Bought two of these from amazon and they arrived today. Hooked up to both of my nexus players and it was totally plug and play. Not even a reboot required. This made my WMC recordings work in Plex whereas before they would never play. Also live tv in xbmc no longer buffers every few seconds.

Glad this worked but $25 purchase on top of a deivce that is already $99? what kind of router are you runnnig? why dont you use wireless n on 5ghz? would love to see a wan speed test from this adapter compared to wireless ac.
picked up a ea9200 (ac3200) tri band router just for the two nexus players (had a wrt1900) and dont foresee any need to go wired.
Related question: Is the USB port USB 3? It can't take full advantage of the adapter if not. Even 100mbit would struggle (even though USB 2.0 is rated 480 mbit, it's half duplex and the speed will drop substantially if there's any bidirectional communication).
I haven't had any problems on wireless, but having a wired option is useful if I need it down the road.

I have 2 ubiquiti APs in a mesh configuration they run 5ghz N but while its enough to stream most content it was not enough to stream live tv from win media center with hdhomerun tuners to xbmc, nor could it sustain streams of recorded tv shows from win media center via plex. I could upgrade to AC or add an AC wap to my mesh but that's more $. Aside from this small issue everything else in my house is perfect on wifi. It doesn't make sense to rip and replace my wifi network. A $25 adapter is the cheaper route and everything streams perfectly now.

i owned a Netgear r8000, cant wait to receive the Nexus Player and test. Even though i own 2 fire tvs i cant wait till i replaced them all with nexus player if it works correctly. I have already tested 1080p over 5ghz on the fire tv with xbmc with no skips.

That adapter uses the ASIX AX88178 Chipset. There is a USB 3.0 adapter that uses the ASIX AX88179 chipset:

so I'm wondering if that'd work with the NP. I realize you can't get more than 480mbps over a USB 2.0 port, however I'd rather have a USB 3.0 adapter for future use somewhere else if needed instead of being hobbled by a a USB 2.0 gigabit adapter.
Has anyone tried a USB 3.0 ethernet adapter of any kind on their NP yet?

Most, if not all, gigabit adapters would likely be USB 3. It's possible to get good streaming over USB 2 as it's primarily going to be a unidirectional communication, particularly on a purpose built device not really doing much else with the connection. It should be doing a good amount of buffering to compensate for the half duplex issue. USB 3 devices should have no problem working on a USB 2 port.

On a PC they'd reach higher speeds than 10/100 adapters but would, of course, top out at 480mbps theoretical max instead of full gigabit. I know in most computers any USB 3.0 device works fine in a USB 2.0 port, however I'm gun-shy when it comes to android considering its support track record on other devices.
If anyone has any direct experience with USB 3.0 adapters working fine on android (Nexus 7, 10, etc) I'd love to still know.

They will not work. Just got one based on the USB 3.0 chipset, it did not work with the nexus player or my htc one m8 . Bummer.

Sorry to hear that, it is a bummer. What model did you get and do you know the maker or model # of it's chipset? I ordered a usb 3 adapter with an Asix AX88179 chipset that should arrive by Tues. I know that Asix has provided Google with the drivers for all their chipsets and those drivers have been included in Android since 4.2. Its been confirmed that the Asix AX88178 chipset in their usb 2.0 version works fine with the NPlayer. I wonder if the adapter you picked up has an Asix chipset?

I got one with Asix AX88179. It works in windows, but will not work with my android devices.

For anyone curious: the NP also works with the official nintendo wii lan adapter.
I had one from my old wii and it worked without any changes needed.
Wikipedia states it uses an ASIX chip, but I cant seem to find info on which exact model.

Thanks for the tip, I did the same, totally worked, fixed all the spottiness from the NP wifi adaptor (never saw my N network so was stuck with low bandwidth and app crashes).
I picked up a micro usb extension to move the whole mess of cables around the back of the TV, its such a shame they didn't include ethernet, the FireTV works perfectly with ethernet, but the NP has a far better UI.

