1: no unlocking required if you use the locked bootloader variant. Sometimes Sony repair centers can throw a fit when they discover root on their phones, but usually it means they just reflash (and wipe!) your mobile and see if that fixes the issues. If it doesn't they will most likely fix the issues but charge you a examination fee for the need to flash and wipe your mobile. That's how I understand it but can vary across various regions.
2: OTA updates fail most of the time, but you can probably find recovery flashable update packages or you can create your own..

I do not understand the sense of the dual-recovery. I think one is enough

Not working on SGP621 with installer method.

Here's the output of command screen.
hope for the solutions....

You can use TWRP on your Z3tc full screen.
for ex.
go to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/themes/theme-twrp-materialised-dark-light-play-t2915584
1.Download TWRP theme for 1200x1920 of your choice and rename it to "ui.zip".
2.On SD card (if device has internal and external storage, use the internal) open TWRP folder and create a folder called "theme", without capital letters.
3.Copy ui.zip to theme folder.
4.Restart to recovery.
TWRP opening is wrong, but after can use full screen!

Hi,
will this recovery work with cm12?
Gesendet von meinem Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact LTE mit Tapatalk

Just wanted to ask if this will work on SGP 612 soon, or if it may work and is just untested.

Back-light
Thank you Nut
I updated to XZDR 2.8.2.
But, can not control Back-light brightness on TWRP.

Is there a working TWRP for the z3tc with cm12.1?

SGP612
I installed it on mine and it booted into it first time. However, it took me a couple of tries to get back to the tablet itself, I have not yet managed to get it to go back into TWRP - the green light is on for a split second - perhaps I am just missing it or perhaps it will need to be installed again...

Hello! I have a SGP611 and I installed XZDualRecovery on it. Everything works fine except one thing. When I try to flash the official CM 12.1 made for my device, scorpion windy, it says that I actually have a scorpion device and that I need a ROM for that device. I am pretty sure that my device is scorpion windy so that means that I installed XZDualRecovery made for scorpion. Is there a variant of XZDualRecovery made for windy? or can I install a scorpion ROM on scorpion windy without issue?
Thank you for your time!

Thanks for the answer but I still think that the recovery is the problem. You see, using this recovery I managed to install the scorpion windy ROM without issue.

OK, so say this in the thread. I got those answers, as you've seen in the official thread, but maybe you'll get better.
And is this Advanced stock kernel the newest one? I wouldn't flash a kernel if I'm unsure it's for the fw I'm using...
EDIT: as I said: Last Updated 2014-12-02

You are right about the kernel. Now I see that it is actually made for an older firmware. Is there any way to return to lollipop stock kernel without loosing the ROM that I have now (CM 12.1 nightly)? Or does installing a custom ROM bring a new kernel by itself?
Also where should I post my problem with the recovery so that it has higher chances to reach the dev? XZDualRecovery has a ton of threads.

Years ago I had a Tablet Z from Sony. I sold it right away, as I couldn't find any mods for it. It was like Fort Knox - locked down.
It was time when I wanted to cook roms, flash, make mods, root etc.... I got Nexus 7.
But recently, I'm not into modding anymore, and buying Z3 Compact Tablet was a way to prevent myself from flashing - I was aware there is no modding community around Sony Tablets(..almost none). It's enough for me I have root, and recovery. But as I was a flashoholic, this tablet is perfect to keep away from the addiction
So, why I'm saying this? Change the device if you want to get full taste of modding., cm, custom kernels and so on..
Stay with Sony if you wanna stay stock.
Rgds,

keeps rebooting (sprint version)
I'm at a loss. Since unlocking my bootloader, flashing TWRP and installing CM11, this is the second Sense rom that doesn't work for me. (unlocked bootloader, s-on, Sprint HTC One Max)
Just as with Adrenaline, I'm able to successfully flash the rom in TWRP and it boots to the HTC setup menu. But shortly thereafter the phone reboots. After that it seems to reboot every 90 seconds. I can't reflash Cm11 without a problem. But as soon as I flash this or Adrenaline the reboot problem reoccurs. Anyone know what I'm ****ing up?

I sent you a PM, but figured I would also respond here. Make sure that the version of TWRP that you are using is from Fly's thread here on XDA:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2498746
If you are using TWRP from Fly's thread, make sure you are not wiping System when flashing the ROM since this is done automatically.
Hope this helps you.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
I've tried both 2.8.0.1 and 2.8.1.0 from that thread you linked. I have followed the instructions in your OP. I only do the swipe to wipe, I don't do any advanced wiping. I think I'm missing something somewhere. The phone starts fine and boots into Android. Once I'm there it reboots after a minute or so. What could cause such an issue?
CM11 flashes perfectly fine and works too except for the lack of Spark and the Wifi profile reset. This is really strange.

