Apps to external storage - Nexus Player Accessories

Anyone able to move apps to external storage. I have a 240gb ssd hooked up using stickmount. I only tried link2sd and didn't work. Said something about a linked storage.

Take a look at my starter guide HERE, you need FolderMount.

GOTCHA - u want to play huge games thats why u need OC and all that
since Froyo, user apps can be moved to external SD - go Settings - Manage applications and click on the app u want to move. in the next screen u'll see app details and u have a big button "Move to USB storage".
p.s. hit the thanks button also if u say "thanks all..."

You do not want to move all apps to SD... the ones that cannot be moved are greyed out so you can't move them... These apps, I suppose, are designed to run from your phone memory and cannot be moved.
You can try App2SD app but I recommend leaving those apps alone. But if you decide to force move them, do not move the apps with widgets as moving them will break the widgets.
never used such an app im afraid. im sure there are many, search the markets.
i find it odd that an app of the size u mention comes without the possibility to install or move to external sd.
in any case, i recall i saw somewhere thread or posts about using ADB shell to change a system parameter which makes all apps to be installed on SD card instead of phone internal sd.

These game apps, from my experience, do install the game related files to the internal sd card... not the phone memory... I think the OP is concerned about the fact that since these players only come with 8GB to start with with about 4GB available to users as internal sd, taking 700MB of that leaves little space for everything else... the thing is... external cards are removable... and the game would not function without these files... so that is probably why they are installed on the internal sdcard and not the ex_sdcard... maybe... someone correct me if I am wrong...

it comes with SuperOneClick and its part of Android SDK. do some research first. ADB shell isnt an app or such.

Moving apps to SD

On Android you have the option of moving the apps to the SD card which will obviously create more internal memory.
But are there any disadvantages in this, will it slow the apps/phone down?
Well, that is a good question
The APPS may work a bit slow - it depends on the class (quality class) of your SD card - if u have a fast one it won't be visible and u won't notice the apps are on your SD.
I don't know the exact SD card class numbers - i suggest googling it never did pay attention on it, because it wasnt my #1 priority
Hope i have helped
Cheers.
Thanks, any other views on this topic?
The class of the SD card is a measure for bandwidth, I don't think android apps require a lot of bandwidth, moreover when you have opened an app it will be stored in the internal RAM, so at that point it shouldn't be an issue anymore. Of course, opening an app can be slower, but I think that access time is a larger bottleneck than the read/write speed in that case. Personally I never noticed it.
for some reason some of the apps are a little more buggy when they are on the SD so just try it and see if it works well for you. If it does there is so big downside of having it on there
Stumbled across this thread. Figured I'd share some info. First off some info on A2SD. Since it would take a lot of space I'll give you some links. You can look HERE for info on what A2SD is, and how it works. You can also check THIS thread for Darktremor's A2SD Beta info. Then there's A2SDGUI (GUI for Darktremor A2SD) which looks interesting. Here is some great information on SD Cards, how they work, and the Classes. Hope that helps shed some light on things .

There A2SD EXT methods, i was asking about the native Android move to SD option.
I havent got any problems with any apps whenever I move them to the SD Card. I havent moven apps which doesn't allow me to put it on the SD Card. But if you do move an app onto the SD Card, widgets for that app won't work unless the developers released an widget app for that app. For example, I moved Evernote to the SD Card and I couldn't use the widgets but the developers released another app which allowed me to use the widgets.
Hope this helps

Yes. Longer start up and shut down times because the apps on the sd card has to be monted and unmounted respectively on each boot.

APP 2 SD problem

Hi can someone please help me out.
i have just inserted a new sd card in my phone,
ive already transferd a few files to it so i no its working.
well im using the application app 2 sd to move apps , well i have apps that it says can be moved but when i click on them there is no option for sd card and also i get a message saying: the device does not have a real primary external storage, or primary external storage is emulated
can someone help me please
anyone? :/
Could be a copy sdcard card, loads kickin around from China
Also why u need a2sd don't u have enough on phone storage?
No it's proper sand disk I think from ebuyer, well I have about 10 apps and I have around 250-300mb left just wanted to free some up as when I install n.o.v.a 3 it's like 2.gb and that installs to whine storage aswell not sd. I think I've read that none if the apps to sd work yet for sgs3 :/

There's plenty of open topics about this. Search for them.
Basically Samsung intended the internal, external cards and dropbox to work as one big storage for all apps, app data and user files... or something like that.
So they disabled the Move To SD option in the app manager. Unfortunately it doesn't quite work like they intended and the external SD is practically useless as most apps (99%) can't read or write to it.
I'm reading around now to see if anything new happened but it's looking grim.
This thread should be closed.
Any updates on this? I still want to move my App Data to the external SD card. In this way my new SGS3 is even worse than my Galaxy Y -.-
as far as I know it does not work with S3. maybe an update coming soon

I'm just hoping for a custom Rom with App moving, UMS mode and fixed user dictionary so I'm not having to patch up the f**k ups that Samsung made and have it all built in like it should be.

bump. having same issue.

App data to external SD?

I saw a thread somewhere yesterday with instructions on how to partition the external sd so we could move apps or app data (like large game data downloads) to it. Now that I have some time, I can't find it. Anyone know how we can accomplish this?
I think that it was with an app in the play store called 'foldermount'
Thanks, with that, I found it. I think I might just hold off until I see a method here on XDA that is tested though. I haven't had a phone with this little internal storage since the OG droid. I've been a little spoiled. I think once I get an AOSP rom on here, it won't matter as much.

factory app 2 sd on me7

Doesn't work for crap? Is it just me? Do I need to reflash it? I have the rooted version that's available and when I move something to the sd, it movies basically just the apk and says it moves the data yet the data stays on the internal SD

The integration will move the apk.
An app that is 100mb in size will free 100mb of space and move that application to the sd card.
An app that is 50mb for the apk and upon opening you are prompted with a 1gb data downoad will only free 50mb of space when you move it. Any external data downloads are not moved.

Spotify stores data on the external. The app has to support it. Most apps moved away from doing it because apps 2 sd hasnt been used since gingerbread.

Symlinks are a pretty easy way to throw data on the sdcard. If you're looking for a GUI though check out folder mount.
