Basic Device Information
Released in January 2014, the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 is a phablet with mid-range specifications and a nice low price. It is the successor to the Ascend Mate, which was not offered in America.
There are quite a few variants of the Huawei Ascend Mate 2, and it is very important to know which one you have. Do NOT use files for your device if the files are for a different device! Some variants have minute differences that make a large difference. Partitions are different, SOC's are different, radios are different, etc etc. You have been warned! This applies to other devices as well, obviously.
If you bought your HAM2 from GetHuawei.com or Amazon in America, you have the MT2-L03 version.
As of July 3rd, 2015, non-L03 models are updated to 4.4 KitKat (please notify if not) with a Lollipop update scheduled for sometime July 2015, and the unlocked L03 is updated to 5.1 Lollipop. Carrier-specific L03's (such as Consumer Cellular) are still on Jelly Bean, and allegedly Consumer Cellular are in the process of updating the HAM2.
If you have the Consumer Cellular HAM2 and don't want to wait, @Kostyan_nsk, @ArkAngel06, @xordos, and @tdamocles have successfully come up with a way to convert the Consumer Cellular L03 to an unlocked L03! Thread here. According to post #7, this works for Wind Mobile users as well! :good:
On August 18, 2015, @u-ra released a preview of CM12.1 for the L03, making it the first custom ROM for the L03. Be sure to thank him and mdmower! And read the instructions as well!
On August 25, 2015, thenameisnigel and CarbonROM released an unofficial beta PAC MAN ROM and official nightly CarbonROM respectively. Thank them too!
On December 3, 2015, @jsbeyond gave us another ROM choice with an unofficial crDROID ROM. Send him your thanks!

For the best possible (learning) experience, I highly recommend you watch superbass311's tutorial videos as well.
Instructions for flashing custom ROMs are not included to encourage users to try the stock ROM first.

This is awesome. Thanks for doing it. (I know, don't post Thank yous.) I also hit your Thanks button until I couldn't thank anymore.

Would like to mention this here and now so others will see it as I have witness this to become an issue in the past on other devices.
Over time links may no longer work and guides/mods/etc may become outdated. If/Should this become the case, do not complain, instead, notify the OP respectfully with the problem and solution (should you have one) so he can make proper changes to the index.

Definitely like that lol.
Everyone be sure to press on the thanks button for @ScoobSTi. Maintaining an index can get overwhelming at times.

Thanks for the links. Excellent work. I hate to sound like I'm blowing my own trumpet as it were, but my guide to rooting the Asian phones properly is probably the most important one for Asian Mate 2 users and it's a total pain to have to do it. Cool guide and thanks again mate.

Hey guys will this update if I use USB wipe out everything on my phone (media/pix/apps/music/etc...).
Got an L03 and want to get this done.

Wrong thread. This isn't the walkthrough post.

@Moody66 I just did a backup and got the 309 file, I don't have an SD card so I want to be pointed in the right direction, do you mind telling me where the guide is how to do it with USB cable
I installed the 2.8.7.3 twrp for 4.3 and 5.1 recovery

The update wipes the internal storage. That's why they say you need an SD card.

@medwatt I did a backup so now I'm not worried about the apps and data, but is there a way to do the update without an SD card, I don't have an SD card... Is there a tool which I can do this with via USB?

It's not a question of apps and data. Where do suppose the update files are going to be stored when the internal SD is being formatted.

I got an SD card... placed it in root extracted dload and hit the right buttons then get Software install failed!
I was reading it seems if its a wind or customer variant u cant do anything about it.. but it doesnt say wind or customer variant anywhere on back or inside with cover off just mtl03
---------- Post added at 08:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:38 PM ----------
I reverted from TWRP to the stock recovery
It still errors and when I try to "apply update from external storage"
I tried picking update.app and i tried picking update_vendor.app and it gave me update packages' ext name error. installation aborted
---------- Post added at 08:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:05 PM ----------
If I go through about phone > system update > local update it goes into to stock bootloader and gives me the error update.app is invalid package and when checking update_vendor.app oemsbl version list check error!

[Q] MT2-L03 EMUI 3.0 Update

Hello guys, first time posting here.
The huawei website recently release emui 3.0 and a download for mt2-l03 is available. I downloaded it and it gave me a 113 mb .gz file. I'm new to android so I haven't been able to figure out how to update it. I went to the update app, and update in settings apps, both of which I believe are the same and both failed to locate the update file. I also went into recovery, power button and volume up, and haven't had any luck there.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

**UPDATE**
I realize now that the file huawei has posted for download are the source codes for the kernel.
So new question is how do I compile the source code. I have access to ubuntu, os x and windows 7.
You have the URL listed wrong.......

