Nexus 6 Selfie Recommendations - Nexus 6 Accessories

I'm having trouble finding a reliable selfie stick. Any recommendations?

Hand the selfie stick to someone else and ask them to beat you unconscious with it?
Never used one, but since you had no replies, I figured I'd have a little fun. Best of luck finding something that works for you. Even though I hate the things.

I still can't believe these are a thing

I agree. I understand the occasional photo is cool, but do people really think that "friends" on social media really care seeing dozens/hundreds of photos of you (not you kronikings) smiling?

no, but its nice having a picture of yourself in a certain situation, for you to look at, as you get older, for memories of your life. that said, a selfie stick is still out of the question for me. generally, ill take a selfie using the back cam, not front, using the volume keys to shoot.

Don't take a selfie? Maybe it's just me but I cannot stand when people use a 'selfie stick' or constantly take them.
Now onto your question I would check Amazon and read the reviews to see what people say. This one has good reviews across the board:

I bought this one for a vacation to Yellowstone National Park and its very high quality! Probably the strongest selfie stick on the market!

i bought one before branded gorilla gear, and it seems has pretty good build quality.

It's not cool when anyone uses one! The only thing that screams DORK! Louder than a selfie stick is a selfie stick with a giant phablet like the Nexus 6 on the end!

When I was in Aruba back in June, there was a guy from Austria traveling by himself because his wife died 2 or 3 years earlier. He had a selfie stick and was taking photos because he was traveling alone. I don't see a problem with it in certain situations.

[Q] Any creative thoughts for the 3D camera?

Just wondering if anyone out there has any new ideas for using the dual cameras, outside of taking interesting pictures?
I was just thinking about what some of the devs are doing with NFC tags and wondered if there were any creative uses that we could come up with.
Would there be any benefit from these cameras in capturing/reading hologram images/data? I know, QR codes seem to work well, but just brainstorming a bit.
I was thinking it would be cool to see a creative way to stitch photos from the two cameras together to make a Panorama.

but they will both be pointing at the same subject from very slightly different angles
They could be used as hdr, one camera for low light and one for bright light and then merge them

Wouldn't look very good because the cameras see 2 different perspectives, so the 2 images wouldn't match very well, especially with close-ups.
not exactly a creative way to use the two cameras, but as an avid sportsman. I am looking forward to using it mainly for catch and kill pictures as well as wake boarding and sking. Now when the fish id held facing the camera it's REALLY going to be an awesome shot. Get a good photo of my buddies jumping a wake. HELL YEAH!!!! too bad no one else I know is going to own a 3D phone. Oh well.

[Q] Can the camera performance be improved with software changes?

So I am really loving this phone but unfortunately the camera has disappointed me more than once. After using the iP4s for awhile I realized that I don't like iOS or the iPhone much at all, what I do love is the camera. Now all I want is an Android device with an awesome camera and I thought the EVOLTE would be it. So, before I return the phone and await the SGS3 I want to see if software upgrades can improve the camera performance.
Thanks in advance!

Exactly what type of performance are you looking to get?
As for myself, I've gotten some incredible shots with this camera.
Wow, you guys are loads of help. Its a simple question. I know the camera uses good hardware but the performance still lacks. You guys think what you want but when I'm trying to capture pics of my newborn and my eco produces slightly fuzzy pics with poor color representation while the pics on my wife's iPhone look better then I'm inclined to want better performance. FWIW the EVO outperforms the iPhone in daylight but infamy other settings it comes in 2nd place.

As good as the iP4s. I have a dslr but when out and about I want a camera that is close to as good as my dedicated point and shoot. Maybe my phone is defective, I'll take it in tomorrow to compare to a floor model.

What settings are you using on the camera? Auto, hdr, portrait, close up, etc? ISO, white balance?
The only thing I've noticed is slight ghosting with hdr, but that's been a known issue for quite awhile now.
And they probably weren't very helpfully since tapatalk is showing you posting from a nexus s.

