Access to Windows shared folder in Sony Album App - Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

Hi all,
Is it somehow possible to access a shared folder under Windows 7 using the Sony Z3 tablet? For example a very large folder with a lot of family pictures which is right now on my Desktop pc.
There is an option in the official Sony Album App when clicking on the three bars in the upper left corner in the Sony Album app and then there is sth called Devices. But the device does not find the computer even though both devices share the same network.
It should be possible somehow, shouldn't it? Don't want to buy a large SD card to duplicate all the pictures.
Many thanks in advance for your answers!

I can see the shared folders from my NAS in the devices.
You could try to mount your Win 7 shared folders manually to the Sonys local file system:

Settings > Storage > Shared folders
(I'm not sure, how this settings are called in English)

How to use the HTC 7 Mozart as a USB drive

hi
I found this guide on the internet. I might by useful for your....
In this guide, we show you how to tweak your registry so that your computer recognizes the HTC 7 Mozart as a removable USB drive. You'll only have access to the Music, Pictures and Videos folders, but those are the most important folders anyway when it comes to moving big files.
1. Open Windows Registry Editor by typing regedit in your start menu
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB
3. Perform a search for ZuneDriver
1. The search should yield a result similar to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB\VID_045E&PID_04EC&MI_00\6&27ffd631&0&0000\Device Parameters\WUDF
4. Click up one level to the Device Parameters key
5. Change ShowInShell from 0 to 1
6. Change PortableDeviceNameSpaceExcludeFromShell from 1 to 0
7. Change EnableLegacySupport from 0 to 1
8. Change EnableDefaultAutoPlaySupport
That's it! You can now plug your HTC 7 Mozart into your Windows PC using the supplied USB cable and it will be recognized as a USB drive.
regards.
Thanks, would it be possible to use this method to locate the ringtone folder.
Hi, didn't work on my Windows 7 (32 bit) ?
what value should I change in "8. Change EnableDefaultAutoPlaySupport
"?
thanks.
To nothing don´t change
Close zune and then conect usb cable and will apear 2 icons of multimedia, inside is harddrive but only acess 4 folders and ringtone its not one of them but its a good thing
Has anyone else got this to work?
Ive changed my registery settings and when i connect the device i can see 2 (not sure why its there twice!) Mozart 7 devices with the label 'portable media player' underneath them.
However when i click into them it shows nothing? Any ideas?
Thanks!
Thanks ! it works perfect.. on my windows 7 32 bit OS.
it didn't work for me. will try some other time though.
it works.................confirmed
where exactly we'll see two icons? in windows explorer alongwith c and d drives? may be i m missing something.
Can see as USB but nothing to do with, that means nothing
For those who can see 2 empty instances of HTC 7 Mozart, I have copied the below quote from this thread in the HTC Surround section:

If you make those changes only, your Windows Phone will appear twice under portable devices. There are a couple more changes you should make to the registry - one of them is to fix this (don't remember which one):
Under Device Parameters, you should see two sub-folders: one is called WUDF and the other is ZuneDriver.
1) Under WUDF, you will find a key called Exclusive - change the value of this key from 1 to 0.
2) Under ZuneDriver, you will find a key called UseWpdPrivateInterface - change the value of this key from 1 to 0, as well.
Now you should see only one occurrence of your Windows Phone in the Portable Devices section.
Don't forget to close the Zune software if it opens when you connect your phone.

I can confirm this works and if the OP could edit these into his post I would be most grateful.

usb driver htc mozart
hi all,
could you please help me with usb driver for htc mozart, i see everything till USB and after that i cannot see neither Zunedriver or WUDF, is there any other ways to find out?
thank you
In order to see all the files, your phone has to be on welcome screen, when you open photos or music and videos, that's the end of it, you have to reconnect again.

tq its work
Excellent hack! Works great...
But, you must have followed BOTH sets of instructions by slyk2203 and meegulthwarp. Windows exployer also only showed the media folders when I had the Zune app open on the device (not on the PC) and also only when there were existing files in each part. I.e... load a music track, picture and a video file with zune beforehand.
Now interestingly I have noticed that Zune downsamples any video clips that you drag onto the device. Even perfectly suitable .wmv files are re-encoded to a lower resolution. Now though, thanks to this hack, I can copy high res .wmv files onto my device. What's more they play back beautifully!

