[Q] P780 CN version, version 03/2014+, ROM and other tools - Lenovo P780

Sorry folks if this is already somewhere here but i have not found it after already a few days of browsing.
I am looking for a lightweight (dont really care if vibeui, aosp, etc), stable (daily usage), fully working ROM (no problems with led notif, compass, etc), preferably 4.4.2. KitKat for chinese version of Lenovo P780 manufactured after 03/2014 and all other tools (custom recovery etc). What is essential, that i need to repartition the internal memory for maximum space for apps.
My current is 4.2.1 P780_S136_140306 , baseband : P780.V16, 2013/07/03 17:08 , i have a dtae on battery 140410 and 2014/05 on box. From what i gather this is a new 2014 version and on this one you should use ROMs based on 4.4 KitKat ??
So far i have found only two ROMs suitable, but not all criteria are met:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-p780/development/slx-rom-lenovo-p780-t2722775 - based on 4.2 JB, so probably not working on new version ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-p780/development/alice-project-lenovo-p780-android-4-4-3-t2983584 - default memory partitioning
Any other suggestions ?
Is there any repartition script working for CN version (AromaFM working for CN version?), specifically for 03/2014+ version -- ?
So far i have found out for any flashing via SP Flash tools i need to use modified preloader http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2934284&d=1410527296 -- check
I did not found any custom recovery specifically mentioning this new version, but it looks like recoveries working ok for this new version -- ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-p780/development/recovery-multiple-recoveries-lenovo-t2962970
is there any specific version of SPFlash Tool and drivers to be used for this new version -- ? - i guess not but just to be sure, which are best to be used
Any modems to be flashed after flashing ROM (freqs in my country are GSM 900/1800, W-CDMA 1900/2100 ) -- ?
Any more thing i should be aware of ?

Hi. Did you try to OTA update your ROM? This could be the best ROM for you.
Or you can flash any rom here with flash tool, but do not forget to change preloader. For zip files there is no problem with the preloader because zip files are using the existing one.
Custom recoveryes you can find in Clarliv post i tested there one and is for China ROM VIBE UI 2.0. What can i tell: it is working.
SP Flash Tool for Lenovo P780 you will find in my post Rooting Tutorial for KITKAT. DO NOT USE OTHER.
For modems you have my post How about some modems.

OTA updates are failing on my ROM , i guess they were disabled on purpose by the seller. Tried to repartition with http://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-p780/general/p780-repartition-storage-t2668744 but its not working.
Flashed back stock rom via FlashTools and i tried SLX ROM for CN version http://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-p780/development/slx-rom-lenovo-p780-t2722775 , but it always says that the PhoneStorage/SD card is damaged and you cant install any apps.
I have also tried latest official VIBEUI 2.0 (from here http://bbs.lenovo.com/vibeui-fabu/t542102/ in chinese ). It is actually pretty good and nice (only if thay used a stock app drawer and not the one like MIUI/iOS). But it leaves even less internal storage. And it does not have GAPPS and i was unsuccesfull to install these http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942 (it said insufficient memory to install, although there was 1GB free on internal memory, propably a small system partition ??). I tried pico and nano.
-Actually if i was able to repartition for max memory and install GAPPS this will be a good option.
As for the recoveries i can confirm CWM based from Carliv's post works with this 2014 version. I will update his thread later.
I will try next the Alice project ROM.
Also i have a idea to use g00dvin's ROM http://lenovo-forums.ru/topic/6863-lenovo-p780-... for repartition and then flash official VIBEUI via recovery, if that will leave the partitions intact. And try different GAPPS if i will be able to install them
Modems will be last thing to mess with

