Power button - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, i've searched all over the internet for the same problem and i couldnĀ“t find anyone who've experienced this.
Where's what happened, my power button started to mal-function after my phone restarted. Now i cant lock or unlock the screen with it. The funny thing is that if I press it long enough it shows that [Shutdown/restart] menu. And if i keep pressing it it will soft reset the phone as usual.
I've already tried an app to se wich keys are being pressed to rule out the stuck key problem. The phone no longer recognizes the quick press of the key to lock/unlock, it only recognizes the long press of the power button.
Also today it refused to identify the charger and didn't charge at all, dunno if it as something to do with it.
My phone is the Wiko Wax, rooted, custom rom( Tesla 0.4.9a) android 4.4.4, with custom kernel as well.
I have already re-flashed everything, formated my phone and everything, but it doesn't seem to get fixed.
This started to happen after the phone restarted it self, without me doing anything to it

[Q]Screen Won't Turn on after going in sleep mode.

Hello there
I have a Touch Pro device, and since yesterday evening, after the phone goes in sleep mode (or after i press the power button), it doesn't turn back on. I can't reset, can't Hard reset even. If i call the phone, it rings, but the screen doesn't turn on, neither the illumination of the keys, or the keyboard. If I take out the battery and put it back, it boots OK, screen works, until it goes to sleep mode, after that... the same.
I had Romeos ROMeOSĀ² v1.90.2] when the problem started, now i was able to flash it to ShEp's Rom Ver 2.3a][WinMo 6.5][Build 21198 Ver 2][TF3D Ver 2] and the problem still persists.
Thanks for your help.
Update: I haven't done anything and now it's does not even boot, it vibrates when its turned on, and i can hear the start up melody, bot no screen and no keyboard illumination.
might help
I'm no expert, but have you tried Bootloader mode? If you can get into bootloader mode after taking out the battery and restarting, try flashing Hard SPL again then a stock ROM with a radio. With the phone plugged into the USB port it shouldn't go to sleep. If that doesn't work it may be bricked.
Untill now the phone started after i took the battery out, and i flashed it to another rom. Even after this it started up after i took the battery out, after that i haven't done anything and now it doesn't screen wont start even after i took the battery out.
The only thing i didn't try was hardspl again......
OOh man, i was trying to do a hard reset without the screen. and now if i turn the phone on, every time i press vol down/up after i certain time, the phone vibrates as when you turn it on. It's stuck at the hard reset phase ?
How is the hard reset ? Vol up to hard reset and after that vol up to boot ?
Suggest you read the wiki
Have a look at the wiki for beginners. Hard reset is normally hold VOLUME DOWN AND CENTER BUTTON then reset with stylus.
Thank you for beeng so friendly and helpfull, since the display was off, i asked what too push AFTER entering the hard reset screen. It was VolUp to hard reset, and afther that VolUp again to reboot. Or VolDown... It doesen't matter, i took the phone back to Orange warranty
I don't know what will they say... HardSPL+ Custom Rom... But phone won't start so mabey they wont notice
Cheers

[Q] S2 wakes up by itself then freezes when power button is pressed

My Galaxy S2 started behaving strangely all of a sudden:
After a few minutes in standby, it wakes up by itself.
If I press the power button when this happens, it freezes completely. The only thing it will do after that is power off, if I do another long press on the power button.
But if I swipe out the lock screen instead and play around in it, it will respond normally, until I press the power button again, in which case - as you might guess - it will freeze completely.
I have the stock firmware from Orange Romania on it, and it still behaves exactly the same after a hard reset.
The problem occurs with different SIM cards inserted in it, as well as with no SIM inserted.
Any ideas on how to fix this, or on how to identify the culprit here?

Android 2.3.3
Baseband version I9100BVKH1
Build Number Gingerbread.BVKH1
A possible solution is to flash an insecure kernel (e.g. cfroot) via odin and flash a custom rom. but this will void your warranty.
Or you could flash a stock rom thru odin
Backup data and factory reset would be my first step .

The problem was still there after doing a factory reset, with no apps installed. But I've flashed Cyanogenmod 7.1 since then, and it seems like everything is fine now.
I would still be interested to find out if there's a way to identify the cause of this problem, or if there's a workaround for it, though.

