[Q] Remove default GPRS network - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All
I have an ex T-Mobile HTC HD2 running windows 6.5 and connected to O2.
Mostly everything works fine except . . . . .
When I try to download an MMS message the phone tries to use the T-Mobile network and as this is not set up, it doesn;t work.
It tries to use t-Mobile even when connected to wifi
I have tried getting onto the network manager but all the T-Mobile settings are greyed out. and there is no option to delete the entry (edit, press and hold gives no options).
Network manager is set to use O2 (Connect to internet and Private network)
So, please, how do I get rig of T-Mobile and default to O2.
I presume it some registry hack?

Try downloading & install this connection settings tool by HTC >
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=565785&d=1302516709
Once installed it will have a shortcut link in Settings, Connections, Connection Setup
Run it & choose country 'UK' & network provider 'O2' *be sure choose postpay or prepay*
It should load all setting including MMS.
If have issues post back for more help.
Another good option would be debranding your HD2 with either standard generic HTC ROM or Custom ROM such as Energy, links can be found in HD2 Wiki > http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_HD2#ROM_Development

Thanks for that.
Sadly not a huge success. cab downloaded and installed.
Run, reset, set up connection, reset etc
Eventually Settings, Connections, Connection Setup select O2 postpay and another restart just in case
Then
Wireless Controls, Data Connection, but it wont conect. (Slider wont go green)
Wifi Conection greyed out.
Total mess.
Back to Conection Setup and check but its set to UK, O2 postpay
I have Data Controller installed but that allows all O2 (MMS postpay and mobile web)
At least I could access the www before
How do I get out of this mess

I would try removing data controller as that has some known issues of messing up the connection settings in registry.
I use GB-SOFT GPRS UMTS tweak which auto disconnects gprs when not used (set time to zero).
So in review >
remove Data controller & soft reset
Go into Settings>Connections>Connections>select 'manage existing connections' & delete any settings remaining
re-run Connection Setup & see if works !
I've never had trouble on provider roms such as T-Mobile so assume will be messy registry problem.
If no joy, post again & I will try dig up a guide & settings for O2 for manually trying input GPRS & MMS.
Good fix would be Custom WM6.5.5 such as one in my signature.

hhhmmm struggling. I can find no sensible way of uninstalling the Data controller. There is no entry on the list of programs to uninstall and I cant identify a directory.
There is a shortcut that points to \Windows\DataController.exe but is removing the program enough?
Good news is that I can Wireless stuff now works (My fault, I had forgotten they dont work when usb is connected to PC) So the only problem is MMS. Mor efiddling around, reran the HTC thing. Deleted an old connection and reboote a couple of times and eventually it worked.
And they call this a science!!
Thanks for you help

^ So is MMS now working !
If not I will post a manual MMS settings guide I have for WM6.5 somewhere.
Just removing the datacontroller.exe wouldn't be enough really, what really wanted is registry for it removed.
From your comments sounds like was mainly dirty connection settings in registry.
Data & MMS connections can be bit of a pain in WM6.5 but once learned manually or if the htc connections settings tool works perfectly they are better than android or iphone for flexibility & control.

How to disable data from auto-connecting?!

I've been using DCD 3.0.1 for a bit now, it's the only custom ROM this phone has seen, and I use TomTom Navigator 6 for trips, it works great! However, anytime I try to use TomTom Navigator 6, something in my phone tries to connect to #777 (data), then, because I don't have a data plan, it comes at me with a 'cannot connect for an unknown reason' bubble, which disables TomTom and freezes it in the background.. the bubble doesn't go away on it's own and I get this annoying 'cannot connect for an unknown reason' bubble at least 15 times per minute.
Anyone know how I can fully disable (not permanently) the phone from attempting to connect to the wireless data network?
-mak
I disabled the DATA connection (not wifi) on my HTC P4000 by modifying the registry. Look here:
http://www.slimcode.com/cs/blogs/ma...g-data-connection-on-an-htc-p4000-device.aspx
Looks great! How do I access the registry on this phone?

EDIT: Downloaded an app, done.. seems to be working well, thanks!

