Sony Xperia Complete Rooting and Flashing guide - Flashing Made Simple

So its time to have some fun flashing your phone.Rooting means getting acess to the Root of the Phone Rom.Once rooted you can install Custom Roms [Operating Systems],Remove Crappy apps, get better performance and Battery etc. Rooting your phone is Not Big job ,But a Bit lengthy at the first time..But you will end up in trouble if you dont know the actual procedure.That doesn't mean you will brick your phone.Android phones are based on Flash ROMs ,just like a memory card. So flashing a 100 or1000 times wont destroy it.It is completely Safe and there is nothing much to worry about .But make sure sure you have an un interrupted power supply if you are using a PC. So here i am taking effort to bring out a step by step description of the process.
Understanding what it is...
Many people still doesn't know what actually is rooting and a custom rom mean. The Process is to completely Remove your Current Phone OS and Install a Fresh copy of another OS. If you have installed a windows /Linux formatting your pc its easy to understand.Your device has a 440MB flash memory for OS and 420 Mb Internal memory for installing apps etc.When the phone comes to you not the entire memory of 420 Mb is available to u ,because sony has included some stock Bolt wares in ur OS.So rooting provides a larger internal memory as well .In your pc you might have come across the bootloader /boot menu .In your sony phone this boot-loader is Locked to prevent alterations. But android being an opensource stuff , it is required that the phone manufacturer should allow you to install Custom androids. So in order to access the Boot-loader u will have to unlock it first. After unlocking a recovery Mode is to be installed.That's what u call kernelling. After that , u will wipe the User memory 420mb ,Format[Done auto] & install the Zip file containing android os onto the 440Mb memory.The zip file contains the Customized android OS.Its called the rom .MiUi is one such rom.
Benefits: Lots of Customization , More features ,Better battery ,A faster OS,Latest Android versions.
Negatives: Voids warranty .
Why it voids warranty ?
Simply because Sony cant take up the responsibility if you destroy your phone hardware by your mistake. For example if u overclock [Possible only after rooting] the CPU there are chances that it smokes out.
Warning : Unlocking Boot loader voids Sony Service Center warranty.
Rooting involves 3 steps,
1-Unlocking Bootloader
2-Installing a Custom Bootloader /Kernel/Recovery
3-Installing the Rom /Android OS.
Tools Required [Download all of them before starting ]
1.Sony Xperia Flashtool *[Optional]
2.Drivers
3.android_winusb.inf Driver[Click to Download]
4.ROM & Kernel (Once downloaded , Copy the Rom File to the Micro SD[Important, if u don't wanna end up searching for a card reader ] )
OR
ROM-2 [Lasans's MiUi ] ( If u find any issues with the other one Try this Rom,Download only the Rom File )
*Actually you do not need the Complete Xperia flasher tool. you are only using the Fastboot from Xperia flasher. If u don't have time to download the Flash tool just download only the Fastboot tool and Drivers from HERE or Here .But its better to download Flash tool as u can perform some additional operations like Installing apks , Uninstalling features etc . using the tool.
Step 1 : Unlocking the Bootloader
1. Unlocking the Bootloader requires the Unlock Code.You can get it from the sony website at the Following link .
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
Enter your Phone IMEI ,Email etc. and Get the unlock Code.While you enter the IMEI take care not to Include the last DIGIT of your IMEI.IMEI should be 14 digits long.
2. Now Install the SONY Xperia Flash tool from Here
http://androxyde.github.com/ OR JUST UNZIP THE FASTBOOT.ZIP TO C:\
3. You will need fastboot on the computer to unlock the bootloader of the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman . Fastboot is available in Xperia Flashtool folder in C:\Flashtool or where you have installed Flash tool OR IN C:\ WHERE U HAVE UNZIPPED IT TO.
4. Now Power off your Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman.
5. Press & hold the Volume Up button while connecting the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman to the computer.The Notification LED will now glow in Blue color.This is called Fastboot Mode.
[ Press and Hold Vol Down key while connecting to USB will Boot in Flash Mode ]
6. If the drivers are not installed automatically ,go to the Drivers folder in Xperia flash tool folder and install the drivers.You can check if the drivers are properly installed by going to the windows device manager and see if there is any Unidentified device .If properly installed it will shown in device manager.If u find an entry "s1 boot fastboot " with Missing drivers in device manager ,Right Click there -> Update Driver ->Browse My computer ->Let me Pick -> Have Disk >> Then Point to the Downloaded "android_winusb.inf" file. >> Choose "Android Bootloader device".Now your drivers Should be installed.In the device manager You will find an Android device.
7. Go to Terminal or Command prompt in windows and change directory to "C:\Flashtool\x10flasher_lib" .You will find the fastboot.exe file there.
See the Image attached at Bottom of this page .
Enter following commands to navigate
cd\
cd flashtool\x10flasher_lib or cd fastboot
Now you are int the folder containing fastboot.exe
8. Now check if the phone is properly connceted and detected by Typing the following in the cmd .
fastboot -i 0x0fce getvar version .It must return the version of fastboot .Eg: .3
If it shows "Waiting for device" the device is not connected properly.If it returns anything else [ like .3 ] the device is detected .
9. Now type the Following and press ENTER
fastboot -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY
where KEY should be replaced by the Unlock key you generated from the Sonymobile website .
10. Once it display Flash operation complete , you are Done .Your phone Bootloader is no more locked.
PS:If you find any problems using this method you may follow one these links.
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1560613
Step 2 : Installing the Kernel
Android is based on the Linux kernel.A kernel is actually a link between the OS and the hardware.It controls the hardware.So obviously it has got something to do with the performance & battery life. The kernels contain the RECOVERY MODE+ROOTING. You may read more about kernels on xda-developers.com .So there are a number of kernels available for Sony live . You may find it in the rom download pages usually.
Two of the popular kernels are
1. X-Kernel
2. Rage kernel
Download one of these kernels, a ROM file and flash your phone.
Here we are working with the Expeacers MiUi Rom.
Steps
1. Once you are done with Unlocking Rest is So easy .Do not disconnect the phone .We are going to use the phone in Fast boot mode. If u have disconnected ,don't worry ,just shut down [Or pullout & Re-insert the battery ]the device and Reconnect it to PC Holding the Vol+ key pressed.Now the notification led will turn Blue.You are back in fast boot mode.
2. Copy the Downloaded kernel img file into the folder where fast boot is located and rename it to "Boot.img" .
3. Now go to Command prompt , Navigate to the x10flasher_lib[As done before ] ,Enter the following command.
fastboot flash boot boot.img or
if it doesn't do anything
fastboot -i 0xfce flash boot boot.img
4. Now you are done ."Flash operation complete " will be displayed. Disconnect your phone from PC.
Before you proceed to next step you should have copied the ROM[Zip file ] to your Memory card in the phone.
Step 3 : Installing the ROM
This is the easiest part.Just turn on your phone ,after a few 5-10 seconds the notification led will glow .
At this time Press the vol+ key once. Phone will enter the Boot loader . Now you can see a number of option.Use the Vol+/- key to navigate ,Home key to select . Choose the wipe Cache ,Wipe Rom/factory Reset options[in some boot loaders ] .This is important as this will clean up all the previous user data and installed apps. Wipe actually cleans the internal memory and Cache. This is called clean install.
Now after cleaning up ,Choose the "Install Zip From SD Card" . Now follow the on screen instructions Rest is self explanatory. Once you finish installing the Rom Reboot the device. In most of the cases First time booting might be so long. All you have to do is be patient.If its taking longer than usual try pressing the Home key once.
So its time to Enjoy a new android... A yummy Ice cream Sandwich. Now you may try as many ROMs as u wish by simply following the step 3 only.
Happy Flashing... Enjoy ...