I've got a canon powershot and my evolte takes very comparable pictures. I haven't tried in low light conditions, but otherwise I'd be hard pressed to tell the difference.
Quite possibly could be a defect with the camera itself.

Yeah, I've tried adjusting pretty much everything. Low light helps some but even then my phones struggles to catch a quality pic when my daughter is moving around. If you haven't yet realized, my newborn is the reason why the camera has become so important.
I'm posting front Nexus because the EVO is deactivated because I was considering returning and doesn't want to take a chance of something happening to it. Also my iP4s has water damage.

When you open up with the camera sucks and rave about a phone that most of us cant stand (especially after what apple pulled with our current phone) and then mention another phone that for the love kittens I have no idea why people like them (samsung phones, sorry I just can't get past the way they feel in the hand) and expect people to not look at your "new thread" and think....TROLL ALERT. Especially sense we already have a thread about the camera picture quality.

The OP also presented an intriguing question. Since there is some aggressive post capture image processing, would we benefit from an alteration on the software level? You guys never needed to jump on his back. This is constructive criticism and inquiring, not fanboi-ing.
If our devs found a way to edit the imaging chip software, I would assume so, yes. They may be able to tone it down a little bit so things aren't over-sharpened, which I've noticed can be true in some cases. However, if you play around with the camera settings a little more, you may be able to find some optimum values. I dropped my ISO (a setting that affects grain) to 400 instead of auto and reduced saturation by 1 to help with pink skin tones. It looks noticeably better and it already looked really nice from the get go for me. I haven't played with the sharpness yet though.

To answer the question in the op, yes, software upgrades can increase camera performance.

I have an iPhones 4s that is about to sell on eBay. I had a galaxy nexus and returned for this phone. The camera, among other things, played a big role in that decision.
The iPhone 4s takes great pictures....that an everyday person can take no problem. But the stock interface decides for you, often giving good pictures, but limiting your ability to adjust the capture.
At first the my evo was not impressing me...because I was using it like the iPhone. Once you realize the focus works differently, you can get comparable pictures. Once you realize how powerful the numerous adjustments are on the evo's camera...you can get outstanding pictures that blow away the iPhone 4s. I've directly compared with the photographery of a fiancee.
The evo allows the user to manipulate the capture...and as thus also allows the user to ruin the capture. The iPhone doesn't, but is more limited. Honestly it is all back to ios vs android.
Sent from my EVO using XDA
Also...I know its a result of the fast capture feature, but I wish you could set it to focus when you push the capture button. This would be nice for when you want one perfect shot and not to take advantage of the fast capture feature.

Indeed.
I have been using android since the HTC Hero. I strayed for a while with the iphone 4s...but eventually could not stand it anymore. Honestly...it was this remarkable device that final sold me back. It blows the iphone 4s away in every area.
I am very open to change, and I will use what is best. In my opinion, ICS combined with the hardware on this device is tops. I'm not a fanboy by any means...I still love and perfer the new ipad and my macbook...but that could change with the next generation of devices.
There is one BIG thing I like about apple products. Due to the market hype...there sure do sell for a lot more on ebay than they should!

To the serious photographers. ?.

I am officially a Samsung fanboy, having learned the ropes on my Motorolas, and struggle through elevation with my HTCs, I have hit my stride here with Samsung. I wanted to pose some questions on the Galaxy NX.
How does it look as a device to a fellow Samsung user(s), who also has expirence with cameras and a general knowledge of camera hardware?
At what price point does it become absurd for a serious photographer to consider this device?
Would you reccomend this as a device to a person, not unlike myself, who is thinking of purchasing a camera for the first time because of the attractive device that is the Galaxy NX?
Where does the NX fall short when compared to, in your judgement, other comparable cameras on the market?
Is the Android OS, being originally intended for cameras, as attractive as it seems to be on this device, or am I puttting too much stock in my favorite mobile OS?
Concerns about your typical device like battery life and miscellaneous hardware are important to the point where it will impact the camera function, but not really something I am trying to discuss. I am really looking a conversation on the functionality of the NX as a camera for a 1st time buyer.