DISCLAIMER:
*Your warranty is now void, BUT will regain if you flash back the proper stock ROM.
*What you done to your phone is at your OWN RISK, you choose to do this modifications to your phone and don't blame me if anything goes wrong.
Preface:
Hi guys, I created this topic in order to help those who has difficulty finding stock ROM's for their P780. Plus I will tell you some info some precaution before you try flashing custom ROM's. -For All You Need Thread- :victory:
**I no longer own this phone, but I will still update this thread regularly. Still a power beast though
First thing first, before you download the ROM's please give me a :good: and read through my explanation about P780 ROM's ok?
All right, so you guys know P780 have shipped with 2 version, which is China version and International (ROW) version, and the P780 can use both version of ROM's vice-versa. (Alternatively, you can flash Vibe ROM as well. Its a stock ROM from Official China Lenovo.) Well, so what's the difference between China ROM's and International ROM's?
ROM [4GB]:
China ROM release history:
Does not include majority of Google apps, such as Play Store, Play Music, Search etc, but have many China bloatwares. Includes some useful features such as volume rocker wake. And only available in English & Chinese language. Other than that, it's just as same as the ROW version.
4GB partitioned as Data 2.5GB, Media 1GB
Available Versions are:
P780_S125_130529
P780_S129_130710
P780_S308_130814
P780_S135_300917
International ROM release history:
Includes Google apps, and it's multilingual, no China bloatwares, no extra features such as volume rocker wake but still got those free apps like Camscanner etc. Other than that, it's just as same as the China version. ROW - Rest Of World
4GB partitioned as Data 2.1GB, Media 1.4GB
Available Versions are:
P780_ROW_S110_130629
P780_ROW_S116_130828
P780_ROW_S119_300913
P780_ROW_S123_131231
P780_ROW_S124_140403
Vibe ROM
China based, does not include majority of Google apps, such as Play Store, Play Music, Search etc, but have many China bloatwares. Includes some useful features such as volume rocker wake. And only available in English & Chinese language. Refined UI. Read more at post #2.
4GB partitioned as Data 2.5GB, Media 1GB
According to some sources, China and ROW version have different type of baseband file which will affect your mobile's reception signal.
Recovery [4GB]:
Please note that China and ROW uses different type recovery, flashing wrong version will causes bootloop.
China
CWM version is 6.0.2.8
CTR - CWM based version 6.0.4.4
ROW
CWM version is 6.0.1.5
TWRP version is 2.6.3.0
CTR - CWM based version 6.0.4.4

Warning: Do not flash for 4GB devices mod on 8GB devices or 8GB devices mod on 4GB devices, will causes bootloop and IMEI problems etc.
Booting Modes:
Power + Vol UP = Factory mode, which test, diagnostics, the device & phone info. (but it is in chinese)
Power + Vol DOWN = Meta mode, Mediatek specific mode, which used to perform some NAND alternative flashing process such as re-writing IMEI
Power + Vol UP + DOWN = Recovery mode.
Phone OFF + Connect USB Cable, SP flash mode.
Warning, this is really important for whom intended to flash custom ROM's, please read.
In XDA, there aren't many Custom ROM's available for our P780, but at the site needrom.com does have 10+ available ROM's at the moment, but many of it doesn't meant to flash over ROW version of base ROM, direct flashing custom ROM without changing your base ROM will result in soft-brick, which means boot-loop and the most common one is No IMEI, No baseband. This is an serious issue because No IMEI, No baseband will result your phone converted to an Android OS version of AndroidPod, because you can't make calls, SMS and data etc. If you didn't backup your IMEI and baseband before you flash custom ROM will result in PERMANENT SOFT-BRICK, the solution was to send back to service center for servicing. *Just like my phone, you wouldn't want that.
EDIT: Good news, my new discovery. Not permanent soft brick anymore, refer here if you want to revive your phone. :victory:
For current custom ROM's available on other sources please visit:
http://www.needrom.com/phone-roms/lenovo/serial-p/p780/
ALWAYS make a full backup before modding your phone, please visit here and read post #3 and follow all the steps.
Additional Backup Insurance:

Backup entire whole stock ROM using CWM/TWRP
Alright now you are assured, good luck on flashing.
For flashing a stock ROM over PC, you will need SP Flash Tool and drivers to do that, for instruction, download links for the SP Flash Tool and custom stock ROM, please visit here and give @satanduck a :good:.
Note:
@satanduck ROM's already pre-rooted, debloated and have TWRP recovery installed by default.
Rooting:
You can use Framaroot to root your phone and choose Barahir exploit. (Only works on Stock ROM)
For custom ROM such as Vibe ROM, please use vRoot to root your phone. (Works on any ROM)
If you have CWM installed, you can flash this zip. (Works on any ROM)
Repartitioning (4GB only):
Repartition to 2.5, 3, 3.5GB for /data partition.
ROW based - Link.
China based - (removed, because not working)
Battery Graph:
on stock rom, doesnt matter which stock, row/chinese based or vibe based the battery option is hidden. All you have to do is; Download Dashclock and then Dashclock Battery Extension , customize your widget on your homescreen with the battery thingie, and then just tap the battery icon on the widget, it will bring to you the stock battery app

Language Changer for China Based ROM:
*It will not change all System UI / Apps language because of some limitations.
Locale&Language : Set language Playstore removed, but I still have the *.apk.

