[Q] No 4G after Flashing Hyperdrive 20 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Good evening all.
I flashed my S4 to Hyperrive 20 this week. ever since I have had no 4G access. 3G and 1X are no problem. I tried to modify APN but can't seem to add new APN's or modify existing. Even after enabling Dev Mode. So two questions.
First. Is there a fix for this? and if not, will flashing back to stock fix it?
Thanks in advance.

I guess talk to me like I'm 5 I am not a complete noob but I stopped rooting more than a year ago on my S3. No time for it anymore. This S4 was running CM 11 and was having the same problem. That's when I inherited from a friend that upgraded to the S5. I flashed Hyperdrive to try and fix wth no luck. I actually wouldn't mind going back to CM if I could 4g fixed. Right now the modem I545VRUAMDK. How do i find out what I came from? Or do i just start running through the list until it works?
Edit. I am on ClockworkMod Recovery 6.0.3.2

OK, perhaps you should try to restore it back to Factory new. If I run into a problem I can not fix, restoring a factory image will fix it.
You will need to download and unzip Odin 3.09:

Then take a look at the following XDA links:

Thanks for your time.
I used Odin to get back to factory MDK. Still no 4g. OTA updates also will not install. They will download but install.

Well at this point I would remove the sim card and reinstall. If still no 4g, stop by a Verizon store and try a replacement sim card. You may have a bad one.
I have heard that if you try to dial *228 (Blocked with OEM Samsung Touchwiz ROM) you can destroy the sim card. If this was done, your sim card is defiantly bad.

I ruled out the sim card. I put it in my wife's S4 and it got 4G. I took her card and put it in my S4 and no 4G. Definitely something in the OS I am thinking. I dd notice the APN settings don't match though. But I am unable to modify them on my stock S4.
Any other ideas? Now that I am back to stock is it worth contacting VZW? I am not sure they will be any real help.

I did a search of XDA and found the following:
From:

Look at #18
Flash new Modems
The firmware that runs the phone's radios, which allows you to connect to the networks (CDMA, LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth) can be updated independently of the bootloader. Flashing the MJ7 modem can get you new LTE bands, for example. Read here for information on available modems.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2487298
Looks like LTE bands are not supported until MJ7. My guess is that you will need to update the Modem.

