[ROOT] How to root Samsung Galaxy J500F. - Samsung Galaxy J5 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello guys...!
Recently I've successfully rooted Samsung Galaxy J5 using CF-Auto-Root-e53g-e53gxx-sme500h.zip (Root files of Galaxy E5)
So I'm sharing this to Galaxy J5 users
My phone build number- LMY48B.J500FXXU1AOFA
Warning : I'm not responsible for your device if bricked.. do it on your own risk.
Requirements: Your phone should be charged at least 40-50%
Make sure that the OEM unlock option in Developer option is enabled otherwise it will prevent flashing process.
Step 1: Download and Install Samsung USB Driver on your computer. If Samsung USB Driver is already installed on your computer then Skip this Step.
Step 2: Download and extract the root files on your computer. https://download.chainfire.eu/718/CF-Root1/CF-Auto-Root-e53g-e53gxx-sme500h.zip?retrieve_file=1
Step 3: Now, Switch off your Smartphone.
Step 4: After switching-off the phone, you need to boot into Download Mode. To boot into download mode Press and hold Volume Down, Home and Power button at same time for 5-8 seconds until download mode is active.
Step 5: In the Download mode you will be able to see a Warning Yellow Triangle Sign. In this situation you have to press the Volume Up key to continue.
Step 6: Now, Open Odin3 (found in the extracted files, that you have downloaded in the Step#2) on your computer. Then connect your Smartphone to the computer.
Step 7: Once you have connected the Smartphone to the computer, Odin will automatically recognize the device and show “Added” message at the lower-left panel.
Step 8: Once your device is detected by Odin, click on the PDA button and select the CF-Auto-Root.tar file (you have downloaded this file in step#2).
Step 9: Now, click on the Start button in Odin to begin the Flashing.
Step 10: Flashing usually takes 30-50 seconds to complete the rooting process on your Samsung Galaxy J5 .Once Rooting process is completed you will be able to see a Green Box with Pass written on it in Odin. During this process Smartphone will re-boot automatically.
Step 11: Once you see, the Pass message in Odin, you can disconnect your Device from the computer.
Step 12: Now, to make sure you have successfully rooted your Samsung galaxy J5,open Applications Menu on your Smartphone and Find SuperSU App. If this app exist on your Smartphone then it means you have successfully rooted your device. Congratulations.
Optional: You can also verify that your device is successfully rooted or not by Root Checker Application.
Hit Thanks cuz i don't have any

Would rooting by this method affect knox ? I want to keep my warranty intact.

Yes it will. Knox will detect changes in Rom and will not be activated.

So, You have lost your warranty ?
If you flashed original stock rom again, you would get warranty back .
Am I correct ?

Are you runnung lollipop 5.1.1 or marshmallow 6.0.1?
---------- Post added at 11:20 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:24 AM ----------
I suggest to root it with TWRP made by Nick Verse for 5.1.1 lollipop and TWRP made by Ganesh Varma for 6.0.1. Besides rooting your phone TWRP is going to be usefull for you in the future like partitioning your sd card or flashing some patches, even at flashing custom roms, kernels etc.

Hey, im having a problem and im hoping someone can give me advice.
I wanted to root the j500fn with android 6.0.1. in a similar way but there seems to be no according autoroot file (.md5) on the internet. There is one for this type of phone but only for previous android versions.
I tried some apps to root without a pc but they dont support it either. So is there something else i can try or should i just wait and hope they release one in the future ?

You could just search a bit more it's all over there man. Also if you look at the comment upon yours I already suggested the rooting way. Do it with twrp recovery by ganesh varma.

Support for Note 3 Neo Duos (SM-N7502), Chainfire CFAUTOROOT Available Now!

I have tried every root technique possible, even the De La Vega method from the OG Note 3, with no success. The N750/N7505 use an Exynos chip that makes the CFAUTOROOT and TWRP builds for those models incompatible with the Qualcomm Duos version.
I've posted the recovery.img in Chainfire's thread, posted my question in the de la vega thread, and requested a TWRP in bigbiff's thread.
Are there any other users searching for support? Is there a way for a non-programmer to create a root solution from guides on XDA? I hope someone takes some interest in this device to at least get root and hopefully a custom recovery for backups. Cheers.
I would glad at least for root.

