Ram 680Mb / 784 + No apps Open - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I Have Restarted the phone many times still same issue
soon as i open the task manager it shows 680mb + ram being used but from setttings there are no appas open or cached processes
what shall i do ?
the phone is working really slow i have tried everything ( wipe cache , davlik )
i have important data on there no backup and i would NOT like to do a factory reset
Neat Rom Final 6.3 + Dormianx Kernel v8.4.3 ( ive been using for over 6 months now no problems have occured before this )

i seriously need help now
i managed to pull off a backup with about 100mb ram free
the i just flashed a new clean rom
totally wiped the system
and reboot into new rom and same thing 680 - 700 mb used of 780 ram
is this a case of hardware failure ? if it is then my bad
and can i just ask is there a way to clean ram stats or something like you can reset fuel gauge chip

If you are using stock then I guess that bloatware. Is running or what. Its not a hardware issue, just that apps are still running in da background

Did you factory reset and wipe cache partition first before flashing any new rom? You may have to format /system partition as there may be apps still left over from previous installations. Please respect other XDA members as we are always here to help people. If that doesn't work, use the rom nuke script. (Beware: Rom nuke script will delete everything on your phone's storage, make sure to make backups of your data onto your PC first before using the script).

Wiping before flashing custom ROMs

Hello,
I rooted my eris about a month ago and have flashed about every rom thats been on grdlock's site. But one thing I've never been quite clear on is the whole wipe process. Can someone explain the difference between the factory wipe and the dalvik wipe? For instance why should i do one or the other or both before flashing a new custom rom?

Can anybody help??
The factory wipe cleans the phones OS out, the dalvik wipe clears the cache. You don't need to know exactly what they do to know they definitely make ROMs run much cleaner when you do it, because I really dont know the specifics. I don't know how commands are programmed into DOS but I still know that the commands work...if that metaphor makes any sense.
PS - you should definitely do both before flashing a new ROM or restoring a nandroid backup
thanks taco. that helps a ton.

Sorry to let you down my friend.
factory wipe is like formating your harddrive on your computer before installing a new OS.
dalvik is a way to run multiple virtual machines where parts of the applications your running on android also run during normal operation to minimize memory and cpu usage, the cache obviously plays a part in memory usage, clearing this is like rebooting the ram on your computer to run faster.
in summary: format both and google your questions before asking them.
thanks guys. and trust me i did search all over for this but couldnt find a definitive answer. i just wanted to know for myself exactly what each "wipe-type" does, but i'll just stick with using both before i flash a new rom unless the dev instructs otherwise.

Factory wipe is not wiping the os
...factory is like restoring the os, to how it came when you first got your computer, deleting all your programs, personal files, and stuff, that you added over the life of your computer.
You got cache down though.
Hope that makes it a little more clear.

Hey guys,
So I'm planning to flash the ROM at this URL: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131217 but it requires that I "wipe" first. My rank says it all--I'm new to this stuff.
So, to the question; What should I wipe, and any tips on flashing this ROM?
Thanks,
Lacedaemon
Well, Its for a different phone, so I would say no.
First of all, Linux has a few different folders. /data is used to install all your apps and stuff, but /system is for the 0S and stuff. The /system section is restricted unless you gain root access. Anyways, /system isn't removed via factory reset, just /data. Installing a new rom, /system has files usually overwritten.... Hope that helps a little. The other folders are for cleaning up what's ever left over.

[Q] What kind of system maintenance does Android require?

Is there a kind of system maintenance routine necessary (or beneficial) to keep Android running in top condition? I've seen that permissions can be repaired via CWMod and Dalvik cache, etc, but what else should we do to maintain the system performance and stability, etc.?
well, idk if this helps, but tmobile told me to clear the user data every 2 months or so...
User data holds what?
I'm not sure I trust the "expertise" of a T-Mobile rep, but thanks for the response.
I've had one instance where the system told me that my DB data was getting too full and asked me to purge it manually. I removed some stuff and then I noticed that the DB data went down in Titanium Backup, but I don't know what that does either, or how to keep it cleaned out.
If you are plain stock not rooted, delete cache data as the previous poster said. There is not an specific amount of time for this, but if you feel your phone starts too lag more than usual
If you are rooted, and have CWM installed wipe cache partition, and in Advanced do Wipe Dalvik cache, nad if you want wipe battery stats (Do this when your battery is full once in a while so yo get better battery reads)
I need to clear out the directories for apps from my internal SD card periodically. As I install and uninstall apps I get a bunch of directories on there that I don't need. I also like to reboot every few days to a week when my phone gets laggy.

[Q] Apps Remained after a full wipe

Something strange happened to my S3 after a simple reboot I noticed that some app have been removed so I decided to clean my phone on the way.
I made a full wipe + everything you can think of to clean, delete, format the phone but after I install the rom I can still see my apps in the application manager and I can't get rid of them even if I uninstall them through the application manager the come back after a restart.
I tried 2 different roms but it happens on both of them, both are xxDLIB .
How to fix that?
pls help me

Try the SuperWipe from "Android Revolution HD" here --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797334
Be careful, this will erase everything that is not on your external SD-card. Read the instruction first.

Are the apps system apps perchance? A wipe of data WILL wipe all user installed apps, the full wipe script alluded to doesn't do anything that you can't do manually from recovery.