How To Take A Galaxy S4 From Verizon To AT&T(USA), T-Mobile(USA) or Sprint

When I found the Darth Stalker multi-carrier ROM for the Galaxy S4, I was very happy. It works very well, and has allowed me to take my Verizon Galaxy S4 (i545 version) -- that wouldn't work on a US GSM carrier -- and put it on a $60 AT&T "GoPhone" BYOD plan. This saved me about $80 a month since I have 2 phones on the account.
Unfortunately, soon after flashing this ROM, I found out that my WiFi could not be turned on. After some research, I found that there were some modules not included in the ROM that are needed on the i545 variant for WiFi to work properly. I was able to install these easily.
Unfortunately, this ROM will **NOT** work alongside the stock ROM through SafeStrap; it will flash in a ROM slot just fine, but it won't boot at all. This is thanks to the antics of Verizon developers in Verizon's constant attempt to lock their phones to their service. But all is not lost! This just means that you must flash this ROM over the stock ROM.
I have put together the following guide, based on my own experience, that will allow you to properly backup your stock rooted phone completely, properly flash the Darth Stalker ROM over the stock ROM, and make your WiFi work properly. I am using this device & this ROM as my "daily driver", and it works flawlessly.
If, for some reason, things go wrong and you manage to soft-brick your phone, you can re-flash the original MI1 ROM by following the procedures in this thread --> [ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301259 ], which also lists download links for the Odin image file and all tools mentioned. Once your phone is recovered, simply re-root it and install SafeStrap in order to completely restore it to pre-flash condition (right down to the wallpaper) using the nandroid backup i will show you how to create.
INSTRUCTIONS TO PROPERLY FLASH DARTH STALKER v9 ON THE i545 VERIZON/ GALAXY S4:
1. This guide assumes that you have brought your Galaxy S4 up to the I545VRUDMI1 baseband version. If you have upgraded past that, there is no way to do this at the present time.
2. Follow the procedute outlined in the this Forum thread --> [ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2487142 ] to "ROOT" your Galaxy S4.
3. Once you have successfully rooted your Galaxy S4, you can now begin to convert your phone over to one of these GSM carriers, and use a much less expensive GoPhone or StraightTalk SIM card.
4. Go here --> [ http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=991 ] to download SafeStrap custom recovery, version 3.62. Once you have downloaded it, copy it to your phone's SD card.
5. Go here --> [ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292054 ] to download the Darth Stalker ROM that supports multi-carrier operation very well. Once you have downloaded it, copy it to your phone's SD card.
6. Go here --> [ http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=1342 ] to download the modules that must be added to make WiFi work on the I545 version of the Galaxy S4; the developer did not add them into version 9 of Darth Stalker, but it is easy to do. Once you have downloaded it, copy it to your phone's SD card.
7. On your phone, tap your way to "Settings -> Security -> Unknown Sources", and make sure that it is checked/ enabled.
8. Now that you have all of these ZIP files on your phone's SD card, you have allowed it to install from the SD card, and your phone has been successfully rooted, bring up your phone's file manager.
9. Navigate to your external SD card, and tap on the green shield icon to install SafeStrap. Once it finishes installing, tap "Open", then tap "Install Recovery". Once it is finished, tap the new button for "Reboot Into Recovery" and let your phone reboot into SafeStrap Recovery.
10. Once you are in SafeStrap, tap on "Backup"; make sure that "Data", "Cache" and "System" are all checked, and that the storage location is set for your external SD card (DO NOT PUT THIS BACKUP ON YOUR INTERNAL STORAGE!!!). Then swipe to start the backup. This is referred to as a "nandroid backup" and you can recover your entire phone as it exists at that point from it. Let it work -- it should take around 10-15 minutes.
11. Once you have your backup done, tap "Back" to return to the main menu. You will see, in red at the top of the window, that you are working with the Stock Rom slot -- DO NOT CHANGE IT -- that is what we intend to do.
12. From the main menu, tap "Install", then select your external SD card in the Storage field; then scroll down to "DARTHSTALKER_S4_V9.zip" and tap on it. Swipe the button to begin flashing this ROM.
13. In a few seconds, the Aroma Installer will start up which will allow you to specify what features you want in your ROM. Make sure you follow these "bullet points" from the developer, jovy23 [ http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4454815 ] -- it matters!
* Choose The "Full Wipe" Method.
* Choose Any Of The Apps You Want.
* Now Install The Rom Until Its Finished.
* The Aroma Installer Will Then Reboot Your Device.
* Once Rebooted And In The Setup Wizard, DO NOT Touch For 5 Minutes!
* After 5 Minutes, Reboot The Phone... ALMOST DONE!
14. Once you have finished installation, and your phone is working (all except WiFi), you will need to re-install SafeStrap from your SD card. This is a quirk of the stock MI1 bootloader, but can be worked around. Simply re-install SafeStrap when it disappears. Once you have SafeStrap Recovery installed again, reboot your phone into recovery directly from SafeStrap -- DO NOT USE THE PHONE REBOOT MENU TO REBOOT INTO RECOVERY.
15. You will repeat the process you used in originally flashing the ROM, but instead, this time you will flash the file jfltevzw-MI1-modules.zip that is on your external SD card.
16. When flashing is done, tap on the "Wipe Cache/Dalvik" button to clean up and make the kernel recognize the new modules when it loads.
17. Reboot your phone.
18. Once your phone comes up, you will now have WiFi. Enjoy!
Warning: I cannot be held responsible for anything you do to your phone. Anything you do to your phone is your responsibility. I am simply giving your the benefit of my experience in this guide, and I cannot help it if you don't follow it exactly.

That's curious -- mine would show the APN's with an activated SIM, but no signal whatsoever. This is what I had to do to use anything other than Verizon's CDMA here in the US. I was told that Verizon locks out the US GSM frequencies in their kernel so that you can use GSM outside of the country only.