I desperately want to root my Neo SM-N7502 as well. I nearly bricked mine when I tried the Chainfire root file for N750 - it failed to root and would no longer boot. I had to resort to Samsung's recovery procedure.
I alao tried vroot and oneclick root with no success. Tried chainfire root for 7505 and bricked the phone. So reflashing the original Samsung rom by rom.. Asmed chainfire in his thread and Google+ but atill no answer...
Any further guide will be highly appreciated...
It looks like we have no root possibility right now.

Hello everybody.
I have tried to root my Neo SM-N7502 using the N750 CF Auto Root and of course it failed. Now my phone is bricked.
When I tried to update the firmware using Kies, the process is failing giving me a message that my device's version cannot be updated. I'm now stuck and I don't know what to do next and my device is still bricked. Any ides?
Thank you,
Daniel

Hi. You just download the original rom and flash it with odin.
It worked for me.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2498850
According to this thread from the Note 3 forum, the script"[will] create Root de la Vega for any device that has the necessary hooks." I have downloaded the appropriate stock ROM for the SM-N7502, successfully run the script (which indicates that the necessary system hooks exist), and successfully booted up with the modified ROM.
After that, the thread says to copy over the ROOT files to the sdcard, reboot, then remove the ROOT files, and reboot a final time. The end result, no ROOT. Can someone take a look at the ROOT files and see if we can adjust anything to make it work for our device?
Somehow, the script does not execute the SH file from the ROOT files after reboot... but I do not understand why.

Follow the link posted or goto the cfautoroot page and get the file for our device. Inside the zip are Odin files and the cfautoroot package.
Put the phone in download mode (from powered off, hold vol down and the home key and the power key simultaneously, then press volume up at the confirmation page to continue into download mode).
Once in download mode, connect your phone to your computer and open the Odin app. Click the AP button and select the cfautoroot package. Then click start.
Phone will reboot into cfautoroot mode. Let it do its thing (should see mobile Odin text in red). It will reboot again and boom, done.
Google for directions if you need more detailed instructions, pretty much the se for every device. Thankfully our device doesnt have a locked bootloader to deal with.
Thanks! Done successfully!

[Guide] (Root ) the Official 4.4.2 K.K Rom Mega I9200

Hi Guys,
yesterday i updated my Mega I9200 to the Official 4.4.2 K.K rom
and i found it so great to have this update ... but the only thing bothered me is how to root it !!
i searched alot for away until i found this way that I ALREADY TESTED for mine and
it worked well :victory:
1st : I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY FAILURE / SABOTAGING YOUR DEVICE
as i said before it worked well for me and i just want to share it
for the fellows who have this beautiful device .
2nd : How to Root :
1- charge your device to a good limit ex. over 80% .
2- Take a backup for important stuff (apps-contacts-messages- etc. ) "Just in Case " .
3- Install philz_touch_CWM Recovery :
Download and start Odin 3.07
Download philz_touch_6.25.0-melius3gxx.tar.md5
Add .md5 file to PDA in Odin & Make sure that only F.Reset Time and Auto Reboot are ticked
Now you need to turn off your smartphone and put it into “Download Mode”
To do so, fist make sure that your device is completely turned off & press and hold Volume Down + Home + Power keys
Now using the original USB cable, connect it to PC & If phone is connected correctly, the colour or ID:COM box will change as well
Now just click on the start button
4- by now you have the philz Recovery on your device .
5- after that there is 2 Ways to root you device ( i did the 1st one & worked well )
1st Way :
boot into philz_touch Recovery by turn off your device Press and hold Volume Up + Home + Power buttons
open "philz settings " in recovery and choose " Re-Root the system "
reboot the device normally into the rom
after the device boot up install " superSU " app
and hence you have ROOTED your device
2nd Way :
same as 1st way but instead of open " philz settings " , you choose to install zip from SD Card
choose SuperSU v1.99 zip , that you already downloaded to sd card .
after flashing it , reboot normally and install " super SU " app
and hence you have root
Downloaded Files :
philz_touch_6.25.0-melius3gxx.tar.md5 http://filerio.in/av9q567dc3fr
UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.99.zip http://filerio.in/vmqa4fbzszua
Odin3_v3.07.rar http://filerio.in/rfsww8dayjuz
Hope this was helpful to all of you Guys .
P.S : the forum moderators are welcomed to move the topic to right sector if it's not right .

i don't know is this happened before or after trying this but
a general case of sd card read/write issue after kk update
use this app to fix : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix
but you must root your phone 1st then use this app as it needs root .
Hi Hatem,
it did not work for me, i'm still on 4.2.2 & Knox was installed recently!
i followed the steps but no root or change in the recovery menu whatsoever
any advise would be great
Thanks for the effort anyways
it worked following this guide

When you flash the recovery make sure that you untick auto-reboot option in odin then flash the recovery. When it is done manually reboot the phone by holding the power button for a while and then hold the volume up and home button as soon as it starts to boot.