Hmm I don't think so. All I did was unlock the bootloader on HTC's website. Then I followed Cyanogen's instructions to put CM11 on there. After I was dissatisfied with the LTE/Wifi issues I tried flashing the Adrenaline rom. When that didn't work I tried yours.
I should mention that I did buy this phone earlier this year on ebay. Supposedly new. Is there a way to find out if the previous owner did flash a different kernel?

I would suspect this to be your problem. After you did your initial flash of TWRP, you created a backup of your phone and saved it...correct?
I am on your sprint version on the ROM and love it. It has been my daily driver for a while but i have one problem.m I have not been able to get LTE to allow me to use wifi tethering at all.. every time I try the LTE signal comes and goes and never stays connected so i can only use 3g which isnt all that bad when i have a good signal, but when I know LTE is available to use itnwould be nice to get full speed from my phone.
I hope this ROM may come to International GSM model too.. :good::good::good:

Hey I just wanted to let you know that I solved my problem in case someone else experiences the same issue. The problem ended up being the SuperSU included in the rom. It was causing the 60/90 second reboot. As soon as I let it update the binaries the reboots stopped.
thanks for all tbe help.

Xperia Z Ultra GPE 5.0 update
My first install of the OTA update resulted in an error, so I did some research and found out that my phone can't be rooted. So after unrooting through superuser and doing a factory reset, i finally received the OTA update again today, yet i still get the same error. The phone will reboot to install the update and the status bar will stop and the screen will show the android on his back and say error, then i have to force shutdown to boot my phone back up.
So I started out with a Galaxy S4. Which was easy to do anything and everything with a simple Google (GOOGLE FAHTAGAN!!!!) search. Now I have a Sony Z Ultra GPE, and I love it, but doing things is exceedingly more difficult due to its relative obscurity. Also, I am a truck driver. I work at night hauling 2 28" trailers for FedEx, so I am a dabbler not an expert by any means. My one great skill is I can follow directions! So, the groundwork having been laid:
Is there a step by step thread someplace on how I can gain root access? I have Android Lollipop 5.0 on my Sony Xperia Z Ultra GPE. I just want to fix the sdcard thingy and make the Archer Pirate Virus my loading animation. :fingers-crossed::good:

If you are on 5 already and haven't rooted and backed up the TA partition on 4.4.4 the you are buggered if you want to keep a working camera
So, yes I had rooted 4.4.4. I unrooted, backed up my TA partition, the used ADB to sideload stock 5.0. So now my question is how do I reroot? So far I've used Geohot's towelroot. So what do I do now?

Unlock the bootloader if it is locked (you didn't have to restore the TA/lock the bootloader to OTA to 5.0)
then either
Hotboot DooMLoRD's V2 kernel [fastboot boot <path_to_boot.img>]
Boot into temp recovery
Flash superSU from recovery
or
Fastboot DooMLoRD's rooted system/boot/etc .img in the dev section (I've not tested this)
[fastboot flash <partition_name> <partition.img>]
I hope that makes sense
5.1

Thanks for the guide, although was my first time working on a SONY device as I was samsung user, it was pieace of cake, I just noticed as it's mentioned below that in my device D6503 it is needed to wipe applogs/data/system when flashing .314, maybe u can add a note in the thread for future users on that step, once again thanks for the great help
Adding TWRP recovery won't work
I'm following the guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/development/stock-d6502-6503-23-1-1-28-complete-t3104145
but I'm running .28 already but when I try to add recovery mode from TWRP I always get the error telling me only PIE is supported (I am beyond new to this, just started researching last night and started working today). I follow the guide exactly as it told me to but I still can't get the recovery to work.
I have an Xperia Z2 running LP 5.0.2 with AT&T as my carrier.
please i have just one question does the downgrade affect the phone badly?? like loosing the imei of the phone or camera not working or the signal not working?

If you are on non lollipop version, better wipe appslog, cache & data. And, its a stock rom. So, whatever sony added/removed will stay untouched. Bootloader will be remain locked. And yes, Xreality works.

excuse me for my bad english.
Anyone have any problems with their facebook contact pics in the contacts app being blurry? Got it only after I upgrading and resetting my phone to this firmware.
any idea about my questions?
Why not just upgrade using PC companion? Your data will not be lost too, but you can back up just in case. After which, you can follow the thread here to root .28 firmware.

Battery is charging slowly
Hi i used this Rom over the .314 4.4.2 Kitkat without wiping the data - only dalvik cache, everything is normal exept the high usage of Android OS draining the battery (im using v 27 of Facebook app - without messanger and viber 5.2.1 - tha last version not showing the names of the contacts you dont have in contacts list). And When i plug the AC charger (im using the original cable and charger) - when i use something heavy - it shows that the battery is draining faster than it charges. Is there any fix or patch for this?
Thanks in advance