What Mbps are you getting out of this adapter? I got the BobjGear USB to RJ45 Compact Fast Ethernet Adapter made for Android Tablets and i am only getting like 5 - 7 Mbps (via speedtest). This is unfortunatly not enough to run 1080p MKV's through Kodi.
I have been getting exceedingly frustrated with the lack of wi-fi stability for video streams and the lack of compatible remotes that work with the Nexus Player.
Pros
Gigabit Ethernet (I know it is only capable of USB 2.0 but streams feel more stable than with the built-in wi-fi)
3 Port USB Hub (I have 2 devices plugged up through the port right now)
Relatively affordable price compared to a standalone USB ethernet unit
Cons
Constructed of hard plastic (would be nice to be built out of metal or something else like the HooToo model)
The first unit I gave a try was the HooToo HT-UE02. No matter what I did, it wouldn't pick up the ethernet; however the USB hub did work. I finally gave up, returned the HooToo unit, and ordered the Inateck HB4003. When It came in, I plugged it up & it immediately worked! I didn't even have to reboot. It automatically switched to the ethernet connection. So far, video streams seem much more solid than with the built-in wi-fi unit. When i get some time, I will run a speedtest.
On a side note. If anyone was curious if the SMK-Link PS3 Blu-Link Universal Remote Control would work with the Nexus Player, it doesn't. I ordered the Logitech Harmony Smart Control. Hopefully it will reduce the number of remotes I have lying around.

4GB of user accessible storage on the #NexusPlayer is a bit small, especially in 2015. Tonight I attached an "old" 64GB SSD via USB OTG and repacked the boot image to use the SSD for the userdata partition. Now I have 59GB of relatively speedy storage.
You can find the repacked boot image at the link below. Personally I am user a powered USB adapter so as not to overload the USB OTG port. You will need to make sure that there is only one partition on the drive or that the partition you intend to use for data is the first partition. It will need to be formatted as ext4.

It could easily be my setup. It could be: 1) USB extension cable from China (length, quality, or potentially being USB 1); 2) My HooToo USB Hub/OTG adapter.
Does casting work with this wired Ethernet port? I once read that casting doesn't work on non-wifi connections, but never had the hardware to test.

Works for me as well. It seems a bit more stable than through wi-fi only ironically.
If you reboot the Nexus Player, does the USB/ethernet connection stay connected? I have a different brand usb/ethernet connector and if I reboot the nexus, it doesn't automatically reconnect to my network. I have to go into the network settings and change the ethernet connection from DHCP to static (and enter all of the network settings). That doesn't fix the problem, but then when I switch back to DHCP it instantly connects and everything's fine until I reboot again. It's not a big problem because I don't restart the NP very often, but it's still annoying.

Yes, mine always reconnects. I don't have to do anything special. I know the Nexus Player is really finicky about which units it likes to work with. I had to return my first one from a different brand.
I found a workaround. There were two issue - first, with DHCP selected the ethernet would not connect until I tried a static connection and then went back to re-select DHCP. I don't think this has been resolved.
But... the other issue was that I wasn't able to get a working connection after manually putting in the static ip settings. When I went through the Static IP wizard I wasn't putting in DNS servers (assuming that they would be auto-retrieved like nearly other device does). The Static IP wizard was finishing successfully without the DNS servers populated. But apparently DNS servers are required when you use the Static IP wizard because now the connection works and survives reboots.

I guess for the inateck....since it was stated that the 3port ethernet definitely works ...I would suppose to get an otg that's works in tandem. ..bc it's quite tight back there with hdmi and power and then micro. ...

I actually just use mine with HooToo (HT-CT01). Its an OTG adapter with 4 extra USB charging ports (they only work for charging). to make the cable longer, I use this adapter with a USB extension cable. I would think if you have an regular OTG cable, you should be able to connect it to a USB extension cable to make it longer.

No one has posted how to get hardwired internet yet, so I thought I'd post this.

Works great. Previous devices I had to turn off wifi and mobile date for it to work. Not with the 6P running Marshmallow.

