[Q] XT1527 for Cricket - Service Provider locked as well, it seems - E 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Recently I owned an LG L70 for MetroPCS and I purchased an unlock code from an online service which worked as expected - to clarify, the unlock code I purchased was the SIM unlock code which allowed me to make use of the L70 with T-Mobile. The thing about all that was that T-Mobile owns MetroPCS and I, being out of touch for a bit, didn't realize that the MetroPCS version of the L70 is carrier or service provider locked to MetroPCS itself and wouldn't work properly even with T-Mobile which provides the network access to MetroPCS in the first place.
So, on top of having the traditional SIM network lock there's also a service provider lock on top of that, at least with the MetroPCS L70.
Now it seems this Cricket Moto E I have is exhibiting the same behavior. I purchased an unlock code yesterday after I bought the Moto E itself, got the code this morning, powered off the Moto E, inserted my typical T-Mobile SIM card, powered on the Moto E, got the code entry screen, entered the code and voila, successfully unlocked.
Now, having said that, and while I see the 4G LTE icon on the status bar it's ghosted meaning there's no data connection. I have a connection to T-Mobile, I can make calls (called customer service, etc) and that works great. But the data connection simply doesn't function at all - that's exactly the same behavior exhibited by the L70 I had for MetroPCS. After doing some research I was able to discover a method to do a provider network aka service provider unlock on the L70 using the service codes (*#*# kind of stuff which LG supports on most models, think it was *#*#2945-whatever then changing some options in a menu).
After that, the L70 worked fine with T-Mobile without any problems for data. I did also need to set the proper APN and then I set the radio info (*#*#4636#*#*) to WCDMA preferred which works best for me (and the L70 is not an LTE capable device anyway).
But now I'm stuck with this Moto E that's SIM unlocked, connects to T-Mobile in terms of phone call usage but not data. Because the Moto E doesn't support the dialer service codes I ended up using an app I purchased (SignalCheck Pro) which has some shortcuts to those hidden options (radio info) and there I set it for WDCMA preferred, then I went back to the cellular network options in Settings to set the proper APN, etc. - all this stuff is pretty much regular for most XDA users so I don't need to go into extreme details.
Having said that, it appears there's a service provider lock on this Moto E and I'm stumped as to how to get it removed. I'm guessing that there aren't different "levels" of an unlock code that Cricket would provide, i.e. one code will just remove the SIM lock so you can make use of other carrier's SIM cards and then another code which would remove the SIM lock and remove the service provider lock too.
I can't find any list of known or working Motorola dialer codes that would get me into the same kind of menu the L70 uses to remove the network lock - to be honest I can't even remember the specific steps to get it all done but it was the two-step process: SIM unlock code and then remove the service provider lock, after that I could use the T-Mobile SIM card with voice/data and no issues.
If anyone has any info, tips, or suggestions I'm all ears, figuratively speaking... at this point I can't even really sell this Moto E as "unlocked" since it apparently isn't fully functional in traditional smartphone terms. I'll keep it if I have to, of course, but it sure would be nice to figure this out even if it's just for research purposes that might help others attempting to do the same type of unlocking.
Thanks...
Just to clarify: SIM unlock was successful, but data isn't functional - did all the typical adjustments (APN correct, radio set to WCDMA preferred, phone call functionality works 100%, enabled data connection in radio info had no effect, etc) and still no active data connection will come up. Tried setting it for data roaming, still not successful. Everything works but the data connection, T-Mobile service is active without issues, same SIM card works in the L70 without issues in a straight swap.
Edit:
I have 3 T-Mobile SIMs that are active presently (don't ask) and they all exhibit the same issue of no data; they work fine for phone calls, just no data connection. The same 3 SIMs exhibited the same behavior with the LG L70 until I did that two-step process of removing the SIM lock and the service provider lock so I have no idea what to do at this point assuming that something can actually be done.
Of course I could be off my rocker and just missing something very simple here too, it's happened before.

