[Q] Where is the location of the camera start sound file? - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all.
I realize this question has been asked before, but I can't seem to find an answer anywhere.
I need to disable the sound the phone makes when you quick-start the camera app.
Not through tapping on the camera app in the menu, but starting it through the hard camera button on the side.
Again, this is not the shutter sound. It cannot be disabled in the camera app, which is why I am trying to find the sound file itself and rename it to a .bak.
I tried disabling the sounds in the /system/media/audio folder, but no luck. I have reason to think it is in the /system/priv-app folder, but I'm not sure.
P.S. I know the sound is there for privacy reasons, but I think it just makes the device feel like a child's toy.
Thanks for your time everyone.

It is inside the app itself. You will need to decompile the app to modify it. The sound file is called start_up_notifier.wav

You're right cachanilla86, seems to be in /system/priv-app/SemcCameraUI. Thanks!
I tried modifying the apk by extracting it, and ruined the file's signature.
Now the phone won't start the camera.
Oh well. Good thing I backed up!

[Q] How to disable camera shutter sound?

Is it possible to disable the camera shutter sound on the SGS2? It's very loud and kind of annoying.
I'm going to a wedding at the weekend and it would be nice to be able to take pictures without pissing off the entire church.
Put the phone in silent mode when using the camera that should do the trick without any trickery
Silent mode doesn't make any difference, it's still the same.
Anyone know if there's a good camera app without shutter sound I can use instead?
Even when i have it on silent mode, it still makes the shutter sound
There is no setting to disable it in camera settings anymore?
You could do it on SGS...
Try turning media volume down
You need root
Go to /system/media/ui/
Then delete the files got to do with the camera including the shutter

Yup, someone wanna chuck us the camera apk? Should be possible to fix it that way..
Or, as someone said, try renaming the sound file in media to whatever.ogg.OLD
I think all UK phones have to comply with anti-voyeurism laws which is why all phones there have the camera shutter no matter what. If you have rooted your phone I think you could easily delete or modify the shutter sound though...

Sorry guys, new to this, I've tried to rename the file using fs explorer and it will not allow me to either re name or delete the file, any advice would be gratefully received

Use root explorer, you can and need to enable write access in order to change/rename files at root level.
Got the shutter sound deleted but there is still a beep when it focuses. Any ideas?

Hmmm... I have an idea. I will take a look later on at making a new apk

From the code, I see there should be a setting to enable or disable autofocus sound.
Can you please confirm if this exists before I go much further into this. Usually you tap menu, or press a settings button on-screen in camera to get some options.
Looks like it can be disabled.

OK. You can try pulling the APK, then removing the file in res/raw/. Delete the ogg file with the obvious name like AutoFocus.ogg (not got the file to hand)
Back up the old one before doing this! Then replace the file on the device with this one. Reboot, see if it works. If it doesn't and camera doesn't appear, then you need to restore the backup and reboot again. That should fix it
If it crashes when focussing, we need to replace the OGG with an "empty" ogg, but then re-sign the APK, which will involve editing packages.xml
while were on the subject, is it possible to remove the parental control set in place, that prevents the camera from being opened if the battery is >15%, and where it kills your music, when you open the camera? i will personally donate $25 dollars if you did that. and forever praise you as the best developer in the world
(very serious about the donation tho)

Cerberus Caused Loss of Touch Sounds

Hi I installed Cerberus (remote locating software) for my S3. I have CF root, running on stock firmware LG8.
I used a zip to flash Cerberus (from the website) using CWM so I could get extra features which I did about 6 days ago. I tried to use Cerberusapp.com to test if everything is working today and it wasn't responding as it should. The feature I used was take an immediate pic using front camera.
I exited from the webapp and then tried to use the camera and it would open but then I was met with an error message saying Camera: failed or something similar to that and then the camera app would close.
I restarted the phone and camera was working fine. But now the keypad tones when you press back button, menu button, or when you swipe to unlock screen have disappeared.
Loudspeaker works when I play music and other things. Earpiece works when I make calls.
But the splish/splash sounds won't work at all. Also, when I boot the phone up, the sound the accompanies the Samsung animation boot logo doesn't play either.
How do I rectify this? I don't want to reflash with stick f/w through Odin if it can be avoided and if there is of course a simple fix.
Thanks
at a guess the app disables sounds so as not to alert the thief that you are taking photo of them. I would imagine the app developer is your best bet for a solution, but check and see if in system/media the app might of places a .nomedia file or some such disabling file