Done link fixed !
I successfully completed most steps until:
"Choose the third option to Unlock Bootloader. You will be prompted for the unlock sequence was taken from Sony. The phone will automatically into fastboot and do things"
On Toolkit I get:
Please enter an unlock code: (I press enter)
Rebooting to fastboot
Unlocking... (phone reboots)
< waiting for device >
and nothing... My laptop detects the phone as normal, but Toolkit does nothing, just says < waiting for device >
Also, even though it said rooting was successful, the root checker apps say my phone is not rooted...

Hope you're newbie here so will try to guide you step-by-step.
The easiest way is to download stock firmware for Flashtool.
For KitKat you can download 23.0.1.A.0.167 Firmware - this is the latest KitKat before Lollipop.
For SGP621 you can download it here: DOWNLOAD
Now Download FlashTool v0.9.18.6 - not newer e.g. 0.9.19.0 because they need some scripts and give errors. You can download it from HERE
Don't install PC Companion!
Let's start.
1. Download FlashTool from link above
2. Install
3. Go into C:\Flashtool\drivers and run Flashtool-drivers.exe
4. Select components - you only need Flashmode driver so select only flashmode driver and click install
5. Download FTF file and push it into C:\Users\Username\.flashtool\firmwares
6. Make sure your tablet is charged at least 50%!!!
7. Turn off tablet but DON'T CONNET TO PC
8. Run Flashtool (FlashTool if you have 32-bit OS, Flashtool64 if you have 64-bit)
9. Click LIGHTNING like on screen below:
{

