Home Button build quality - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know what materials the home button on the S6/S6 Edge are made of? Is it metal and plastic or metal and glass? I haven't encountered an article that has mentioned this. I have the option of trading in my Note 4 for an S6 Edge and one of my pet peeves with the Note 4/S5 before it is that the home button gets all these hairline scratches after a little bit of use (I've had my Note 4 since mid-October). Naturally, having a better home button would be one small thing tilting the S6 Edge as my Note 4 replacement.
Apple used to have this problem with its home button before they introduced the TouchID sensor which has a sapphire-polymer coating. Since the sensor on the S6 Edge/S6 are supposedly similar to the TouchID sensor, I wonder if Samsung extended the improved build quality of its flagships to the home button. Thanks!

Yes the home button on the S6 is a different material. I've spent a lot of time with the S6 and as a Note 4 owner, the home button (hairline scratch) issue is one of the main things I was curious about as well. The home button on the S6 feels more like a hard acrylic glass....not quite sure what material it is exactly, but it is noticeably different than the Note 4.

That's great! I guess the only way I'll really be satisfied is to play with it at the shop before I claim my pre-order.

Just wanted to report that the home button is definitely still fragile. My 6mo old Note 4 has a mint home button, but somehow in 3 days i've managed to scratch my S6e button =/

Same here. Had the Note Edge for months, and you have to SWIPE the home button for the fingerprint reader, no real scratches of any consequence. S6, barely a few weeks old, only lightly TOUCH the home button for fingerprint reader, and scratched already. Nice big one, too.

Love my Edge - it was just delivered two days ago - but there was a mark on the button that looked like a scrape. Very small - at first it looked like adhesive that just didn't come off the packaging. I rubbed the spot gently with a soft cloth but the mark remained.
If the phone were a car, I'd describe the mark as something in the clear coat but not deeply in the paint.
Anyway I called T-Mobile the next morning - they shipped a new phone that arrives today.

[Q] Home bar button: Raised or not raised!

My 16 gb's home bar is a little raised just slightly, while my 32 gb's home bar is totally flushed with the screen. Which one is it supposed to be, any clue or info?

Should be flush.

Really? Mine isn't raised, while my girlfriends is, and it's a lot easier and more comfortable to press.
I've seen a few and they all flat, so just something to think about.
Mine is raised, which is the way it's supposed to be. You can tell because the official flip case has a space for the raised home button to fit into.
Well I like the raised home button but I also like the flat home button, there's only 1 way to solve this... Fiiiiight.
I work for a telco and have played with a lot of I9300's... my personal 2 I9300's both have ever so slightly raised keys however I have had some customers whom have had recessed buttons which cannot be felt when running your finger over them... slight manufacturing QA fault possibly?
Mine is flat.
Mine is slightly raised -- as they should be.
Mine is raised as well.

Thanks guys!
Slightly raised here too. Bizarre that there could be variations in this from the factory.
Mine is also slightly raised. I think it gives you a better feeling when you are "looking" for the home button!

I had the 16gb version and its home button was raised. I switched to the 32gb model and now the button is flat. The button on the 16gb model felt so much nicer. So now I'm wondering if this is a manufacturer defect. Also, my screen makes a slight clicking noise when I hit it on the upper half of the screen. Any ideas on that issue?
Mines raised by about 0.2mm, very very tiny raise, usually flush with a screen protector or just slightly above it
international s3
Mine was raised slightly when I bought it, now it is flush. I wonder if it goes that way after some use?
I wish they hadn't used a physical button. On my old Sony the physical buttons were the first things to break.

Sony used very cheap button mechanisms.... I've had iPhones and GS2's, and never had any problems.
A lot of pics on the net are showing the white one and the home button looks so raised it looks fake lol. I have pebble blue and mine slightly raised as it was out of the box.

Improper alignment of the home button

It's been a few days I bought the 64 Gb edge black color.I am from bangalore, india. Well as the title say the home button is not aligned straight and I was aware if it when I bought it. While I was buying it the first piece had a totally non aligned home button and the store guys got me another piece from their other branch and home button on that was also a little off in terms of alignment and I thought that was a default manufacturing issue so ignored and bought it as I also did not have the patience for them to get another piece. But no issues in terms it's functionality but when I look at the home button carefully it looks a little off. So was just wondering if any one has this too? And not to forget the first piece that I got also had scratches on the home button which was strange as it was a sealed piece. Samsung should definitely be taking care of this for the huge money they are charging else they could be loosing customers in future.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Keyboard case?

