[Q] Sony Xperia Backup & Restore - Sony Xperia M4 Aqua

Hi.. I had used Sony Xperia L before and after a year it started to misbehave. Fed up of that, I backup my contacts, conversations, app data of candy crush saga, hike, instagram and some others on my memory card. Now I bought Sony Xperia M4 AQUA DUAL. I want all that backup data on memory card to be restored in my new Xperia.. But I cannot find a way to get it done. Please if anyone can help me out with this. It would be very helpful and grateful of you. Help me out ASAP.

Backup & Restore doesn't work? It should be able to restore your back up on every xperia phone. There are something should be pointed out:
1. Your contacts will be synced with your google account.
2. With conversations, I recommend an app SMS Backup & Restore
3. About app data, we can use titanium to back up and restore apps with condition the phone is rooted. But till now, rooting is still stuck, so just do a fresh installation then overwrite data with the old data may work, I'm not sure.

I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one who have this problem. I knew that Google backup was a pain but I think we have discovered that it is worse than expected!
I've done the same process as you on my HTC one : backup on google account. With my new Xperia Dual M4 (E2333 5.0) Google is not able to download all my previous backup! I've done it a lot of times but it's no works! (Tap&go is joke)
I've tried to do the process on Xperia Z3 compact (5.0.2) and it works well, idem for Galaxy Note 4. I thought the problem was about android version but I tried to restore backup on other device (by reseting all settings) BQ Aquaris E5 and it’s not work neither… I think its a random process, sometimes it works, sometimes no…I don’t know what to think about this. Maybe the next version 5.0.2 on M4 Aqua will solve this but I’m not sure.
It’s a shame that Google can’t provide a native tool backup that works orrectly and that allow you to switch between Android devices easily.Android backup and restore is really a martydorm. Apple iOS is better: all things work!
Maybe you should try CM Backup. it backup and restore main settings (sms, call, agenda etc.) but for your apps, you’ll have to download them manually from PlayStore. Or with Xperia Transfer...

[Q] - Recommendation for a Backup & Restore App

Having always rooted my phones I never had an issue backing up apps and data via Titanium backup but am now looking for a solution to back up apps and their data on my non-rooted Z2.
Having just flashed the latest Z2 firmware via Flashtool which wipes the phone, I've restored backups I had made with Sonys Back Up and Restore app only to find it didn't backup all it said it did, so had a number of apps and data missing.
Can anyone recommend a solution to this

I was in the same boat as yourself, Ive found a good one is HELIUM, plus helium will state what apps don't have a backup option coded into them so unlike sonys own app u wont be annoyed when some apps do/don't backup Also Helium allows cloud backups as well as internal and external sd card backups
Im currently using helium for apps and Mybackup pro for my text message backups as I found heliums message backups were weirdly in the opposite date order to normal use( instead of latest being at bottom of list it was at top)
Thanks mate, will give Helium a try

Just confiming, does Hellium doesnt back up the app data like TB?
I know ive read somewhere there is an app by chainfire for app and data backup for non rooted but at first glance it seem a bit long winded so never bothered with it.
I used easy backup which restored my apps, sms, mms, call log etc all no probs but yeah problem was no data backed up so had to set them all up like email, settings etc all over again.
I understand Unlocking and Rooting an Xperia is a tough task. But the stock ROM is good enough.
A good article here. It helped me and it may help you too buddy.

well your not gonna get the same level of backup due to lack of root, but for me it saved things like game progression(i.e angry birds) but didn't save things like custom widget sets in HD widgets app. But not the end of the world.
Ive started looking at my backups a bit more in detail and asking do I really need a backup of some apps, as some are just install-login to app and use no custom data to speak of to really backup. Or other apps like XDA app and game progression which have custom settings and progression Id like to save.

bro, Last time I used Helium is when it was called Carbon, I tried it with Xperia S and it didn't worked at all, after that I saw this in it's description in Play Store
Note: Some Sony devices have issues with Helium. This includes the Xperia S and Xperia Z. Sony has *disabled* backup on these devices completely.