I wonder if something changed in the later updates. As of MDK/ME7 it was working. I was able to get AT&T HSDPA after putting in the APN data. Voice worked without any of that.
As a part of their 700 Mhz spectrum agreement they had to be sim unlocked. My wife is using a VZW iPhone with an AT&T sim without problem. Did you see any sort of signal when you had the sim in (no data indicators, just signal bars)?
Anyone try stock MDK ROM and MJ7 Modem on ATT or Prepaid ATT with LTE active? Is this possible? In service mode I see both Band 17 and Band 20 as new selectables when updated to the MJ7 Modem
My 2 cents
unlocked out of the box
the sch-i545 is unlocked out of the box. no mod required. the only issue i have with AT&T is caller ID formatting has a + in front. Otherwise once with APN added, it works fine and able to get HSPA+

No -- no bars at all -- just an empty triangle. I would get the occasional flashing small triangle just above the signal indicator (searching for data, I believe), but the bars would never show. About half the time, I would get a red "NO" circle over the indicator, too.
As soon as I flashed Darth Stalker, though, it glommed onto signal & data lickety-split. I'm happy with it now -- in fact, I did a second one and sent it to my girlfriend in New York.

Before I left Verizon, while it was still on MI1, I flashed the MJ7 radios -- it virtually killed my transfer speeds. Went from almost 20 mbps to less than 10.
I've been through allot of this trial and error as I've always used GSM services in the past and before my S4 used a Verizon Note 2 with Straight Talk "AT&T". I got lucky and got an MDK and I've helped a friend with an ME7 on same service.. so I've worked with them both. What I found right away was that the Verizon CyanogenMod builds do not work properly with GSM phone service properly.. then I got a tip and made a custom VZW loki'd ATT recovery and started flashing the i337 CM ROMs and everything worked perfect from that point on.. I still have to do some work swapping files around when I want to run custom kernels.. not sure why most of the devs decide to pre-patch the kernel images instead of loki patching them during the recovery flash process as this would make a universal VZW/ATT kernel.. but it works non-the-less. As for the ME7 i545, the stock rom worked as long as you selected global mode but you'd still get the non-verizon sim error. Used SS with the GE 4.2.2 ROM and it works perfect with his GSM service.

The radio flashing happened while it was still a CDMA/ Verizon phone, before I flashed Darth Stalker. It really cut my LTE speed. Flashed the original MI1 radios, and I got the speed back.
Now, with Darth Stalker, I am on HSPAP:15 or HSPA:11 but the indicator says 4g -- I get comparable throughput as I did on Verizon.
Anyone getting LTE on ATT or prepaid ATT like goPhone, StraightTalk, AIO with the MJ7 radio?

No, I think you misunderstood the nature of my original post. It was meant to illustrate how to get away from the high phone bills with Verizon here in the US -- since Verizon locks out all GSM US carriers in the RIL, you MUST replace the Verizon stock ROM in order to be able to use the Verizon phone on any US carrier which uses GSM technology.
You can still use foreign GSM carriers with the stock Verizon firmware, but there is no known method to "open up" the Verizon stock ROM for the use of the phone on US carriers on GSM -- many have tried, and everyone has failed. The only viable option is to completely replace the stock ROM and kernel -- which was the purpose of my "tutorial" here.
If you are in India, and you have a Verizon CDMA S4, you simply need to pop a SIM from a foreign GSM carrier into it in order to use GSM there -- you will NOT be able to use GSM here in the US, though, because of Verizon's lock-out logic contained in the RIL (Radio Interface Layer). I am not sure about the use of the Verizon US CDMA phone on foreign CDMA carriers, though.

a "dirty" flash will do it, but it may come with rom issues.
worse case, just Odin the baseband tar.
what rom did you dirty install? I installed bonsai 1.0 over .5 and it just stayed at the note3 screen. Did you have in upgrade the recovery first, or anything like that? ThaNKS.