Cat5 to my work server and then to internet via Comcast router/modem. Also, works at home via cat5 to my gigE switch, then to Comcast router/modem.
I have not tried connecting to other devices on local network.

I'm wondering if you can use your phone as the internet connection, but instead of using USB/WiFi/BT to share your phone's internet with other devices, if you can connect your phone to your router via ethernet and then have the devices in your home attached to that router for internet.

Ah, I see what you're saying. Not sure if you can share your mobile data through your home router. I'd have to play with that.
On the flip side, I just plugged my ethernet cable into my 6P. I activated the wifi hotspot on the 6P and the hotspot SSID shows up on my deskmates phone. He connected and was able to surf the net.

USB 3.0 can handle upwards of 5Gbps, compared to 1Gbps of traditional network equipment. However the 6P only supports USB 2.0, but since the ethernet cable is attached via the USB port it's the lesser of the two that determines throughput.

So, do you connect the USB adapter to the RJ45 adapter, the network wire from modem to the adapter and the usb c to your cellphone right? Were you able to surf the net on the Nexus 6p or do you need to download any app to make it works?

Copying a file to the 6P over USB I get around 28 MB/s which is fairly close to the real-world maximum for USB 2.0. I get around 8 MB/s transfering over wifi which is disappointing since I have an 802.11ac "Nighthawk" Router which manages around 26 MB/S when transferring to my laptop over the same wifi. Connecting to a wired ethernet adapter would be useful for doing direct network file copies without using my laptop as an intermediary even if it's "only" 28 MB/s

Just copy a big file from the local network to your phone via any file browser. ES file browse is the one I use, it will also provide you with MB/s transfer rate.
Conversely, you can also see it in windows (perfmon) or on the router, if it has a bandwidth indicator.

Okay, I did some performance testing and I was unpleasantly surprised. The Wifi performed the best! Verizon wireless the worst (no surprise). Ethernet connected directly to the Comcast router performed slightly better going through my 48 port switch. Both ethernet tests were much slower than wifi.

Fantastic! Whilst transferring on wifi, what was your source of the file: Computer on LAN, USB plugged into the router, or something else? Secondly, what kind of wifi was it AC or N, 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz? Lastly, was it a samba lan share or FTP?
I get about 19MB/s or 152Mb/s down on 802.11AC 5Ghz from a 3.0 USB flash drive plugged into the router (Netgear R7000 DD-WRT) via FTP. Samba LAN share adds quite a bit of overhead. The Nexus 6P has a 2x2 antenna so it connects at ~866mbps I think.

No one has posted how to get hardwired internet yet, so I thought I'd post this.

Works great. Previous devices I had to turn off wifi and mobile date for it to work. Not with the 6P running Marshmallow.

As known, Android will limit the charging current as 500mA while a data transfer detected. Is there anyone know how to get rid of this limitation, so the charging speed could be boost even while the data transfer is active?
So, I'm starting an automation work, which need the Phone to be connected to the PC all the time. The problem faced here is that the phone will always out of juice after ~12hours operation.
I don't mind about the phone get too hot or the battery will have it's life shorten, I will think about that problem later.
I've tried to double the cable input like the one applied on External HDD Storage, with no positive result. Also, have tried to use USB2.0 and also USB3.0 port with the same result. The image below:

Since I've tried to plug the VGA Monitor with USB powered input to the PC, and it could draw current for more than 1A. So, actually, there's a possibility to draw more than 500mA from PC's USB port. Back to the main question, could we break the 500mA limit in Smartphone (Android) even the data transfer is active at that time?

I've faced a similar issue where I needed the phone (Nexus 5) to be connected for adb but maintain a charge. The cable in your picture is not designed to do what you're looking for unfortunately. You might want to look into getting a powered USB hub (USB 3.0). I use an OTG USB squid to power my device and connect a keyboard, mouse and flash drive.
My motherboard has software I installed called USB Boost which allows my phone to draw over 500mA when I'm connected to a USB 3 port, but it's probably limited to certain Asus motherboards. I noticed certain cables worked better than others. I used ampere to figure out which one worked best for me. You should try accessing your BIOS and look around for any USB settings. Feel free to reply with the make/model and I can do some research.

