You haven't established an internet connection yet, either connect to wi-fi or 4g account.

Sounds like you may need to reprogram your phone with Verizon (if indeed you have no data connection). That used to involve dialing *228, but it's been a long time since I've done it. Might be worth a try, however?

Can't access Android Market over wifi or login to Google Mail App and Sync not workin

Hi Experts,
Sorry if I sound a little crude and maybe a novice(I am), but I have been a Symbian user so far and finally decided to take the plunge to Android. I received my HTC Hero a couple of days back and tried to connect to Android Market with my google account, but in vain. Tried to use the Google Mail app, but again failed. Am I missing something here? Tried to use HTC Sync with my lappy, but no success.
Provider: Orange UK.
Connectivity: Wifi (No data plan on Sim)
Laptop OS: Win 7 64-bit (connecting usin USB cable)
I have read a lot of threads on xda and on the internet and tried quite a few things, but no success.
Thanks in advance,
Jag
Closing thread as there is another one though not for UK. Will wait for that to resolve.

I had the same problem, and some packet sniffing showed that Android tries to contact google on port 5228/tcp. Our work wifi firewalls non-standard ports, presumably this is why I cannot download from the market (Hangs forever at "starting download") or sign into gtalk over wifi. Switching to 3G data, everything works fine (though the Market stalls a lot).
I had an issue where it wouldn't accept my details unless I entered them in on the initial setup screen.
i.e. if I skipped past the "set up google mail" bit, and went back later, it didn't work.
workaround was reverting to factory install and making sure to enter my account details at the start (and I used wifi since I was in my home, so it should definately work)
It worked for me after i manually set the APN for my carrier.
Please same problem, HTC Magic 32B Ion 1.6, how can I do?
Yes you should always try to log into google at the very start otherwise some problems can be caused.

All OK!
I did a wipe and all ok
How am I supposed to do this after a factory reset if I connect thru wifi, since I must first enable wifi radio and then put a password, so that means I would have to skip the "wizard" so that defeats the purpose of factory resetting everything... please help.
Solved
Logically, what you say is right, but practically it actually worked
1) after the factory reset, i get the google signin screen,
at that moment, my wifi wont be enabled.....but still i went ahead and entered the username and
password and clicked the signin button
as expected it throwed a message saying "it cant connect"
along with it it also said may be you are not on wifi with a
"connect to wifi button", which will take to the wifi screen where you can connect to wifi and it comes back to the google signin screen, where you login again....
.............there you go it signs in successfully now.
Hope this helps
I have this same issue on my galaxy s. Even factory reset and singing in at the beginning doesnt help. What should i do?

Hi
I am facing the same problem with my device (Galaxy S2). I am able to surf web with the stock phone browser using wifi, but apps won't connect. Apps connect only through GPRS.
I was wondering if you were able to resolve the issue. Could you please help me ?
Anyone else has a solution to this problem.
My phone has the stock firmware, purchased the phone today.
Apps have never worked over wifi, but the browser works.
Cannot download anything on wifi, for that only my GPRS/3G works.
Please help
I have been using my desire for over a year and it has been great, but now I also have this problem of no market or google mail over my WiFi. I was going to do a factory reset and start again, but after reading the posts on this thread this may not resolve the problem.
Has anyone found a fix for this problem
I have this problem too. I doubt it's the manufacture deliberately use its stock sbf to stop people using wifi to save data bandage. So they can make more money with the mobile operators!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1281034
me too I guess
well i was having a similar problem(would connect to wifi, the browser worked but not the apps).in my case, i have my router setup with the dhcp server off(you have to assign an static ip address manually to every device you that you are going to connect to the router) i solved my problem by enabling the "use static ip" check box and filling all the information(ip address, gateway, netmask, dns 1 and dns 2)on the advance settings tab in wifi settings.

Chrome to Phone won't let me login

Every time I try to log into Chrome-to-Phone, it just says "Error: Unable to connect"
I've tried to login on 3G, Wifi, and 4G.
I have soft & hard reset my phone multiple times.
Is anyone else having this problem?

No issues here. You loaded the client on your phone right? And assigned the google account you want to use?
Get read it later, much better.
i had the same problem, then realized i hadnt actually set the app up on my phone after i downloaded it. now it works great
slayer69: That's the problem. The Android App wont let me sign in. Just says "Error: Unable to connect"
kellybrf: I'm trying to set it up lol
Seems to be an issue for ppl for flash a lot.