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
10. Select flash mode
11. You will see a list with firmwares like on screen below
12.Select firmware in left column and check the boxes: APPSLOG, CACHE, DATA (you see it on screen above in pt. 11)
13. Click FLASH. Don't connect your tablet to your PC.
14. Flashtool will prepare everything - it takes about 1 minute - it looks like on screen below:
15. When flashtool is ready you will se this window:
16. Connect your SGP621 in flashmode - hold VOL- and connect to PC - when the windows closes, you can release VOL- button, but DON'T DISCONNECT YOUR TABLET UNLESS FLASHTOOL WILL WRITE sth like this:
Flash complete. Plug off your device and reboot. That's all!
17. Reboot your Tablet and that's all
thank you so much God bless you <3

Are you sure about 23.0.1.A.0.167 Firmware being the latest KitKat before Lollipop? According to PTCRB there were three (3) KK versions at least certified:
23.0.1.A.3.12
23.0.1.A.4.30
23.0.1.A.0.167
I'm actually "hunting" for the latest KK firmware here: [SGP611] Last KK Firmware anyone?

(Took ~5 minutes. There is a longer break in flash process without any notification in flashtool. Just stay patient)
Rooting:
Had to use KingRoot, EasyRootTool and DoomLord_v4_root where freezing in process.
Backup-Ta worked as described, Servicemenu "Bootloader unlocked: yes"
Afterwards, do not use "Restore TA", it seems to lock you bootloader again, instead:
Flash Stock 23.5.A.1.291 same way
Download and extract ta_poc:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/poc-real-trim-instead-drm-fix-t3552893
Open your 23.5.A.1.291 tft/zip file (rename tft to zip) and extract kernel_S1-SW-LIVE-9C84-PID1-0006-MMC.sin.
Download twrp https://twrp.me/Devices/Sony/ (I used scorpion_windy on lte version, seems to work), name it recovery.img and place it in ta_poc folder
Run DOUBLECLICKME.bat, it will ask you for your kernel and TA backup files and it should automatically detect the twrp file.
When done, you will find a new_boot.img file. This is a combination of your stock boot image, together with your ta partition and twrp recovery.
Flash new_boot.img in fastboot
Code:
fastboot flash boot new_boot.img
Test if device boots to system
Download Magisk (I used 18.0)
Boot into twrp (push volume-up multiple times when Sony logo appears)
Flash Magisk zip
Boot and install Magisk Manager
Result (in my case):
Latest Stock version with twrp 3.0.2 and Magisk (root, root hiding,...)
All keys in service menu are [Key OK][Active].
(For me it shows "bootloader unlock allowed", as if bootloader is locked. But thats hard to believe since its booting with a patched bootloader.)
Ta Restore crashed
had to replace file find.exe in Backupt-TA-9.11\tools with my version from c:\windows\system32
Than it worked, all keys in service menu are [Key OK][Active]
But it seems this is relocking your bootloader. Service menu says again "Bootloader unlock allowed: yes" (don't know about it, I could restore TA on my XZ1c and bootloader stays onlocked)
Flashed 23.5.A.1.291 and afterwards this boot image https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-tablet-compact/development/kernel-t3472019 for twrp.
Magix 18.0 (through twrp) bootloops!

