[Q] Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100 - EXTREMELY HOT - which kernel/rom would be best? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I saw tons of similar topics, tried many solutions but any profited.
I use kernel cm 3.0.64
tried CyanogenMod 12.1 (Lollipop)
currently using : CyanogenMod 11 M12
CPU Temperature while doing nothing : 30-40 C
CPU Temperatura with GPS + Maps + Wifi - even 77 C !!!
I need to change the ROM, because I have problem with GPS in my C11M12 (tried changing gps.conf and other solutions but didnt help).
I downgraded from CM12 (Lollipop) because I had GSM Service problem and also available fixes didnt help. On both ROMs temperature is similar
As we all know that is common problem with S2 I want to check other ROMs and post my recommendation to particular ROM+kernel for other users.
Which do you recommend me to start with?
PS
As I understand the result of high temperature CPU is extremely battery drainage. Yesterday I started to charge when battery was 10% and after some time while charging and using was .... 7%

[Q] NEO V - Wifi issue with (Rom&Kernel) KANG TEAM XPERIA AOKP 34-26,4,2012

I installed the Build 34 of this ROM and flashed the sirkay kernel in my Neo V. I am having a strange issue with Wifi speed. It is not slow consistently but it downloads few KBs in good speed and then pauses for 2-3 minutes then downloads the next few KBs. I tried the suggestions in the ROM thread.
a. Search for /etc/tiwlan.ini but could not find a file like that
b. Changing channel from 11 to 1 in my Wifi router, but that also did not work out
c. Tried with the original Kernel same issue
I love this ROM especially with the customizations it offers compared to plain CM 9 with FXP. But due to this Wifi issue am not able to use this on daily basis. Am not able to post this on dev forum as am a N00B, anyone please help
Regards,
Ram
When i updated to ICS, i am also having this issue. now i am waiting and keep searching on every thread for a solution. Because even SONY also be silent on this WIFI issue !!! ...
Thanks for the response. I am not getting the issue with FXP 117 CM9 on default kernel, Wifi works as usual on that. In fact it is my daily use ROM for now.

Ram

[Q] Undervolting the GPU of the I9100

Hallo community,
i was reading here in forums about overclocking the S2 to find the solution matching my needs. I want to UNDER-clock my phone to get a better batterylife.
I allready made many optimizations so I have really good Bat-Time.
Now I'm at the point where it comes to Undervolting. Unfortunately the solutions shown here in forums dont work for my setup.
I have a i9100 + Supernexus2.0 build4 ROM (AOSP 4.2.2) + DorimanX 8.13 Kernel
CPU-Undervolting is no problem......the problem starts when it comes to modify GPU-settings. None of the Software discussed here regognizes my GPU. Antutu for example says "GPU not supported" on GPU-tab. (tryed "voltage control", "antutu", "setCPU" "Tegrak" NS-tools" and many others )
Now I'm on the point where I accept, that there is no simple-software-solution to automize my settings (or perhaps I didn't see it) and I try it with "STweaks"
So what I going to try now is to modify the the different steps and set a voltage/mhz manual everytime I boot-up.
But in other Forum-posts I read, that there are 3-GPU-steps. In STweaks there are shown 5 steps to me ?!
I dont have the right clue what Step is set in which state. What does these steps mean exactly ?
Can anyone help me how to Undervolt my GPU correctly ? I dont need 267MHz+1050mV. I'm happy with 160MHz and 900mV (for example) The games I play are not very hungry. Also I heared from other users that undervolting there GPU gave them +3 Hours playing time, unfortunatly I can't reproduce that here
Is it perhaps because I have 4.2.2 ROM with newest DorimanX, that I cant do the solutions that work for others ?
THX 4 any help
best regards
revnu

[i9100] How to get a fast and smooth running Galaxy S2 GT-i9100 with Nougat 7.1.1

A fast, smooth running Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 with Nougat 7.1.1, is it possible? Sure, but it is best not to use the latest ROM build. After many tests and comparisons of various Nougat ROMs based on LineageOS I've found out this. The development of the ROM is ongoing very quick, but it's made for many devices. The performance of the CPU is not taken into account. Our S2 is now some years old (since 2011) and has only a CPU with two cores. Standard today is at least a phone with quad core CPU.
Comparing a Nougat 7.1.1 ROM from February 2017 with a current build clearly shows you that the older one runs much faster. This is mainly noticeable when scrolling or if you open apps. In the current ROM there are often lags, it simply needs more performance.
To get the maximum out, a few tweaks with a modded Kernel Adiutor from XDA are necessary, the CPU frequency is set to minimum and maximum 1200 MHz. The battery drain of course is a bit higher - not much, but you have more joy with a smooth running S2.
What do you need for this?
I did made the best experience with AICP 12.1 ROM, build in February 07 2017. you get it here. It runs very stable for daily usage. Only the camera app Snap.apk is buggy at video recordings. You can change this by installing the latest one in my attachment.
The modded XDA Kernel Adiutor is attached too.
The CPU and ondemand governor settings (CPU Governor Tunables) you see on my screenshots. Make sure that the "Apply on boot" toggle is set to on.

Jelly Bean has its own, "built-in" recovery. Unfortunately, I am not aware of whether you can take another recovery for it. I know there is a flashable CWM recovery via Odin for the S2 (I have it here). But this is intended for flashing custom ROMs.
@Nobby1960
Hi, good instruction.
Useful article.

