[ROM] [5.1] [LMY47I] [4/22/2015] l33t 1.0.2 based on STOCK! - Nexus 6 Android Development

So after years of flashing ROMs and kernels and owning so many android devices, some may call me crazy, I've finally decided to make a ROM for myself and share it with the public on XDA!
This ROM is all about simplicity, lightweight, being equipped with the right software, no crashes, speed, a nice minimal default theme, yadda yadda yadda.
I'll be posting nightly releases until I get everything just right, in the meantime hopefully by sharing these builds, I can get some feedback from you guys.
What works? Everything. What doesn't work? Nada.
Screenshots available in the screenshots section (link above post)
Latest Release: 1.0.2 - DOWNLOAD LINK
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=30025
Make sure to flash SuperSU afterwards if you would like root.
Comes with ZenKernelv17 boot.img built-in, and I *highly", recommend you leave it at that.
Check the ZenKernel thread for updates:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/orig-development/3-10-zen1-dollar-drink-night-bfs-msm-t3062814
The default settings are all good. Double-tap to wake is enabled by default.
I promise, next release I'll also put up a thank-you list to a few developers out there! Enjoy

Nice, congrats on your first ROM.

Thank you and thanks for letting me use your kernel its the absolute best! I used to always go w/BFS kernels, I think it was on my Evo4G I believe

Thanks for your energy and contribution to the N6 community.
Edit: I'm major Zen kernel user. Great inline choice.

Looks epic, but what is "zen kernel"?

Check out the thread in the OP I linked it. Its kinda like replacing a v6 mustang engine with a v8 that uses up half the gas for some odd reason o.0

nice build. very clean, snappy and stable. Look forward to future updates. Thanks for the ROM

How did you get into making the ROM did you follow a guide or? How hard is it I'd like to have a go my self

Well it depends if you want to build an AOSP ROM from source or just base it off stock like I did. This project originally started with AOSP but then I converted most of my changes into stock.

i love double tap to wake. did you add anything for screen off. i am liking long-press back.:good:

okay so, how would i go about just basing it off stock?

Well first thing you'll want to do is set up this tool called "apktool" I don't know if there are easier ways nowadays but that's what I use. Its a Java app so it'll work on any OS you're running.. What OS do you have running on your computer?

Actually long press back was supposed to be released on my next nightly.. Did I upload the wrong build? Lol I have builds scattered all around my desktop and documents folder, I usually look for the newest one by sorting by date modified lol really confusing.

Thing is, because this project started off AOSP, I used some files and apps from AOSP and mixed it in with stock ROM after stripping it down, that's how ingot the web browser and stuff, but other than that, its mostly using apktool to edit files ..
And knowing what files do in a ROM, knowing what they're used for, knowing what you can remove or add, I think building a ROM from source will teach you a lot, there's a good guide I used for that by Stephen, you can search for the thread

Well I'm probably running the worst os for this sort of thing, I'm on mac

Anyone know how to disable double tap to wake as i have no need for it. Tried different kernel managers but settings don't stick. I looked in his kernel thread but didn't find anything. Any help in permanently turning this kernel feature off appreciated.

It does. Just don't mess with ART lol.
Fixing to give this a try... Wish me luck, lol!
Eager to try this.. waiting to reach home so that I can d/l it.
Also, bit curious, what happened to your other thread (I think.. Unity ROM1.0)?
I'm up and running. It's so smooth and haven't run into one problem yet. Loved the "easier" installation process and ability to customize installed apps.

It had a few names actually. Couldn't find a good one lol. It was just Project Unity by the end. What happened was I needed help doing something to make my ROM different from CM Official in some positive meaningful way and after banging my head against a wall basically trying everything I could think of to do this and after getting nowhere for too long I had the ROM taken down till there was a change like this.
But was noted as one of the most reliable AOSP/CM ROMs available for Evo LTE which is why I had to bring it back up with GCC 4.8 & O3 optimizations once I noticed the difference during my initial tests.
Wow. Thanks LiquidSmoke. This is by far the most stable 4.4.4 Rom that I have used so far. Data is working perfectly. I s on Dirty Unicorns 7.9 but, data was retarded, lol. They should take some notes from you. Again thanks for the BEST Kit Kat Rom available for our aging but still dope devices.

Well it's only getting better too. I'm adding in some more build optimization flags now. And once those are done I'm going to try of add the -fstrict-aliasing flag but that one is a real pain but worth the effort to get in there.

I can't get "Ok Google" voice command to work on this ROM even though it is enabled from the Google Now settings. What can I do? I am almost certain that this has nothing to do with this ROM... but I thought I would give it a shot!