This camera poses quite a few nice options, for one you'll be able to edit everything on the camera and you'll have free range to all the camera apps like FV-5, so you'll always be able to do whatever you want. You can edit your photos on the camera with something like the Photo Mate app that includes a fully fledged Raw converter that offers similar levels of control to what you're used to from Adobe ACR or other desktop Raw converters ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wsMSwxLDEsImNvbS50c2dhbWVzLnBpY3R1cmVpbmZvIl0.).
The camera has pretty damned good specs and seems like it would be a very very nice camera, however if you are wanting a damned good camera that will introduce you to the world of amazing photography you should go with something else. There is too much unknown about this camera, the price is rumored to be around €1000 or $1300 but no one knows for sure at the current moment, it has outstanding potential but at this point these cameras are more toys, to me at least, than a real camera. Before you blow an insane amount of money, and yes I absolutely love what Samsung is doing with these cameras because it opens up so many more possibilities, you should really get a regular DSLR and use it for a while until Samsung gets all the bugs ironed out of these cameras. I won't even consider buying one until next year at the very earliest because I think they have a long way to go before they're as fully functional as most other DSLR cameras. I have been thinking about buying a original Galaxy camera and just playing around with it but honestly it is still too rich for my blood.
If you are wanting to get a good DSLR that has amazing functionality, takes amazing pictures, has a whole bus load of additional lenses and features, and much more I would recommend that you look into something a bit less expensive.
I have personally been using the Olympus E-620 since it was released and still have no want to upgrade to a newer DSLR just because this one has everything I want and need and then some. It's an excellent camera at an insane price because it was released in '09. That is what you need though if you've never dealt with these cameras before, something for a good price that is still competitive with the newer DSLRs that are being released. The price on Amazon right now is only $349 for a used one with the 14-42 mm lens and $450 for a used one with the 14-42 mm and 40-150 mm lenses. You can most likely find them on eBay for cheaper as well.

That's a great gem of information you dropped on me, thanks. Like I said I am not familiar with DSLR or Mirror less cameras at all, so all contribution is appreciated. I have been spending a lot of time watching YouTube videos on where to start as a fledging photographer, and the idea of starting with a cheaper DSLR was the idea a lot of you tubers were recommending.
Also, there was an overwhelming number of people who had the idea to get either a Cannon or Nikon due to the longevity of the 2 platforms, and the availability of accessories. I'm glad to hear of other options.

Or if you have more money you can get a 5d which will run you around 500-600 for the body, and you dont really need more than 8megapixels unless you plan on printing pictures that are bigger than a 10x14 or want to crap the out of pictures but even than a lower megapixel with a full frame sensor is going to give a better picture than a 15mp with a APS-C

