checking notifications of a single app - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I need some advice on an app.
I have constantly the data connection turned off and when I need I active it. As I'm often on the pc all important notifications (eg. Viber, Gmail, etc.) I control in real-time via the corresponding desktop applications available for PC but I miss notifications WhatsApp is not available as a desktop version (ok, there is a version that includes wifi active but is not the same thing as Viber for example).
Obviously enough I every X number of hours active the data connection to see if there is a notification but was looking for something more advanced, especially looking app that automatically every 30 minutes active data connection and control me ONLY notifications WhatsApp and that's because I do not care to have other notifications (eg. Viber, Gmail, etc.), I see already from PC. If I have to manually turn on the data connection (eg. I'm at the PC) then I want you to be shown all the notifications.
Is there an app like this?

[Q] Data control

Hi
Whenever the phone has access to the internet, it is using the net for all kind of traffic, even if auto sync and backgroung data are disabled.
Is there any way to control the data of the phone, so only foregroung processes has access to the internet?
The problem is when traveling to another country where the data price is very high, and you just want to send a small email, without all the other processes are using the internet.
I have not rooted my phone.

Email to sync on wifi only?

I want an email similar to the stock cm7 with the option to sync on wifi only. Any recommendations?
Sent from my MB860 on CM7.2.0 Stable
one suggest is to turn data off till u in WiFi area..
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk 2
In my opinion, instead of looking for an email app which allows Sync on wifi only, you should use an Email app which allows 'sync when Background Data turned on' and/or 'Auto Sync' settings is on. The reason is, emails are very important and they should be pushed/pulled on any internet connection you have at anytime/ anywhere. I know saving 3G data charges and/or over heat are your issues in this case, so my recommendation above resolved both of these two issues.
And K-9 Mail is such an app I would like to suggest. You can go to its Settings/Network to find these options.
My solution also means you will use an extra tasker app, such as Locale, Smart Action... for teaching your phone when/where/how long/etc... the Background Data and/or Auto Sync is turned on.
For an example which meets exactly your need, just use Locale to program your phone to turn on Auto Sync when wifi connection connected. This also means you must set Auto Sync always is off by default. That's all.
As for me, I even dont use Locale or Smart Action, but just using K-9 Mail with option of 'Sync when Background data and Auto Sync checked'
Hope this can help,
Thanks for your suggestions

[Q] Push notification issues

As per the title, I have a question regarding push notifications. I currently own a SGS4 for which I can use for testing, however this appears to be happening for all Android devices in this environment.
Whenever an android is connected to the Corporate Wifi here in our office push notifications don't seem to come through at all. This has been noticed to be happening to gmail and facebook however is also stopping push notifications from other apps including but not limited to geonet quake and various games.
The moment the device disconnects from this wireless network, the notifications all come through successfully.
When manually opening apps while on the Corporate Wifi, Gmail for example, the new emails will successfully come through to the app if you request it to update.
Wondering what it could possibly be on this wifi network which is managing to stop all push notifications so that we may attempt to put in a workaround for staff, or alternatively, a workaround to provide all users with android devices to get these working again. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Data connection / app function not "stable" on mobile data - why?

Hi
Sorry for this 'weak' problem description: I'm using 'MySMS' (sync with pc) and Google docs, which both are unreliable on mobile data, but works on wifi.. What can I check?
More :
Docs/Sheets often reports "Unable to open the document right now" (or thereabouts).
MySMS does not sync - send or receive the texts from/to pc - when the phone is in standby/screen off/sleep mode or whatever that should be called. I then have to wake and open the app (sometimes even press Manual Sync) to force the communication active.
On wifi both works, so I feel it's something with the phones 'data deafness'/inactivity, not the apps' fault..?
Data roaming is On. Restrict background data is Off .... Rest of the phones functions seems fine.
TIA
Situation still like this - noone has any suggestions for improving this?
Thanks...

Gmail can't DL attachment on mobile data (but OK on VPN or Wifi!)

I've had this problem for many months on my Samsung S7 (it suddenly appeared). Now that I've bought an S10e I'm very displeased to have the same exact problem again. I didn't transfer anything from the S7 (knowingly. Perhaps some Google/Samsung auto-restoration of settings without my knowledge). The S10e was installed from scratch AFAIK.
Problem:
On the Gmail app downloading attachments on WiFi works fine. On mobile data it never works. It does nothing at all. Hitting preview continuously shows a 0% progress bar.
All other things work without issue on mobile data: Sending and receiving mail, browsing, navigation, YouTube, etc. is normal. Only Gmail attachments don't download...
I don't have adblockers or antivirus. Everything is updated. Gmail isn't on the background data restriction, nor do I use that function.
I tried the private DNS function, that didn't help either. Clearing the app cache and app data didn't help either.
+ VPN.
I spent some hours testing, and most of the time with an active OpenVPN tunnel (all traffic redirect through tunnel) to my home or to my office it works! The moment I disconnect the VPN, it stops working.
(Seems also to work on a LT2P Ipsec tunnel).
Some kind of DNS issues?
I have an older Motorola and an older Sony phone which don't show this problem, so it's not stemming from my Gmail account or my provider.
What can I try to fix this problem?