---------- Post added at 03:23 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:46 AM ----------
This is just the kernel source, but this does give us some hope that Huawei is actually going to release EMUI 3.0 (and Kitkat underneath it) for the USA HAM2 (MT2-L03).... wouldn't that be an awesome surprise!
So with this kernel source, wouldn't it be "easy" for us to port other ROMs?
Create roms like cyanogen .. Or just plain aosp.. Or porting roms too
If this kernel is EMUI 3 the it should be KitKat right??
I think there is an inminent update soon

EASY Update! This is kind of an old post but here's my 2 cents: I acquired a Mate 2 L03 about a year ago. I immediately updated to 309 -I forget what all I had to do to get that working. Recently I got a Galaxy S7 Edge so I wanted to factory reset my Mate 2 and give it to someone. Since 309 was quite buggy on the M2 - I decided to upgrade to 322 before giving the phone away. I downloaded the 322 from Huawei site, extracted the RAR file and copied the resulting "dload" folder to a micro SD. With the SD installed in the phone I went to settings and selected factory reset - and the phone automatically upgraded to 322 from the SD card --no three-finger salute or any such thing was necessary.

[CFW][KK4.4] GomdoLight KitKat Custom Firmware Environment (System Enhancement Pack)

Hi all,
Today, I proudly present GomdoLight KitKat for KOREAN LG G / G2 / G3 / G3A / G3cat6 / Gflex / GK / Gpro / Gpro2 / LTE3 / Vu2 / Vu3 / Gpad7LTE, one of the most widely used (with 20,000+ users approximately) stock-based custom firmware in South Korea.
GomdoLight is more than 3 year old already (first version released on 19th December 2012), and is very mature.
Technically speaking GomdoLight is NOT a complete ROM, but rather a large-scale patch, which modifies official stock firmware to remove all the unnecessary components preloaded by operator/manufacturer, and reorganizes key system parts to 'basic' Android OS with manufacturer's flavor. For some devices GomdoLight's own specialized tool 'GomdoLight Sideloader' can make it possible to install GomdoLight directly over the stock firmware, even without rooting or flashing custom recovery!
GomdoLight is compatible with the following devices (BOLD indicates GomdoLight Sideloader support - no root required)
LG Optimus G: LG-F180S, LG-F180K, LG-F180L ("G")
LG G2: LG-F320S, LG-F320K, LG-F320L ("G2")

A very thorough and extensive (probably, the most extensive on entire xda) manual is provided at the download page, which contains literally everything you need to know to install GomdoLight. FAILURE TO READ THIS DOCUMENT BEFORE INSTALLING WILL ALWAYS LEAD TO VARIOUS UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY. Needless to say, I WILL NOT ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS ALREADY ADDRESSED IN THIS DOCUMENT.
Due to xda forum's limits (in functionality) I am posting a link to the separate (external) DOWNLOAD PAGE. There is no way I can link to each section in the document in xda posts, since xda does not support HTML tag. However some portions of the document are also introduced here.

UPDATE - Wave 2, revision 9
UPDATE LEVEL: MAJOR / IMPORTANCE: CRITICAL

You can always re-root using the enable.root flag (SEE http://gomdolight.flags.usage.gomdoli.us for details)

[7D-503L/501u] Lollipop 5.0 (soon 5.1 and EMU 3.1) available in beta

Hi
Ryan Orig relayed this news: with a month late (it was scheduled for september), beta Lollipop is avalaible for chinese X1:
google translate this page:
http://cn.club.vmall.com/thread-5634771-1-1.html
to know how to send your IMEI number, and then receive the beta of the first lollipop rom for X1:
7D-501uV100R002C208B011 (EMUI3.0)
7D-503LV100R002C208B011 (EMUI3.0)
It's not clear for me if the released is for october (folowing the 1 month late delay), or if the Android 5.1/Emui 3.1 is for october ?
I've signed up for the beta how much time do i have to wait to receive it do you think ?
No idea. I let you know when first non chinese signers will get any answer/push
Fingers crossed it improves my X1's reception. Very happy with my Z Ultra, solid reception, great screen and fantastic support already on 5.1.1 with the recent OTA update. HUAWEI and a lot of other manufacturers could lean a lot from Sony...
Still miss the 7 inch screen.
It's already push the upgrade to those beta testers now.
(7D-503L first,7D-501u maybe later)
some beta tester already share "update.zip" and "update.app" on cloud storage
for example : this thread cn.club.vmall.com/thread-6043036-1-1.html
(It's for 7D-503L Dual 4G SIM version)
I did not try yet, because my device is 7D-501L
someone know the 7D-503L ROM can install on 7D-501L ?