Here's another issue that is or most likely could be related if anyone has any info about it:
Since getting the SIM unlock code for the XT1527 Cricket model I have (in my attempts to get it functional with T-Mobile, seems like a no-brainer really), I've noted that the actual cellular connection is highly unstable:
It constantly shifts from 4G LTE to HSPA+ to GSM over and over again, never really "sticking" with anything for any length of time - and of course the data isn't working at all as mentioned in the post above.
I remember in the past seeing info on some phones that just constantly won't stick on their given connection and hop all over the place but I can't recall a method to lock it down and make it stable. Not sure if the way Cricket has designed or programmed this particular device is part of it, I suppose there's really no way to know for sure at all.
Bleh... starting to not like this device nearly as much as I did just yesterday when I got it.
For the record: I've done exactly what I mentioned in the post above by accessing the radio info menu to set it for not only LTE mode, but also GSM, then WCDMA preferred, then combinations of those modes and it just will not stick on anything for more than 10-12 seconds at a time.
Very odd behavior, I may just end up using this as a Wi-Fi only device if I'm unable to resolve this crap...

Data roaming: switch to off
See if that helps

cricket moto e lte
cricket moto e works internationally fine with local cdma carrier only out of the box

I'd be willing to bet it is an APN issue. I know you said it is correct, however I've been having data issues with mine and the APN has been the fix. Also the notes on fixes that are coming with 5.1 talk about an APN fix.
Anyway, I'd try creating a diff APN with the values you'll find in the link below, it might work
https://forums.motorola.com/posts/2fc3b123a0?page=1

Op, another thing to try: enable OEM unlocking, settings>developer options>oem unlocking

I've done some more traveling and I'm convinced the fix is to enable OEM unlocking,
good luck

I just looked on the Cricket phone site and the Moto E (2015) LTE is now only $50. I just bought two last month at $80 each. Just my luck...

I'm in the same boat, purchased unlock code from ebay, put in tmobile sim, able to make calls but but no data. I enabled OEM unlock too but it didn't change anything.
One thing that did have some progress was adding a new APN and changing the APN protocol to IPV4/6 instead of IPV6. I was able to get 4G signal sometimes, but it still disconnects very often. Anyone else have any luck with this?

Has anyone bypassed the t-mobile data problem

I have been digging through the threads and it gets confusing with different people referring to unlocked tablets that are overseas etc.
I have a tmobile US springboard that is running the most recent rooted mediapad rom from this board (it runs great btw).
I was hoping I could use this device as my phone. I rarely take voice calls on the phone. I have Bluetooth in my car which is really the only place I talk to anyone and I have a Bluetooth headset if I need it. Most of the time I send texts and use data.
The problem is that when I put my phone sim card in the tablet, phone and sms work fine but data stops working (more specifically, it redirects to my.tmobile.com). From what I have read, I think we are just going to have to deal with it for now but I wanted to see if there are any options because some people thought that removing the imei file would help. There is also some stuff about data in the build.prop for the device.
How about getting a device subsidy unlock code from t-mobile? I should be eligible.
IMEI unlock
I copy and paste tmobile policy as blow:
support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1588
" For information on the SIM Unlock Code, refer to the following:
If you purchased a device from T-Mobile, it has been programmed with a SIM lock which will prevent the phone from operating with other compatible wireless telephone carrier’s services. If you wish to use the phone with the service of another wireless telephone carrier, you must enter a numeric SIM Unlock Code to unlock the phone.
If you have a Postpaid Plan, T-Mobile will provide the SIM Unlock Code upon request to eligible customers, provided the requesting customer has a minimum of 40 days of active service with T-Mobile and did not request a Subsidy unlock code in the last 90 days.
For customers with a Prepaid Plan, T-Mobile will provide the SIM Unlock Code upon request to eligible customers, provided the requesting customer has a minimum of 60 days of active service with T-Mobile and either a Prepaid Plan account balance of at least $10.00 or a prior refill within the last 30 days.
T-Mobile will provide the SIM Unlock Code upon request to eligible former customers, provided that T-Mobile has such code or can obtain it from the manufacturer.
If you paid full retail price for a device, you qualify to have the SIM subsidy unlock code providedif you meet the following requirements:
The device must have been purchased at a T-Mobile retail store or authorized T-Mobile retailer.
The device must be paid for completely. You must be able to fax the proof of purchase to T-Mobile."
As indicated if the device is paid for completely, we qualify to have the unlock code. Have you or anyone tried to get an unlock code and tested?
I bought a Springboard on ebay and signed up for prepaid data for 60 days with tmobile after which time I requested a SIM unlock. I received the unlock code and after inserting my AT&T sim I'm able to make calls , get data, and text.
I can't specifically verify which bands on ATT nor whether I am getting real 3G data. I can verify that I am able to talk, text, get data.