I lost hope after that, so does it work now on Z2 ?
I'm still not in a hurry to have Z2 as there's still no way to root without unlocking the bootloader, and I will not unlock the bootloader without backing up the TA partition first ( which requires root )... so I've been looking for a way to copy some of my app's data from my old phone to Z2, I used to use Titanium Backup always but you know, no root = no TB...
so can you confirm please that you used Helium to backup AND restore app's data to the Z2 ? or you're just guessing from a non-xperia experience ?

I used helium to backup my apps on my s3 then install them on my z2, ive also backedup up my current apps on my z2 since, but like ive already said helium cant backup certain apps as the app developer hasn't allowed backup function. Helium did the job for me for my game progression and a few apps where I wanted current setup saved.

[Q] Upgrade from Z1 to Z2 by backup won't work. Any ideas? Options

Hello my friends, I recently got a z2, an upgrade from my old z1 (which got stuck in safe mode and could not be fixed). When I had my old Z1 I did the general backup stuff for my photos but it left some holes. As an extra precaution I used the Sony backup and restore app (the own in the tools section). It worked, I saved it to my sd card, restored to factory settings, then restored from my backup. It worked great but it was still in safe mode, hence the new phone
The problem is now I get this message:
Cannot restore
____________
Selected backup records cannot be used due to incompatible software versions. Please select a more recent backup.
It's fairly obvious what the problem is but what isn't so obvious is how to fix it.
Thanks a lot,
Callum
P.S. Wish I'd used titanium back up. I need to root and use cyanegmod again

you cant restore a backup cross devices aka Z1-->Z2
im not realy sure what you can do exept using file explorers to pull info off your Z1 as much as
if any ideas come up ill post here or perhaps someone can enlighten me or you!
Seems a bit strange, can't understand it. It's not that different so why I can't restore from that is a mystery to me. Luckily I backed up my photos before so all I have to do is redownload my apps by looking through on the Google play store my apps section and redownload my Spotify library. It's a pain but I'll live.
Thanks alot, especially for that speedy reply

it may be simular but because it would be a bit pointless making your restore manager determine what can and cant be restored
it would take too long so sony just leaves it out like most other brands,i think there is a method of pulling apart backups but i dont know of it too well, try googling perhaps
There is nothing exactly wrong mate, I heard sometime that you can't even restore from a different firmware to a newer one or vice versa. Didn't try tho.. But yh

[Q] Backup data before root

Hey guys,
I've bought a new xperia z2 and Updated it to 4.4.4 but then I realized that root is only possible with a downgrade. So my question is:
Can I backup my data **without** root, downgrsde, root the phone, then go back up to 4.4.4 without a data loss? (Or at least a method with small data loss)
What 'data' do you want to backup? Apps like sms backup+ will backup you messages and call log. Sony has an app that can backup apps and data. Also titanium backup may be able to backup user apps.
Helium is one app that can backup all the data, sony backup sometime misses some app data, but will backup the apps themselves, not much useful in cases where the app is 50MB and then downloads 500MB of data after opening(like some games), helium takes care of that. just take the backup before downgrading, move it to your card or PC, downgrade, root, flash the latest recovery and ROM of your choice, then move the backup to your phone, (doesnt matter internal or external location, helium can select both for restore), and restore, et voila, you have your data. personally checked on games like real racing, poweramp player, messages(but to be sure better use SMS backup+ as suggested by our brother above), and even different browsers. but it does not work on system apps like youtube or chrome. no idea why.
Im just a bit nervous about rooting it as ive read online that Sony have put something in there Xperia models that you have to de-activate (something on there website) But if you do that then your phones warranty is completely void.
Id do it if I knew 100% how to do it and if it was 100% safe, Do you know of any guides for dummies for the 23.0.1.A.0.167 build number? Thanks.

just backup your original firmware before root. if you root your phone you will void warranty but if you re-flash your backed up original firmware then warranty will be back