I managed to get it to work. I followed these steps:
1- I uninstalled Google Search using Titanium Backup
2- I reinstalled Google Search from the Play Store. At this point, saying Ok Google only works on the Google Now screen.
3- I downloaded and installed Google Now Launcher.
Voila! It works from the home screen and all the usual places where it should.

Flashing this now. It's nice to see AOSP roms coming out for the WiFi after nearly a year!
OK Shawn, I had a little trouble flashing with TWRP 2.6.3.3... It failed and gave me the lt03wifieu name problem. I had this same problem with the CyanogenMod 11 - Note 10.1 (2014) WiFi build. So I replaced the updater-script with the one Hitman 1376 posted here~~> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56566181&postcount=32 and it flashed successfully. However when I was going through the setup, I kept getting an error to re install Google plus. I had to delete it with root explorer because it wouldn't go away. Anyhow, everything is running smooth now. :good: excellent job!
Okay so I just flashed it. Few issues:
1) As the post above mentioned there is a constant notification of google+ failing to install, I had to disable the app.
2) I can't find the google play store lol..I don't think that was installed.
3) 5 Ghz Wifi doesn't work - any 5 Ghz networks are not detected.
Other than that, good rom! Hopefully these issues get worked out cause I would love stock Android on my tablet .
thanks for the bug report....just updated the changelog for v1.1... will uploadthe rom latter today

Excellent. Loaded and running nicely after editing updater script. Is the updater edit part of the new room iteration?
I love it!!
@Shawn5162
Thanks for this rom. Before I flash, I have a few questions. Does S Pen work in portrait mode? In other AOSP roms it doesn't work, only in landscape moded. Does this have the 'sleep of death' issue like other aosp roms? Lastly, what apps did you remove from the rom? Thanks in advance, and keep up the great work :good:
Hey Shawn,
Thanks for updating so fast. It's even better now. Some updates after brief testing:
1) So as suspected, the Pen is broken in portrait mode like it is for the other CM rom out there - not a big deal for me since I don't use it much in portrait right now anyway. It would be nice if one of the devs figured out why that's happening.
2) The 5 Ghz wifi wasn't working for me still, but I believe it's due to the regions or something like that. I had a similar issue in another ROM I flashed last night and the dev found a fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56693315&postcount=157 - that worked for me.
That's after about 15 mins or so of using this ROM. I will be using it for a few days and let you know if I find anything else.
Thanks!

As you all may know, Android development is not easy. With that said, anyone can learn how to do this stuff. It takes a lot of time and trial and error but it pays off in the end. Having started learning all this I now have 100 times more respect for the real developers that have doing such a wonderful job bringing all this stuff to our mobile devices. They put in hours of work to make all this happen. Please always give the utmost respect to any Mod, Dev or other users here on XDA or any site committed to Android. I want to encourage everyone to not just be a user but try to learn some cool new stuff in the process.

[ROM] UltimaROM-Shamu - LMY47Z - 5.1.1 - 20150630

UltimaROM-Shamu
Information
Welcome to UltimaROM. Some of you may know me from the S3 and S4, some of you may not. This is the first time I've managed to get UltimaROM on an actual Nexus device, despite spending a long time on TouchWiz devices, making them more AOSP-like.
I got this device a couple of days ago, so bare with me while I acclimatise!
Features
OTA Updates (handled by RomHut)
Forced encryption disabled (requires data wipe once)
Stock kernel (for now, you may choose another)
Xposed
Xposed is not supported. You may install it. It may work. But I will not support any Xposed related questions or requests. I will never bundle it with the ROM.
Download
Android Lollipop 5.1.1
Download UltimaROM-Shamu 20150630 here
fda5706978e91c17109cfc18a29ce751
Github: here
Note:
SuperSU is not included by default. I toyed with this idea, and figured it best to leave that up to you to root if you so wish. Many of the intended features of this ROM will work ok without root.
Installation instructions
TWRP 2.8.7.1 or greater is preferred. CWM should be considered "abandoned" these days
Copy the ROM files to your device (I prefer to keep a folder especially for anything ROM related)
Choose "install" in TWRP
Locate this ROM
(Optional) Queue up some other files like SuperSU
Flash

It's literally just a stock ROM right now, as you can see from the changelog. But you have the OTA app if you install and will get OTA's as and when I update with newer features I will deodex, debloat and start adding some proper features soon, I was just excited to post an UltimaROM thread again!
I'm in!
Loved your stuff for my old S4. Awesome to see you in a N6 now!
Think I'm going to give this a go. One question in future of the development are you going to be a adding a theme engine. If so will it be CM or Layers. I only ask as I almost always use layers. Many thanks

Yep, but I really need to get the LYZ28E build deodexed to be able to do anything meaningful with the ROM. Hoping the guys that did the three Deodex'd build will be willing to share their method.
All flashed and so far so good. Did u see my post about the theme engine.