I allways used this file "PhilZ-cwm6-XXLSJ-OXX-4.00b21-signed-JB.zip" and installed it via stock Recovery. (no waranty void message after rebooted system). Copy this file on your SDCard, reboot in Recovery Mode and flash it. Now you can keep runing your device on stock ROM or you can install a custom one with this recovery.
The link to AICP 12.1 ROM is not working; I get 404 Not Found.

Thank you for information. The ROM is no more available on the AICP server. I did upload it to a one click hoster (upload.net) The link in my first post works now again.
Would you still recommend this rom today ? or would the official lineage 7.1.2 be better than this now ?

Compared with the latest AICP 12.1 build from 07/10 it's not necessary to jump back to this older version. The performance from all latest Lineage based ROMs became better. The only thing I use the Kernel Adiutor with the performance settings from my first post. I think you can also use the latest official plain vanilla Lineage 7.1.2.
Hi,
thanx for your instructions. I have tried it!
One problem with the setting where i'm unsure: at the end of the settings, the core2 disabled itself and the minimum frequency was set to 100 automatically. I changed the frequency back to 12.000. Is that OK, or should i leave it at 100 ?
btw. I still have installed stock_kernel_twrp_1120. Is that OK, or do i need another kernel?
Anyway, at this point the CPU tweak has made the perforance a little faster, but it's still much worse than Android 4.12
On 4.12 i was running 5 aktive apps the same time without problems. (Navi, RadarWarning, Mp3, GPSLog, + 1 temporarly app)
On Lineage 14.1 the Mp3 already beginns to stutter and the systems gets very slow when i run only 2 Apps. If i start more apps they beginn to chrash.
So i want to ask, is it possible somehow to get the same (or even better) performance with a custom rom like with the original stock 4.12 ?
Thanks for Info,
Rooster
Hi,
hmm - all settings are correct from the governor like the screenshots in Kernel Adiutor? Both CPU frequencies should set to 1200 MHz. In idle time core 2 stops to save battery, but it must switch up at load to 1200 MHz automatically.
The stock_kernel_twrp_1120 is okay to install this ROM. If you boot in recovery after installation you must see the newer TWRP 3.0.2-1 and you can flash the latest TWRP 3.1.0-0 as an .img file.
The problem with Nougat and most modern apps is, the generally RAM consumption gets higher and higher - that's the biggest bottleneck. So the S2 with only 784 MB comes faster to its limits at multitasking than with the latest stock ROM 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and older, more slim apps. Unfortunately there is no chance to get a higher performance with Nougat. There you feel the age of our good old phone from 2011, it came first with Android 2.3.x Gingerbread

Phone shutting down at 40%

Hi,
As the title stated, I have Redmi Note 3 SD with LineageOS installed. My phone suddenly dies at 40% when I put it on standby. Sometimes when I open camera app, it dies at 50%. I've tried many ROM including ViperOS, RR, but I haven't tried with MIUI yet mainly because I don't really like MIUI.
Have any of you guys get same experience as mine? What you guys do about it?
I'm planning to replace the battery because I thought it was the battery problem. But if you guys have any suggestions that would be great!
Thanks!
Update the IOS problem will be solved with new 11.2.1 version.
Just kidding
I would replace the Battery to fix issues like this if you the only one related to a specific Rom.
If you search trough the los thread you will see that some people had the same issue. I am not sure how they fixed it but i think some of the custom kernels had a patch to deal with this issue. I cant remember which one ( agni or radon) so you should search trough and/or ask those kernel developers.
This problem solved by changing kernel to francokernel. Thanks!

Hello ! Best xperia x custom rom ?

Hi everyone, i have been trying lately to improve my xperia x roms and tried a few of them but none seemed to work properly, sometimes random crashing or battery not charging ...
i was hoping you could help me chose a stable rom for everyday use and gaming (mostly emulation).
thank you in advance !!
I only tried "Unofficial LineageOS 16.0 for Xperia X" and "Unofficial AOSP9r46[X-X Dualsim-X Compact]". AOSP has less issues thanks to more modern kernel/drivers & you can use GCam, but of course it lacks all the comfortable things any LineageOS ROM comes with. The LineageOS has a black screen issue which occurs relatively seldom, but still regularly. It happens when you open an app, most often when switching fast between apps like when sharing a file with an app. You then have to kill that app which has gone black, but very seldom you need to reboot since the black screen is so that you even can't see the Android touchscreen buttons anymore to click back/previous app/homescreen.
I you install AOSP make sure to install the version you'll find deep in the thread and the updated boot.img. The folders on my harddrive are named "20200422 build with 4.9.219 kernel update" and "Updated boot.img with 4.9.230 kernel" which contain the files "AOSP-9-F5121-20200422-4.9.219brcmfmac.zip" and "20201003-aosp9-bootimage-4.9.230-f5121.zip" respectively and I noted down the following in a txt-file:
Edit : new boot.img with 4.9.230 kernel should be flashed instead of the one in full ROM archive, should fix some of the intempestive reboots (CPU frequency fix).
Only quickly tested on Kugo. Have the old boot.img at hand in case of problem.

TWRP I'm using is TWRP v3.3.1 for Xperia X (twrp-3.3.1-0-suzu.img).
Btw I never had charging issues, so make sure it's not a dirt/dust or hardware issue (worn out battery can also cause stability issues.
