the-google-apps/
Hi Krystyna,
thanks for quick answer.
I tried your solution, but found it installed an outdated version of Play services etc. on my my phone
the good news is that it also installed the login, which was needed, and when I updated both play store and Play services, I could at least use Gmail and Maps
the play store itself still is stuck on "Check you connection and try again" even though it shows I am logged in.
any suggestion as to how to fix this? the phone has no root strategy yet....
thanks in advance, already getting closer!

Same issue here.
Play store or Google Installer seems to be blocked, in my case the apps dont even start.
I tried also with DC - Unlocker but the program doesnt find the phone
Did you find a solution?
Thanks
I am wondering if there are people out there who got a bit further already?
I know there are roms out there which do have play store, but cannot get them installed... Partition table wrong...
Anyone succeeded?

Though I have not succeeded yet, I have now asked Huawei for help to first unlock the boot loader and then - hopefully - root it.
The phone (TIT-AL00) is now on the official list of approved terminals from Google!
Google Services Framework WORKED!
I live in Russia, and bought the phone Huawei Enjoy 5 (TIT-AL00).
I needed Google Services Framework.
To install GAPPS (Google Apps) required custom recovery.
My friend Jemmini was able to port CWM and TWRP recovery, and create original recovery. Original recovery is needed to install the firmware version B128 from the official site (update.zip).
I can not describe in detail the installation recovery. I suggest to look for a detailed description of the themes for other phones. Or gordonnorth will help

To install CWM recovery or TWRP recovery you need to unlock the bootloader.
The order of installation is as follows:
1. Unlock the bootloader
2. Flash CWM recovery or TWRP recovery via fastboot
3. Install GAPPS from zip-file. After installing the first 5 minutes of loading is very slow. This is normal.
4. Enjoy. Google Services Framework worked.
When installing SuperSU you can NOT get ROOT!!!
You will receive a cyclic reboot. And for the restoration of the phone need flash original recovery, and then install the firmware from the official site (update.zip).
GAPPS file can be downloaded from http://opengapps.org. Platform: ARM64, Android 5.1, variant: pico

Thank you Gordon!
I hope that with my help, you tell procedure to unlock and install.
A potential solution?
Apparently there is a Chinese Rooting tool, apparently called "Odd Rabbit" or "Odd Rabbit Brush", which not only root the terminals but also unlock the bootloade in one process - but I have only been able to find it in a Chinese version on (I can not yet post links, do therefor this format) 7to.cn/
Does any one know if this software is available in an English version?

Hi.
I don't know if this tool has changed anything in the last 2 weeks, but when I tried it, it did not root nor install different bootloader for my device (Enjoy 5)

Hi Andrik, how did you unlock the bootloader?
To get the unlock code from Huawei, you need the "product ID" which you get by firing up the dialpad and entering the *#*#1357946#*#* code, and then it is suppose to show up in the dialer - but on my phone it simply revert to the home screen without showing the code!
How did you get the Product ID?

I live in Russia, and bought the phone Huawei Enjoy 5 (TIT-AL00).
I needed Google Services Framework.
To install GAPPS (Google Apps) required custom recovery.
My friend Jemmini was able to port CWM recovery and create original recovery. Original recovery is needed to install the firmware from the official site (update.zip).
I can not describe in detail the installation of CWM recovery v.6.0.5.1. I suggest to look for a detailed description of the themes for other phones. Or gordonnorth will help
To install CWM recovery you need to unlock the bootloader.
The order of installation is as follows:
1. Unlock the bootloader
2. Flash CWM recovery via fastboot

There's another way to get the Product ID. Thank gordonnorth for detailed instructions on my instructions. English is not my native language and I could not make such a statement.
Appeared TWRP recovery - I added the link above.

The same model TIT-AL00 announced to India with the name of Honor Holly 2 Plus.
Review
And in other countries, the name Huawei Y6 Pro.
Could someone with this device help me out and post screenshots of the settings screens. I'm looking for what would normally be "Settings->Security->Apps with usage access".
Does a similar settings path exist on this device to allow an app usage access?
Thanks

Nubia Z7 (nx506J) working with Google Apps.

I have a nubia z7 with rom version 2.05 (Android 5 and Nubia UI 3), with google apps working without problems. Even youtube.
It took 3 days to figure out how to do it, without rooting the phone.
But some tools are needed...
I upgraded my phone rom (which came with version 2.26, a modified 1.26), put rom 2.02 then 2.03 and at last 2.05, which is the last one in nubia chinese site.
I used nubia rom updater, for the roms version 2.02 and 2.03 you have to decompress to each folder and point nubia updater to that folder.
The last one (version 2.05), i used option update of the phone.
Then uninstalled every chinese app. Downloaded gapps micro for android 5.0.1 and copy to the internal storage.
Then rebooted the phone with TWRP and installed the zip file. With TWRP root the phone, in advanced menu.
After that, i reboot into android system and made login into google play and updated everything.
It's a google phone now.
I think this should work for Nubia Z7 mini and Nubia Z7 Max
I hope this help someone

hi, i'm Senh0r. I had logged with an old account.
now you can uninstall all chinese apps ,that you don't want.
then copy file gapps to internal storage.
Check if you have port ADB selected, by inserting on dial number *#7678# , if not, select it.
Now run the TWRP, which is in chinese, when the menu show up, choose option 3 and wait for the phone reboot into TWRP.
When you enter in TWRP, on bottom of screen you can choose english language.
After that is only to install the zip file. don't check for signature.
Now it's only need to reboot phone.
To enter on TWRP you need always to run the program to reboot your phone.
Anything ask
greetings

