[Q] How to stop KK 4.4.4 emulating SD card before getting to run SD Fix?? - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

How can I prevent KK 4.4.4 from emulating SD card before I get a chance to root and run SD Fix so that I will be able to use App2SD please?? This problem is driving me nuts!!
Thanks.

There's no way around it. If you're staying on kitkat and want ex SD support you need root. All the SD fix is change the prop, which you can't access unless you're on a rooted device

Yes, thanks for that. But when I received a replacement phone after my ZU was sent back faulty, the first thing I did was root it but no ex SD support i.e. Apps2SD. So I ran SD Fix, rebooted and still no ex SD support.
The ZU I first had worked fine but I cannot get Apps2SD working on the replacement phone. BTW - Sony told me that they would be sending me a new ZU coz their repairer lost it a cuppla times but I was actually send a reconditioned one aka formally a faulty one. So I don't know if this is why Apps2SD won't work on this ZU when it did on my first brand new one.
As far as staying on kitkat goes, are you suggesting that I move on to 5.0 or going back to 4.4.3??
I would really appreciate your views.

If SD card fix doesn't work, it means you don't have true access and you have to reroot your zu. If you're bootloader us unlocked impo 4.4.4 is the best right now as lollipop is buggy.
Again root your phone again

OK, I'll give rerooting a go. Which root tool would you suggest (as the best) for the ZU?? Towelroot, Flashtool, EasyRootTool, perhaps another???
Bootloader on Sonys is locked initially but I have been unlocking it..... don't really know why. I just thought it was a good thing to do. Maybe I shouldn't???
Cheers.

Towelroot doesn't work on the latest build I believe, so just use easy root tool and run the exploit again and let the process finish. After done run the SD card fix if it works then you have root access

Nope!!! No go!!! This is really annoying me!!!
I've flashed the original Z Ultra 14.4.A.0.108 Australia firmware.
Rooted the phone with EasyRootTool v12.4.
Installed Nut's dual recovery.
Run SDFix: KitKat Writable MicroSD.
and I STILL don't get the "Move to SD" option with apps!!! I had no problem doing that at all with the faulty Z Ultra I returned to Sony.
I NEED to be able to do this! Have I done something wrong? Maybe done something in the wrong order? Or is this phone faulty??
All suggestions appreciated!

Perhaps I should be more specific. This is the error I'm getting and I want to eliminate it!
"Apps2SD is not supported by your device. Because your device has a primary external storage which is emulated from internal storage. You can link the app in order to move its files to your SD card."
I did NOT have this problem with my first brand new Xperia Z Ultra, only with the refurbished one that Sony supplied as the replacement phone.
I hope this clarifies my problem.
Thanks.

It seems like you want data on your ex SD. If you just wanna transfer apps download folder mount from play store

I think you see it the wrong way...if you have root the Ultra and still can write to SD card...that means your SD card is faulty...

[Q] New Venue 8 with 4.4.2

Just got a new dell venue 8 with 4.4.2 on it. I also bought a 64gb micro sd card for it. Having a issue getting anything to move to it. I am new to android and the reason I got the tablet is for the sd card expansion which I now not able to use. Is there something I am missing or is this locked. Seems odd to have this expansion sd if you can't access it easily.
Thanks for your help on this one.

Yes it shows up there but when I try to move anything I get a error file permission not able to write. I did format the sd card a couple of times in the venues settings thinking maybe that was the issue. It shows up there too but all i can do is format it. So not sure why that write error comes up no matter what i try to move to it.

so that problem is a new "feature" that comes with kitkat
to fix it you can install this xposed module

you will also have to root your tablet and install the xposed framework

Thanks for the info now for another question how do I root this dell tablet. Have been reading a lot of sites saying they have had no luck with rooting this device. Or maybe they are just as new as I am to all this.

Not sure what happened I started up the tablet and there was a ton of updates from Dell so I did those and now i can access the sd card and move stuff to it. Not sure what was in all the updates one was a firmware update but seems they corrected the issue and I don't have to go and root the device for this function. Odd how that worked out but thanks for all the help. I will in time more than likely root the device but until I get better with this OS I will be happy I can just move stuff over to the sd card.

Z18 Mini (rooting?)

I've gotten fed up with the screens getting bigger and bigger, so I went against the stream and ordered me a Z18 Mini.
There's nothing on it in any western country sense so if it'll work on arrival is still surprise!
However, if and when I get the phone I still want to root it and eventually perhaps install a custom rom.
Since there's nothing on the device on the forum I figured I'd have to sort it out myself, so my question to begin with is this:
How do I figure out how to root it?
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.
Regards.
How do I know if rooting is even possible?
Any luck rooting the phone?
I just got the phone, and I'm very happy with it. The only issue is the low memory. I need to root the phone to use link2sd and move everything to SD card. Any luck rooting the phone?

I found the Micro SD slot. When looking at the back phone it's at the top above the battery (slot is facing away from the battery).

Is it possible to root LG Realm LS620?