If you're able to get more than 384kbps then you've got HSDPA/HSUPA/HSPA or whatever (real 3G is 384kbps). On most country, the signal label would change to H, on T-Mobile it would probably change to 4G. I can't exactly verify the label change though, since I'm on a data plan with 3G only speed (so my top speed is 384kbps).
If you can't trust the label then use those speed test app and verify it yourself.

I have a question: Since your device has updated firmware (mine is running ICS), does it mean it has been unlocked already? Have you tried a SIM from another carrier? In another word, will updating to a generic firmware unlock tablet automatically? My reasoning is that all the coding/decoding is through software and an updated generic firmware removes all the T-mobile stuff as far as I can tell. The software that is in charge of sim lock is very likely been replaced as well. My doubt is that people can then buy a Springboard with data contract at a much lower price and update the firmware to remove the lock. I bet T-mobile is smart enough not to let that happen.
I finally got the unlock code from T-mobile and bought an ATT sim card. Unlock is not that as simple as I thought to be. Strangely, my ICS does not pop up the unlock code entering interface. I cannot remember from which post I downloaded the ICS. It is within "the" giant thread. By using the famous ()()2846579()()=, it showed nothing after "SIM card lock state". So I flash back to HC3.2 and unlock the device in the pop up interface. After flashing again to the most recent general firmware from huaweidevice.com, it shows "SIMLOCK_DEACTIVE" after "SIM card lock state". Recalling the sim card lock status is one of the features installed after a second boot during the installation and I did not recall my first ICS did that, I am wondering if the first ICS does not install the component related to sim card lock status. Probably my springboard under first ICS is unlocked by software.
Anyway, I am pretty happy with the latest version and have an officially unlocked springboard. From this experience I learned that SIM card lock status in general does not change after update the firmware (at least the official one). And probably someone can do it by modifying the firmware by his/her own.
By the way the ICS I first had has no fastboot option.

I am thinking of unlocking too and I am wondering where you found the HC3.2 to flash? I searched the forum and the only one I found appeared to be made up of many smaller files. There appeared to be multiple versions of files and I was not sure which ones I needed and how to flash them.
If you only want to unlock, flash the latest ics for general purpose from Huawei. The unlock interface appears after you insert a sim card other than tmobile.

T-MOBILE is BLOCKING my P769 sim from the network. Fix?

Hi!
Rooted with cmahendra's offline Lelus method (and to anyone who's done that, my hat is off to you).
**SHORT VERSION**
Sim goes into the L9. I get bars that show network availability, however I am not able to connect/make/receive phone calls.
**DETAILED VERSION**
Starts like this: I have my CM rooted Aria that works a-ok as far as the network. Phone message memory getting full all the time and incoming texts bounce back, with no way of knowing who sent them. Can't have that, so I buy a stock L9.
Sim works. I want to have Wi-Fi calling, which is the *only* reason I bought the L9. Wi-fi calling is not working: call up T-Mo and they say I need to give a 911 address and all will be well. Ok, done.
Sim works. But no Wi-Fi calling still. Call up T-Mo and they say "Ohhh! you need a "3G-B" (I don't think that stands for gigabyte) sim card" Ohhh and what's your phone model etc etc. I tell them "it's a no-brand phone I got overseas," they don't need to know the model: they didn't with the CM Aria. They're clicking settings on their screen other side of the phone while we're talking: I can feel it.
Sim *stops* working. Need a working phone, so let L9 aside and get a stock T-mo S2. Same issue, cell network not connecting.
Let me show THEM! Ha! I'll unlock it. Unlocked the S2.
Sim still doesn't work.
Put the Sim back in the rooted/unlocked Aria? Network works.
What settings do they have in their stock phones that disallow network connectivity, because in the CyanogenMod Aria I have the phone fully works, GPS, tether, etc etc. In their stock-from-T-Mobile phones, network = nada.
Thank you for reading.

