Sorry Folks! - Fire HD 6 and 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The Fire HD6 and HD7 Cannot Be downgraded to Fire OS 4.5.3 From Fire Os 4.5.4.
I Found this out while attempting to get amazon to downgrade my device from 4.5.4 to 4.5.3 but she mentioned that it cannot be downgraded.
-Screenshot Could not be uploaded. Sorry!-
So, Can it be downgraded by someone Else's Doing's?

I'm new to the whole tablet scene as I haven't done anything to my fire hd 7 4th generation yet. Is it a bad thing to have 4.5.4?

I recall some people here saying that Amazon support did downgrade them to 4.5.3, so the technical capability is definitely there. You just need to make up a half-convincing story so they could justify it to their supervisors.
So I recommend that you continue calling them, until they give in and do it!

4.5.4 can't be rooted, but 4.5.3 can.

Will someone eventually figure out how to root the 4.5.4 instead of relying on a downgrade?

Check this thread for downgrade info. In short you need to rollback to 3.2.8 then upgrade to 4.5.2 which can be rooted. There is risk executing this procedure including a hard brick. If you are unfamiliar with HDX devices they are exceptionally difficult to recover once hosed. Tools/techniques used on other android devices (factory cable, fastboot, usb spoofing, etc) simply don't work. You can not unlocked the bootloader on your device as Amazon has incorporated rollback protection ('efuse') that will permanently disable your device if you make the attempt.
Once on 4.5.2 You can install Safestrap v4 and then flash Nexus v4 or CM11. No other 3rd party roms are supported.
Pay attention to the warnings/cautions if you opt to rollback - especially those dealing with OTA and keeping wifi disabled. If you take an update while on 3.2.8 your device will instantly brick. At other times you will be upgraded to 4.5.4 and have to start the rollback process over again.
There are no step-by-step tutorials or helpful videos. You have to read, read, read and ask questions when needed. Do your homework before posting. If you ask a question that has been answered multiple times you probably will not get a friendly reception.

Ok thanks you alot for this informations. So I prefer to stop, I don't want a high brick. (I have already crack somes video games, and unbrick.. but I don't know android ^^)
Now i'm not sure to change with a nexus 7... It's the same resolution, more possibility with nexus 7, same price.
What do you think about that ?
Successfully rolled back from 4.5.4
My hdx 7 3rd gen was running 4.5.4 and was able to successfully rollback to 3.2.8 and then upgrade to 4.5.2. Next step is rooting!

Be sure to block OTA. An update will push you to 4.5.4 and kill root.

What's the procedure for this downgrade ? We can change the rom ? (like nethunter). Or I can return my kindle hdx for a nexus 7 2013.

Dude - just get a Nexus 7. Easy to root/unlock and supports tons of third party roms. HDX has better HW but is a royal pain to mod and does not support your preferred rom.

2 questions about my kindle fire HDX 7

1. Can i root if I'm on 4.5.5?
2. What did they add in 4.5.5 update

Not directly. You may be able to rollback to 3.2.8 then upgrade to 4.5.2 which can be rooted. However, the procedure is risky with a significant brick potential. Also unproven on 4.5.5. I no longer provide assistance with v4>v3 rollbacks. You can find more info here. There are numerous caveats; be sure to spend and evening reading before attempting anything; ask questions if in doubt.
Amazon did not detail the changes in 4.5.5.

Fire HDX 8.9" 4.5.5 (SATURN - 4rd Gen/2014) - HELP

Hello,
My Device:
Fire HDX 8.9" (4rd Gen/2014)
Codename: SATURN
Version: 4.5.5
1) Is it possible to root it on 4.5.5? How to proceed?
2) Is there a stable CyanogenMod and which version?
Sorry, but I don't get it as most threads refer to the 3rd Gen and older OS versions. Thank you very much.

At present there are no proven root/rollback/rom options for 4th Gen HDX models running FireOS 4.5.5. You'll find some vids around stating all versions of FireOS v4 can be rooted (only valid on 3rd gen devices through 4.5.3) but you will likely end up disappointed or owning an expensive brick. Given 4.5.5 has been out awhile with no known root I think the best hope lies FireOS v5 assuming it gets rolled out to 4th gen devices. That's were people will be looking for vulnerabilities and developing exploits.
If you absolutely need root and/or CM I would seriously consider returning your device and going with something else.