Most of the time when your rom wont boot, its a kernel issue.
I dirty flashed Freeza's NH7 rom.
I'm inclined to believe our problems stem from "wifi calling".
It was introduced in NC5 if im not mistaken, & thats when boost Note 3's started to have problems.
I've found an interesting anomaly with the modem issue.
after the MJ baseband, all the newer modems flash APNHLOS to our phones.
not sure just yet what it does, or how its attached to the MEID, but that's my find.
Any ideas?

[Firmware Needed] Galaxy S4 SCH-I545PP (Verizon Prepaid)

I'm in search of firmware for the S4 running 4.3 or 4.4. I haven't gotten this phone yet but verizon is selling it through Walmart on prepaid. I know the firmware isn't gonna be the same as if it was on contract verizon. I have the S3 right now and it's prepaid. Many argued that there wasn't a NF5 firmware but turns out there is and i used it many times to fix soft bricks on the S3 using Odin. So I'm pretty sure the prepaid side of the S4 will have different firmware then one on contract verizon would have. So that being said, does anyone have 4.3,4.4 or even 5.0 firmware they can share that will work with Odin? Not sure if the S4 got the 5.0 update. Just assuming it did. Any help is appreciated!
Anyone? Please?

OK never mind. I need 5.0.1 firmware. Not 4.3 or 4.4. Any help would be great
I can't think of any reason as to why post paid firmware would be different than prepaid. You can use the phone for either.
And you're posting jn the wrong forum, which is probably why nobody is helping you. Because you didn't bother to read the rules before posting.
Try the general section or Android development section. Click the search button and type firmware. I'm sure you'll find it faster than it took you to make all these posts. Good luck
still no help

I think what sob372 was saying is the hardware in the phone is the same as the contract so you can just follow the SCH-I545 stuff and it will work.
being that I just got this same phone S4 prepaid used I'll be playing with it to root it, install safestrap and probably downgrade it from Lollipop to Kitkat. So I'll let you know if you don't find more here by searching and I'm sure there are relevant posts if you dig around a bit.
BTW the S4 PP does have a SIM slot.

It just seems really sketchy to do with the contract firmware. Like I get the feeling that if I flash the firmware from contract, I'll lose any cell phone service under prepaid. I just don't want to end up with a big paper weight. The modules could be different. With the S3 I had which was prepaid also. I used safestrap and superlite rom was the best one I got to work with the prepaid version. The system always kept crashing but it would load if I put it under stock an not a rom slot. I had to get the i535pp module to fix the Wi-Fi problem but if I had no service cause of the sim issue then I didn't want it. Also I'm not sure but I think there is no safe strap for the s4 running lollipop. I believe the forum said it would cause bootloops if you tried. Just like you need to deodex for xposed cause of the changes in art

If you can confirm all is in working order with the contract firmware (can't remember what the build is) with the prepaid phone, I'll give it a go.
Update
A member already tried the OC1 postpaid firmware on the prepaid. They said all works but the camera and charging don't work. So that's out of the question
I been looking around on the net and best I've come up with is backing up the firmware. I tried using flash fire to get back ups of every partition. Then I used Odin package creator to try an make a firmware file to use with Odin but when I tried it out in Odin, it stopped at data so I took out my personal data then it stopped at something with number 3 at the end. Can't recall what it was. So if anyone can test more on this to have any luck. Maybe then we can get the firmware out to people in case sammobile decides not to or takes another year to release it
I've been trying a different approach to getting a copy of the OH7 firmware. I've been attempting to use Fiddler4 + the Verizon Wireless Software Upgrade Assistant tool that comes on my phone (Verizon Prepaid Galaxy S4 model SCHI-545KPP) to get a download link to the original rom file... I can't get the bloody link to download with Fiddler or an internet browser, as i get a 403 forbidden error. I'll keep trying, maybe I can find the downloaded file in my temp files while attempting to recover my phone? It will take some time but I'll keep trying.
*update* So I located where the Verizon Wireless Software Upgrade Assistant stores its files (compressed and extracted). The location is C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Verizon_AR .
I unfortionally didn't figure this out until after I royally soft bricked my phone. Right now I have a OF1 recovery installed on the phone, and the assistant keeps trying to install the OF1 firmware (and it fails). If anyone could check that folder for the OH7 firmware, or post a backup of the OH7 recovery, you'd be doing me a huge favor. I think we'll have the OH7 firmware after this one way or another.
*edit* This is 100% confirmed now. C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Verizon_AR\SCH-I545_I545VRUGOF1_FACTORY\decrypt produced a zip file that is 100% identical to the OF1 firmware zips out there. This decrypt subfolder didn't appear until after the file was completely downloaded, and the Software Repair Assistant had started to try and flash the rom. This data is deleted after the phone completes flashing (or fails to flash). If you select "delete" after this information is downloaded, the encypted rom file is deleted and you must start all over again.
If someone could check that folder who has used the Verizon Wireless Software Upgrade Assistant to recover their phone, using the tool on your phone again and you'll get the decrypt folder... if you zip/rar that folder, we'll finally have the backup files we can post somewhere.
the PP phone uses the same firmware as the normal one that guy that tried it
did something wrong
just flash the OF1 tar via odin and be done with it