Download Gravity Box.
Note:
Strongly NOT recommended that you do OTA updates if the phone is rooted, modded or have custom recovery. It will possibly crashes your phone and causes your phone bootloop.

AGAIN... DISCLAIMER:
*Your warranty is probably void although it is official stock custom ROM from Lenovo, because your local phone dealer might not accept those customizations.
*What you done to your phone is at your OWN RISK, you choose to do this modifications to your phone and don't blame me if anything goes wrong.
Note:
Well, from official Vibe ROM website, it claimed that you can flash directly in stock Android recovery. However, if anyone willing to try let me know whether does it work or not. Below is the method I used when I am flashing Vibe ROM. But still, it is because those are China based ROM, so if you are on International ROW ROM, I still suggest you change base before flashing.
Installing ROM:
Coming from ROW ROM proceed with 1st step.
Coming from China ROM proceed with 4th step. Make a backup if necessary.
1. Turn On USB Debugging mode (ask Uncle Google if you don’t know how to do it)
2. Backup everything with MTKDroidTools IMPORTANT, DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP! Read here post #3.
3. Flash any China based ROM S125 (Stock or @satanduck ROM) and above with SP Flash Tool (post #1)
4a. Boot into the China ROM you’ve flashed (Let the ROM at least clean boot once)
4b. OR you can skip to the 7th step in stock recovery and flash Vibe ROM, BUT it's not recommended because you probably cannot flash SuperSU zip or Gapps in the stock recovery, unless you want to have a clean, unrooted device)
4.5 (If the ROM is not rooted then you should root it first before installing MobileUncleTools
5. Install MobileUncleTools (post #1)
6. Flash CWM 6.0.2.8 (post #1)
In CWM
7. Install Vibe ROM
8. Install Gapps
9. Install SuperSU
10. Wipe data/cache (Factory Reset) and reboot. Done
*OTA updates are AVAILABLE if your phone is not rooted, modded or have custom recovery etc.
Rooting:
Framaroot DOES NOT work on Vibe ROM.
Credits to @Chainfire for the rooting solution. Thanks to him. :victory:
Note:
Strongly NOT recommended that you do OTA updates if the phone is rooted, modded or have custom recovery. It will possibly crashes your phone and causes your phone bootloop.

QUESTION:
Is Vibe ROM a stock rom provided from LENOVO because I am confused. If yes how can you get that?
Hi, nice initiative!
However I feel compelled to tell you that ROW and Chinese base has quite different partitioning layout, not just simply having different language and apps. As a result :
1) Custom recoveries are different
2) Re-partitioning tools are different
Failing to observe this may result in softbrick.
However when you flash from Flash Tool u flash also the partition layout. If you flash from recovery, some ROMs come with it (i.e. official vibe seems to) some don't.
Also worth noting before flashing any custom ROM is the factory ROM that came with the phone, if its ROW it may work better with ROW based radios, even if u do change base in the end.
Keep up the good work!

I think it's official provided for by Lenovo, because the website is from Lenovo. I am using this ROM and I found it was actually better than stock ROM that came with our Lenovo P780. This ROM was actually perfect so far I have used for 1 day, found no bugs at the moment, Radio, Dual-SIM functionality is working perfectly. See above screenshots post #2.

You can flash stock ROM via SP Flash Tool, it won't brick your phone, just make a backup incase anything goes wrong.
Why the file extension is *.7s?
Can I flash it using TWRP?

If it is @satanduck ROM's, you will have to flash it via SP Flash Tool.

Currently only the China Superuser (vRoot) works on Vibe ROM, whenever I tried to install SuperSU it will encounter fail to update binary and losses root, if anyone found a solution to change the vRoot to SuperSU I will be glad. Thanks
Framaroot DOES NOT work on Vibe ROM.

I think it's official provided for S930 and some one ported it to work on our P780 at needrom site. I am using this ROM and I found it was actually better than stock ROM that came with our Lenovo P780. Because S930 spec is almost the same as our P780 (except screen size, battery and some minor difference). This ROM was actually perfect so far I have used for 1 day, found no bugs at the moment, Radio, Dual-SIM functionality is working perfectly. See above screenshots post #2.
Probably we will receive KitKat update in the near future, but Custom Vibe ROM already works perfectly.

