[Q] Unroot Z2 Tab - Xperia Z2 Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just picked up a Z2 tab off ebay specifically so I can remote play to my PS4. The damn thing is rooted and wasn't mentioned in the description. How can I unroot this so I can get it updated and download the remote play app. Currently it doesn't show up in the app store I'm assuming because it isn't updated. It still has 4.4.2 on it. Thanks.

Who knows what the seller did to it in terms of mods....just flash it back to complete stock using an FTF file and Flashtool, It will be back like if you turned it on fresh out of the box.

Where do I get the FTF file from and how do I know if it's the right one?

Go to your tablet's Settings >> About Tablet >> Model Number. There you will find your specific model.
Here is a link to a nice app that will download the firmware you need as long as its available. (you will need to create the FTF yourself once downloaded as if it was downloaded from PC Companion itself)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/cro...xperifirm-xperia-firmware-downloader-t2834142
Here is a tutorial on how to flash a FTF
http://www.gizmobolt.com/2015/04/09...z3-23-1-a-0-690-ftf-using-flashtool-manually/
Here is a link explaining how to create an FTF
http://www.xperiablog.net/2014/08/1...re-files-using-xperifirm-and-flashtool-guide/
Everything is quite easy once you start playing around... All this should get you started .. Good luck!

That did the trick! Now I can get my remote play app! Thanks!

[Q] 4.0.2.A.0.42_CN not letting me install my apps

Hi there.
I believe this is my first post, however I have been reading the xda forums for over a year.
I'm after some advice regarding my device Xperia Neo MT15i. I upgraded to ICS but it doesn't seem to work very well on my phone, ever since then I have been trying to find working ftf files of gingerbread so i can downgrade. I have downloaded a few global versions through these forums but none seem to work in flashtool 0.9.10.1 , where the list of files should be it's just blank. With the file list being blank, is that a flashtool problem, or just broken files?
Last night I found a newly updated thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1952333 with a version .42 file that actually works in flashtool, however it's a chinese version and a separate global kernel. The problem I now have is that google app store doesn't recognise my phone , or isn't communicating so I can't get any apps. There's no google store app, or google mail or anything in this version. The only way I can get to the app store is via phone or pc browser but trying to install apps does nothing, the apps I want say they are already installed or greyed out.
Basically the chinese gingerbread ftf renders my phone pretty much useless, so is there a working global ftf version of gingerbread still in existence?

[Q] THL W3+ Jellybean Update

So I have had the THL W3+ (dual core) for months now and I have to admit that it is a great phone. However, I believe that it would run a million times better with Jellybean installed. It comes with ICS and there has been no update released (right?)
So I was wondering if there was any way to get Jellybean on this device. It runs the MTK6577 processor on which Jellybean has been installed on other phone so I don't see why the W3+ hasn't got the update yet.
Thanks in advance!

I guess we have to wait for ThL to release an update, or wait for someone who can help us port jellybean.
I'm a novice but if I happen to successfully port jellybean, I'll post the link

Thank you, that would be great! I wish I could help but I'm a newbie. I just know the technical jargon.
However, I just stumbled on a result on google in which a customer review said that "since the just new jelly bean update" the phone runs much smoother? I don't even know how to check for an update because I don't have the option under Settings > About Phone.

There's no option to check for update in the phone menus.
The update will be posted on their website http://en.thl.com.cn/Download/Index.html
About the review you came across, I've also seen it before.
Being desperate for jellybean update, I even registered on that website in order to contact the person who made that comment.
But I was dissapointed as the name wasn't clickable despite registration.
Right now, I even doubt that comment cos I've searched extensively for jellybean without success.
Maybe the person doesn't know how to check Android version.

Any firmware you suggest? The one that came with my phone had issues with the G-Sensor and the update the official website offers doesn't let me have apps like Viber and Grindr.

The firmware that came with my phone allowed Viber. And it's the same version on the website. You should click on "w3 dual core version" not "w3 upgrade" as that upgrade is meant for the MT6575 single core version only.
I saw a comment on the firmware talking about G sensor. I think it would fix your problem. it says " Oct. 8, 2012 update: 1. Optimize the shooting effect of rear camera; 2. Improve the compatibility of the G-sensor to solve the problems of some gravity sensor failure; "
Right now I'm using a firmware labeled ThL.w3.121113.6577.COM.EN
I got it from a Russian forum where they claimed it was the latest official firmware (contrary to what I saw in the linkhttp://en.thl.com.cn/Download/Index.html I posted earlier)
Before I recommend a firmware, what version are you running currently?

