Bootanimation.zip support for Samsung Devices - Install all your favourite BootAnim! - Galaxy Note 4 Themes and Apps

IV. BOOTANIMATION.ZIP INSTALLATION GUIDE

#_____________________________#
I. Introduction
As you know Samsung Stock Roms uses a special .qmg for the bootanimation but the procedure that converts all the bootanimation.zip to .qmg ones doesn't give good results getting a low quality bootanimation.
Android uses a binary called bootanimation to run the bootanimations, and it is situated inside the system/bin folder, Samsung has modified this binary in order to get it working with .qmg files.
-Why don't we restore the native bootanimation.zip support?
II. Requirements
This mod has been tested on many samsung devicesl!
These are all the requirements required to add the spport for the Native Android Bootanimations:
Samsung device
Rooted Smartphone
Recovery Installed (TWRP or CWM)
II. Installation guide (THROUGH RECOVERY)
The installation procedure is really easy because i've made a simple zip that makes everything accessible!
Perfrom the following steps:
Download the proper zip according to your android version from the second post
Reboot your smartphone to the recovery and install the downloaded zip
Now you have the Native Android bootanimation.zip support
Now, once you reboot your smartphone, you will see the stock Android Bootanimation.
Did you get a softbrick?
-My zip automatically creates a zip that allows to restore the previous bootanimation binary. Reboot to recovery and install the StockBootanimationRestorer.zip inside the /vr-theme folder and report your device, please
III. Bootanimation.zip installation guide
Now as you have the bootanimation.zip support you have to look for a bootanimation style repository, and inside XDA i've found this useful thread:
[BootAnimation & Shutdownanimation] MASSIVE G3 Collection <<Over 66+>> 10/9/14 -> (Thanks @KachowPow)
Easy procedure to install bootanimations.zip :
Download the style you like from the thread posted above or alternative sources
Download the Flashable_Bootanimation.zip schema and extract it
Open the /system/media folder and put the bootanimation.zip that you have downloaded (Do not extract the animation.zip)
Compress all the folders (META-INF & /system) in zip without any compression or other options
Copy the compressed zip inside your phone memory and begin with the installation procedure via Recovery
Reboot and ENJOY!

On your Note 4 by default you have the bootanimation with Fireworks, and if you wanna install custom bootanimations you have to create them (in .qmg) losing a lot of quality. With this guide now you can install all the bootanimations you want.
Follow the guide and then choose the bootanimation you like from here Bootanimations 1440 x 2560 repository by KachowPow @ XDA

THREAD UPDATED - ALMOST ALL SAMSUNG DEVICES SUPPORT AND ANDROID OS
Well, lately users do not read long threads! :')
Anyway i made an update on the topic adding the support for almost all samsung devices and android os.
Lemme know your device model if it has worked or not!

After flashing the zip for KitKat on my g355h, the splash screen was shown up (as always) but it continued up until the home screen.....no boot animation. Also there is a pre-installed bootanimation.zip in /system/media/here, that came with the stock firmware......

Hey, does this support Galaxy J5? Also, nice work dude, i really appreciate your work.
EDIT:
It works for Galaxy J5. just installed a cyanogenmod bootanimation, works fine. Thanks Jertlok for this amazing mod!

Thanks a lot. It works nice. But when I create an boot animation it would not work. But all downloaded zip boot animation works fine on my Samsung Galaxy core Prime g360h. Can You explain where I am doing error during creating a zip boot animation. Here the attached file

Downloaded bootanimation.zip, placed it into media, made a zip, copied it over to my phone and if i wanna flash it say, that it can not find update binary in the meta inf folder; i looked it up in the folder and it was there, seemed to be broken, and before all this i installed the mm native bootanimation supprt(per given zip)
any suggestions?

when i tried it with the MM flasshable zip(for example), it worked
---------- Post added at 06:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:35 PM ----------
i got it work by replacing the files in system/media, its okay
secondly, is there a way to change the boot splash screen and/or the shutdownanimation??
probably this only works on aosp roms...

I have a Note 3 with a Note 7 port, so I flashed the MM zip.
Does not work unfortunately, stays in the initial Samsung Galaxy Note 3 screen and jumps straight to lock screen (it skips boot animation entirely)
I dunno if I should blame this on the bootanimation itself or that I am using a custom ROM
Any suggestions?

Does this work on stock firmware with root and custom recovery?

Works perfectly on Note3neo (sm-n7505), is there any way to also change the shutdown animation ?

A fruit cake is the finish product, a self contain rom, already ready for installation, already inside an update.zip.
So really what does it do?
It allows a bootloader unlocked user to create a full copy of their boot and system partition. All of it, including mods and changes done to either one of those partitions.
Can this be use for easier rom development?
Yes! Beyond just its normal capabilities! After installing the resources you can modify the script and add things to it in *sdcard* /fcm/workdir! Once you are done adding and changing things in there, press "Create ROM".