Here is the main page for downloading flashtool: http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php
Ps.: Since your device is D6502, remember to flash the correct baseband files for your device. Most roms uses the D6503 files, but if there is the necessity, the OP always provides the download link for the correct files for your model. If there is none, ask before flashing if it is supported by your device, or you will get network problems after that.

Flashtool will work with your device, dont worry. I said that because if you are trying to flash a custom rom on your device, you have to know if the rom have support for your model.
Baseband is the partition of the system that "guides" the software to recognize the chip on the logic board of your device to receive GSM signal, that is what you use to make calls and accsess the internet over 3G or 4G. (a very simple explanation)
The difference between D6503 and D6502 models is just the frequence bands that the chip on the logic boards are compatible. So, you have to flash the correct baseband files for your phone to work properly.
I've made it clear? I don't speak english very well because my primary language is Portuguese.

First of all u speak english v well. Don't worry.
Secondly thanks. As of now i just want my device rooted with mm. I accidentally did something wrong when i was on lollipop and i had to repair using PCC. So i m wout root. And now theres this tedious process. But i m ready to do it after reading so much. So no custom roms as of now.
I m only gonna use lollipop firmware in the official thread for my device. That will not cause any baseband issue if I flash it using latest flashtool...right??

No, if its the official firmware from the thread for your device you are ok to go, just make shure to install all the drivers necessary to the connection with your PC for a perfect flash. There is a folder inside of the flashtool install folder called "drivers", make shure that theyre installed. :fingers-crossed:

I have one more question if u don't mind. And i think i ll keep on asking wherever i have doubt. Sorry. First time u see...
After root and recovery of lollipop, i have plans to make pre rooted ftf for MM. I have read in few thread that dual recovery does not work with MM and to use recroot otherwise it gives bootloops. But i saw a youtube video where that guy used dual recovery to make prerooted ftf. And he flashed and succeeded.
Do u have any idea, whats the correct thing?

[ROOT][HOW TO] Going from Stock Lollipop to marshmallow official and root it!!!

I see there are some people wondering how to get the marshmallow update from lollipop
I was on stock lollipop rooted and running xposed, everything was perfect, in order to get marshmallow update and root it I did this
Flashed stock rom using the repair rom found here in xda using sp flash tool www.sw-condor.com/smartphones/A55 slim.html
Once in stock, I updated OTA to marshmallow
Once in marshmallow I flashed only the recovery using the same scatter file from the repair rom and the custom twrp for blu vivo 5
Immediately after flashing twrp, booted recovery (power + vol+, once it vibrates al blu logo appears, release power)
Flashed (latest SuperSu)
Enjoy
Screenshots
Screenshots attached.
Thank you for this.
I have already updated to marshmallow but need to root it. The repair rom link isn't working, I need the scatter file to flash recovery. Got another link?
UPDATE - found an mt6573 scatter file, so that's not an issue, but I can not get SP Tools to flash, it basically sits there and does nothing, then I get an error "can not pass bootrom start command". Any chance of a detailed tutorial with pictures or video?
Thanks,

There's 2 possibilities:
The easy one:
If you have the proper drivers, power off the device, wait 10 seconds or so. Then click download in the sp flash tool and then connect the phone, the tricky part is that YOU NEED TO PUSH VOL+ OR VOL- in order to sp flash tool to recognize the phone and start flashing
The not so easy:
You don't have the proper drivers:
I had to install manually a driver, device manager->Select the first item (the name of your computer)-> Action -> Add legacy hardware
You need to download the drivers and then tell the device manager to look for drivers in the specific folder where you downloaded them, then it will find a device, I don't remember its name, follow this guide
Don't forget to hit thanks if I helped :highfive:
Ok, got this working finally. As for the initial issue with SP flash not working, I'm not sure what it was. I have the drivers and everything, but I rebooted the computer/phone (then turned it off) and then it started working. I did also press the volume button when it was off, that may have helped as I didn't know to do that before.
Next, the scatter file I found on the internet somewhere else wasn't correct. I found the correct link to the recovery ROM (you may want to update it in your initial post): http://www.mediafire.com/download/p29wpz59wg9ob2b/BLU_V0050UU_V09_REPAIR.zip
Other than that your guide worked perfectly, thank you.

