General: How Much Would It Cost Me to Assemble a Galaxy S6 Edge Myself? - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Seriously, How Much Would It Cost me to Assemble a Galaxy S6 Edge myself?
The prices are way too much for this year's models, and I'm pretty darn sure I can save a lot if I attempt to build my own S6 Edge, lol.

Are you serious? You think by buying components in drops of one. Then the Fw and sw to do everything the phone does will be cheap per than Samsung. Good luck with that one.

Good luck with that, the components alone will probably cost 50-100% more to buy without placing an order for several hundred thousand of each. It may only cost Samsung a fraction of the sales cost to build the phone but the spares market never reflects those lower costs. Then you have to assemble it, which according to the iFixit tear down / repairability score (3 out of 10) is not straightforward or easy.

I think the OP is thinking more of buying the motherboard, screen, battery and so in rather than purchasing individual diodes and capacitors.
Interesting idea? I may apply the same thinking to providing myself with a new Audi!

Op may I suggest something easier? Buy an s4. Paint it and make it look metallic, slap an apple logo at the back, delete the Samsung logo, and you have the iPhone 7 you will earn millions

Here we go.

considering you want to "build your own" s6 edge.
...
2 options
From scratch:
1 billion dollars to open a semiconductor foundry to produce the chips and electronics.
You can also use the foundry to make the screen so lets just lump it in there.
Another 1 billion dollars for R&D to remake/reverse engineer processor design.
Ordering parts:
The problem here is buying parts and miniaturizing so that it would fit in the same form factor. For example you might be able to buy a 16 MP sensor, but you will pay a premium cause your buying 1 instead of a costco-lot. Next you have to find a 16 MP that has OIS or integrate it yourself. Eventually after buying and integrating and manufacturing what you can, it will probably be still too big to most people's standards. Cost: 1000$ estimate at best.
Your friendly neighborhood, Electrical Engineer. (while these aren't concrete numbers, final story is it cost a lot more than the sum of its parts)

I mean to source parts such as the PCB. Digitizer, display, Battery, Chassis, Camera Modules, etc, etc. No way was I referring to the internal circuitry, lol. Radioshack is long gone now. Haha

TADA
EXACTLY :good:

Backplate ?

I recently saw the leatherlike backplate of a Blackberry. To have also a leather like backplate would be a nice third party addon to the Diamond 2 which lacks a bit of quality on the original shiny black plastic one.
http://www.wmexperts.com/alternate-back-touch-diamond-2
anyone know where to get this yet?
looks awesome! can't wait to get rid of this piano-black-fingerprint-magnet backplate.
any1 know more about this? i'd really like to buy one asap!
Alternate Back Cover
You can take you phone to a Plastic Paint workshop and ask then to add a Dull coat of paint. there are different standard and scale that goes from 1 to 10. 5 is best because when painted above the logo text and the metal piece arround the camera lens hole it, it will not affect their apperance. I have done so with my Diamond2 from the first day I got it. And it look now exactly as shown here : http://www.wmexperts.com/alternate-back-touch-diamond-2

Backplate
That's the easy part. Look at the yellow pages arround where you live. There should be lots of industrial companies that undertake prototype developpement or Just do paint job specialized in plastic for the industry.
You probably need to make few calls and one will lead you to another.....
wish you good luck. Mine cost me 20 dollars.