[Huawei Mediapad X1 7D-501L] new OTA from august 2017

New OTA has been released for 7D-501L:
http://hwmt.ru/hwmtsite/firmware-database/?firmware_model=7D-501L&firmware_page=0
7D-501LV100R001C151B002 (august 10th 2017) <incremental OTA>
7D-501LV100R002C100B105 (august 4th 2017) <full rom OTA>
7D-501LV100R001C199B006 (august 4th 2017) <incremental OTA>
7D-501LV100R002C100B105 (july 27th 2017) <incremental OTA>
WARNING I THINK THOSE UPDATES OFFER ONLY EMUI 2.3 (please confirm if you try them). SO LESS INTERESTING THAN EMUI 3 ROMS : TAIWAN B013 (with Limited languages) OR CHINESE B011 FOR 501L (with google to be installed on).
Of course all rom in this post are Kikat roms, lollipops roms for X1 are still betas and not bugs-free!
To install them, you have to be on a kitkat rom, and put the whole update.zip in a dload folder at the root of your external or internal SDcard. And then do a EMUI local update ('Settings', 'Updater', 'Menu' and 'Local update')
---
To download and install , you can also use Huawei Firmware Finder (Android app or Windows software)
for android, use the app + its proxy to receive an OTA, see https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLgw3d3fHTj5E33lNsLcCwcgoraZmfin7V and other tutorials videos on Youtube from several users.
The B105 is for Europe (CUST100), android 4.4.2, EMU 2.3 (??):
http://ministryofsolutions.com/2017/08/huawei-mediapad-x1-7d-501l-firmware-b105-emui-2-3-europe.html
Thank you
The BETA lollipop was buggy. It has been a long time since there has been an upgrade. Thanks will try it out.
It should be an update of European B103, but please confirm the EMUI 2. 3 feature. Thanks
Feedback
I've tried it. To make it work via the sd card i needed to copy the update.app from the modem directory out above. On the version i'm on B103 but after the upgrade it still says B103 but the kernel has changed. I downloaded the full OTA B105. Is this correct ?
Screen shot after the Full OTA B105 upgrade. Note only the kernel shows the 2017 update. Emui is 2.3 Build ware B103 and not B105.
Forgot to add that i was on version B103 before i upgraded to the B105. As there were a number of B105 links i chose the FullOTA on the remarks to use as the upgrade. Thanks.
I didn't succeed to upgrade to B105 from B103. There are a lot of files in update.zip and update.app is a only for the modem...

new OTA incremental update available:
7D-501LV100R001C151B002 (august 10th 2017) <incremental OTA>
(so for device with C151B001 ? Anyway Huawei updater will let you ijstall if you want to try!)

In fact, update from this database (this is a view from huawei database extracted by Firmwar finder develloper) are not installable via official dload method (as they are OTA to get to your device). Sorry about wrong inital information .
BUT, the 7D-501LV100R002C100B105 (august 4th 2017) <full rom OTA> this one only could be installed with official dload method, see here)
To install the others, don't try dload offical method. But please use:
Huawei Firmware Finder (Android app or Windows software)
for android, use the app + its proxy to receive an OTA, see https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLgw3d3fHTj5E33lNsLcCwcgoraZmfin7V and other tutorials videos on Youtube from several users.
or
Huawei updater (Windows software, to use with Hisuite), as it now work for any huawei device (use the update file name and url, as found on database )
(install methods added to post 1 here)

For 501u, the chinese B011 kitkat EMUI 3 is far better(chinese B113 is lollipop, but unfortunatly buggy) . Forget this 501L B105 kitkat EMUI 2.3 ...
Changngs EMUI version will really boost your device.