Possible ? Changing location of synced PDA My Documents folder in XP

I want to change the location of syncronized PDA files folder on the netbook from a folder under My Documents to a different drive. I do not want to move the computer's My Documents though, merely to change the location of "PDA My Documents". Is it possible ?

On computer.
Let me explain the situation here.
There are some files on my phone that I want to keep secure (the financial application data, some excel spreadsheets, a file with all the passwords etc). All of these files are encrypted in their respective applications, plus I always have the phone on me.
I am syncing to the netbook - not the desktop pc. I travel a lot with this netbook and unlike the phone it's not with me at all times, I leave it in hotel rooms etc. If it ever gets stolen, I don't want some of my sensitive files getting into the wrong hands. I have a TrueCrypt container that is mounted on logon as a separate drive (X), and that's where I keep the sensitive info like financial data etc. Unfortunately the files synced from phone go to the C drive by default. Of course I could move the entire My Docs to X but I don't want to keep huge directories like Downloads and My Pictures in an encrypted container. I can still move My Docs to container and keep Downloads and photos separately but this is kind of a messy setup in XP - in W7 this would be easier done via Libraries. So before I do that I want to see if there's a way to just sync my phone to a directory on X drive.

[Q] Gallery App question.

Hey there,
So i am new to the forums and to the Android world in general, just to get that out of the way .
Well i just copied some of the pictures from my PC to the Phone, but when i use the original Gallery App, it doesnt show the photos in the way i ordered them, meaning;
i have put the images according to my own ordering system into folders
ex; Images > Cars , then inside cars , Audi, BMW ,
Images > Nature , then inside that, Animals, Forest .... etc
when i open it in the gallery app, it shows each folder individually, meaning it brings all the folders (Audi, BMW, Animals, Forest) but doesnt put it in the way i put it on the phone, or the way it is stored if i check the files using a filemanager.
So is this normal, and there is no way to fix it? or perhaps there is another Gallery App that wont do that or so?
hope i could get my msg through.
Thanks for the help in advanced.

Windows 7 default folder view for "portable media players"

This is technically a Win7 question, but much related to Android. On my older Android devices, when connected to PC via USB for file transfer, they would "mount" the SD card as a standard disk drive within Windows. On my newer Android devices, however, they instead connect the device to Windows as a "portable media player." This is fine, except for one thing which really irks me. Every time the portable media player director structure comes up, it is displayed as giant icons. If I change it to "list" or "detail" view within Windows, there are two big problems:
- it doesn't stick (i.e. I'll reconnect later and it will be back to giant icon view)
- it doesn't apply recursively to all subfolders
With regular Win7 file explorer (i.e. for disk drives), it is really easy to set a default folder view for all disk drives on the whole system, and it will stick forever, and apply to all subfolders on every drive. Is it possible to do the same thing with portable media players? It does not seem so, and it is driving me crazy. :-/
Thanks in advance for any ideas.

[Q] PC as media server - how to do..

Hi everyone!
I am trying to work out how to use my PC as a media server with my Xperia Tablet Z2 and can't seem to work it out.
I have googled, but seem to be missing something. I need to go out for now, but will try again to understand how to do this and post back here later with the steps that I tried.
If anyone has any advice, it will be much appreciated!
Ofiaich
The magic word is DLNA.
Any DLNA media server will do:
- twonky
- plex.tv
- XBMC
- https://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/
- more
Hi ranf,
thanks, I know I need to be checking out DLNA but still no success to pair the Xperia Z2 tablet with the PC.
I can see on the tablet in settings, media server settings, and if I enter that sub-menu, I can see SGP512 and Share media shows I am connected to my home network.. - Your media is available on "my home network" network.
But the PENDING DEVICES and REGISTERED DEVICES are empty.
So I am wondering how to pair or add a device?
In Windows 8.1 control panel, Homegroup Sharing Options I can see my Xperia Tablet Z2 is there in the list.
off to search more but any advice welcomed,
Ofiaich
I suggest the following:
In Windows:
Right click the media folder you want to share
Go to Share with... > Specific people
Add 'Everyone' with permission 'Read'
On your tablet:
Install Root Explorer
Open Root Explorer and open a new Network (SMB) tab
Navigate to your PC
Touch and media file to open it
This doesn't need anything special and it works with files other than just media files.
Hi Ofiaich
don't mix up client and server side.
If you want to use your tablet as client pick:
- Album app for photos
- Movies app for videos
- Walkman app for music
Thanks Ricky D and ranf,
Ricky D, what Root Explorer do you use? I have a ES File Explorer that has a root explorer in it's menus but it seems not to work on the Z2.