I didn't, but I have now. Erm, AFAIK, there is no way to use CM Theme Engine on these ROMs. I'd like to get Layers working as I intend on theming some apps myself.

If you add layers to it then I will 100% stick with you for it. The guy who brought layers to android is on G+ and from all accounts a really good guy. I'll link you to his community so you can have a look.

Matt, too the best of my knowledge, it would be an almost insurmountable challenge to get stock 5.1.1 in a position to support layers...it's either hard coded themed stock apps or an AOSP based rom if you want a theme platform.
With the advent of M, all of this changes, as RRO appears to be inclusive, so Layers and other platforms that take advantage RRO will work natively.
Ask @daveyannihilation, as I'm certain that he'd love to drone on endlessly about what an incredible guy he is.

These donations are not for me but for @elginsk8r
I do not maintain these roms so ask him if you need help!
I am currently working on a Cyanogenmod 14 for this device and it will be done by almost the end of the year or longer. Depends so hitting the Thanks button will encourage me to finish the Cyanogenmod rom faster and more accurately with dedication.

Did you ask permission to post this?
There could be reasons why devs don't post their work for general public release in device forums.
Also if we are going to credit the rom then the original author @deadman96385 should be recognized.

@deadman96385 didn't make this rom, he made a rom for SM-T550. @elginsk8r made SM-T350. Also, the rom was posted before there was a Samsung Galaxy Tab A Series forum.

I think you'll find the original sources are from @deadman96385 repo.
Irrespective of that it's still prudent to ask the current developer for permission.

No, the original author is me, deadman and i ported both devices at the same time using evervolv sources.
But this kid did not ask for permission, so could the mod close this thread?

Sorry for posting this thread without permission. But anyways I am not a "kid". That is very rude if you think of it in my perspective.

I wouldn't take it personally. It's just a term to describe someone, I don't think elginsk8r actually meant you were a kid. [emoji6]

Would have been awesome...

Well I went ahead and tried this build anyways and it boots fine. Video and audio is working. It's a bit sluggish at times but I think that could be solved with A little work on the kernel. As long as I didn't over do it with the apps installed it ran very nicely though. I really hope that the original dev (who is a genius in my mind) keeps working on this port. I would be more than willing to do the testing and am used to logcats. Just let me know. And thank you for sharing.
i tried this the other day and i like it. but there are a couple of bugs that i found. when installing Gapps Google Music stops working on boot which i removed because i don't use it anyway. And no cameras work on it at all. all apps fail to load camera. other than that i like it. i hope someone works on this more or makes newer roms for this device.

I will be keeping my fingers crossed too. This is a good tablet. I picked up the Tab 3 t110 last year around Christmas and it too has almost no development. At least this tab has a ported CM based rom to tinker with. A good stock rooted rom would be nice too. I will be watching this thread to see if it goes anywhere.

Yea it would be nice for development on this. I have a stock rooted ROM that I rooted my self, I debloated it installed Xposed frameworks and Magiskv9. And it runs great.

That is what I am looking for too a zip of the stock rooted firmware. I can debloat it myself but its the zip that I wish I knew how to get or make.
Currently running Evervolv on my t350. Over joyed to have found a Rom and development on this device, I had lost hope for it. Thanks to everyone especially the dev.
I finally got this ROM to run very smoothly and everything is working as it should. Camera, videos, audio and Bluetooth all working. About the only thing that isn't that great is battery consumption but I think as the rom settles in it may get better. I hope that the original dev decides to officially support the t350 with his build of Evervolve. So far so good. Even the theme engine worked flawlessly.

the cameras and everything work on this out of the box, or did you need to do something to get them to work?

They worked without moding anything. But it wasn't an easy install... Lol.. I would add an app or two and let it go for a while. Doing it that way it worked great. The only issue was the battery usage. It wasn't good at all but if we had a kernel that would allow for tweaking, I think it could be tamed. Its a good start to having a ROM other than TouchWiz. : )
Please help me
I installed this custom rom and there is no google play services or nothing. just audio fx, calculator, chromium, clock. contacts, documents, downloads, email, gallery, music, settings and themes. No google anything. Please link me or tell me how to find the google play services version that i need, will be much appreciated thanks in advance