I will ask/ check out the main OP but thought i would ask here also. Can it be updated to work with CM7? It said it was an unsupported device.
I was able to get it to do its thing with changing my build.prop but i havent tested out the update.zip it created yet to see if would ACTUALLY work with cm7. If it does work maybe the dev can make a LITTLE change to recognize the galaxys2att in the buildprop also.

this is my flagship app, so im putting lots of effort to get it working 100%, keep an eye out for FCM Extender, it will be a paid app, but will allow for full control of the script. allowing you to further mod, and change the installaiton script. so things like scripts and apps can be installed on the fly.
Still not able to make it work UNLESS I am doing something wrong here. It creates the update.zip that is about 203.63k and when i flash it i get error 6.
On another note if possible is to maybe have it so there is three steps, 1 to load the settings needed, 2 to name it whatever we want to, 3 to create it. I am asking that so when/if you already have a update.zip file on your sdcard you dont get mixed up. I will definetely be following your work as i think it has great potential. Thanks again

you need to get a logcat of the app, and submit it to the bugs section, that way we can work on it together, the update s.zip should be way bigger than 203.63k, it seems to me the program is not creating the imgs neccesarry for the update zip

[RANDOM BOOT ANIMATION] [1080P] Lots of Boot Animation Downloads & ROM TOOLBOX

This thread will show you how to do a couple things.
a) Install a custom boot animation.
b) Randomize your boot animation so each time you reboot, you get a different boot animation (only available with pro version of the app I use).
I'll be updating the thread every few days with new animations until I get a pretty good library. If I'm really super motivated, I might accept boot animation requests. Otherwise, all you need is the boot animation factory linked at the bottom of this thread.
REQUIREMENTS:
-You need to be rooted.
-You need an unlocked bootloader (only if AT&T or Verizon).
-You need a kernel that supports custom boot animation (Faux, Ktoonsez, any AOSP kernel - I'm currently using SlimBean 5.6).
-You *might need to have an AOSP ROM. I have not tried stock rooted TouchWiz yet.
Okay, here's how you do custom boot animations!!!
1) Install ROM Toolbox Lite (consider upgrading to the pro version).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wyLDEsImNvbS5qcnVtbXkubGliZXJ0eS50b29sYm94Il0.
*Note, there are other ways to install boot animations, but those methods are not supported in this thread.
2) Copy the boot animation file(s) to your internal or external SD card. It doesn't matter which. Nor does it matter what folder you put them into.
3) Open ROM Toolbox Lite:
4) Close out of the disclaimer:
5) From the main menu, just swipe your finger to scroll to the right:
6) Now you're at the Interface tab. Click on Boot Animations:
7) You can click on "later" to not upgrade. But I do recommend upgrading. This is a VERY cool app:
8) Click "OK" to the disclaimer:
9) From the "Server" tab, you can download boot animations. But you don't want to, because none of them are 1080x1920 and will look "small" on your screen:
10) Instead, swipe to the right so you an view the "Randomize" tab. Read the info if you like:
11) Now swipe to the left to the "Local" tab. And navigate to the folder where you stored your boot animations that you have downloaded from this thread:
INSTALLING A SINGLE BOOT ANIMATION FROM THE FREE VERSION OF ROM TOOLBOX:
1) Single-click on any boot animation you see in this folder:
2) Click on "Install".
3) Reboot phone and on the first (OR SECOND) reboot, you should see your boot animation and it should fill the 1080x1920 screen.
INSTALLING RANDOM BOOT ANIMATIONS IF YOU UPGRADED TO THE PRO VERSION OF ROM TOOLBOX:
1) At the "Randomize" tab, move the sider to the "On" position (top right of screen):
2) Swipe left to the "Local" tab:
3) Single-click a boot animation and select the "Add to randomizer" option (repeat for each boot animation you want):
4) If you're on the free version of ROM Toolbox, you'll be prompted to upgrade. Select either "Unlock boot randomizer" or "ROM Toolbox Pro". The Pro version is more expensive, but it unlocks every option the app has. And there are lots of cool options. Choice is up to you:
5) Since I already paid for the pro version, I installed that:
6) Now click on "open":
7) Go through the steps again and grant Root Permissions when prompted (your Superuser request may be different looking than mine):
8) Ignore the disclaimer:
9) When you finish adding boot animations to the randomizer, your "Randomize" tab will look similar to this. Now you're ready to reboot over and over and over and enjoy all your new boot animations!
Thank you to JaeKar99 for creating or sourcing all the boot animations that I modified to work in 1080x1920 resolution for our Galaxy S4 phones.