having the same issue as helobot.
update to 2.05 no problem
But after installing gapps it crashes in the setup phase
any ideas ?
Did you rooted the phone before installing gapps by twrp?
Rooted from twrp, installed gapps, rebooted.
After a few minutes it started, google setup wizard.
It crashes with an exception.
Gonna give it a shot in a few
Call me an idiot, but I didn't make a backup of the delivered stock ROM KitKat 2.26.
Please have you guys an image? I am stuck for good.
And cleaned the cache and dalvik partition too? Mine its working with no problems.
Cleaned cache etc.
I could hit me for being so stupid to forget backing the original ROM up.
I can easily go to a stock Chinese ROM but at least a KitKat Google ROM would be nice.
Señor or anyone, can you provide a image of 2.26?
Unfortunately I didn't backup it either , but soon I will create a zip file with my Rom with Google apps installed.
I will check Nubia site for older roms too.
Getting the hands on an 1.26 is relatively easy, but the googlefied 2.26 seems to be rather hard to find ...

Hi, I have my phone with 2.26, I have rooted it with kingo, if you can provide me a custom recovery I can do a nandroid back up of complete rom.
Hi Steveyknoxville, Señor shared a custom recovery based on twrp and that works very well. I would really appreciate if you could provide us with the 2.26 ROM
The link is in the first posting of this thread.

Hi, I have read that senor twrp does not work on 4.4.2, are you confirming it does. My biggest question I need answered before I do anything is, if I install twrp how do I go back to stock recovery so I can do Ota updates to get to lollipop. Thanks.
Sorry but I can't confirm weather it fully works or not. I followed señor's guide and updated the phone. But if I recall the thread correctly from nubia cn forums the stock ROM should be a slightly modified twrp anyways.
Try just going into the recovery mode.
You should be able to backup the ROM.
Thanks for the invested time.

so I got myself a Franklin... X96Max Plus2

it's harder to pin down clear decisive info on this box than I thought.
can someone confirm whether using magisk manager (an older version 7xx or 8xx) will successfully flash magisk onto this box without bricking it ?
I've seen a TV Box Stop video on this box that stated messing with the included SuperSU bricks the box...
can it be done via TWRP or patching a downloaded update zip ?
all knowledge welcome
The amlogic boxes, magisk does not work unless you hexedit your boot image. It will install, but not function.
There is a video tutorial on 4pda (russian site)on how to do so, and I'm writing up a visual tutorial at some point soon.
I did the process myself one time, and it works.
The issue I am currently having is my Amlogic Box is also a new "mystery" box.
Repacked by a company called "CONCEPTUM" for the greek market here.
The Model is X96 Air Extreme. I have disassembled it and got the specs on it and photos, and will make a post soon.
Have you gotten yet photos of your internals?
This particular box is somewhat compatible with the
X96Max_Plus_Q2_20201209-1446.img (I had to flash it with that.. long story), everything internal works but the wifi only connects at 54 mbps, not sure if its because of a firmware driver mismatch or its a POS.
I'm looking to flash slimbox pie eventually, I'd rather not open my box if I can avoid it.
Ex Kernel manager reports:
• available ram @ 3794mbs
• max clock speed @ 1908mhz and 4 cores
• GPU mali-G31 with OpenGL ES 3.2
for testing which box you have slimhouse wrote this:
First of all, you should look at the system information in the settings, it will be displayed there: Plus, Plus2, Plus100, etc. However, crooks can fake this and stickers.
Using Device Info HW, you can determine whether there is a 1000Mb LAN and which radio module (turn on WiFi!). If the device was flashed with firmware for another modification, then the information may be missing or unreliable - you need to open and check the presence of the LAN 1000 chip and which radio module is installed.
#
The radio module can be identified by the marking on the chip or by the sticker on the board
X96 Max Plus2. Availability Of 1000Mb Ethernet RTL8211F. You can make sure by connecting 1Gb-supporting devices to the equipment or using Device Info HW, or visually by the presence of a chip on the board. There are 2 antennas. RTL8822CS Radio Module
#
X96 Max Plus2
There was a modification of Plus2, but 2GB of RAM, only the 202009 flash and the special flash for 2GB RAM from JAW are sewn. Photo
And there is also a Plus2 version with the RTL8822BS radio module (Fn-Link 6222B-SRB), there is a problem with the radio module on the ports of Yugos.
Device Info HW says my box has a Wi-Fi chip numbered RTL88x2cs, that's not exactly the same as listed above...
I flashed slimbox pie on this box yesterday and all is more less well with the rom, but this box has no ramdisk and even though TWRP flashed successfully according to he official TWRP app i cannot boot into it.
the box tries 2 or 3 times and boots back to the system. without TWRP that i can get to there's no chance of magisk.
any thoughts or advice welcome

you need to find a firmware to flash, you can then modify it with magisk and flash it, i made a guide here on the process

thanks for the response
will this work on any rom suitable for the box ?
I'll have get YouTube to slow down the video a little so it's easier to follow what you're opening but I think I get the general unpack repack idea.
if you know of a TWRP image that's flashable via flashify or TWRP official app and that works on this box, can this technique be shortened by just patching that image pre-flash ?
I dropped back down to this boxes stock image, Slimbox couldn't keep magisk running and at random times root just stopped working. I tried Aidan's rom but the UI is not for me and there's no sideloading allowed ?? and it couldn't see my memory card anyway.
with the help of Aidan's guide above I got magisk working on the stock rom but I still have a default su binary that came with the box and has no visible root switch. if anyone knows of a way to deactivate it please share.
thanks
