[Q] Phone Heats up Fast! - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone experiencing a rapid phone heat specifically on the right side of the phone? My battery life is not that great but can't seem to figure out what's draining my phone, getting about 9 hours with moderate use. I had this issue right from the beginning.
I did notice that I would randomly see the 'gps' signal on top of the notification randomly saying that it's searching for location at least 6 times a day. Is this normal?
Any suggestions is appreciated.

The obvious is turn " Location " OFF and see if heat goes lower and you may see increased battery life as well.
What are your Screen On Times during the 9 hours of use ?

Hey OP, I'm having heat problems too. I have cpu-Z and it is showing my cpu getting to ~55°C after 5 mins of playing a game. And it gets hot doing other things too.

I have a case so my experience is a little Different but you can't forget, we still have 8 cores in this thing.

55°c is absolute fine..believe me..HTC goes to 90-100 while gaming and than throttle down

I put my device on a wireless charger (tylt vu) and the device got extremely hot.
Never had issues on my nexus 6

[Q] Anyone else's phone running hot?

I've been noticing a good amount of heat up by the camera during moderate use. I thought this was a CM7 problem since I had been on it since day 1, but I am now on UnNamed and the problem persists. After some googling it does seem that many other people are having this problem. Not on WIFI, and not in a poor signal area either. Just wanted to see if anyone had any leads as to the cause. What is a good app for monitoring CPU usage by app?
Yes, it may get a little hot but it isn't something to worry about as far as I know. I've gamed for three hours straight and not had any problems except for a low battery life!
yeah mine gets hot near the camera during use but i dont think its a problem
I use a battery monitor.
From what I've read, it will shut off for protection. I've heard that as long as it doesn't ever get too much above 130 F, you should be OK.
Now if it constantly stays high, there may be a problem. Mine stays around 80 F most of the time and the highest I've ever seen is 99 F but i don't game much or use my camera. One thing you don't wanna do is charge it while hd gaming or charge it in a hot car. My infuse reached 146 F one time doing that.

I only notice my battery gets hot when im charging while playing a game or sometimes watching a movie

Somehow 'Words with Friends' caused my phone to really warm up a lot. More so than I've seen with any other situation and on numerous occasions. Luckily I suck at that game and uninstalled it...
Mine is cool unless i put a thick case then itll burn up

When I first got CM7 running on this thing, I tore through the market installing the apps I'm used to. When I was finished, I noticed that it was indeed a bit warm in the area you described. It wasn't hot enough to cause discomfort, just warm enough to note.
I notice when my phone gets hot in that area when it is around 30% remaining and I charge it. I also notice that when it is charging, it really isn't charging but battery is draining. When I got home and charged it at 30%, I left it sitting there for about 30 minutes and when I checked the phone again, it was at 25%. GPS and wifi was turned off. I decided to power down the phone and remove the battery for 5 minutes. I started working fine after that. I noticed it getting hot again today when I plugged it in to charge at 40% but this time it actually was charging. I am running stock rom but rooted. Should this be a concern?
Seems as though a lot of people are having a variation of this problem. Hopefully it is addressed soon.
The CPU will always get a bit warm if it's running.
If it's getting very hot when the screen is off, you've probably got some background task wakelocking the phone.
My phone's screen gets pretty hot when I run web videos/flash videos on HSPA.
Runs a tiny bit warm when i'm running pristine 3D Tegra games on it...otherwise no.

[Q] Do you experience heating issue on your S3?

I've been using my i9300 S3 for a few days now and it seems to heat up on the lower back when using wifi/data extensively. It's not hot to cook an egg sort of thing, but it seems hotter than usual.
Any of you experience such issues?
Hello
I am first time android user. Even i noticed this. Please let me know if it's ok.
It feels normal to me though....but I guess extensive usage may increase heat, just like computers and other electronic devices
I noticed the heat issue a lot more when I just got the phone. It still warms up a bit but i would say it is normal.
Though it did get pretty hot on my last flight during take off that I had to turn it off. Didn't want my expensive phone to melt.

It's normal I wouldn't worry about it to much although it will get warmer if it is being charged while using the program.
I am facing a similar issue ! My question is what temperature is safe enough ? I mean I have used few battery info apps. I have got a temperature reading of around 42 - 43 degree Celsius ! Is it normal ?

Do you own a computer of any kind? Not even that, any electronic device... a TV, PC monitor, anything? Use it for a while, and then report back to me any changes in temperature....
Is quite normal as long as your palm doesn't feel uncomfortable with the heat.

I had the one x it got as much as 163 Fahrenheit very very hot.

S3 overheating
Krico is absolutely right. It happened this morning when I was charging thru a notebook using both devices at the same time. And the heat lingered on even though I unplugged it. So I switched it off and now it is back to normal. Tks.
The phone can get pretty hot using WIFI and 3g extensively or 3d games. This is normal, electrical components heat up after prolonged use, your computer heats up your tv heats up. As long as the phone isn't burning your hand or exceeding 60C you should be fine. My phone gets warm to the touch and noticeably heats up but doesn't get HOT, if your phone ever gets HOT, turn it off to avoid damage.
I use an app called temp cpu v2. It displays a few interesting stuff incl. battery temperature. There are probably other apps like this.
With wifi on I get around 26 degrees but it sometimes goes up to 50 (or a little more?) on 3d games using wifi.
While charging it gets a little hotter.