Finally found the solution in a thread by anbech, go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1897969
Use the CWM_CustomBootanimation_421_Enable.zip. It's for the S3, but works fine on the S4.
Just because the kernel supports it doesn't mean the system does. This flashes the file "bootanimation" to the /system/bin folder. That file is already there, so I made a copy of the existing one before overwriting it with this (just in case).
I'm not using ROM Toolbox, I just copy my animation (bootanimation.zip) to the /system/media folder since I don't change it often, but it should work.
The link above also has a good tutorial on making boot animations.
By the way, I'm using agat's kernel.

I am on Goldeneye, followed your instructions, and it does not work. I still have the SAMSUNG boot animation. Is it not possible to manually replace the image files or make flash files out of there? Just wondering cause I would like a new animation but it is not working for me .
Edit: I believe this is cause silly Samsung uses QMG, which is proprietary, for their boot animations so unless we can figure a better way to create full HD boot animations without have to use Samsung Theme Designer I guess those using stock based wont have any others. If anyone find a successful alternative let me know. I read up on one for the Note 2 but it didnt work on my phone.

holly crap...already got system dump for Tab S? how did you get that?:good:
First of all, thank you for this little mod. It's a pretty one ;]
Second: I use Note 12.2, I know it's 10.1 thread, however i followed the link in 12.2's topic, also i think this might be important for other 2014 Note's users as well, as the devices hardware is almost equal. See below for details.
So... Flashable zip DOES NOT work out-of-the-box on my SM-P905 (Note Pro 12.2 LTE / Qualcomm cpu based) running stock (but: deodexed, rooted, heavily debloated...) 4.4.2 firmware.
Boot animation does not show up at all, there is only Tab S booting sound in background, but tablet keeps displaying bootloader screen all the time, until Android is booted (it does not cause bootloop, fortunately).
After running bootanimation binary thru terminal the animation does not show, too (and it showed up on a genuine config!), and the shell outputs some warnings about unoptimized libraries to stderr.
In my opinion, there might be some difference between exynos/mali and qualcomm/adreno libraries/binaries (there are A LOT of differences related to other system components and even system structure itself...), and the ones provided within a zip do not comply with qualcomm hardware/other system components, resulting in lack of graphics. I bet it's a library file, as it has different size (it is... 4 bytes smaller on stock rom), although I didn't compare the binaries size... Please note that it is possible that the issue MAY apply to P605 users too, as well as other LTE/qcom tabs (note thet this is only a guess, based on my own experiences...). It would be a good idea to provide some backup/restore solution or at least tutorial, until further tests on LTE devices are made; fortunately, I have backed up all the essential files, ie. media components, lib and binaries before flashing your zip, but if someone didn't, he may be forced to flash system image/restore whole system nand backup to revive the bootanim back to life...
And what's important, the fix for the lack of display is more than simple. I have restored /system/lib and /system/bin stuff back to my stock ones, leaving only provided Tab S stuff in /system/media dir. After rebooting... voila! It works!
Quick summary: at least on Note 12.2 LTE, swapping /system/media files only is enough to make Tab S bootanim work. Moreover, swapping /system/bin and lib files breaks the bootanimation visual output.
I have a question, also. I wonder if there are any differences in Tab S charging screen (the one that shows up when device is connected to charger but powered off) and if so, are you able to provide necessary files (AFAIR the charging "animation" is triggered by playlpm binary + some other /system/media files, but not sure here, too).
Thank you for your patience.

Hi
I dont have custom recovery for flashing. Do i just copy and paste the 3 system/media files (after backing up original files) and then reboot? If not, could you please post the necessary system files for copy and pasting? I am using P605 LTE.
Thanks

At least on P905 (the same hardware as P605), overwriting /system/media files with the ones manually extracted from the (flashable) zip file is absolutely working fine and the old bootanim will be replaced by a new one. Just don't forget to check if the file permissions weren't messed up during the operation (644 are a good ones...).
Offtopic: Ofc you shall perform changes to system, so nand backup is still recommended. If you do not want to keep custom recovery during everyday use for any reason, but you have the possibility of flashing it when needeed, at least temporarily for a time needed to restore backup, you may want to check out Onandroid Backup solution (look for it @ xda/GPlay), which lets you creating both cwm and twrp compatibile nand backups directly from Android booted up and running.
Thanks!

It works. Thanks.
Sent from my SM-P605 using xda app-developers app
It works, best way is to extract the zip then paste the parts under system--> media---> and overwrite then change permissions and you are good to go. I did it for note 12.2

[ROM][5.1.1][SM-G360T1] SlimPickins stock, rooted, de-(-bloated,-odexed,-knoxed),etc.