Please Help, Soft Brick after font install T Mobile

So Heres Whats Up, I Succesfully Rooted My Device.... Heck Yea..... Only One Problem..... I Decided To Add A Custom Font And Well Bad Idea ..... Seems some thing get wrong. I suggest factory reset:
Power off the device.
At the same time, press and hold the following keys for 8 seconds: Power key, Home key, and Volume down key.
After 8 seconds or when the Android displays, release the keys. The Master Reset will automatically start.
Ive Already Tried This, The Adroid Boots For A Moment And Shows The Reset Icon..... Shuts Down And Reboots Like Its Going To Work And Then Stops At T-Mobile

[Q] VivaX TPC-7151 factory reset and recovery help

Hey XDA, you did informed me and help me a lot when I would search for a solution and find it on your forums. But now I had to make account in order to find solution for particular one here (I suppose this is a correct topic, please move if I'm wrong):
I forgot to change a really bad pattern password back to regular slide lock, and I didn't know the combination. After trying few times most combinations that I ha din my head, it suddenly asked me a google account in order to unlock it. Well, I know it, I type it and as soon as I press "sign in", a message flashes that it is loading something (just for a split second) and..... nothing. Still there, at same lock screen. I tried those without @gmail.com and null password but nothing worked, none of combinations. I read somewhere that other solution is wipe data or factory reset. Well, I'm okay with that, but how do I enter recovery mode or boot menu where I can access that?? I don't have USB debugging on, I'm sure of that, and my tablet isn't rooted (it was rooted before, but it went on service once for data wiping and it came back un-rooted I suppose)
I don't have hard reset button, but I do have physical back button on side of tablet that I can click, but I never use it. I tried with holding power button and volume up. When it shows me that image of opened android with red triangle warning sign. I release power button and now I'm stuck with that image on my screen, not knowing what to do! I can press power + volume up again to turn off tablet. Power + volume down activates safe mode and turns on tablet, atleast I discovered that feature...
If you know how to get pass that lock screen that asks for google account, anything how to wipe data with locked out tablet I would be very pleased to hear it (technically see it on here). My tablet is still in its case, locked out, and turned off for now.
Note: If I manage to get to pattern lock screen again somehow, that will also work for me. I'm sure I know correct pattern.

I've tried long pressing on power button, long pressing on power button+volume up button, long pressing on power button+volume up button+volume down button quite many time, but those doesn't work and the phone hasn't come back it's normal operation.

Hi Linn
How did you solve your problem?
Hi have exactly the same problem at this moment and, as you, I tried everything (except the hammer but it was close...)
Really need a solution for this!
I like the phone but this way I have to buy another one and other brand for sure...
Thanks (from Portugal)
I suppose you both solved this, one war or other, but maybe someone else looks for a solution to this.
As the S8 is a MTK-phone, it's never really "dead" until it's defective. You can always revive it. So stay cool.
All you need is a Windows-PC with working VCOM-drivers, the SP-Flash-Tool and a ROM. You can get all that on www.elephone.hk/downloads (at least until today... if it's no longer there, you need to google for all that).
The problem is to shut the phone off.
Of course you can just let it boot-loop until the battery is empty, if you can take the time.
Otherwise there's no simple and foolproof way to shut it off if it's in loop.
Try everything you can imagine with the three buttons. Especially pressing the power-button for "ages". Try pressing any volume-button simultaneously, too. I had my S8 bricked to bootloop several times yesterday and today, while fiddling around with all ROMs I could find.
Sooner or later I got the phone to shut off. I somehow got it into the testing-menu, too, which is yellow and chinese and which won't help you.
I even somehow managed to boot into recovery several times, which offers "shutdown"-option. I have the impression that the S8 enters recovery eventually when it fails to boot often enough, but that's just a guess.
Anyway, once the phone is off, you have won.
Start the SP-Flash-Tool, load the scatter-file from your desired ROM (which is probably 20171018), unplug the phone, press "download", and then plug the phone to USB. You might have to press vol+ oder vol- while plugging it in, but if it's recognized, the SP Flash Tool will start flashing the ROM and your phone is up and running again.
Problem solved
I think this is too complex anyway.
The battery was empty after some days.
It was too bad lose so many information but I had to live with that.
So, finally the hammer solve the problem in less then a second...
Thank you very much. Is nice to know there are people helping to solve some problems.

Please also find all required files for rooting the Elephone S8 at:
https://www.mediafire.com/file/k1ldc..._root.rar/file
I hope this helps.
To turn phone off, hold all 3 buttons for about 15 seconds the phone will look like it's powering down but then restart after about 2 seconds just KEEP holding all 3 buttons and it will power off properly. In other words hold all 3 buttons for about 45 secs to power down if in a boot loop. Once powered down hold volume down whilst plugging into USB to flash.