So, in short, @btux81, have you successfully throw current more than 500mA via USB while connected to ADB using that OTG USB Squid?
The OTG is something like this, right?
Are the statement below true, regarding the configuration?
1. One of the squid's tentacle connected to a PC, that will maintain the ADB connection
2. Another tentacle connected to a wall charger, which provide current more than 500mA for faster charging

So, do you means that USB port in the PC only able to give more than 500mA if the USB Boost was activated (from your exp, it's only in Asus motherboard)?
Fyi, my PC using Gigabyte motherboard, and it's able to draw more than even 1000mA when I connect Monitor LED AOC E1670Sw-USB Powered in my USB port. Whether I connect it in the USB 2 or USB 3 port, the current delivered can be more than 1A. So, I don't think that it's related to the PC itself, but must be around the Phone.
As an additional info, by using dual male USB cable mentioned before, I've connected one USB male to PC (hope for the data connection) and connect the another one to USB Charger 2A (hope for faster current input to the phone). But, only 500mA total delivered through the cable (around 250mA from each USB male).
Hello, can someone try a USB-C to HDMI adapter with Motorola One Zoom please ?
It should work because its USB-C port is a USB 3.1 like Motorola Z4 (which has HDMI out over USB-C confirmed) and they nearly have same specs but still no proof for One Zoom

Hello, I am happy to report that the Motorola One Zoom indeed has HDMI out over USB-C, just tried to connect it via USB-C to a portable projector (Viewsonic M1) and it works! :good:

You're welcome booldega! Yes, I used an USB-C to USB-C cable for it, the Viewsonic M1 is a pretty cool portable projector I must say...
Anyway to clear you out any doubts today I have also tried an actual USB-C to HDMI cable to connect the Motorola One Zoom to a Monitor and again it worked perfectly so 100% there is HDMI over USB for our phone, yay!

I tried usb-c to hdmi (via Microsoft dongle) did not work.
I used a Dell docking station with USB C, it is made for laptops, but it worked without any problem. It outputs video to both plugged monitors at the same time, as well as sound. I don't know if you can use double monitors for anything else than mirroring in Android, or if in makes sense otherwise. Usb mouse and keyboard work, as well as fast charging.
But it works.

Today I've tested usb-c connection to monitor.
Android 10 works very well. It's possible to split apps, basically do everything - screen will be mirrored to a monitor.
If they're speakers built-in in, you'll also hear sound from monitor. Watching videos from camera becomes even easier.

No it doesn't. It's just a screen mirroring, not a screen extension or a particular mode.
I tried a micro USB to HDMI (with a usb C adaptor) and didn't work
I just tested USB-C to HDMI hub and it works. To be exact its ABASK adapter. Also charging while child USBs are connected is working, so this makes a nice work station. I'm surprised why Lenovo isn't adverising this feature.
I wonder what are the requirements for the cable to make it work.
I hesitate to buy Motorola One Zoom, because official Motorola support told me by e-mail, that none of Motorola smartphones have HDMI-out compatibility. That seems odd, as it's not the only model that users confirmed to make it work. HDMI-out is the only requirement for a new smartphone for me.
Did you use standard USB-C>HDMI cable or some adapter / docking station that has female HDMI on the way?
Is there a list of smartphones with HDMI-out feature somewhere on XDA forums?
Sorry for double-post, but I wanted to update this thread with my experiences.
I finally bought Motorola Zoom and it works with HDMI-out. I used multi-port solution from Natec (has female HDMI and male USB-C).
I had some problems with disappearing screen on the monitor, that is connection was sometimes broken and then came back, again and again. After many tries of trial-and-error I found out that the source of my problem is LTE Internet. Everytime my phone started to use LTE, it disconnected active HDMI link. Switching Internet to 3G (or using airplane mode) solves the problem permanently.
I wanted to share it, if anyone happens to have the same issue in the future.