So basically I wanted something better than stock for this particular device and there wasn't anything yet (as of me posting this), so I decided that I had two options, either be patient and wait for something to come out or take the road less travelled and cram a bunch of information into my brain off the interwebs until I could produce something. About one week later, here we are now with a working semi custom rom. I dunno if you could tell but I was pretty proud of myself, lol. The reason I've said all that is so that you realize that I am not a professional developer, in fact quite the opposite, I consider myself very much of an amateur (First Rom). I'm hoping that this goes off without a hitch for most of you however if you do have issues don't be afraid to ask, I'll do my best to try and help you figure out what's going on. Plus who knows, maybe just by posting, somebody else more knowledgeable than I will see your issue and take an interest. Allrighty then, enough of my yammering, On to the good stuff!!
Obviously if you've gotten this far you should realize your warranty is void and I am not to be held accountable for anything that should happen to your phone during this process. Unless of course, if it's totally awesome, then I wouldn't mind a little credit

Root

This rom is awesome guys! Been running it on my device and it's definitely much lighter, faster and gives you extra space for a bunch more apps and for a healthier CPU and ram. I recommend giving it a try. Be sure to back up your stuff first in TWRP! I also did a wipe of the stock rom data/dalvik/cache in TWRP first myself before flashing this rom for a much cleaner install, but you don't have to. You can just backup your stuff and flash.
Anyhow, I hope you give it a try and I also hope you'll give @Koognod some thanks/donations/etc for being the first to actually put in all the research and hard work required to give us a better rom! Thank you Koognod for getting the ball rolling for rom development on the SM-G360T1!!!

Nice job on this @Koognod! I'm sure this will bring more developers to our device!

I see that mega is having issues atm, Give me a little bit to upload then I'll post another link.
@chiwas198212 The new link is up
Whoever installs from the alternate link next if you could do me a favor and let me know if I've uploaded the proper version. Just looking for the Marshmallow Boot animation in the beginning. Thanx.
Looks like this (Just in case you were unaware):
And mega's back up so both links should be working now.
So It's been a couple days and I know I've got at least a hundred downloads. Don't see too many complaints, I think it's safe to assume it's pretty stable?? Everything working alright for everyone?

Seems like the tmobile variants don't get much love these days (specifically when it comes to OS roms.)

We're trying to get more roms made for the Core Prime. Didn't you used to have one? None of the Galaxy devices though will ever be as popular as the S5, S6, S6 Edge, etc., so what it usually comes down to is you either have to start a development movement online and build some interest there or you can always try and make your own. That's what @Koognod did for this one. If you'd like more info on that by the way, then you can check out this guide here.

Here too is an example of how we're trying to get Cyanogenmod for our device.

Remove AudioFX and add Viper4Android in Sultan's ROM

In Sultan's ROM or any other Cyanogenmod 13 based ROMs, by default AudioFx is installed. Is it possible to to remove it and make Viper4Android as the default application?
I am using XOSP ROM. It has Viper4Android. It used to be a very stable ROM. I want to move to Sultan' ROM.
So can anybody provide me the steps? I also need the download link for Viper4Android application. Has anybody ever tried before?
I'm using Sultan's ROM and I have Viper4Android working flawlessly using the script in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/viper4android-universal-fix-cm13-t3337289
i'm on latest Sultan's rom and use Viper, all fine. you have to:
1) install BusyBox (grab stericson's installer from playstore or flash this
2) flash "MusicFX Installer and AudioFX Remover.zip" from here it's the last attached file on OP
3) flash ViperAudio zip, choose the version you prefer from previous link. i personally use clean Viper|Audio 6.1, there's a flashable zip attached here.
some people say SELinux has to be set on "Permissive" but i have it on stock "Enforcing" mode and Viper works fine. Maybe it's needed just for first install, don't remember exactly but make your tests and see what one works better for you.

there's difference, you can hear it actually works but the speaker itself isn't nothing impressive so a simple DSP won't do miracles

No issues, however there's some work around. Irs should be loaded under 0/legacy/ViPER/Kernel and this particular folder shows up when I browse through ES xplorer, while on Legacy turn ON show hidden folder then tap on legacy to see this folder.
EDIT: Seriously, I don't get this **** folder very quickly, I have to try atleast ten times with above trick to access this. Later I created a shortcut folder on the home page.
EDIT 2: Somewhere on the web saw this route for that folder /data/media/legacy/ViPER4Android/Profile. I don't have device right now to check, you can check this path as well.

Is it the only folder showing under legacy? For me when I go to that path under legacy only viper folder is available, you might need to enable show hidden folder optiom to see it.