Is anyone else having terrible battery life on this after upgrading to Marshmallow?
After doing the update to Marshmallow in this thread, I flashed TWRP and rooted via this thread.
Now my battery life has been absolutely terrible. Before updating to Marshmallow, I could go almost all day, have 35%+ left at night, goto sleep and then wake up with around 20% of battery all the time. Now if I goto sleep with 50% battery it's dead when I wake up. Seems to be "Wlan" and "Phone Idle" using most of the battery as you can see in the screenshot below. Also, after the phone dies and I plug it back in, it always shows as 13-15% battery life right away (odd), so I used a battery calibration app that seemed to do nothing and still same bad battery.
I'm thinking it may be due to me missing the OTA update right before the Marshmallow OTA update. I know it had to do with the radio, could that be it? Does anyone have that in a zip file I could flash via TWRP? If so, would it be ok to do that?
Any ideas would be appreciated, here's a screenshot of battery usage:

Battery life is great on mine, I installed xposed and amplify to block some wakelocks, but even before that, I had a very decent battery life, I read somewhere that you need to let your phone to completeley discharge, not even having enough juice to try to boot when the power button is pressed.
Once is completely dead, charge your phone (keeping the phone off) until it is fully charged.

You could probably try just doing steps 3 through 5. I'm no expert but I think it might work.

The OP is for rooting Marshmallow so I would imagine it would be fine with 6.0.1 as that's still Marshmallow. You would only be flashing recovery (TWRP) if you don't have it already and then using that to flash SuperSU. Nothing very dangerous. Give it a try and let us know.
I think this is for lollypop and have an upgrade to marshmallow. It is not for root 6.0 directly. I would not want to use this .. kingoroot .. kingroot .. 360 .. none worked for me. I only have this method and never did a flash, recovery or a twrp

Nope, read the OP. It's clearly flashing TWRP and SuperSU "AFTER" doing an OTA update to Marshmallow. I have personally done this to my Blu Vivo 5 running the initial Marshmallow update and it works fine.

You will not need to do step 1 or step 2 since you already have Marshmallow.

Question [SOLVED] Cant get into my tablet because of "Can't create work profile because policy prevents custom os"

***UPDATE***
To anyone who comes across this, I fixed the issue by following a guide by @AddictedA1 on this post . Note that your case might be different as in you might be locked out of device and unable to change OEM lock from settings. This was the case with me so I just follwed the FRP/Knox bypass guide, accessed settings, enabled OEM unlocking and the proceeded with the above guide.
If you have any questions then just message me.
***************
So today we were given Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 lites by our state government for promoting technology in the state (elections in a few months go figure).
The issue was that it comes with knox which has government agency as the admin.
I tried rooting by flashing magisk flashed AP following this guide (for samsung galaxy tab A7) but now after startup it asks me to connect to the Internet and, runs a few checks and says "cant create work profile because security policy prevents this on a custom os".
It's just stuck at that message and can't get out of there.
I've never had any Samsung device before so I might be doing something wrong. Any help on how to get out of this is appreciated. Thanks
Well. I faced the same problem. After hours of hit and trail i finally managed to atleast boot back to my previous state i.e Yogi Ji's pic
Solution : I just relocked my bootloader via Download Mode and Flashed latest Firmware ( September Build ) with ODIN Tool. Untill some new development i.e custom ROMs for this device comes i think we are stuck with this lol

The Knox app only stop booting if it detects that bootloader was unlocked or somtheing of similar nature. You can go back to your old state by relocking and flashing stock fw.
i made a quick guide, hope it helps
FIX - "Can't create work profile because policy prevents custom OS"
Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite was distributed by our state government for promoting technology in the state. (JUST ELECTION THINGS) Anyways, the Tabs are coming with Samsung Knox security which cannot be uninstalled, disabled, debloated with adb...
forum.xda-developers.com
Somebody get help or asked some experience in XDA to make a TWRP port for this device or else forget privacy in this.
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN I HAVE SUCCESSFULLY REMOVED KNOX FROM SAMSUNG OS AND WITH NEW WALLAPER LOOKS HEAVEN )))))