What the heck are you asking? I don't see any understandable questions in your message. I see you blowing off steam.
It does look like T-Mobile cooked your sim. You may need a new one.
Call them again and ask for "Customer Retention" through the automated system. Those people are more knowledgeable. A new sim should be free if they killed it.
Also, a data plan is not required for wifi-calling.
T-Mobile will give you a SIM regardless. They are always free.
I'm not sure as I am unrooted, but most carriers block network access via files in the EFS folder. This folder is VERY delicate. Anything improperly changed here can render a phone useless. If the SIM works in another device, it's not the SIM. Have you tried a different SIM in your phone?
Also, if you're blocked from network access, when you make a call, you should be prompted with, "We're sorry, but this device has been blocked from network access." If you do not get that prompt, then there is something wrong with the phone itself, be it software or hardware.
Looks like the L9 isn't registering in their system. Where did you buy the phone, blacklisted perhaps?
As for fried your sim, why does it still work in the Aria.
As for 3G-B, you probably need a newer sim, others call it a 4G sim... They should send you one free or pick one up free at a local tmo..
Thanks so far folks...

You hit the nail on the head exactly clockcycle, it's not registering. Something *in* the phone is not letting it connect, because my sim works successfully in any and every other unlocked phone I have, blackberrys, GMS world phones, the rooted Aria, but in the two "newer-released phones-- the L9 and the S2-- it doesn't work.
Phones are legit. Craigslist and brand new. Worked perfectly until calling T-Mobile for "support". The sim is fine and the goal is to keep it and not get a new one. It works.
My strong guess is that if I put a different rom that is *not* stock, the phone will work fine. It worked fine in the beginning, until I called them to address the wi-fi calling issue and they started poking around in my account, asking questions and clicking on things. I didn't want to address the wifi-calling issue too much because we could go off on a tangent.
You're right kevev, it didn't look like there was a 100% clear question. A lot of story though, to make sure there aren't 50 posts of did you do this and id you do that. A full story gives everyone the most info they need to understand the situation instead of "yo! my phone is not connecting!" which we see sometimes .
So the more clear question is:
"I am experiencing carrier settings *in* my L9 that are blocking me from connecting fully to the network on a perfectly fine sim card, how can I get around these settings and what/where are they."
I think tribalartgod understands what I'm getting at most completely. The inside-the-phone-settings. When the sim is in the phone I have bars, but when going to make a call the screen message is "emegency only". Can't try different sims in the L9 because of the need to cut the sim down. Also the L9 is not unlocked, just rooted. My guess is a de-bloatwared rom is the fix. Looking for answers from people more knowledgeable than me which is most likely all of you. Thanks again!
Craigslist, new, boxed, doesn't gurranty they aren't blacklisted.
BUT, the Aria uses a miniSim, the L9 uses a microSim. Did you cut your Sim yourself? It might be misaligned, cut wrong.
It's less than $2 to get it unlocked..
It sounds like its IMEI blocked dude. This can happen with various insurance or installment plan scams, even to brand new devices. There are options to still use the phone, but you are hosed on T-mobile. I have a blacklisted L9 because the previous owner quit paying his EIP, but it's unlocked so I used it on an AT&T MVNO connected to an AT&T MicroCell (I wanted WiFi calling too, but that won't happen with a blacklisted IMEI). Until you've gone to T-Mobile's chat support and ask the if the IMEI is clean, writing long posts in this thread is futile, and it is pretty clear everybody in this thread THINKS they know what they are talking about, but nobody has simply asked T-Mobile about the status of the IMEI, which takes two seconds.

[Q] phone wont connect to network (outside US)

in a first moment, the carrier signal was ok, but data wasn't working. so i called the carrier, get the correct APN, and the everything was fine for 5 minutes, for phone calls, data network. But suddenly signal was lost, and never got back. Factory reset, the signal bars still off, with an X. Tried to locate the carrier manually, but it doenst work. What can I do now? I will try another sim card to check if it works. How do i know the phone is carrier locked?
If its the AT&T version (presumably, since this is the AT&T variant section) it should carrier locked, unless you obtained the unlock code; or otherwise purchased it SIM unlocked from a 3rd party vendor.
On the other hand, if you were able to connect to the network at all, it is probably not carrier locked. Likewise, if it was locked, it would ask for the code when you inserted the SIM.
I think something else is going on. Even if it as SIM locked or bad SIM, I believe it should still read the network as being present. It would just not let you connect to the network.
Although, replacing the SIM is an easy and cheap thing to try. At least to eliminate it as the issue.

[Q] Verizon Moto E xt1528 Unlock LTE bands?