just smashed my oneplus one so the other half has gave me her z2,
managed to root it on 4.4.4 and have Clockwork Recovery,
it so much more difficult to flash roms...
basically im looking for a rom with good battery life and good camera mods,
can some one just give me the heads up, do i still need to downgrade to 4.4.2 do i need to install dual recovery
and any tips on roms
cheers
based on what you wrote i'm assuming to rooted through unlocking your bootloader, which has voided your warranty and resulted in losing your DRM keys, now you don't have to downgrade for anything. that is required if you don't have a rooted phone and need to root without unlocking bootloader.
now you can simply flash any new rom. there are multiple choices, but only two lollipop roms available right now based on stock, Existez Y and Moonwalker Provolution, both are available in development section. personally i'm using Existenz Y as the black design in Provolution was not exactly my cup of tea, and it has some terrific options as ambient display and changing navbar size inbuilt without the need of xposed. otherwise there are multiple AOSP and CM based ROMS available in both development and orig development section. for flashing steps please read them on OP of each rom, and go through the threads properly before asking for them in new posts or threads.
thank you very much for writing back to me , yes i have unlocked the bootloader ,
reading Exstez topic it mentions about flashing latest firmware and adding dual recovery?
just checked Moonwalkers
You Must To Be Sure You Are On Firmware .726[LP] Or .28[LP]

That is required if you are on LB and have dual recovery. i dont think if you have unlocked bootloader you need dual recovery. you can use normal recovery to flash. anyway dual recovery is available for UB also so you can use that. provides you with more option and i personally prefer that.

Yes for moonwalker its recommended that you come from LP base. but i'm not sure how you can go back to stock after unlocking your BL. can't flash stock FTF normally as it might brick the device. might want to check sticky threads for getting to LP on unlocked bootloader. creating a prerooted firmware might help you in that. since i have a locked BL dont really know a lot about that part.
Just a heads up, since you unlocked your boot Loader the camera low light performance will be significantly bad and other Sony exclusive apps might not work. Hopefully you backed up TA partition.

I could not find the
GSI "Starter Pack" (From Google) from this link.
Could you please be more specific and tell us which GSI will work (Android 12, 11, or 10, and ARM64+GMS, ARM64, x86_64+GMS, or x86_64.). Thanks.
I want to unlock my bootloader and root my 3 iii but I have read something about needing to back up and restore DRM keys otherweise some camera features and other stuff wont work anymore. Is that something that needs to be done on this phone and also, what exactly is the GSI stuff? It looks like that is an entire rom or something. Do we need to flash/install that? I am fine with the stock firmware. Im out of my element with this Sony stuff.

Hey, the "Starter Pack" is just another Name for the Google Zip which includes GSI and vbmeta. We are on ARM64 and GMS means GApps are included. Please read a bit about how Treble and GSIs are working and start from there. x86_64 btw. is the Dekstop Platform (Like Intel or AMD PCs). Basic knowledge
Don't want to make this an Info/Wiki Thread or so...

That Informations are old and obsolete. Hardware works just fine after unlocking (On all Xperias since 2019), DRMs can be restored like i wrote in the Guide. We are using OLED HDR Displays. So don't care about Bravia or such stuff. Only Netflix and Video Enhancements aside from the Creator Mode are not working if unlocked. But AOSP is here and ROMs are also coming based on SODP and AOSP (With Mainline Kernels (Or GKI)) Please also read about Treble and GSIs before You start! It's a thing since Android 8 on all Android Devices. So it will be good to know! GKIs are also coming to all Android Devices soon...
How can I convert Xperia 1 IIi Docomo SO-51b to Global version?
You can try to use another (EU/US) Firmware with NewFlasher but no warranty that it will work @nchmaster
You should check the Basebands compatibility before so make sure You're flashing a Firmware that works with Your Countries Bands.

No it isn't. That's why I am asking. I got my Xperia 1 iii a few weeks ago (before this tutorial) and did the exact same steps but without the GSI thing and everything works fine.

Perfect. I tried to ask that before and was just told to read up on GSI. That wasnt any real help to my question. lol I was looking it over and it looked like it was a really vanilla version of android more less for app developers so I was c onfused if it was in fact needed to simply root the phone.

I asked what it was exactly and do we need to install it for the root process. By the way, it is not needed for the rooting process. I have successfully rooted the phone so thank you for the tutorial.
Just a suggestion, you should maybe add that after you flash the edited boot image to A and B and you reboot the phone, you will have to reinstall Magisk just to save some possible confusion as its no longer installed from being wiped during the bootloader unlock process.

Hi sorry I'm still confused, could you copy over name of the exact zip you are saying we should download?

Which one is the "starter" pack.

The "starter" pack is just another name for either gsi_gms_arm64-...zip or aosp_arm64-...zip. If you want Google apps then you choose gsi_gms_arm64-...zip, if you do not want Google apps then choose aosp_arm64-...zip. Both of these zip files contain only the system.img and vbmeta.img.

Sorry I guess I'm a bit new to this, the phone will still be running a version of the stock rom after this guide with an unlocked bootloader and magisk right?

GSI means General System Image. Systems are the Main OS You are using. Flash a GSI and it isn't Stock anymore... Don't replace the System If You want to keep Stock!