For those .zip without update.app, you have put the whole update.zip in the dload folder. And then do a local update ('Settings', 'Updater', 'Menu' and 'Local update') . IT was the same when I installed my full european B103 (wich was a 135 Mb incremental update for B102)
see here (point 3) also !
I've just check, and ministry of solution's huawei link for B105 is the same as the one in firmawer finder database. So definitly not installable with dload/update.app (so the site is wrong, I did correct post #!)
BUT if put the whole update.zip in the dload folder + do a local update works('Settings', 'Updater', 'Menu' and 'Local update'), that would be a great news to install all update.zip found on the firmware finder database! All OTA links for the database giving a "update.zip" file should be installable with EMUI updater )! Please give it a try on your X1 Let me know!
On my side as manual update disapear from EMUI 4+, for X2 devices I'll have to use huawei firmware finder or huawei updater, or reinstall local updater in EMUI 4. I might give a try at local updater reinstallation, so that would be a ne way to use update.zip OTA found in firmawer finder database
Im going to give a try on huawei firmware finder or huawei updater, that I use on my X2...
Click to collapse
If you start from B103, that should work for sure. But please try first "put the whole update.zip in the dload folder + do a EMUIlocal update" first. Thanks!!
NB: The method 2 solution of this thread seems quite interesting to manually install ota update!

A brief remember of best 501L rom for now according to me :
The B013 rom from Huawei taiwan will be perfect for your 501L if you don't mind english as a main system language (apps'language can be yours with morelocal 2/morelangs). If you do mind, install chinese B011, but you'll have to manually install google play and google sync services, and root too uninstall chinses bloatware.
Actually this is not swithcing from Android 4.4.2 to Android 5 that will boost your device (anyway android 5 roms are buggy on the X1!!), but switching from EMUI 2 to 2.3 to EMUI 3!!
** Best OFFICIAL 501L ROM (android 4.4.2, EMUI 3.0, 400 DPI):
- B013 (Taiwan): http://consumer.huawei.com/tw/support/products/downloads/detail/mediapad-x1-tw.htm?id=60006
Warning, few supported languages: Chineses & english. But if you root your device, you can add your language, for applications at least, with "MoreLangs" and/or "Morelocale 2", available in google play store
** Some other recent OFFICIAL 501L ROMs (android 4.4.2, EMUI 2.3, 400 DPI):
- B103 (Europe):
http://consumer.huawei.com/ch-fr/support/products/downloads/detail/mediapad-x1-ch-fr.htm?id=33626
or
http://uploaded.net/file/z4hblokv
- B017 Malaysia (B017):
http://consumer.huawei.com/my/tablets/support/downloads/detail/mediapad-x1-my.htm?id=42841
--------
But, for a more advanced ROM (possibilities of custom mods, lollipop betas), you can install a chinese rom devoted to 503L, but fully functionnable on 501L, without restricting the extra 501L's 4G bands:
** Last OFFICIAL ROM released (B011 (china) = Android 4.4.2, EMUI 3.0, 400 DPI framework with per app DPI setting)):
https://1drv.ms/f/s!AoChLp8DMXIsrlbMUNz1JI4lk1Xc
(this pack is ready ton install on 501L with no modifications)
option: ** you can also flash the HRT_KangVIP custom mod on your B011 if you want:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/hua...x1-503l-501u-emui3-0-b011-hrtkangvip-t3058112
** Last BETA ROM released (B113 (china) = Android 5.1.1, EMUI 3.1, 400 DPI framework with per app DPI setting):
Start from a device installed with above B011.
Then update to (B011SP5): http://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-mediapad/general/rom-t3226547/post63329818#post63329818
Then update to B113: http://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-mediapad/general/rom-t3275540
<WARNING: those betas are known for non-working apps issues (youtube, facebook, instagram, various video apps...), non-working google services (sync, store, gapps), VPN issues, memory cards issues. To try to solve them, please visit https://plus.google.com/+jbmondoloni/posts/796orfk1AnJ , let me know if it did work for you >
** add Google apps and their sync to the chinese ROMs :
2 possible ways (at your choice):
1)use Huawei store that is already installed on your device:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0mLOgs6wTY
(Install at least the play store app, and the two sync apps for which you can see their icon below:

for the lollipop beta rom's google apps and sync: simply download and install the 3 .apk files attached to:

Edit- I just figured out the models listed in this thread are not the one I have.
I may be a little slow, but does this mean we can root and run Android on our Idol 4s? Also, I'm not sure what my model number is. It's an unlocked idol 4s in the United States.
Thanks!

I can't find the ROMs anywhere. I tried to go back to stock, but recovery won't recognize SDcard (other phones do recognize it). I tried to sideload the stock zip file, fail.
Sorry to bother you man, I'm out of my depth. Please, leave me some instructions how to go back to stock or how to install native LOS and where to download it from. Thanks!