Nice instructions. Will probably try as soon as I have mine delivered (a couple of days more waiting).
About official vibe rom: What confuses me is the official web page w.w.viberom.com. Over there it has several lenovo models. Who supports that? (I am newbie in this so I can talk nonsense...)... I had also read somewhere that Lenovo is moving to vibe roms (I do not know what this means)
Is vibe rom power efficient as original lenovo roms (If vibe is not officilal or backed up by lenovo)
What is a bit frightening is than in your instructions (post #2) you have something about IMEI restore. So during this process do we loose IMEI's
Do you know if with VIBE roms supports 900 WCMA networks
Finally, VIBE rom is not yet at 4.4.x. Do you mean we will be updated by Lenovo or Vibe rom?
Thank you for your time!

From the website, I can confirmed it's provided by Lenovo. And I've edited post #2.
If wanna flash directly via recovery, I will suggest you will need to change to China based ROM S125 and above before flashing Vibe ROM (If you coming from International ROW ROM) and make a full backup of your stock ROM, this is because Vibe ROM is China based, no Gapps or root included by default, and have a lot of Lenovo bloatwares, but it also includes some amazing features and apps as well.
I take so many precaution with IMEI issues this is because last time I bricked my P780, so now I make a full backup in case if anything goes wrong.
Regarding about WCDMA 900MHz networks, I have no idea, probably it's hardware based limitation. If the hardware supports 900MHz networks then it should be working on 900MHz networks.
4.4 KitKat, no idea.
Thak you for the info!

So, this custom Vibe ROM is KitKat version? And the first part of your sentence referred to OTA official P780 custom ROM? (Because I notice it's 4.2.2). So, if not, is there any 4.4 custom ROM available that seems to work smoothly?

[REQUEST] custom ROM for Hisense hs-u980 ? (helpfull links included)

EDIT: For those of you who want the ROM, I've uploaded it in the thread on this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/rom-hisense-hs-u980-t3147968
hi every one
I recently got an android, it seems to be a china-android
its called Hisense, hs-u980
the detailed specs are in these links:
---------------
http://www.hisense.es/es/electronica/moviles/item/124-u980.html
http://www.dspecs.com/sp/735/Hisense-U980-Features-and-Specifications.html
---------------
the OS is old and boring 4.2.1 , I searched for a custom ROM but no luck
BUT I found THIS site, and it seems to have ROMs for it:
-----------
http://tieba.baidu.com/f?kw=海信u980&mo_device=1&pn=0&
http://tieba.baidu.com/p/3039480252?lp=5028&mo_device=1&pn=0&
http://tieba.baidu.com/p/3079914712?pn=0&
-------
but its Chinese so I don't understand a thing, even with Google translate, because I have little - but hopefully enough- experience with custom roming and rooting, and the translator messes with the words
so pleeeeease anyone help me
: D
after getting used to it and studying some roms and development stuff
i found that its not that boring afterall
actually it looks like its based on kitkat theme
but could there be Roms for it
or at least roms that work on it but for a similar device
cuz actually i think its based on some other official android phone but i dont know which one
any help would be appreciated, THX

Hi!!
Thanks for all the info but Im having some hard time finding the drivers to detect the phone on my PC.
The thing is that I read that to make a backup, I need first to use "MTK Droid Root & Tools" which would also allow me to root my phone. But that software doesn't detects my phone at all.
I connected my phone as CD drive, then it shows the drivers for it, installed but nothing changes. Device manager detects my phone.
Could you please help me a little on this? I would like to backup the whole ROM and phone before doing any risky changes and also want to backup the IMEI just in case.
Thanks in advance!
Well
Do like i did
Install FRAMAROOT from here
forum.xda-developers.com/apps/framaroot/root-framaroot-one-click-apk-to-root-t2130276
And try an exploit and it will work
As for the Recovery Mode
I think The link in a previous reply - mobile uncle - will only install a Chineese recovery mode
Would that work for doing backups? I am really more interested in being able to backup my phone than anything else.
Also, my main objetive is to repartition the phone since it comes with 2GB for apps and 6GB as storage. I would like to use that other memory to be able to install more apps since I have SD card and these 6GB are there laughing of not being used at all lol. It's verya nnoying to have so much memory and not being able to use :/

Mokee android L for z7 mini

Hi,
i was using Mokee 4.4.4 and since a few weeks I'm using Mokee 5.0.2
It is a rom like CM12 but with some customization, not as many as AOKP but still more than in CM12
It is multilangual and as stable as cm12
It was updated recently : http://www.yirom.com/rom/index/344
did someone already download it ? If yes is it possible to upload it somewhere else like mega ?
Thank you in advance
I'm running the 23/3 version of Mokee 5.02 as of a few hours. So far so good!
Does dual sim works well?
And battery consumption is similar to 4.4.4 RC7?
Did you detected any bugs?
Is it stable enough for a daily device?