Please Help! I think I just broke my phone after using Titanium Backup! :(

Hello everyone, first of all I should point out that I am not only a newbie but also not very tech savvy!...
So, I have an Xperia Z2! (D6503) and I had it for 2 years but until a week ago, I had no problems at all with it, I was very happy with it.
But then, my battery started to drain extremely fast, in fact, with very very low usage, it would drain entirely within 5-8 hours.
So a friend recommended that I root my device so I can get rid of bloatware and other apps that might be doing the damage.
So doing some little research, I heard of Kingroot which I downloaded from this very website.
And everything was great, I used kingroot to stop over 258 autostart apps that I had!!! (and I had no idea they were doing that).
Then afterwards, from the same video tutorial that I used to install the kingroot app, it recommended that I install TITANIUM BACKUP!
Which I proceeded to install. And then I followed the video instructions, USB debugging was already turned on from installing Kingroot, so I went to backup/restore tab...
then as recommended in the video, I chose "Backup all user apps + system data". After the backup process, which took about 20-25 minutes...
and then when it was done, mostly everything was gone....
my wall paper was gone...everything was in dark, some of the applications were gone...all of my contacts, videos, photos, etc...mostly everything was gone...
When I opened some of the few apps that remained, it asked me to install it (the app)...
So I immediately panicked ....I went back to the app and chose the "restore option" and the first time I chose the "Restore missing apps plus all system data"
it then asked me to install one by one...every app and system data...But it still did not work...
So after it took me over 3 hours of doing that...I did all the other options (restore missing apps with data, restore all apps with data, and restore all system data) one by one...(doing app by app...system data by system data) and I should also mention that while doing this "installations" lots and lots of apps and system data failed to install...WHY? I have no idea obviously...apps and system data such as : WFD Service, Warrantytime Service, VPN Dialogs, USB Connectivity, Overheat Control, etc...etc...etc... over 100 of these things failed to install (which I have no idea what they are but if someone feels it would help if I mentioned them all...I will list them all)
I then proceeded to try the restore option using the Sony PC companion software...but after it did the "restore" and it asked me to restart the phone...
Everything was the same....all the same missing apps, video, etc...
So I spent all day doing this...and still I can't figure out how to recover my stuff ...Please if someone knows what can I do to fix it...please let me know... I can't afford to buy another phone...but most importantly...I want my stuff back like photos etc... :'/
Thank you and I am sorry for making this so long....
OK, a few steps.
First, can you connect your phone to your pc in data mode to browse your sd-card? To recover your photos. Normally, they are located in a subfolder of DCIM on intern SD-card. (Also you may consider to back up your photos in the future or use a cloud service like Google Foto or Mega to backup them. Phones get lost or sometimes stolen too...)
Second thing is just a bit of information: the free version of titanium backup always askes you for every app you restore, this is normal. You have to pay 5$ or so to get the pro app which doesn't ask for every app.
When you succeed in restoring / backing up your photos and stuff (the backups from titanium-backup!!) you may just want to install a new rom / ftf firmware.
This can easily wipe your complete phone, so be sure to have everything backed up to your pc/cloud.
Search in the forum for the newest stock ftf (.264) and install it via flash tool. You will then have a stock Z2 with actual firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2759934
There are also pre-rooted stock firmwares available.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/general/ftf-cutomized-23-1-0-726-cda-1281-9809-t3082166
If you want to install a custom rom, you definitely want to try stock -based Roms first, so you don't have to play with your bootloader /DRM-keys. Some examples are SLiM-Rom, eXistenz Roms, Purex, Google-Style, Moonwalker Epidemic, Mr. SL rom ... (Be aware that slim-rom, contrary to SLiM-rom, is NOT stuck-based, it will soft brick your phone if you install it with bootloader locked.)
The only thing you then want to restore via titanium backup is probably your SMS and phone call history, they are in a seperate color like green.
For future use, there are apps like "sms backup and restore" which are less problematic than titanium backup in my opinion.
Titanium has some goodies like the possibility to create update.zip files and encryption of backups, but this is more like a pro feature, you sound like you don't really need titanium backup.