I'm trying out your idea. If i can get the file them I'll upload it. If not, I'll still be able to at least send you a back up of the oh7 recovery. Mines all still stock. Id hate to get stuck with a paperweight until the correct firmware is released. That's why I'm careful lol. The firmware is downloading right now. It says it's a enc4 file though. Maybe just cause its downloading at the moment. I'll just wait an see an I'll let you know

A few people who used of1 on the pp version had issues. Not one came out with no issues far as i know. So I'd rather be safe then sorry. Not saying your incorrect but I'm just trying to play it safe and careful. Appreciate the input though

Yes, while it is downloading it will be a .enc4 file. Even after downloading it will stay like that, but when you got to actually flash the file, it will decrypt and the encrypted version will appear in that /decrypt folder.

so im confused. do i need the encrypted or decrypted file for it to work with odin? i tried changing the file to zip format and open it with winrar after it downloaded in the software but it came up as an unknown archive or damaged. so im not sure what im doing wrong but ill keep trying
UPDATE: i have tried getting the file through verizons handy tool and i did get the decrypted folder along with the unzip folder during it was finishing up repairing my s4. i just copied the file from the decrypted folder and extracted it during the repair. so now im using odin 3.10.7 and testing it out now to see if it will flash successfully. if all goes well, i will make new thread with the firmware link inside it so users dont need to scroll through pages to find the link. first anyone know a good or popular upload storage i can use to upload the firmware to for others to use? i tried uploading onto here but i keep getting a connection timeout
UPDATE 2: ive got it! i made the firmware of OH7! finally. you can go ahead and head over to this thread TheXev. use it and youll be back to stock

Thank you so much. I was close to taking this phone back and not getting another simply because I really need a phone to replace my S3 for tethering soon. But if you got the firmware, I can flash it back to working order, and hopefully get some deodexed roms (that way I can install Xposed framework). Thanks again!

[Firmware] G930U - QD2 Android 7.0 for G930A (5/8/2017)

You may need to use Odin3_v3.12_PrinceComsy
- G930UUEU4BQD2_G930UOYM4BQD2_ATT.zip
Thanks a bunch! I've been trying to download it with no success
Thank you. Time to tinker again...haha
Yeah I'm gonna get this rooted and hopefully get some performance back after UPDATE: i rooted successfully but after i tried to fix the fingerprint sensor issue my phone would only boot to recovery and download mode so i flashed to stock
It turns out that when I flashed those files it kept trying to activate my phone on the sprint network instead of att and also it made my settings go wonky so I'm downloading the u firmware with the att product code again because it messed it all up
Just a heads up, I was unable to get the EngBoot Kernel working on this ROM. It would reboot on its own every 2-3 minutes. I spent about 6 hours on this until I gave up and flashed the ATT ROM and then EngBoot. That worked just fine (except for the performance issues).

Can you link to ATT Nougat EngBoot rom? I wanted to upgrade to Nougat, wipe, and then get Nougat EngBoot rom on their, but I don't want to use Sprint or whatever that other carrier was. (Prefer to use ATT on ATT devices, ya know?)