I suggest Root Explorer not because it is a root explorer but because it allows streaming of SMB file shares without needing to download the file to a local folder first.
Root. Explorer by Speed Software? Costs £3.00? Not worried on cost, just want to get the correct one!

I think Explorer by Speed Software is the same but without the root access, and it's free.
Installed Explorer and added a Network SMB tab. I then get a box with name, domain, server, user-id and password!
Pressing Scan doesn't find servers! I'm not sure what to add to the fields!

I simply use Bubbleupnp from the play store to Stream audio/Video from my PC to the WDTV. On the Windows PC I have installiert Tversity media Server as DLNA Server. Done!
To Stream YouTube etc. to the WDTV, I use sempervidlinks from the play store.
For Deezer etc. The Xposed-Module from bubbleupnp can be used.
OT: I hate typing longer texts with the touch screen @Sony: Just release the BKC50!
Thanks BabelHuber!
I will check out these tomorrow!!
I still cannot understand why I cannot connect to my PC using Z2 > Settings > Xperia Connectivity > Media Server Settings!
I can't understand why no devices are recognised...

Update !
I can see the Sony Xperia Z2 on my Sony Smart TV now and play photo's, music and videos from the Z2 to the Smart TV! <--- sorted
I can see the PC in media on the Sony Xperia Z2 and the Sony TV but I cannot load any content to the Z2 or the Smart TV.
On the PC, I can see both the Z2 and Smart TV in control panel home group and have attached a picture.
On the PC's Media Player, I can see photo, music and video content, so I feel these files are in the correct folders.
So near!!

Put in the IP address of your PC and your PC user name and password. It may help to set your PC to a static IP on your network.
This method may not be suitable if your PC is a laptop that you use on the move a lot as a dynamic IP will be less hassle.
If this isn't working out have a look into "Remote Share" feature in the newest FW which will mount a shared folder from your PC as though it was local storage.
Thanks Ricky D for your reply!
I have done that, and if I open Media on the Z2, and look for connected devices, I can see My_PC in the list.
If I press on that I can see activity suggesting that content is being loaded, but this goes on and on and on!
I know my PC has a lot of content, but I thought it would pick up siub-folders!
I guess part of my problem is that I don't know what I should expect to see!! Can't find any screenshot on the web to help me so far!

Important notes:
"Share name" should be the shared name of the directory you wish to browse (sub directories wil be included)
Host can be the PC name I believe but I prefer to stick with a static IP

Thanks Ricky D!
00.37 here..! I will check all tomorrow and report back!
I think all is working now on the Z2 and using ES File Explorer, I can access my PC and the attached USB drives.
I didn't have success with Root Explorer!
I can also connect my Z2 to my Sony Smart TV now and the Z2 content can be played on the Sony Smart TV!
I can see my PC on my Sony Smart TV but no content is shown...Not sure why that is..
I know that a way around this is to connect my Z2 to the PC and 'mirror' the Z2 to the Sony Smart TV,
I wish I could understand why the PC doesn't share with the Sony Smart TV smoothly...
Ofiaich
Ricky D! Your pictures are screenshots from Root Explorer, I think. I cannot get similar screens to yours but guessing is because my Z2 is not rooted.
Is it worthwhile rooting?