Guys,
Not sure if any of you have seen this but we now have a selection of new brushes available for painting using a Tablet.
Nomad Brushes
These brushes are being marketed for the iPad but as is in most of the case, what works on the iPad's screen should work with other Tablets.
Basically I came across this yesterday and immediately started off a communication with a UK seller to ascertain if these new painting brushes would work with 'non-iPad' Tablets.
This UK company I found gave an excellent follow-up where we exchanged several messages during the course of the morning.
The outcome being by 2PM I decided I had enough information from them and ordered a pack of two brushes directly from said UK company.
The brushes I ordered as a pack were the Nomad Brush Short Tip and the Nomad Brush Long Tip.
(You can see all the brushes from the UK seller here.
Those outside UK can obtain all four brushes direct from Nomadbrush here).
The twin pack I ordered can be found for sale here.
Note: By ordering the twin pack you have a reduction of £5.
Anyway, this morning, some 18hrs later both brushes turned up at my door.
I signed for the package, hurriedly took them out of their respective boxes, loaded up Sketchbook Pro and set about trying them out.
I am very (no make that ecstatically excited) pleased to report both brushes work superbly.
Using a stylus for painting is one thing but using one of these brushes is just sheer magic.
Am I happy...... you bet I am.
Okay... Sorry but for UK shoppers only; I have managed to secure a 10% discount on any purchases from the shop I received my Brushes from.
To obtain the code simply click on the link at the web site HERE and note the code given. This will then get you 10% off the purchase price.
ok ok ok. lets give it a few days to settle in. I hope after a few days go by and the magic pixy dust washes off you feel the same. But as with the Jot you can see the diff in alot of our attitudes after a few days.
I like to draw, sketch, etc - for fun and would be interested to get your feedback again after a few more days of your testing- please report back.

That is what I call a little bit of negativity.
Also, I don't do Magic Pixy Dust.... I do research.
Besides, these brushes don't require any pressure whatsoever, nor do they need to be held at a specific angle so they're not going to have the issues you found with the Adonit Jot Stylus.
You look at them, they look like a real brush, they feel like a real brush and with the right software they perform like a real brush.
I can not see how these are going to fail.
I'm also sorting out a 10% discount for UK shoppers if they wish to purchase from the company I received mine from.

I can see how you might have read it that way across the pond and all-- but i actually was poking fun at myself.
Meaning sometimes when you get a new product it is like they sprinkled magic pixy dust on it and no matter what you will think it is great until the dust wears off....
But seriously- i would like to hear how you feel about them a few days from now- and your results if you tried with other drawing apps- maybe supernotes drawing app part-( i know it doesnt compare to sketchbook)
Okay Guys..... I have managed to get a 10% discount going for any purchases off the sale price from ALL items from the UK Store I purchased my Brushes from.
Sorry, it is only with the UK Store.
P.S. Yes, I paid full price for my brushes but I am very happy with the service I received (both written & delivery). As such I am happy to recommend them.
See the foot of Post 1 for details.

What'yall think of this

http://www.engadget.com/2014/01/08/hisense-x1-smartphone/
Who in their right mind would buy a phone over about 5.5 in, any bigger and you look like a twat with it to tour ear
You know, I'd love the bigger screen, and those specs make it rival the Z Ultra. It's appearance also seems nice, though I've never heard of Hisense, so I have no clue about their build quality.
But... It's coming out in the Summer with those specs. What would roughly be a full year after the Z Ultra. By that point I'm hoping we either have or are hearing about (Depending on if we have a new chipset out that makes it worth the upgrade) a Z Ultra Refresh. Plus, the bezels on that thing look worse than the Z Ultra's- If people are complaining about those bezels now, this won't be drawing any support.
All that, and we haven't been told how big the screen is, which is arguably the sole draw of the Z Ultra.
Basically, unless it's hella cheap or is basically a nerd phone's dream (Something like 64GB internal storage AND an micro SD card slot) with a couple of other bells and whistles, I don't see this being a competition for the Z Ultra when it gets released.
Looked quite nice until I saw some of the images showing quite a gap between the plastic top (looks like aluminium) and the glass.
Then continuing to view the other images it looks like an old phone. Not that its worn, but that its dated. Like it should have been released last year.
Im still banking on the Z2 Ultra. Hoping it will have the issues ironed out. Namely the build, and components improved.
DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT.
Hisense is just one of dump Chinese phone producers in China. Their phones have bad quality and services. The phone comes with Android 4.2, maybe you won't get update to 4.4 for rest of your life. Since the user group is small, there is rarely custom roms and do not even think of CM.
Who? Those that want screens bigger than 5.5 and are secure enough not to give a f**k what other people think when talking on them.