Hmmm, I didn't have that CDMA1X key, but that may be because I had already gone into into the Advanced Settings under Connections, edited my provider's internet connection, deleted its entry under Modem, and then deselected its connection to the internet under Proxy Settings.
If lacking a registry editor, that also disables automatic network connectivity.
Software App
Try NoData - This utility allows you to toggle the data connection when needed. However, it resets itself to "enabled" on a soft reset.
This might be a little too much but hey it works.
What I did was to go into the EPST settings by dialing ##778 ( Verizon -- Sprint or other might use a diffrent one )
and went into the modem settings and changed the Preferred mode to CDMA only.
This will kill all data connections and leave your normal voice / sms connection intact.
Once again this might be too much. ( I don't use the data connection that much / pure WiFi)
But if you want to disable wireless data on TOM TOM
go to the Main Menu -- Tom Tom PLUS Services -- and once your in this menu you will see an option to Disable or Enable Wireless Data.
Just disable it and you should be good.

Tethering: Sprint Not A Choice In Network Connection In ISC

I've looked all over here, PPCGeeks and Google for a fix for this but couldn't find a thing. When I go into ISC, Sprint isn't an option in the Network Connections menu. All I see is CDMA1X. Isn't that the slower network you default to when 3g or whatever isn't available? I've installed the tethering cab and the ICS cab to no avail. I'd really appreciate any help with this. Thanks.
I had to use a registry editor. Go to HKLM\Comm\InternetSharing\Settings and change the ForceCellConnection to Sprint.
There's also an entry to delete under HKLM\Comm\InternetSharing\????.dll
I forgot what the dll entry value is, but you need to delete it. Powercycle the phone and you should be good to go! Bluetooth PAN as well as USB works for me.
1) The registry fix will allow to select (if deleted) which connection to use, or to use Sprint exclusively (if changed to "Sprint").
2) Start data connection manually before using ISC - one easy way is from Comm Manager.
I don't know if deleting the .dll key does anything. Maybe it helps with 2). But when I do 1) and 2), my ISC works.
If I don't do 2), it tries to dial the Sprint PCS connection and fails.
I didn't have to install any cabs.
I'm cooking a ROM and after I get it installed, I'll see if the hacks available fix the problem. I'll report back. Thanks for the replies.

[Q] How to Delete Internet Settings in HD2

Hi Fella's...
I have this lovely crystal piece, where I played a bit with internet connection settings to get it worked.
I setup few Internet settings in a new profile, as couldn't get it worked, so deleted until i succeeded, now whenever I try to create a connection with the same name, it says connection already exists, where as i deleted it, and cannot found any settings.
However, When i click on WI-Fi router, It ask me to select one internet settings from the ones which are currently there and the ones which have been deleted.
My query here is, How do i completely those internet settings?
NB: Please, do not ask me hard reset, as there is lot of info. in phone and can't afford to loose them.
turn off wifi (just for simplicity)
then
settings - menu - all settings - connections - wifi - wireless networks
You should see
search for networks
your defined network1
your defined network2
your defined network3
press and hold teh one you want to remove and a popup should come up, choose remove settings
Sorry, I must have confused you somewhere...
The Internet setting which i want to delete, relates to Data connection, and not Wifi...
Although the deleted data connection settings seems to appear when you want to use your mobile as wifi router and ask you to select one of the deleted and current setting to use it for sharing your data connection.
I will sooner paste a screen shot of it...
ah ok, , settings, menu, all settings, connections, connections, advanced, select networks,
open the top dropdown, you should see them all listed, change the dropdown to the one you want rid of, choose edit, press and hold, choose delete
Dont forget to change that top dropdown back to the good one you wanna use.
Having the same problem, found no solution!! HELP!
Hi unoimgr8st, I am having same problem. I deleted my old Network setups (WAP GPRS MMS) but when I try to creat new ones with same name (even though I deleted em) I get a msg error that says "a conection with that name already exists!). When I get into the WiFi Router, I see that all my old connections deleted from the advance tab, still show there in the Router !!!! Any ideas? or just Hard Reset?

[Q] Flashed new Rom, Internet help?