The Olympus E-620 is most definitely higher than the Canon 40D but the Canon seemed kind of dinky dink to me compared to other Canons I've owned in the past. I was really unimpressed with they last few releases, this comes from someone that used nothing but Canon his entire life. It seems to me that Olympus and Fuji were the ones on top of their game these past few years to me, that is changing now though and it looks like Canon is taking their spot back at top. The biggest part to me is the OP is a beginner and should really get something cheaper and that had lenses and the other accessories, he could have the Olympus with a lens for the same price as the body of the 40D and get 2 lenses for the price of the 5D.
That said I am a bit biased on my camera and its functionality, however i used to love Canon and it wasn't until a particularly bad experience with one of their top of the line DSLRs that I went looking for a new brand. It does look like they have released quite a few nice new DSLRs and hopefully when I a, in the market for a new one they will be king again.
OP, Here is a review for the Canon 40D:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos40d
OP, you have a lot of research to do, you need to figure out what it is you are looking for in a camera and what features are most important to you before you jump in and buy one. You then need to make a decision on how much you're willing to spend and narrow it down to 3-5 cameras that have the features you want out of a camera and then narrow it down to the one you want. Keep in mind that most DSLRs only come with the camera body, they don't have a lens with them unless it specifically says it does,
LancerV is completely right about the 8 megapixel part, it honestly doesn't matter for most uses unless you'll be blowing it up to poster board size. That being said, most DSLRs have between a 10-12 megapixel camera on them. Really the thing that will affect your pictures and how they look is the sensor and not how many megapixels a camera has. That's why the HTC phone with a 4 megapixel, I believe it was 4, camera could take better pictures than any of its competitors, it has an outstanding sensor array on it that beat anything that had ever been put in a phone before and I haven't seen a better sensor array in any of the newer phones. I don't buy a phone for the camera though, that's why I have my DSLR.
Also keep in mind you are getting a cheaper DSLR to begin with until you get used to it and figure out which features you want/need and what is best for your situation.
Some good brands are Olympus, Fuji, Canon, Nikon, and Sony in no particular order.
Yeah pretty much Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Olympus you are arguing over minute points. The key too me is the lenses which is going to cost you in the long haul 3-100x the amount the body ever cost you. My 50mm 1.2L cost 3x as much as the body of my camera
appreciate the starter info guys. that dpreviews website is a great resource for me, thanks for putting me onto a good starting point. I am looking for a camera that does good with motion and sports, as well as something I can use around family events for portraits and people shots... and the occasional landscape shot for the old desktop. I have to continue to learn, but I am not opposed to spending more for a product that I can grow into and maintain a sense of longevity with. I am enjoying the hunting right now, I feel like a kid in a candy store, albeit an exclusive German Chocolatier who only deals with the freshest Colombian cocoa beans.

Well...if you want a nice camera...buy a camera...because phones you cannot add lens...filter...zoom...it is as basic as take a picture and use an app...besides it reads like a commercial for an app...even the camera differences usually boil down to software

And that is exactly what we are talking about if you read the OP.
The Galaxy NX is a DSLR running android instead of a proprietary camera OS. Did you read the OP and responses?
And are way more difference between cameras than *just software*, even between cell phones there is usually a difference between the cameras. What you are thinking of are the features in the app we use on Samsung stock ROMs. Nonetheless we are talking about actual cameras and have been the entire time, he asked about the NX in the OP, so your initial post makes no utter sense.

No its a full DSLR with an APS-C sensor size and look through viewfinder. It actually has pretty impressive specs shooting 20.8fps is pretty decent for a camera that size.

Granted, it still has quite a way to come before I would purchase it as my daily use DSLR. Right now I see Samsung as mainly experimenting with the camera market, with an Android DSLR, trying to figure out the nest way to implement it and have full use of the features.
It's still really really a really nice camera and has amazing potential, once they get the bugs worked out and figure out the best way to tie in the camera into android so you get full use of everything I would definitely buy it.

Yeah my only issue is going to be battery life and I think it was alot of touchscreen controls to modify the settings which would drive me insane

Yeah, I don't think the battery life would be terrible, it would be groundbreaking either, but them taking away a lot of buttons and replacing it with touch controls seems neat but would be a big pain in the ass for anyone using it as a camera that needs to change features frequently. That was on of the things I like the least about it, I understand the need or want to make it more sleek and that requires getting rid of buttons.... But man would it be a pain in the ass to deal with.

Yep and good luck trying to pictures with gloves on.
Just curious why we are having a discussion on the galaxy camera in the note2 forum? Seems out of place since this thread has nothing to do about the phone.

LG G2 Picture and Video thread

I found a couple of G2 photosets on flickr. They look better than the older leaked photos.

Post any other pictures and videos you may find. I know some of you suckers already have the G2 from AT&T. Let me see what you're made of.
Thanks for the links! I am very interested to see how the camera compares to the Note 3. And these pictures look pretty good!
I was definitely going to get the Note 3 until I read it doesn't have OIS, now I am considering the G2... And the price is pretty good also. Only $575 off contract vs $725 for the Note 3 on AT&T.
Yes, those pics look awesome!!