[Q] Heat issues

Hey guys.. I'm having an international version of galaxy s3... Running
XXEMR2.. When I'm browsing on HSPDA, the phone goes up to 45°C within 5 minutes of continuous browsing.. Otherwise, browsing on EDGE is quite normal. The phone doesn't get heated up, stays within 35°C.... I'm using Battery widget reborn, for the temperature readings.. Is this normal?
Sent from my Potato
Communication using H+ uses much more power than G or E, particularly if the signal is weak or you have a ROM with lots of services also running in the background while you browse. 45 degree is the battery temperature, that is not very hot but the cooler the battery is kept the better.
I stopped worrying about battery voltage, temperature, wakelocks etc when I got rid of my HTC, I only worry now if it gets too hot to hold!
Yep I agree with the person above. The plastic cover should insulate most heat so if the back vets too hot, that's when there's a problem

[Q] Phone gets Hot

Is it normal, that the phone gets really hot, if i play some games !? i mean, sometimes it's so hot, that i can't touch the screen ...
Completely normal

Mine heats up like crazy if I just use Wi-Fi intensive applications (Skype etc) while charging!!
What about playing videos whilst charging? It heats up like a freshly baked pie!!
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Of course it gets hot if you do anything CPU intensive for any length of time (even more so on charge). The CPU has no cooling, no effective heatsink & is in a very enclosed space near other components that also get hot (including the battery). It's not like a PC CPU which has at least one fan & a heatsink (and vents), not to mention plenty of clearance (compared to a phone at least) between components in a desktop PC at least which allows heat to dissipate better.

OC to like 1.4 GHz, OC GPU, Max screen brightness, charge and play graphic intensive games :good:
It's normal
I know this is an old thread, but I just started having this problem. I've had my Galaxy S2 since March 2013 but only in the past week as the phone been heating up and draining battery power to almost nothing in a matter of four or five hours. I used to be able to use the phone multiple times over the course of the day with no issue of heating or battery power, but ever since Friday 12/13 I've had this problem. It gets so hot I keep it off until I need it, and I'm used to keeping it turned on. Even keeping it in airplane mode doesn't keep it from heating up. I've had other Samsung Android phone users tell me of the same thing happening only in the past week, not before that. Any idea what it could be?

Heat

Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. Rate this thread to express the extent to which the Essential Phone stays cool under extended heavy use. A higher rating indicates that even when playing strenuous games for long periods of time, the phone doesn't get uncomfortably warm.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Have not experienced any heating at all
I am experiencing heating issues, I would like to know if it's just me and hopefully I just have a defective device. The battery Temp stays around 49 Celsius
My phone does get a little hot... Altho I was jus using Google duo which uses a lot of resources I believe... Not 100% if that's the case tho, and it cooled rather quickly after I ended the phone call...

It gets pretty warm when I quick charge and use the phone at the same time but I think that goes for most of the phones out there
It won't get very hot. If the internal temp gets to 44C (112F) it aggressively throttles the big cluster down to about 1.2GHz, which is about half the maximum speed.
At 41C its down to 1.8GHz
At 40C its down to 2.1GHz
So in the span from 39C-43C (102F-109F) The performance drops by 50%.
A 4 degree C temperature span. This is the most aggressive throttling I've seen in any device I've owned.
I noticed this morning during charging the phone is getting too hot to touch around the upper right corner where the 360 camera attaches (which I don't have.)
no heat issues here yet.
Ya I am having some issues when I charge my phone and watch YouTube at the same time

Mine is hot at times as well. How can you tell the temperature of the battery?

Same here I feel it at times of heavy usage and charging
Accu battery says I'm around 107.4 F when I'm charging and using heavy. But that's the hottest it gets. I generally sit it next to a fan whenever I experience this. But it does nothing for internal temp which stays at 107.4 but the outside is cool to touch. And now that I think about it I may be wing about the temp. Not sure if it was 104.7 or 107.4. But that's besides the point.
Yes this phone does get hot at time of heavy gaming/ usage/ etc

I use Ampere, and put a 1x1 widget on the home screen. The widget shows the mA (+/-), battery status (charging/discharging), battery %, and battery temp.
No heat issues, not even playing Pokemon Go.
I ran my phone on battery with Waze on for 2 hours and the display turned off, made a few long phone calls along the way, the phone was very cool IMHO based on other phones I had that I would run Waze on. Only used about 25% of the battery in this 2 hour timeframe with Waze, phone calls, emails coming in and news alerts popping up occasionally. Then connect the phone to a cheap USB-C phone charger that is probably low current and drove another hour and the phone was still cool.
I have not checked temperatures, but from the handling of the phone, it clearly did not feel warm.
So far, so good IMHO.
heating issues with essential phone
having heat issues when I'm using as a hotspot for video. nothing of concern.
Never had any heat issues on 7.1 or 8.1