Sure the apps aren't part of the ROM. Depends on what the dev has cooked into it.
Sure you're doing a full wipe vs wiping caches only.
Could also be syncing to your Google account meaning when you launch play store it automatically detects your market links and reinstalls previously installed apps

CWM Recovery mounts and storage FORMAT system cache data and preload .
That fails wipe internal sd card .
jje
explanation
I think I didn't explained my self right, these apps are "user" apps downloaded from Play store.
things I did before installing the rom:
1. factory reset from setting.
from cwm:
2. wipe data/factory reset
3. wipe cache partition
4. wipe dalvik-cache
5. wipe battery stats
5. format /cache
/system
/data
/preload
/sdcard
* also I removed the external sd.
but still I have these app "ghosts"
Then i suggest as per previous replies to the same question you are auto downloading from Google play after installing a rom .

I disabled wifi/data and sync when it ask for a wifi connection (at the openning screen of the new rom) so there is no way it somehow sync with play store.
you can see below what I mean by saying "ghosts"

Clean Rom Install
Many people don't exactly know what a Data Wipe / Factory reset is. NO it does not delete "all" your data on Internal SD-Card. It Deletes all you user data and settings and stuff, like it says it formats "system". For Example if you Full wipe you loose Whatsapp, but the Whatsapp folder on your internal SD-Card remains untouched, that means you can restore your Conversations with ease. This means you can cause a huge mess on your internal SD-Card over time. This is my way how to do a CLEAN install. Doing this prevents many unwanted issues like Bootloops, FC's and all those other nasty laggy ****.
1. Put new rom on EXTERNAL SD Card (if slot available)
2. Data Wipe / Factory Reset
3. Wipe Cache
4. Wipe Dalvik Cache
5. Format Internal SD card
6. Install Rom and enjoy
Keeping your personal Data on your external SD-Card is a good idea (pics, music, vids , docs ...)
[You can do this even if you don't have an ext. SD-Slot. After "cleaning" your device mount USB-Storage in CWM Recoery and you can connect to pc and pull over your rom. ]
And this is probably one of the best ways to do a clean install without aditional Scripts like superwipe or other "flashy" stuff. (DO NOT USE THOSE SCRIPTS UNLESS THEY ARE IN AN INSTALLATION GUIDE)
One addition to above format/preload as well .

[Q] high power conception after rooting

after towleroot, i ran into a couple of problems that pushed me to unroot -by flashing an offical ftf- but since then, my phones screen started to consume power ...ALOT !! like 51% of the power
did i unroot the phone wrong ?
do i have to factory reset ?
i also i have to mention that i deleted the permissions.xml file once , that is why i flashed a stock rom .
If you are unsure, just reflash a stock FTF, performing a full wipe. Then take it from there.

No, root is root. Once you have rooted, you uninstall the Towelroot app. Being rooted won't make a single bit of difference to battery usage. That is in 99.99% of all cases down to an app that a user has installed, or sometimes a change to a system file or setting that a user has made after s/he rooted their device.
Wiping data as you say removes your stored data (contacts etc), installed apps (from the Play Store etc) and sets up the phone as it was when you turned it on for the first time.
It might be worth backing up any pictures or music you have on the internal sdcard, but the external sdcard won't be touched.

I have Samsung Note 9 Model N960F 500 GB Android 9 Dr Ketan Rom Version 15 PIE, everything was fine suddenly someone noticed my EDxposed was old and told me to update it because i can't create Snapchat account
then i downloaded the new apk version and flashed 2 files with Magisk one is Riru i guess i don't remember and the second one under Alpha menu contains YAfa something, and then i restarted the phone and it was stick on Samsung logo
like always if i have any issue i flash Dr ketan rom again over the old one and issues gone but this time No, I'm stick with Samsung logo
I tried to go back to Dr ketan rom PIE from version 15 to 13 and 11 and to Stock ROM android Oreo 7 and to Dr ketan android 10 ROM_Q02 but i face always one of these issues
1- stick on Samsung logo or 2- boot loop or 3- Message says "Verification Failed unable to restart your device. The integrity verification has failed, you need to reset your device to factory default settings, This will erase all your data. But i skipped this because i don't want to lose my data!

i tried to wipe system, data, Cache, Davlik and also the same issue
i flashed some files also such as Magisk unistaller, ed exposed unistaller and magisk unimod but no luck

if i flash Stock rom Android pie with all 4 parts with HOME CSC i see my total phone storage 32GB and not 500GB and the phone starts but no data
I noticed before if i update my magisk from 17 for example to 19 or higher and it was not supported by Dr ketan Rom, the phone stick on Samsung logo and if i flash the same magisk again the phone starts OK without issue
I didn't use the CSC file till now to avoid deleting my data
i tried some android recovery software such as dr.fone and FonePaw for Android and FoneLab for Android but they all don't have Galaxy note 9, the maximum they have old versions Galaxy note 4 or Samsung s7 and also they require root to read the files if the phone is working, and i tried others but without luck!

I see little hope for you to recovery the data using some kind of data recovery software, as your phone doesn't boot and you wiped it multiple times.
Due to that, you will most likely have to do what vishnu vijay said. If there is no data recovery shop near you, you will have to send it to one. Sadly, it won't be cheap and there is no guarantee they will be successful.
Remember, the more you alter your phone's memory, the lower the chance of recovering your data.