I'm finding it difficult flashing this ROM since I'm not sure which ZIP file to flash. There are no ZIP files, only RARs. And they include unnecessary stuff like USB VCOM DRIVER
Edit:
I think I will keep this frimware (the one I said I got from needrom). I just flashed gapps so App store works great. I'd love it if you could post when the Jelly Bean update comes out. I believe this phone could be great with a little more support. Jelly Bean would make it so much more smooth!

ok, I assumed you knew how to flash using SP Flash Tool.
Anyway this is the link to the firmware http://yadi.sk/d/pSQ23rqr29rai
It can only be flashed using SP Flash tool. not from recovery as you did with your current ROM.
if you don't know how to use the tool, you might need to wait for jellybean update.
But hey... even if they release jellybean won't it be in the same format as the one you just got from their site?
they even bundled it with sp Flash tool.

I actually just learned to use it. That comment about the Jelly Bean update format being the same made me REALLY motivated.

Can you help me reinstall this phone's recovery without using recovery mode? Is that possible at all? Because at this point recovery mode keeps flashing purple colours like the screen goes really weird and all I can do is just restart the phone back into the OS. And the latest firmware doesn't have google apps such as the play store so I need to flash those, but without recovery working I can't.

That happened to me too when I flashed a recovery I downloaded.
The latest firmware I flashed overwrote the recovery to the default.
I'm pretty sure the official firmware you downloaded will solve the problem cos it's exactly the same version that shipped with my phone (version; Oct. 8, 2012). Viber and play store worked perfectly.
In case you only want the recovery back, here's how:
to flash a recovery using sp Flash tool.
what you need is an image file called recovery.img and a scatter file.
1. Create a new folder. Preferably in a path without special characters (just to be safe). example C:\User\recovery
2. Locate these two files inside the official firmware you downloaded, and extract them into the created folder.
recovery.img and MT6577_Android_scatter_emmc.txt
Switch off your phone and Do not connect phone to PC yet.
3. Run the Flash Tool and click on Scatter-loading and point it to the MT6577_Android_scatter_emmc.txt file
4. Only the RECOVERY option should be ticked by now.
5. Click on download then connect your phone using the USB cable.
It would download the recovery image to your phone and show a green circle as sign of completion.
That's it.
EDIT: Don't forget to backup your data
EDIT 2: Since you want to flash the official firmware, it will automatically repair your recovery.
in that case just skip steps 1-2 and start from step 3 above and when you get to step 4, all the options will be ticked.

returning to stock

can someone please direct me to returning my device back to stock and getting rid of root through the menu. I have the verizon version.
Flash latest firmware with Sony PC Companion.
That should do it.
Does that have the latest firmware on the website or do I have to locate my self?
PC Companion fetches the latest firmware for your region.
Oh, just saw that you have a Verizon model. Not sure if you can use PC Companion or if you need some other Verizon tool then... try and see if it recognizes your tablet.
As far as I know it doesn't. But oddly the old Sony updater tool does. U can find it at pediasoft or other download locations. Worked for mine.

The latest pc companion doesn't work for our Verizon devices. But the older and no longer used update service program does reset our devices for us. Just need to find the newest one, I think they stopped using it in April or February. I got mine from softpedia, but download it from where u can find it and trust. I just searched for it and that was the best looking one. Sony no longer supports this program, but it reset my tablet back to stock no problem.

1-first you need to unlock your device bootloader , on the phone, go to Settings > About Device then scroll down to find Build number and tap it 7 times to enable Developer Mode
2-next go to Settings > Developer options then set OEM unlocking to on
Then try with Odin
Thanks
Can we get an updated version? Normally I'd download from sam site but 1.5gb download with free account at 15kbs is ridiculous. You'd think they would provide better bandwidth for their support site and not try to have you pay a subscription...

I use SamFirm (here is a direct link if needed), it downloads the firmware from Samsung's servers and decodes the file to a flashable format.
Use "SM-J700P" in the model box, and one of these three region codes in the "Region" box
VMU - Virgin Mobile
SPR - Sprint
BST - "Australia (Boost Mobile) (BST)" is what it says on updato.com (formerly sammobile.com)
XAS - I have looked in threads on XDA and found that this is the "unlocked" version, use at your own risk, probably has the least bloat.
Or if your phone is still functioning download this handy little app that will tell you everthing you need to enter to get an update for your current FW.
Make sure the checkbox beside "Auto" is checked and click "Check Update" now go to the right panel, click the checkbox for "Decrypt automatically" and click "Download"
There ya go, I tried to make it as simple as possible and to give you the details you need, because I'm dumb and miss out on the obvious sometimes, so I make sure no one has that issue.

Just bought a z2 and can't download Sony apps like remote play

I bought a used Sony xperia z2 phone on eBay installed with nougat and lineage. The only reason I bought a z2 is so I can play ps4 remote play, Is there any way to downgrade and get a lower stock firmware? Any help would be great

You can make your own FTF file easily with xperifirm and flashtool. Or you can find a proper ftf file for your device in forum.

Download the correct version (D6502 or D6503)
Then flash it using flashtool
