[Q] Downloading and/or Installing Apps Directly to External Storage/SD-Card - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, everyone.
You know, installing Apps if you're going to run out of space storage is a hard and big problem.
One of my classmates has got a low-end Galaxy Ace. And it's ONLY Got 180 MB Space Storage. That's horribly low - but the SD-Card has still 12 GB Free.
The app has a size of 4 MB.
So, how to install apps/apks directly to the SD-Card?
I hope to get an answer. Have a nice day.

Does Anyone?
...does anybody konw?

system storage is too low!!!!!!!!

the system storage of my archos 101 is 120 mb left is there any way to expand it? because i tried to install asphalt 5 it said not enough memory......i still have a lot of free space on my internal storage around 5 gb. pls. help me..thanks.......
i before reading this also tried to search around the web for a way to re partition the internal storage but with no luck, i found something about re partitioning the memory for apps to sd but i am not sure that is what we want.
Running the latest Froyo 2.2 update? Seems to me that you can move some stuff to your SD.
That being said, Asphalt (as I recall) is about 15 MB, it would seem there's plenty of room.
This is a serious issue with the Gen8 tablets. The usable system storage, for apps, is 250 meg. This is nearly identical to the amount available on the original Moto Droid. The problem is that even with Froyo and apps2SD dalvik-cache remains on the system storage and still severely limits the amount of applications that can be installed. Hopefully Archos will hear the communities plea and re-partition the storage with a future update to allow at least 2 gig. Otherwise the usefulness of this device will be shortened, especially with the larger application limits set by Google recently. Anyone have any ideas? Will an AOSP build dual booted from the SDE firmware allow this? Thoughts, ideas?

Vibrant app memory confusion

Friends
I have searched on numerous fronts but have never found the solution to my problem. The issue is, on the vibrant I have 2 GB internal memory for app installation, with 512 mb ram (I think) to run the apps, in addition to 16 GB of internal storage for files and what not.
However, having 1.4 GB 'app' memory free currently, whenever I install any further apps, some of the existing apps start to crash/restart whenever I need to use them. For example, I use LPP, and when I install some more apps on the phone, LPP homescreen icons disappear whatever action I do (open an app, use an app, etc), and then they reload for about 15-20 seconds when I go to the homescreen again. I have about 35-55 MB RAM free at any given time.
My question is, why give 2 GB app installation memory when you still cannot use it to install apps since they start giving you all sort of problems? I am running stock t-mobile eclair and have recently rooted my phone.
you know what, i think all you need is a task killer or clean your phone or something.. just find a way to free up some space.. 35-55MB is hella low.
Hmm, whats the normal free ram for stock 2.1 vibrant supposed to be? I have not tinkered around with my phone much so am wondering how it could have gotten low to that extent. All the apps that I use are also well known and from reputable developers...
Got any clues?
dunno when i was running 2.1 i was always at 80-120 free range with apps running..
try getting a task killer and kill all running apps..
also check settings > applications > running services > tap and kill processes you dont need running
This still does not answer my question about why there is 2 GB of app memory available...? regardless of RAM..?

Yeah, but then what about what I wrote in my first post? It does not make sense if you can 'theoretically' install 2 GB worth of apps but renders the phone useless in function?
Anyone who is actually using close to 2 GB worth of memory for apps on vibrant/Galaxy S?? Would love to hear what you have to say.