I snagged one of the $29 dollar Verizon Wireless Moto E LTE Model XT1528 and was wondering if anyone has been able to use any of the guides I have found on XDA for enabling GSM and LTE bands on the XT1528
It is on backorder and I won't get it until around June 22nd so I don't have the phone yet to try yet.
I didn't see a thread for this model so wanted to ask on the forum.
If you did get this to work, can you share the steps you took to accomplish it. I am planning on giving this to my wife to replace her original gen Moto G as she keeps running out of space on it due to not having a SD memory card. We are currently using Cricket Wireless for our Cell phone service. If I can turn on the necessary LTE bands for AT&T / Cricket this would be additional Icing on the cake for this sweet deal.
Thanks for any info you can share.

It's pretty much as described in the threads.
I removed the VZ sim, put in one of my other sims, got out of the VZ/moto setup, turned on wifi and downloaded one of the apps that let me change the radio bands to verify it was set for GSM/LTE, profit.
Nothing else was needed to get LTE on my Cricket (AT&T) or T-Mobile sims.

Upon switching to a different sim, did any of you guys experience the signal constantly changing from 4gLTE down to E or no signal or emergency calls only? happens to me quite often resulting in me always having to switch the cellular network from 4g to 2g, reboot, let it finish booting then change back to 4gLTE, then it is fine for a while(couple hours maybe), then falls back to E or no signal/emergency calls only again. annoys me quite a lot..
P.S. I'm on T-Mobile btw and I've provided a video file for exampleMoto E 2nd gen VZW on TMO with cellular network issue

Can't say I've had that happen, but then again, it's a backup phone for me, not my primary. I just tested it to see if it worked and went back to my main phone after that.
How long will it work normally before that happens? Does it do it with the wifi off?

lg k8+ x210 ulm unlocked carrier sim issues

I have an lg k8+ model x210ulm that i want to use with cricket. The phone is fully unlocked and will accept any sim from any carrier but has an odd behaviour that wont let me use my own sim.
I bought a feesh sim from cricket and when i put it in and set it up it will register with crickets apn and mobile network settibg. I get data and it shows up in the about network as connected and working. It shows cricket carrier in notificstion and i can get texts and even voice mail. But ........
I cannot use the dialer. Upon connection there is no error toast or anything it just imnedistely hangs up.
I can use my wifes my sons or my friends sims in the phone and after a reboot works perfectly. But when i put mine in it stops.
Also my sim works fine in any other unlocked device or cricket device.
Any clue as to wth is going on
Ok so after talking to lg and really that was frustrating. Why because the rep told me it the phone was carrier locked to us cellular which i knew it wasnt because its advertised as being unlocked and well us cellular put up an advert a few years ago stating that all thier phones are unlocked.
So after that i went ahead and talked to a rep at us cellular who assured me it was unlocked and checked the imei for me and sent me link to the advert about thier phones being unlocked.
Back to lg and got another rep this time who knew a lil about something but not much. Could not tell me any thing though.
Now back to cricket where we tested my girlfriends sim in my phone to which it worked and mine in her phone to which it worked. We put the sims in my aristo 2 and fortune 2 and both sims worked. But when i put my sim back in my my k8+(2018) once again every thing works fine but you cannot make or recieve phone calls.
We also tested the voice mail app and and thier what qualifies as a carrier app and it registers. The sim registers in about phone shows service and is connected. Shows the phone number every thing works.
Just not the phone Dialer app
So is there any one out there at all that has had an issue like this before. Any one that can help me figure out what the problem is. This is so crazy that my sim wont work and every one elses will.
Could it be something i did using dialer codes? Any cLues at akl
So here we are months later and im still having sim issues with my k8+ ulm. I ended up buying a brand new device and i tried my provisioned sim card with it not working but literally every other sim card works fine.
I have switched from cricket to assist wireless now who is run or what ever by sprint and i can get the sim card to work for a couple days before switching it to another phone but the main issue is that i get a error popup stating that the sim card has locked and that i need to power cycle and call customer service.
But i made a ton of changes by adding all the system apps from sprint including sprinthiddenmenu and any other apk that was on the tribute dynasty they came from. I also went through the file system and made any prop changes or any thing else that was needed to enable sprint.
At this point id flash a sprint modem but i cant find a cv1 device provisioned under sprint