[Guide][root][unlockloader][roms][twrp][tutorial] for huawei devices

Disclaimer: Im new and i'm not that good at english,im not responsible for bricked devices.
So for the past month i've been through a journey of tryng to break through huawei's draconian security and i can proudly say that i finally did it, i installed a custom rom on my FIG-LX1
I've read a lot of sources and it all seems to be all over the place so i'm going to try and make this as easy as i can for you.
1.First of all ,if you want a custom rom go to OpenKirin ( https://openkirin.net/devices/) and choose your rom and see if you need to upgrade/downgrade your emui and also if your device is supported.
2.For the bootloader you have two options
a) The paid one, use sigma key or dc unlocker
b) The free and geeky one. Attention you'll need to open up your phone, which is honestly not that hard and you can pay a pro to do this for you for like 5 bucks .This method is pretty straight forward:\
1.Go to Potato NV (https://github.com/mashed-potatoes/PotatoNV) , see if your device is supported and download the software
2. Now comes the hard part, you need to take off the back cover of your device. Shut down your phone, then take your phone cover off, then you need to search google for your test point. For example for me it was Fig lx1 test point (device model+ test point)
3. When you located the test point youll need to short it with the motherboard shield. In their tutorial they said that youll need to solder it ,but it can be done easier. You need just a very small piece of wire and someone to plug the device
Here's how the process looks:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
4.Open potato nv software. Now you need another person to help you. Hold the phone , touch the test point and the motherboard shield and keep them shorted while the other person plugs the usb cable from pc to phone. U should hear the connection sound from windows and the CHARGING LOGO SHOULDN'T APPEAR.
5. Now you can stop shorting the test point and the shield, but keep the phone connected to PC.
6. In potato Nv choose your cpu and unlock bootloader
7.Now your bootloader is unlocked ,if any problems you still have the bootloader unlock code
Back to roms and twrp .
Now you should see this messagge appear:
This menu is very important for changing the rom ,cause every rom needs emui 9 or 8 to be installed and from here you can reinstall the stock emui after flashing custom rom but we'll talk about it later.
Now for flashing twrp.
Boot the device into bootloader mode(shut down ,then hold power+ volume down until huawei appears on screen or Better and easier and useful for later download android platform tools from SDK Platform Tools release notes | Android Developers (developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools).Plug the device into pc,enable usb debugging . Open a cmd and open the folder location .Example
Code:
cd C:\Users\USerName\Desktop\platform-tools
and type
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
. You should see that your bootloader is unlocked
Download android platform tools (developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools)
Now find your twrp img for your phone , rename it to recovery.img and put it in in the platform-tools folder
Now in terminal open cmd in platform tools folder and type
Code:
fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk recovery.img
Now you have twrp installed
Note that you wont use it neither for rooting with magisk neither with installing custom rom.
Installing custom rom:
Open kirin has a very good user guide and i suggest you to follow it: OpenKirin (openkirin.net/user_guide/openkirin-rom-installation-instructions/)
Btw their rom works with twrp
But it doesn't say how to switch your rom or go back to stock for switching you need to be on stock)
1.Go to Android File Host - Free file hosting for Android developers ( androidfilehost.com) and search for your build number (eg: FIG-LX1) and download a firmware emui 8 or 9.
2.Open the zip ,go to software and from here youll see a folder called dload, extract it somewhere
3.Now youll need a sdcard in your phone,plug your phone into pc and put the dload folder on your sdcard (it should bee on the root directory ,basically dont put it in another folder in sdcard)
3.You should've noticed already that every time you restart your phone there is a warning message sayng that your phone is unlocked( image above)
4.Press volume up for 3 seconds and it should take you to huawei recovery ,from here press wipe data and factory reset to kinda reinstall huawei recovery which youll use for dload
5.After wipe restart your phone ,press vol up + vol down + power until huawei logo to enter force update
6.Now wait for it to do its job and install emui.
*If it doesnt do anything , take the sd card out ,put it in another device ,open dload folder,find update.zip and put it on the sdcard instead of dload folder
7. To switch the rom repeat the steps from open kirin,note that if u had twrp youll need to install it again
Now the hardest part ,rooting...NOte that i tested root only on stock so your process can be diffrent but im not sure ,you cand try for other rom this process
For stock and no twrp:
1.Force update emui with dload method , needed for a recovery img.
2.On pc open dload folder ,open update.zip and extract UPDATE.APP
3.Now download huawei app extractor from here [TOOL] Huawei Update Extractor [UPDATED: v0.9.9.5] | OPEN-SOURCE LIBRARY | XDA Developers Forums (xda-developers.com) (forum.xda-developers.com/t/tool-huawei-update-extractor-updated-v0-9-9-5-open-source-library.2433454/)
4.Open the app and go to settings and untick every box you see
5.Now go to extract and extract the UPDATE.APP file
6.Now you should see a lot of nonsense,find recovery_ramdis.img ,left click it once, then right click for options and select extract selected
7. Now u should have a recovery_ramdis.img file.Move this file on your phone and install magisk manager.
8.Open magisk and press install in the tab with the mask(the first install button) tick the box with recovery mode, then select patch a file and select the recovery_ramdis.img file .Now it patches it. Then move the patched file to the pc again, to the platform tools folder
9.Enable usb debugging on the device and plug device to pc
10.Open cmd on pc and type
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
, or simply reboot to bootloader(shut down phone,then hold power + vol down until huawei logo appears)
11. In cmd type
Code:
fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk magisk_patched_yourfile.img
Dont forget to change the yourfile into your file name mine had something like this : jhfdU
12.Reboot your phone and voila u have root, if doesn't work go back to magisk press again install,tick recovery mode, but this time select direct install and this should resolve problems
Magisk official guide(kinda hard to understand) : Installation | Magisk (topjohnwu.github.io) (topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html#huawei)
Note that by this you'll remove your custom recovery .
IF U WANT TWRP i assume that you patch the twrp img file with magisk and flash i,t you can try it out and post your results or u can try to just flash twrp as is.
Hope i helped you !!

I think it may apply to Canadian models too as I seem to not have an OEM bootloader unlock option in developer options.

Do you know of any paid services? I wouldn't mind paying for a bootloader unlock

And the userdata is keep?
Is there a way to backup all before update?
yes full flash with home csc to keep your data
if you want to backup your apps and data with root use migrate app from playstore

On the root flash there were 2 "erasing everything" screens, one after a message that something is corrupt. Will this happen again?
Can you provide a simple step by step list what to do with new updated firmware?