[Q] Tablet application space vs I717 app space

I have a question that may or may not be a noob question. I have two tablets, a Transformer tf101, with 16gb storage, and a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, with 8GB storage. On both of those, I have noticed that internal storage is such that I have 12 GB space for installing apps on the Transformer, and 5gb for installing apps on the Galaxy Tab 2. vs only having 2GB space for installing apps on my 16GB Galaxy Note. Is it possible to repartition space on the Note so that more is available for installing apps? I have a 64GB external SD card, so pure storage is not a problem.
Thanks for any answers/comments.
Are you sure that you are looking at the note's storage space right? Mine shows as having 10.84GB of general storage which is space for everything from Applications to pictures and audio files. Can you attach a screen shot like mine below so i can get an idea of what you are seeing?
Your looking under storage, look under apps, and it will tell you that you have under internal storage at the bottom of the display, x.xGB used, and xxxMB free. It works out to about 1.92GB total for installing apps.
Bump
bonez565 is telling you exactly what you asked. Yes you have 1.92GB for installing apps. But that 10.84GB can also be used for installing apps. If you use apps2sd or the internal application manager you can move most apps to this 10.84GB space.
That actually is NOT what I am asking. Both tablets have been setup so that they show the ENTIRE space available for installing apps. Where the Note shows 1.92 GB available, under Downloaded apps, the tablets both show far more available, without using APP2SD, or the internal manager. Not tricks, other than maybe the ROMs were made such that that the partitions were setup differently, or maybe the space was made more transparent. I will upload screenshots, so you can see what I am talking about.

1st screenshot from my Note. 2nd screenshot from my Transformer, 3rd SS from my Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. All running JB 4.1.2
My Tab 2, and my Note are even running AOKP Milestone 1, yet the tablets are given way more space for installs. I am not running APP2SD, or any other storage management. BTW APP2SD does NOT like the tablets like that, and won't allow you to move them to SD. But it seems a way better solution anyway, that's why I want it on my Note.

[Q] Android miscalculates total application size internal storage

Hi I am new here..
This is really bugging me so I decided to join here. First of, I am using a Galaxy Note 8 16gb N5100. The problem is that whenever I go to Settings -> Storage, the device shows an insane miscalculation of the total Application Size in the Internal storage. As you can see in the pic attachement, it showed that it takes 60+GB of memory which is impossible since the usable internal storage of the tablet is only 9.87GB. I tried restarting the device but to no avail. In addition to that, the reported memory taken up by Applications increases (by 1 or 2 GB) whenever I restart and check the storage.
I tried removing my 64GB microsd card for the reason that it somehow mistakenly reads the sd card storage and display it the 'Internal Storage' section. Again to no avail. Also, most of my applications are stored in the Internal Storage. I don't want to do restore factory settings since I have invested a lot of documents, notes, and application data esp. On games (I have Dead Trigger 1 and 2, Plants vs Zombies 2, Iron Man 3 that are already on a higher level). As experts, what do you think is causing this problem? My software is updated using Jelly Bean 4.2.2 and after I updated it to the latest months ago, it works just fine. I just notice this problem yesterday.
I hope there is a solution to this.... Your help would mean a lot. Thanks mate!

storage space

Hi people,
Well. Without the possibility to move apps to the sd card i am trying to find other ways to make the most of my 128 gb so that i can make the system rom as light and spacey as i can.
I'm rooted and using a custom kernel at the moment. Bloatware not useful to me is being removed but still there's little improvement on the system rom space where i now have 599 mb free space left. In my noobish mind more space is a faster phone but maybe i'm wrong.... since i had phones the lack of space on the system rom always bothered me.
So maybe there are more ways to get the space free on the system rom? Somebody there in s6 world that knows something and can help? Or must i not be bothered of the system rom space?
Would appreciate it!
Thanks
Patrick
Do you have tons of music and videos saved to your phone? There is an app called SD maid that can help clean out any extra random crap you have laying around. How in the world do you fill up that much space on a phone. did you somehow mess up a partition?

Hi Phrostbite, thanks for taking time for my question.
I have no problems with the S6. It's running smooth.
the partition i did not disturb that in any way.
Don't have any music or video's on the phone.
system ram> 3.78 gb. 599mb free space
Intern storage, rom> 122gb. 119 free space
Maybe i should do more reading about how the s uses the ram in combination with the intern storage but in my humble opinion more space is better so i'm looking tot get more free space on that 3.78 gb system ram.
Getting rid of adds/bloatware does not seem to change anything/much??
Just found some tekst on ram space. It says that clearing space on ram will not give good results.