Read from post 40 ish.
Same exact issue here. I have tried it on wifi and off and after a fresh reboot. Nothing seems to work.

Having the same issue here...I posted on google's web site too and a lot people are having the same issue. I think it's more of an issue of having many different phones than it is flashing a lot, but I could be wrong. It seems to work on secondary google accounts, just not primary. Unfortunately, I only have a primary google account, so I just can't use Chrome to Phone anymore...

Restoring from a titanium backup with data + app and then disconnecting and reconnecting fixed the issue for me (twice). It's ROM / phone based.

When I had this issue on my flashed weekly Evo, I solved it by re-installing it 5 times... It then worked. Worth a shot. Hope ya get it figured out!
I had this problem earlier today. Just tried again several hours later and it worked. Didn't reinstall or anything.

Glad to know im not the only one with this problem. ive done a restore from Titanium with no luck going to try some of the other things you guys have done considering ive flashed my OG at least 200+ Times Hope this works.

Any progress with that "loosing connection to google services" problem?

Ever since I got my first Android device (Galaxy Nexus) I had the problem that Gmail and Google Talk just often won't notify me about new messages. It works fine sometimes but often there is a delay between a few seconds and several hours until it finally notifies me (if at all that is).
It's basically freaking useless. I just can't rely on it so I end up checking for messages and mail manually every few minutes.
Things that don't affect the problem:
Device and Android Version. Plenty of people reported this problem and it's just not limited to one device or version.
If the screen is turned off or not. It even stops working while Talk is open (not in the background).
How the phone connects to the internet. At home it's using the same connection as my PC, while it just won't notify me of an new e-mail the Talk client on the PC manages it without problems.
ROM/Kernel don't seem matter either. Also did plenty of factory resets.
All I can find are old and/or unanswered threads.
Like those:

I'd have ditched Android by now if there would be a good alternative. But it's either Android, iOS or Windows Phone...
Sign out of google talk and gmail.do a battery pull, then a factory reset, then try again.

my advice. backup what you need(ie. text messages) and just clear data, revert to stock image

I don't really get how this could help. Don't feel like doing yet another reset unless it could really have an effect.

ROM and Kernel don't seem to matter. That includes for example stock, Cyanogen and franco kernel.
Did a factory reset like 100 times before, just this time logged out first. Didn't help, how unexpected.
Another option, contact sprint, have them do a. Profile refresh. Also update ur prl twice. Now that I think about, it could be a slight network issue in connection with ur device (hard to explain)
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
I'm in Europe. No sprint here.
I'll replace my Nexus with an S III today. Guess I'm about to find out if it's affected too.
Will probably be hard to do any further tests with the Nexus because my SIM is going to have a little meeting with a scissor.
Didn't get too many messages yet but some of them were definitely several minutes late. Guess the S III is affected too. Just great.
Am I the only person with this problem?
Still happening and renders the phone mostly useless.
At least some ideas on how to pinpoint the problem?

[Q] Error Adding Google Account

I recently did a factory reset on my wife's phone. When it came back up we tried to add her Google account back so she could get her email and contacts, etc. The phone keeps telling her the username/password is wrong. We tried it on the internet and had the same issue, so we reset the password. We tried the new password on the phone and had the same issue. Any ideas?

No one has any ideas? This is driving me crazy. The password we are using is NOT incorrect. We've verified via a computer web browser.

Finally figured it out. 2 Step Verification was On in Google settings. It apparently caused issues. I turned it off and was able to log in to the phone just fine.
Thanks for the update... wish I had seen this yesterday, probably could have saved some headache, the 2-Step Authentication in Google is a PIA and will cause issues with Android devices. I only visit the Rezound forums a couple times a week since I don't own one anymore...

[Q] Proxy Error

I'm getting "Unable to connect to the proxy server" error on my G3 on Sprint. I've tried to connect to CDMA instead of LTE and still have the same issue. The error also happens on Wifi. What's crazy is I can run a speed test using an app. It almost seems like a system wide dns issue encoded somewhere. I have tried new profile and prl, as well as ##72786#.

Yes, I had to download the tot file and reflash the image. With sprint, you must have the msl number, as you have to do a ##rtn# after first boot to have the sprint software repushed to the phone.

Thanks.
Do you know what caused this issue so I can prevent it from happening again? It is really odd that apps like Google Now, Speed Test, and FB Chat still connect fine, but Chrome, Play Store and FB, just don't.
Went surfing this morning and when I got back to my phone all of my Data was back to normal. Not sure what happened. I hope it does not happen again.