Help!!! I went ahead and flashed the TMO version of the 930u code. I downloaded the ZIP. Placed all the right files in the correct place in Odin (comsey odin) and finished the process. The phone didn't reboot even though reboot was checked. Now I'm in a boot loop. Help!!
Update:. For it to work after flashing a second time. Not sure what happened the first time.

Downgrade necessary for carrier/csc change? August 1st update

Hey guys,
Bought the galaxy s8 plus from a store thinking it was factory unlocked version directly from samsung, but it wasnt. Its the unlocked sprint version based on the radio, and it had a tmobile app or two already installed. I am using AT&T and would like to change the carrier to at&t so that I can get a few features for at&t (Mainly being able to send mms while on wifi). I updated to the latest online update (which im guessing i shouldnt have) and i would like to know if its possible to easily change the carrier still, and or if i can downgrade safely to change the carrier. If so, what files are the latest that I can get the ball rolling with? Using the AT&T version is completely fine.
I came across this youtube video that shows how to easily change carrier without flashing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msAHhCVF-F8
Basically i am a bit lost and would like to know if anyone can help at this point. Here are my software information:
Bootloader Version: G955USQU1AQGL
Build number NRD90M.G955USQU1AQGL
Active CSC Code: XAS
Please advise, thanks guys!

Goto updato.com to download the latest AT&T stock firmware. Extract and flash the files in Odin. If you flash all the files (AP, BL, CP And CSC) you will wipe everything on the phone so backup first. If you don't want to start over, then just flash CP and CSC.
There are two versions, 955U and 955U1. The U version is carrier specific and will contain their own software bloat. The U1 version is unbranded so no carrier bloat.
If you need more details, search for carrier switch.

Hey my friend,
Thanks so much for reaching back with an update and for the support! Awesome! So, youre 100% sure downgrade procedure wont brick the device? Also, do you know if this will this trip knox? Last question: do you think this will solve the red tint on the edges of the phone? I heard this was supposedly a software issue, not hardware.

Ok, so I tried it and with the unbranded XAA version and I am getting a "FAIL! Model dismatch fail" in odin. Even tried renaming files to tar and removing md5 at the end.
I also noticed that when in download mode, there are no green words going across the screen like I see in youtube videos who get it after they connect it. Could it be i do not have specific drivers installed? I installed the samsung usb drivers.
EDIT: Scratch that, the odin PrinceComsy version (Has to have the banner at the top) seems to be working fine. I am currently flashing

Download quick reboot for your phone and use the app to get into download mode. Make sure you have debug settings turned on in phone. Also check if you can access the phone when its plugged into your computer. If you see it as a drive, then the drivers were installed correctly. If not, uninstall and reinstall.

Awesome. ok, so i got it to work. But now when i reflash the rom back for sprint, the splash screen is stuck to AT&T and does not remove or go unbranded no matter what i do. It even has bloatware for att when the system starts. I never flashed att rom, only sprint unbranded XAS, not sure how this is happening. How can i get unlocked gsm and cdma back unbranded for sprint? I even formatted everything and flashed the user data, still the same. Its weird
Also, I am flashing it back to return the phone to store the way I received it. This red tint is just unacceptable.

Yes that firmware is unbranded. The CSC from XAA will automatically detect your carrier's sim and use that network.

Ok, so just tried it and the sprint CDMA is no longer available in the Mobile Networks menu., only the following:
Mobile Data
International Data Roamin
Disable 2G
Access Point Names
Network Operators (AT&T underneath)
There is no option to choose CDMA like there was before I just firmware changed. The XAS firmware that I had offered the option to choose automatic, LTE/3G, CDMA. Now its gone from the menu after the XAA flash.

Forgot you have to be rooted use the app. There's an adb command you can use instead. Just do a search in xda for preconfig carrier switch.
I flashed my spring s8 plus with Odin and now I can't get it to read my sim at all ,says will not register on network , where the carrier usually is it says 12345 , I've tried to flash back to stock and nothing works ...im at a loss this is my only phone ,I've tried to do a stock reflash and still nothing , I even did a emergency recovery through smart switch and still ...please help
