FoxFi hotspot - Xperia Z3v General

Hi I have a Sony Z3V and I had FOXFI working before using the "TEST" when entering hash code. But now every time I start it keep asking for buying subscription now. I re installed foxfi and certificate it still is doing the same thing. Any other way I can get hot spot back?

You have to have security set to pattern or pin for it to work.

Question - Tethering.

Hi, I have a stupid question about tethering... I have always used wireless tether for root from the market, but I have Ken's Alien rom, and im wondering since it has tethering, can I just use the mobile hotpot feature without fear of AT&T finding out and charging me?

How easy is this question? Doesn't anyone know haha

Well i have read then at&t can generally find out but it is easier to be caught with an iphone I should know because I used to have an iphone 4 flash a c a tricks I say using an app which state that I can hide tethering.
Other ways of hiding your tethering include not using it for a long session
Thought I was caught using tethering on the iphone I still haven't been notified on my atrix
But the common consensus is that there is no real way to hide your tethering from at&t unless they really have a reason to look into your account

Use Barnacle.............it works fine and is safer than using the APN for tethering.
http://szym.net/barnacle/
<edit> I prefer WiFi Tether, but it doesn't appear to work with 2.3.4............at least not for me.
<edit 2> Just realized WiFi Tether has been updated: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list.
This works with me now. You will get an access control error, but ignore that and you will be fine. Verified working on my laptop here at work. Got 3.5Mbps down and 1Mbps up which is usual dl/ul speed for me at work.
Yeah, wifi tether for root is working flawlessly, but it would be nice to just use mobile hotspot from the phone haha.

Mobile hotspot worked for me. I did the sqlite edit and clicked on the mobile hotspot app and played around with netflix on my 3DS. I had at&t send me a text of my data usage and it still says unlimited. I would imagine if it didn't work they would have changed me over to a 4gb plan.

I did the entitlement check change and use the mobile hotspot which works great. Haven't had at&t say anything to me even when I used custom apn method before.

FOXFI wifi tether working for OTA not rooted!!!

OK so I saw on another thread that there was an update for FOXFI (Pdanet+) for NON ROOTED WIFI access. I updated the app through the playstore and tried it out. It requires you to set up a VPN but after following the directions I hit the wifi option and it worked. :good:
So the question is does VZW see this as a "Mobile hotspot"? It showed up as a mobile hotspot on my phones tray but it did not give me a warning about usage etc. I'm on the unlimited plan.
Could this be what we have been waiting for?!?!?!
i love this app. used to use it on my incredible, but then it broked... but now yay! works great on my DNA. just search for the full key apk to get rid of the usage limit.. if you look hard enough, you'll find it.
I have OTA DNA.. Not working for me. Am I missing something.? Still getting a warning to CALL to subscribe.
I have paid unlocked FoxFi version 2.12.4
PdaNet+ Version 4.12.1

Make sure you create a PATTERN lock, not pin lock. Took me forever to figure this out!
I use the pin lock and it works fine.
Was using clockwork tether instead for awhile, but just installed this to give it a try. I didn't know it actually allowed and enabled your phones mobile hotspot. Gotta love getting free apps xD.
it doesnt work
I'm excited to give this a try, but before plunking down the $8, can someone please give a step by step to maximize the number of people for whom this will work?
There appears to be a need to put a pattern lockscreen on...anything else? Download the free version of FoxFi, then purchase the PDANet+ key (link here, you won't find the link on the FoxFi app page...at least, I didn't until a helpful fellow poster directed me to this):

not work for my brother's
ad on v3011 version 4.12.5
re
its working for me on my 2.04 DNA Verizon.
I paid the 8 $ and finally I have no need to root my phone.
used it for over an hour with two 4g bars. faster than the poopy coffee shop WiFi.
glad you got it working. I'm happy with the phone now LOL
I made a pin lock bit now cannot get back to no lock at all... suggestions?

Judging by the guidelines the program, I think you have
to keep it. But yea, this works like a charm. Still wish I could be
rooted, but this will suffice for now.
For those of you that have followed the instructions and its still not working...when in doubt REBOOT the phone. It worked for me.:silly:

You need to delete the certificate you created... Goto settings, security, and under credential storage hit clear credentials. You will have to repeat the entire process to use FoxFi if you want no lock since FoxFi requires the certificate/screen lock.

Just a heads up I received another OTA from Verizon and the Foxfi is still working good

[Q] SM-N900P Wifi Tether

I have rooted my Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3, mainly so I can tether. However, upon installing Wifi Tether (I tried regular as well as TrevE Mod), and entering the usual settings, I found that it does not work with this phone. Does anyone know of a way to use wifi tethering on this phone? Is TrevE going to update his app to work with the Note 3? Developers, if you are seeing this, such an app would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Wife Tether Router is working for me after rooting my note 3. Had to play around with the settings at first. Ad hoc mode works, but none of the other modes would work.