Hey,
Just this moment finished flashing Chucky's ROM onto my Virgin Media HD2 (UK)
Downloaded radio 2.14.50 before hand
I can call people fine but i have no internet connectivity, I'm on a contract with unlimited Internet so i can't afford to lose it!
Have i done something wrong?
Would really appreciate some help!
Cheers guys
give the phone a good 24 hours on the new rom thats how it happened for me my only problem is that every radio i flash is having the same echo problem
Does it mean anything if i actually can connect to the Internet, but Opera 9.7 and 10 both wont?
I tried internet explorer and could reach a few pages.
Tried both versions of Opera (My preferred browser!) and keep getting internal server errors on any page!
I'm on Virgin
settings, wireless controls, data connection, is it on? if not tap on the left of data, menu, updata data base current operator
then after the update, go back to data connection, tap on the off/on box it should go to on
when you flash, all you network providers settings are over written You need to reset them on the phone so now you need to set up mms as weel, try sending one after you have set up data
Thanks for the replies guys,
Actually before i saw the above post, i went to check Virgins site for info and they had manual settings that i used. So now my data connection is active with those settings and emails, intnernet seems to be working.
It's just opera that isn't. I've tried the whole Opera:config thing and disabling auto connect box but nothing!
It doesn't bother me that much it's just i've always found opera mobile to be more fluent than IE!

[Q] Data connection turns itself on unprompted

On Comm Manager I find that if I have my carrier's GPRS settings installed then the data connection will turn itself on whenever some program or other sneakily phones home. The only resolution I can find is the 'wrecking bar solution' of removing the GPRS connection altogether from the connection options.
Unfortunately that means using GPRS, when I occasionally need it, is a very cumbersome process of having to install and then remove the settings each time.
I tried the 'Manila Dial-up enable/disabler' mentioned in another thread, but I find that this, rather than correcting the problem, just duplicates the 'wrecking bar solution' in that with it activated I can't turn GPRS Data on at all. If I deactivate dialup disabler, then as you might expect Data turns on unprompted at the next phone-home incident. Surprisingly though, and rather uselessly, when I reactivate the dialup disabler it doesn't turn Data off! So although well-intentioned this is a rather broken solution. It doesn't achieve the requirement, which is:
Data switch on: GPRS activated.
Data switch off: GPRS deactivated.
I say to myself, SUUURELY there has to be a better answer to this? The situation is a bit like going back to the 90's with analog modems dialling unprompted and racking-up a huge bill. Seems OS programmers never learn from previous design blunders.
Have a look for what doing it, check gps software for updating satellite options, check weather app & such like.
I find GPRS on WM6.5 perfect because can easily find and stop things automatically connecting to data with bit of a hunt & also use likes of dialup enabler disabler or GB-Soft Tweak to auto disconnect connections after short a time as 1 second of zero data.
I have mine setup with GPRS always enabled but not connected, I have no rouge app sneaking a connection but even if did it would auto disconnect meaning minimal data usage charge, also this way I can simply manually check a mail plus have my mail on a schedule & the data usage is absolute minimal thus so is the battery drain due to GPRS data use.
Not so easy on Android or iOS as have to turn data off or it milks your connection constantly.
Do some research & feel free ask more questions as this should be easily sorted .
Also perhaps take a look at the modaco nodata app
http://www.1800pocketpc.com/modaco-nodata-turn-mobile-internet-hspda-gprs-3g-edge-off/
Yet another option is Advanced Config, this has options turn data off & also set time out for auto disconnect ... menu > more settings > connections .
More options are:
Go to: Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Advanced -> Select Networks
then create a new connection without any Modem settings. And select that connection as your default Data connection.
Registry control
In the registry you’ve got the following key:
HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections
There are all your data connections.
Go inside every data connection and you’ll find a key “Enabled”.
This key has a value 0×1 (1) or 0×0 (0) - 1 means it the selected GPRS setting option & enabled, setting to 0 will disable this GPRS setting.
You could use mortscipt to make a custom toggle for your specific data connection. we can help here in this thread or go to the mortscript thread for help completing a custom data toggle script application.
CABs all added below as a lot of the WM5 to 6.5 stuff is leading to dead links .