Wasn't aware of that if it's truly the Hisense product history.
The device will be released by Sliver in the US and with 4.4 according to reps at CES.
Hardest thing would be leaving this hardware...which is the classiest thing in the industry.
And I agree...banking on the Ultra2 can't be a bad strategy. Wonder about overall sales tho, given the small niche this size device serves, and if it'd prompt Sony to even release an Ultra2.

I really don't mind big phones that's why I bought the ultra. but if this phone do not offers nothing better then the ultra but a bigger screen.... no I don't think so. but if it offers good specs then i'll see.

Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Enclosure with Vesa mount?

So we have a use case for these at work and I'm chomping at the bit to buy 20 or more of them except... I have no enclosure to mount them in. I've scoured the internets up and down trying to find a enclosure that has vesa mounting options. Preferably I would like a stainless enclosure but I would take acrylic or molded plastic.
I'm looking for something like Armor Active or Galaxy Enclosures makes. I've reached out to Armor Active and they've sent it to engineering for preliminary pricing on a stainless enclosure. I of course would be paying the majority of the initial design costs for something they'll then be able to sell to everyone. Hooray for the bleeding edge!
Anyways, if you 12.2 fans come across anything with vesa mounting let me know. At this point I would even consider using something like a rugged Gumdrop or Otterbox case and drilling holes for mounting as a temp solution. Let me know any thoughts or if anyone knows another company that makes stainless/acrylic/molded enclosures.

Update:
Today I handed over our sole Note Pro 12.2 and a check for $10k to Armor Active. Our total build is going to be 100 enclosures plus development costs and tooling. We increased our development costs by $1.5k by adding a gasket spec to the casing around where the screen meets the screen opening. The environment it's in has quite a bit of moisture and potential for damp hands. I'm hoping this helps out the long term durability of the 12.2's.
Unfortunately we probably won't see a delivery till late April to mid May. I've bought some Tab 10.1 enclosures from Galaxy Enclosures to sub in for about 12 units in the mean time. Those lack a gasket and I already anticipate they'll lead to a few moisture failures.
I'll take pictures as soon as I have a prototype. As for Samsung supporting the enterprise space... Well I hope they have a division wanting to give me a price break on a hundred Tab Pro 12.2's when they are released!

I received the prototypes today. I'm pretty happy with them. They're definately very heavy duty. This is a Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2 mounted in one. It will also fit a Note Pro 12.2.
The only thing missing is the gasket for the front faceplate.

Premium/Expensive Note 3 Cases

Hey guys,
Does anyone know of a company or any specific cases for the Note 3 that are in are extremely premium and in a league above the rest (price-wise as well).
I've been looking for luxury cases for a while now, but nothing has come up.
I'd appreciate any help. Happy to pay in the hundreds of dollars (please no comments about how ridiculous it is to spend so much money on a case. Everyone is different and if you have the money it's your choice what to do with it).
Thanks!

These brands do have phone cases, but it's not sold in every country, I do agree with you, if you are on the streets you do look silly, as many will regards them as fakes.
I prefer a premium unbranded one, and many cases made with real leather can give you that feel.
This one cost me USD 6 made with real leather.
also the one with aluminum with leather back linked in the 2nd post that I have cost only USD 15.

I guess if you like the design, but whenever I see people with these fake Gucci, LV phone cases I just chuckle because it looks rather silly.

That's true but most people don“t know that. I'll just say it's custom made so it'll match my wallet and belt!

You can also say it's illegal and infringing copyright, there used to many shops in china selling these, but they have been reduced during these years, may be people don't wants these any more, and with pressure from these companies, they are forced to close.