i don't use 2 sim cards.
I had 1 reboot (not a wished, it was because of a crash) in nearly one month

The previous version dual SIM worked very well. I'll know if the dual SIM will work well for the new version later this week as I will be travelling.
Yes I'm using it for a daily work phone as I rely on it. Thou I have my ultra-stable iPhone 6 as my personal phone/backup :victory:
can someome upload it ?
EDIT: Someone post a mirror in other topic
I used this one : http://www.gamefront.com/files/24894999/MK50.2-nx507j-201503230233-UNOFFICIAL.zip
I think I get more spontaneous reboots with this new version than with the last version. However, it could be due to the memory leak issue all Android Lollipop phones have and isn't fixed until 5.1
Hoping to see Mokee 5.02 upgrade soon to 5.1 and integrate native dual SIM support...

This has been confirmed in several posts on some of the Chinese bbs. Apparently, someone has released a temporary fix; although, I haven't tried it yet. I agree, I'm having the same problem. Additionally, it vibrates for everything. I currently have it set to vibrate only on phone and SMS, yet it does for everything and I cannot find out how to make it stop.

but I admit this is because of my config => my phone does not vibrate and it is my xiaomi MiBand who vibrate for specific notifications
does anybody have a custom recovery that works with android 5.0 on z7 mini.
I have stock 5.0 installed and wanted to flash the newest mokee. but when i want to make a backup through the old mokee cwm, but it always says "cant mount data".I would thing thats because of the changed partitions.
Anyway, is there any (non-chinese) recovery that i can use with stock 5.0?

Here in the z7 mini rom thread on post 781 (top) is a link to TWRP 2.8.5.0. However, I don't know if the new mokee works after flashing the nubia version of 5.0 because I don't think (someone can correct me) the mokee uses unified storage yet. Can someone verify this?
Thanks, trying TWRP right now.

I did not tried it right now as i'm still discoverng this android 5 by nubia...
i just tried it 1 min and can already say that I may switch to mokee soon (I'll try the nubia rom 1 week I guess..)
the UI feels slow
I don't like the nubia theme
and beside of that, the French translation f(cuoco92 rom) is partial and canadian only (other timezone, other clock format, other keyboard layout...)
nubia's rom seems more unstable than mokee (from the first comments I read on cuoco92 facebook page)
it is also very BIG (double the size...)
If you are afraid of bricking the phone, you can also use the stupid chinese tool to install again kitkat on the phone, then install again mokee
but i guess (not sure !!!! ) that it should be possible to install mokee without doing this pain in the ass trick :/

No, you cannot. See this thread on the Nubia forum. CM12 and Mokee are still technically considered 4.4 because they do not use the unified storage. You will most likely brick the phone if you attempt to flash it. You have to first use the Nubia updater to go back to at least 1.82, then you can use CM12 or Mokee.

Installing languages/ROMs with more languages

Hello, I got a phone which doesn't have polish language. How can I install it? Do I need to flash a ROM which does have more languages? Or maybe there's none available?
Ok, so I managed to do it myself. By installing AOSP since apparently Lenovo doesn't support my language.
I was running Android 4.2.1 (ROW) with a ROM that was probably dated at 2014 (the last part of the ROM name started with "14" instead of "13"). It looked like there would be many complications but I've done it Here's how:
1. Install QuBex-ROM using Manufacturing Flash Tool (here's how - but URLs aren't working so I just googled them and downloaded them from somewhere else) and therefore upgrade to Android 4.3
2. Use K900 Unlocker to unlock bootloader.
3. Install TWRP and AOSP as described in here.
Hope it helps someone

A question about flashing roms

Hello everyone,
When you install a new rom via cwm you do not change the version of android even if in the settings you can find 5.0.2 for example, the version of android will staythe same, based on the original version of the firmware i'ts just the theme and applications that change to optimize the device, am I right?
And are there any customs firmwares that really change the version of android to flash with odin for example ?

When you install a new rom via cwm you do not change the version of android even if in the settings you can find 5.0.2 for example, the version of android will staythe same, based on the original version of the firmware i'ts just the theme and applications that change to optimize the device, am I right?
And are there any customs firmwares that really change the version of android to flash with odin for example ?

Though CWM is a good bootloader, CWM hasn't been getting the attention nor being updated by the Dev(s).
More and more individuals are turning to TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) as the preferred bootloader. They keep it up to date and provide decent support. It provides allot less problems that do arise within CWM. If you want, the link is https://twrp.me/
Just filling you in with what I've been seeing.
Peace and Love!