I think I'll have to e-mail the support team because it doesn't seem like it's intentional.
The keypad tones and sounds have gone but the shutter sound when taking a photo is still there. Also, why would it affect the sound on the boot animation?
Using rootexplorer I've looked through the system/media and other folders but there's no sign of anything that shouldn't be there.
It was all working as expected before this little error occurred. When taking pics using Cerberus the camera wouldn't make a sound but the key press sounds would still make a sound.
Anyway, thanks for your help, I'll give the developer a shout and if nothing can be resolved I might just reflash and do it all over again.

Mystery Data file in Gallery

I keep getting a mystery data file in my gallery app. I try to play the file because it shows up as a video but it doesn't work. I delete it and it eventually comes back. Here is a screenshot of the details of it. Does anyone have a suggestion of where this is coming from and how to get rid of it? Thanks!
I have the same thing. I think it showed up when I made a video available off line on drive. I haven't tried to get rid of it yet so I'm not completely sure on that.

TTS = text to speech, so it is probably related to that.
TTS File
I believe this is caused by a misplaced cache file used by TTS (Text-to_Speech) that is showing up in your gallery. It was probably created if you opened the TTS service under Accessibility in the Settings app. It should be safe to delete but may reappear if TTS is activated, directly or indirectly, again.

I have it set to googles text to speech. There is no way to turn text to speech off. Pretty sure I didn't touch it.

It looks like your gallery is mistaking the .tts file for a video file. Apparently .tts can be a file extension for MPEG-2 video formats. Check out this link for more information.
If you want it to stop showing up (and you are rooted) use a file explorer to put a blank ".nomedia" file in the /storage/external_SD/Android/data/ folder and reboot your phone. Or if I remember right, the G3 has a way to hide media files which you dont want to be seen or want to keep private.

Shazam and Soundhound Type Apps No Longer Picking Up Sound

This doesn't appear to be a mic issue, since I can still give commands to Ok Google and the like without issue. I did mess around with a Volume Boost mod that tweaked the mixer_paths.xml file a bit ago, and I'm wondering if that was the culprit. At the time, I didn't think to back up the original file, but the thread included a backup, which might have been for a different build (it looks like that backup has since been removed, so I can't check to verify).
Could someone upload the default "mixer_paths.xml" file for build 32.2.A.0.253, so I can see if that's where the fault lie?
Thanks for any help anyone may be able to offer.
Do they have the permission to "Register voice" ?

I'm not certain, but I eventually got the issue resolved by replacing the mixer_paths.xml file in another thread. So all's good now.

Camera shutter sound

Hey everyone
I just got this phone and so far it's been cool and good, I really like it despite the display quality being off in perspective to my galaxy s6
Anyways, I digress, in the camera app I can turn the shutter sound off but it seems that any other third party app like Snapchat or Instagram keep this shutter sound
It's really bugging, I need it gone so I don't disturb people around me or something...
Things I've tried:
Screenshot sound off
Camera sound off from camera settings
Phone to silent
Phone to DND
All volume sliders to 0
Nothing works, any idea before I throw root on it and delete some files?
I didn't find anything that'd work.
Decided to unlock and install LOS 16.
All good now, except IR Camera and hotspot.

I'm going to wait before throwing a custom rom on it but I'm probably going to root and take the files out

Hello there, can you point me to the directory for Instagram and Snapchat files? I am currently rooted and would really like to remove the shutter sounds as they are very annoying. Thank you.

I'm pretty sure you can delete the file camera_click.ogg from system/media/audio/ui
Make sure to keep a backup first of the file in case something goes wrong.
Additional files related to camera sounds that may need to be deleted to are: camera_focus.ogg, videorecord.ogg, videostop.ogg