Hi,
I am looking purchase LG Realm LS620 during blackfriday. Is it possible to root this phone? Please help me with links...
THANK YOU!
Yeah I Used Towel Root it worked just fine then make sure to install SuperSU & Busy Box also search some thing in the play store to fix the writing issue to the SD card after you get root heres a link to the apk for towel root https://towelroot.com/tr.apk :good::good::good:
Yeah towel root works fine, idk if theres any custom recover for it tho, been looking since i got it, ive tried using xposed framework, but its not the same as using cm roms
yeah i have yet to find a custom recovery or any development for that matter but im sure hopefully soon someone will do something with this thing.
Towelroot worked perfect! Thanks
Would just like a custom recovery, I as well have not found one.
I have bricked my LG ls620, any chance of asking someone to rip /system/app for me, or perhaps the entire stock firmware?
Writing issue to the SD Card after using Towel Root with LS620?
Thanks for the info. I should be getting an LS620 today. I would like to disable the activation wizard and I understand the way to do this is to:
1) root phone
2) install free version of titanium backup
3) uninstall LGSetupWizard 4.3.019
Regarding the rooting portion, you mention "search some thing in the play store to fix the writing issue to the SD card after you get root" . I am not sure what this means can you let me know what issues are related to writing to the SD card on this device after rooting with Towel root and what application and process is needed to resolve this issue.
Thanks in advance.

Yes
Towleroot works perfect!
Even unrooted on newer versions of Android you can't write to the external SD in less you root after that es3 will be able to but I'd you want other apps to you need to use
a app such as SDfix: Kitkat writable micro sd, which I used on my LG Realm, hope this helped

Yes, it is very possible

[Q] Any news on root?

any info about rooting methods ?
Kingroot, towelroot?
Xperia Z root (kinguser) app dont work?
Post z telefonu
Neither Towelroot or Kingroot work. Kingo have suggested their app *may* work, but I'm not sure how secure that app is, so haven't tried it. I badly need to root this phone, so I can partition the sd card and use Links2SD. As it stands, I have about 600mb of my "8gb" free, after installing a few apps. I'd like to zap most of the Google apps, and some of the other preinstalled software. Without root, this phone is next to useless if you want to install many, or large, apps.
Im waiting for a root method that works too.
Anyone knows something? :good:

I think unlocking bootloader just allows custom roms to be installed, was a question I asked coz I'm a bit new to this I'm also waiting for root method,
yeah :highfive: and I also think that when you unlock bootloader on your device, it needs to be rooted first
correct me if Im wrong :good:
but hopefully, there will be good news about rooting this coming few days :silly:
From what I've been told and if I'm understanding it right unlocking bootloader and rooting are completely separate, so you should be able achieve either without the need for the other, I'm not sure if this would apply to all device brands but from what I've read seems to be the trend on sony devices, assuming I've interpreted it correctly
so much for that mate all we want now is to have a proper root access for the xperia m4 aqua device
Is anybody working on it at least ?
m4 Aqua - low memory space
This telephone is totally disaster without root access to extend memory with SD card.
I don’t have any recommendation for this telephone for advanced users.
Relax , this phone is available only recently. Allow time for developers to find the solution.
Let me clarify some thing about root and bootloader unlock. Yes we need root to fix the free space problem on the 8GB version using for example links2sd application and memory card. Root can be achieved by two very different ways:
1. By unlocking the bootloader and booting custom kernel with disabled security or recovery which allow supersu to be installed and root achieved. I expect soon m4 aqua to be added to the list of devices which support bootloader unlock (i wrote to sony developers and they told me so) which will allow us to proceed this way. One important consideration here - some phones bought from certain carriers are locked and do not allow bootloader unlock at all. This can be checked by dialing *#*#7378423#*#* - service menu will appear. Go to service info->configuration and check the rooting status. If it says bootloader unlock allowed: yes you are lucky. If it says no you will not be able to unlock the bootloader at all.
2. Using security vulnerability in the current sony firmware allowing installation of supersu enabling root. Up to date no such vulnerability is found. If and when such will be found we can only guess.
About the storage problem - we have one more hope and it is android M (not 5.1 but the next one). It will allow sdcard to be formatted special way and directly added to the internal storage. This way if you put 32GB card and use this functionality of android M your internal storage will increase automatically from 8GB to 40GB. I hope that m4 aqua will get android M eventually but this is not likely to happen before november/december or even later.

SD Card access

Hi All,
I've just updated to MM and everything is running perfectly with root. What a difference in performance!
I have always been able to save stuff into SD card regardless of app using SDFIX patch. (It was meant for Kitkat but also worked on Lollipop)
Is there a fix for this? I want all apps to have access to SD Card..
Or is there a way to create a folder on the SD card for full access? I'm quite confused using these options as i've always applied the SDFix patch
Many thanks
Have you found a solution? I went to edit the permissions and didn't even see the external storage permission in the file, so I'm not sure it's as simple as it used to be.

Nope, still don't know how, i'm just using workarounds for all my applications that require it at the moment. Feels backwards as I use my SDcard a lot since upgrading to MM, but worth it for my phone not lagging anymore!
I do love the upgrade a lot!