No it doesnt, Note 3 has digital image stabilisation.
Yep, and in my opinion there is HUGE difference between that and hardware OIS...

Well I saw this yesterday
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Camera-shootout-Note-3-vs-Galaxy-S4-vs-G2-vs-iPhone-5-vs-One_id47239
I can't find any definitive proof that the Note 3 doesn't have OIS. The O in OIS stands for optical, so there is no such thing as a digital OIS. That's just simple image stabilization, without the O.
Nvm. Poopoo it doesn't have it. I wasn't planning on getting it anyway. No one bothers to mention it besides dpreview. At least I can rely on them to get the camera specs right.
http://connect.dpreview.com/post/7967117746/hands-on-with-samsung-gaalxy-note-iii
So far the LG G2 is my fallback plan. The Xperia Z1 has established itself as having an awful camera, and screen, and is big and heavy for a small 5". The Note 3 is more of the same. I am sick of my cheap ass built Note 2 with squishy cover. No plans to upgrade to the same thing. My only hope is the Oppo N1 comes out to be amazing, and has a killer camera. All other companies have laid out their disappointing hands.

I would like a bigger screen than my HTC One, but I really like the camera on it and want to see what the G2 is capable of....

There are already a bunch of shootouts and comparisons out there. The HTC camera has only 4MP so it looks blurry no matter what. It couldn't compare to 8MP cameras, much less the newer 13MP ones right now. HTC also has very bad processing with weird colors and heavy sharpening and noise removal. It was one of the best low light shooters on Android, but the G2 can compete with OIS, and has much better resolution.

Most of the pictures I've seen are from reviewers, not average users and that's what I'd like to see.
Just because the HTC One only has 4mp doesn't automatically mean blurry... I'm a crap photographer which I'll readily admit and I've got some great shots on the HTC One by just pointing and clicking. Here are a couple examples... If the G2 can do better, I'll be really happy with it! I'm tempted to head to an AT&T store this morning.

You are right in a way. I have HTC One too but pictures become blur as you start to zoom-in because it is only 4MP. Whereas 13MP on the other hand has 3 times more detail in the picture. And to make the point clear, in a common user perspective G2 can blow HTC one out of water (in camera).
A quick pic I took in my office yesterday. Auto settings, didn't change anything.

Some pics from yesterday, not really trying just pointing and shooting. Also i had changed my lcd density without setting the xposed framework to put the camera back at 480 so auto focus was confused the entire time.

SOLVED! What phone can replace the Nexus 6P [life help]

I decided to get a mint black HTC 10 from swappa, sooo much smaller and everything else is just as great. miss HDR+ but love everything about it. thanks for all your help everyone!
ORIGINAL POST BELOW
So I love my 6P, battery life if not so great but I absolutely love the camera! as do most friends and family always saying my pics look amazing!
Anyway, I really hate having a large brick (nexus 6p) in my pocket. I thought in time I would adjust but it's been over a year and I still dislike how large it is -__- so question is simple.... what phone 5 inch ish would you switch too? as far as camera's go, right now I think Moto G5 Plus is the closest thing (with wide pixels 1.4um) but it seems the phone is kinda big also.
Fire away and help a brother out with phone recommendations! Thanks!
I've had my eyes on OnePlus, but I'm waiting for the 5.

I don't think I could go back to a screen any smaller than 5.5 inches now. It can be unwieldy for sure, so I get that it isn't for everyone. I did love my s6 edge size wise though, and that was only 5.1 inches.

Well every single review says otherwise, and as someone who takes a lot of photos in different conditions, even my s6 edge blew it out of the water. You can subjectively feel how you want, but you're factually wrong.

if u can afford a google pixel then go ahead if not i advice with the Nexus 5x, it has a wonderful camera especially with the HDR+ . but if u want a bigger size then go for the Oneplus 3T. but staying in google phones would be better to keep having the latest software updates.