Hi, has anyone seen these for the S7? They were not in today's keynote AFAIK. They were only made available for the S6+ and they were leaked in the previous weeks as an accessory to the S7, but nothing so far. Has anyone seen/heard anything about this_
Thanks!
As I feared, it seems this will only be available for the larger S7 edge...

Or may be for both?

Hope to see see more cases in the near furture
Pre-ordered one on February 28th for my girlfriend. She's hooked on physical keyboards. She came from a Stratosphere 2.
Looks like it only comes in black for now...link here. She got the S7 Edge gold so would've been nice to see a gold case and keyboard but we'll take what we can get for now.
Finally got it today after Samsung didn't give any status for several weeks. Will have to report back on performance after we play with it more.
So far we noticed the keyboard case disables the always on display, puts a dent in the screen protector on the top left side (Will probably get a tempered glass protector instead), and removes the mode button on the camera. You obviously can't use the fingerprint scanner. The overall build quality and feel is nice. The keyboard is very responsive. My girlfriend is happy with it overall and said she only has to press buttons slightly harder than on the Stratosphere
The nighttime edge clock still works with the case even though the rest of AOD doesn't. Not sure if the edge clock is part of AOD or not. The keys obviously don't illuminate at night so difficult to use the keyboard if you're the passenger in a car at night. Would be nice if Samsung found a way to make them light up through wireless power from the phone.
I bought one a couple of weeks ago. I posted a video

Got it. Very nice. A bit bulky. And a waste of money! All that screen sitting under the keyboard. I hope balckberry vienna comes out soon!

Hi, something very strange is going on. The space bar only enters a space if I press it with the ALT key, on its own it does nothing. Any ideas? This is not a hardware problem because it does enter a space with alt. There does not seem to be a keyboard config. This is very annoying... I am on the latest samsung software update. I do have a tempered glass protector, could that be it?
Thanks!

It is the tempered glass.... I removed it and the keyboard works fine. Will try another brand and/or plastic film instead and will report back.

she'd probably like the Blackberry PRIV. I feel bad for RIM right now. Their previous reputation is overshadowing this REALLY solid device. If they released this phone 3-5 years, they'd likely still have a decent foothold in the market. They're at where LG was before Google breathed new life into them.... I wonder if Google would choose RIM to make a Nexus? That could instantly resuscitate that company. But currently, the PRIV is easily the best choice for someone who wants a physical keyboard

Just 2 QUESTIONS - S6 Edge

Well, just want to ask 2 questions about a new S6 Edge, since in other topics I get no response and I need your help.
1) Is this small mark on the home button acceptable ? It was like this straight out of the box. You can see it in some angles when light hits it. (can't feel it with hand)
http://prntscr.com/bdfoz8
2) Is this "line" on the display panel normal? (It's under the glass, on panel.) I think it may be normal since in the disassembly of IFixIt you can see that the panel is a little bit "wavy". IFixIt picture: http://prntscr.com/bdfqj4

Also, a lot people claim that there's a little protective sticker on their Camera Lens. There's not on mine, only on HR Sensor/Flash.
I had a sticker on mine...

Mine is a European G925F , relatively new batch (end of 2015) and only has a sticker on the HR Sensor/Flash. Maybe Samsung doesn't follow the same route everywhere. Also, a lot S6 / S6 Edges had a sticker on the home button but others (like mine) shipped fully covered (with home button covered too) so they didn't have the sticker there.

Note8 slight loose power & bixby button ?

hi guys
been looking for posts /threads about those loose/wiggly buttons in here
and i found out that S8 seems got similar issues where either power button or bixby button or even both button seems not as tight as volume button
while this is probably not big concern or have any effect to water/dust resistant with the one that have loose button as it have more gap than the button have tight-fit
i am curious is that manufacturing defect and should be replaced
or most people get similar slight "loose" button and said it within manufacturing quality
I have noticed this too, but not just for those buttons. All of the hardware buttons on my note 8 are a bit loose, it's possible to wiggle them up and down very slightly and make a sort of taking sound. No idea if this affects the waterproofing though. On my previous phone (iPhone 6) there was no movement whatsoever.
Yes i noticed that too and because my S8 power button wasn't that loose, i went to the store to test the models there but they were all the same, so i think its normal
Happens after some wear and tear on them.
It shouldnt effect the water rating since the buttons are on the very outside.
Inside the phone the button area is cup. So even if the button itself came out its still sealed.
The tear down videos and photo show all this.

Hum on that idk.
Mines out the box was tight. And even right now the only buttons that is a little lose is the bixiy button.
But my s7e was like this. Very firm out the box, then a few months later the vol would rock very easy.