Talking to Amazon Reps, the confirm it should be coming "soon"... V 5 that is
Thank you both very much for this information. Shouldn't have updated my Fire HDX 8.9 to 4.5.5 (KingRoot can be used on 4.5.3 and below)
But I am very happy, that the annoying ads have vanished.
Code:
>$ adb devices
>$ adb shell
>$ pm block com.amazon.kindle.kso
Package com.amazon.kindle.kso new blocked state: true
>$ reboot

FYI - more banter on this topic (link).
Hey Guys,
I got my new HDX 8.9 from Amazon today (should be 2014 with SD805 and 64GB/Wifi) but my OS is 4.2 with an Update waiting to 4.5.3 (just those numbers in the settings, nothing like 14.4.....). Is it possible to unlock the bootloader and get a new Custom Rom with 4.2? I learned FireOS is utterly useless for me...
Thanks,
Hermelinmaster
BTW: First post, but i use XDA since Galaxy S2 root and Custom Rom-Tutorials came up. Great Forum!

On your device (4th Gen HDX) you can not unlock the bootloader nor utilize Safestrap to host a custom rom (Safestrap v4 only works on 3rd gen HDX devices). Unfortunately, your only option is FireOS. Might as well let it upgrade as there is no benefit to staying on 4.2. It will eventually update to 4.5.5 which appears to be the terminal sub-release in the 4.x series.
If you are thinking there must be some other path there isn't (or at least one that has been widely published/noticed). No root option either.
If Amazon follows through and ports FireOS v5 to the HDX you will have an environment closer to native Android and potentially a new vulnerability that can be leveraged to install a different ROM . Until then you can soften the FireOS v4 experience by sideloading apps and/or utilizing a 3rd party marketplace like 1Mobile.

The Amazon Marketplace and some sideloaded Apps are for most of my app-needs enough but 1. I need Widgets and 2. I need some Google-Apps. And those seem to cause some trouble.
Think I just wait for End of January and send it back or sell it (got it quite cheap, now I know why) if there are no new methods for Custom Roms by then...
Thanks for your help.

Looking to install Android on Fire HDX 7" 4.5.5.1

I've grown tired of the limitations of FireOS and the Amazon appstore and I'd like to install a more standard android version on the device. I want to get a few things right though before a I begin. Most importantly, which available android version would you all recommend? I'm ready to follow all steps to backup and root the device, but is there anything else the community suggests being aware of before I begin?
Hi.. I'm actually looking to wipe out my FireOS and install a ROM. Same Kindle Fire HDX 7 4.5.5.1. You can look up the steps that Davey has been providing another user in here

KingRoot is the best option assuming device is running FireOS v4 (post back if on v3; there's an easier method). Multiple attempts may be required along with a factory reset. KingRoot is unsophisticated beast that often reports failure when a root exploit is known to exist. If you opt to reset do not register device with Amazon during initilization as it can reduce the odds of a successful root.
If you aiming to install the Play Store be aware it will not work (well) as Google Play Services/Frwmework and FireOS v4 do not cooperate. You will need to unlock the bootloader and install a custom ROM first. Details here.
Be prepared for some long reads/nights and frustrating misfires. This is an aging device with limited support. Ask targeted questions as needed (might not get an immediate response). Don't expect hand holding or a scripted tutorial. If new to rooting and/or tethered operations you should probably consider another device.
What is the best custom rom for the Kindle Fire HDX 7 in your opinion? I am going to root mine which I know how to do already and I am just wondering what is the smoothest running for the HDX 7.

I believe your device is currently running a KitKat build of Fire Nexus. Doesn't get much smoother than that. However, if you desire a more contemporary UI any of the Nougat builds should work fine. I'm partial to LineageOS but don't interpret that as a ding against the others. Note: you will need to unlock the bootloader to use any of the Nougat based ROMs; root is not sufficient. Also note Fire Nexus is already rooted.
I am referring to my other Kindle Fire HDX 7 that has never been rooted. I have two they are my kids' kindles. The one that you helped me fix is running Thor. The other that I am considering rooting is running the latest update to the Kindle Fire OS for the HDX 7 which is 4.5.5.1. My son wants Google play on it but I was able to add a bunch of his favorite apps from Google Play onto it using Dropbox and transfering the APKs from his phone to his kindle with Astro and all the apps we transferred worked except Mario Run which requires Google Play Services. If I can keep him happy with it the way it is I am not going to root it but if I decide to I was just curious which was the most preferred.

Thanks for the kind works. I am a big fan of "if it ain't broke don't fix it". Queue collective gasp from die-hard tinkerers. If you son can get by with his device the way it is leave it alone. You'll both be happier for it.