Confirmed. Wifi Tether Router works for me too. $1.95 on the Google Play store. Configure as Method 3 Ad-Hoc.
Do I have to be rooted to use this? I know it's a silly question with a yes answer but I have seen a few post with people saying they have been boot looping like crazy after a successful root with no way to fix it?

I used Chainfire's easy root method the day I got the phone and it works with no problem. Wifi Tether Router does require root, but it is confirmed working where the Trevemod that most people use does not currently work until the dev updates support.

They seem to suspect that TWRP is causing the boot loop (I haven't installed recovery yet) but I'm rooted using chainfire method and haven't had any issues with booting. But yes, rooting would be required to get around sprint's official wireless tether.

This is the app: ($1.95)

Configure according to Dev's 4.3 instructions with the following settings:
Interface - wlan0
Method 3 - HostApd (AD-HOC)
Wifi tether router with the structions below ....only my computera recognized and it works but ....but with any cellphone cant connect ....so anny idead??
It's the fact that you have to use adhoc and not infrastructure ..... have to wait until they fix it

I bought Wifi Tether Router, and it works, but there are a few things I cannot stand about it. A security passcode cannot be set on an ad-hoc connection, so anyone can connect. Also, even after I tap disable, the ad-hoc connection is still active! New devices can still see the hotspot until I turn on my wifi and connect to a network.
Does this work with 4g as well?
Sent from my SM-N900P using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Look like I'll be holding off until there's a secure connection. Can't stand open network.
It may not be wifi hotspot, but for a good workaround for now I'm using Pdanet+ on my Note 3 and Bluetooth tethering to my tablets using Pdanet Tablet. This creates a secure VPN connection to the tablet and all my streaming apps work fine on it. Haven't tested it with LTE yet but going to try that tomorrow.
I use Barnacle wifi tether. available in the play store. free and wireless encryption. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.szym.barnacle

Confirmed working on Note 3....but only on ad hoc mode...(open network)....I attempted to download Barnacle wifi app from the play store but message comes up saying that the app is not supported by my carrier (Sprint)....So..I downloaded the latest apk from the Barnacle website to my laptop..then I emailed the apk as an attachment to myself and installed it that way....works good...and its free....

I use Barnacle as well, but doesn't seem to support WEP, only ad hoc, wide open. Anyone having luck getting WEP to work, and if so, care to share your settings?
Same here, unable to get WEP to work with Barnacle, but at least I have some free wireless tether going. Confirmed working, thanks!

what settings are being used for Barnacle? i tried to start it and it fails every time.
Barnacle
I'm using Barnacle as well It seems to work well in ad hoc however, plugged in, it works on tether and leaves no vacant Wifi network. Seems to be a good workaround until the encrypted app is available.
I'm Sorry, I take it back. I unplugged and the whole world can still see my Business. LOL

The native hot spot works now also.
Would seem the best option to me.
The only real caveat at the moment seems to be there is no odex version so must be running a deodex rom.
Which is simple enough and an odex version should be along shortly

[Q] Tether app that actually works, razr vzw

Hey fellas. I got my girl a used vzw razr to pull her from ios. She loves it so far. Only issue is finding a tether app that actuslly works. Really dont want to root, but will if really have to. We dis get foxfi to work, but the credentials on it required a screen lock, and she doesn't want one. Weve tried all the other ones. Any suggestions?
Have you tried open garden?
Sent from my XT912 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I want to think we have. The issue on all of them is it requests permission of the stock hotspot, tries to turn on, then of course turns back off because she doesnt have that permission to turn on mhs. I believe the foxfi credentials by passes that, but again, dont want a lock screen.
nice to hear
I do not remember having to put a password on my phone when I used open garden but u Amy have to root and put like cm10.1.3 on it to get the tether with out the password

FoxFi Premium vs Free

So I recently purchased the S7 edge, haven't rooted it yet just to try out Samsung pay and whatnot.
I came from the S5, had it rooted, and had the mod to enable hotspot.
Well because I used my hotspot quite often I purchased the premium version of FoxFi to remove the data restrictions in the app. While using the premium version and doing other things on my phone I hit the multi window button and hit close all on my phone. Needless to say, FoxFi closed as well. But I noticed that my hotspot was still running and going strong.
Just figured I would point that out there for those who are thinking about getting FoxFi, you may not need the premium version right away and still have unlimited use of it. Now, I'm not encouraging going around the purchased option but maybe it would give others the ability to truly test out the app before they make their decision.
Or maybe the developer of the app is on these forums and can see this vulnerability in his app.
Tl;dr
FoxFi doesn't need to be running after hotspot has successfully started on your phone.
