I need help with network unlocking my HTC Desire 626s (T-Mobile) PLEASE HELP! - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know this is a little off topic, but I just bought this phone on T-Mobile prepaid last night, in hopes to pop in my Consumer Cellular SIM and use it. Well, that was shot down because it said the phone is network locked and it needs to have an unlock code to work on other GSM networks. I called and chatted with T-Mobile and they are refusing to give me the network unlock code until I start a prepaid plan with them, spend at least $100 on refill cards, and then they can "request" an unlock code from the appropriate department.
Does anyone know how to network unlock the device without doing it through T-Mobile? I don't know if I trust those cell unlocker websites for network codes that you have to pay money for.
Any other phone I've purchased, like an AT&T prepaid phone, they never require an unlock code. I also called Consumer Cellular and they don't have network unlock codes.

Gotta pay to play, unfortunately. Just use eBay, where you can see reviews and have some buyer protection. I help unlock phones at my job, and I know that blowfish and swiftunlocks.com have been reliable. HTC unlocks are usually done pretty quickly.

Unlocking a Virgin Mobile Canada Phone...?

Hi there,
I emailed Virgin Mobile the other day and asked if they can unlock my phone for me, and they said they currently don't let their members unlock their phones yet. I'm just wondering if there's any service that unlocks a Virgin Mobile phone, but not for GSM network, I'm WCDMA. Thanks for the help.
There are a number of websites that provide unlock codes for typically between $5 and $30. I heard good things about this one, but haven't used it myself:
http://www.mobileincanada.com/How-To-Unlock-Your-Cellphone
Just a quick note: if you plan on switching to Bell, you may not need to unlock your phone. This is according to a few posters on Howard Forums.
Cheers.
Thanks so much for the help!
Same here. My Legend was from Virgin mobile, now on Bell. I didnt need to do anything but switch sim cards.
Yeah, Bell and Virgin are the same network. Bell owns Virgin. But I didn't know that I didn't have to switch SIM cards. Thanks for the help again.
Would a bell phone work on virgin though? Seems weird you don't have to unlock phones. I used unlock roger phones to use on Fido, and Rogers own Fido. Same as bell owning virgin. Maybe they just didn't bother, and people don't really check.
Well my friend and I tried with our phones, he used my Virgin Mobile SIM card in his Bell phone and it worked. But I can't really be %100 it'll work, it was on a Blackberry. If you have a friend on Bell try it out, or you can even email Bell. But the reason you don't have to switch SIM cards between Bell and Virgin is because they're the same company so either way whether with Virgin or Bell, the money is still going to the same people.
unlock virgin mobile iphone 4
I want to unlock the iphone that I bought for 220 and although he said it was with bell it is really with virgin. I called customer support and they said that if I was on pay as you go for 30 days they would unlock it for $75. I suppose this is the best way...

Whoa, whoa, whoa, $75? Go on Kijiji to find some software unlocks for much cheaper, or code unlocks for slightly cheaper. No Canadian should feed Robelus more money, and at that price it's just makes me cringe!

[Q] Unlocking - Need Minor Advice!

Hey Guys,
I live in Ontario, Canada and ended up buying an AT&T Atrix 4G online that was supposed to be unlocked however is not...(I'm with Rogers)
I know the typical unlock method buy purchasing an unlock code from some sites or a local cell phone unlock shop, however I have been hearing about how one can call the service provider and given the right reasons - receive an unlock code from them.
My problem is if I were to try this out, would I call my service provider? Rogers
OR
Would I call the original manufacturer of this phone? AT&T
I do understand that part of the process of getting the unlock code involves the IMEI # of the phone.
Thanks,
If it's an AT&T phone, they will have unlock codes. Worst that can happen is they say no. If they do, pay to get the codes from one of the reputable sites.
mobileincanada is a pretty good site, you might find something cheaper. who knows. sucks that you were lied to overall.
I need to try and find a number I can call from Canada which will allow me to talk to someone from AT&T who realizes my situation...I can't seem to get through.

Sim unlock

What sites do you use to sim unlock HTC Amaze?
I checked a couple and found out they scams - they only take money and do not send out unlock codes. It would be great if those who unlocked would mention sites they used and the unlock cost so that the rest of us could find the best unlock price and would not get into scam unlock sites
just call tmobile, takes 24 for them to email u the code.

I wish I could call them. There is no T-Mobile in Canada and I don't have a T-Mobile phone number which is the first thing they ask.

You can say you're not a T-mobile customer but would like to use their T-mobile phone. Most reps don't really care much, they might try to sell you a contract or whatever, but in the end, they'll just give in and give you the code. Well that's how it was about a year ago. idk if it changed now.
Oh and from what I remembered it is actually much easier to get the code when you're not a customer, because if you were, they'll be asking you why do you want it unlocked and stuff (are you changing carriers) etc etc.
yeah call tmo, I was in mexico unlocking phones, just ask for the IEMI number, and within 2/3 days you get an email with the code, no charge...
This is the first GSM phone I have had and would like to know the benefits to unlocking the SIM card. What can I do with an unlocked SIM? I know if it's unlocked I could use any GSM carrier but what else if any thing?

It only lets you use it with other GSM carriers/providers. That's all. Nothing else.
I called T-Mobile twice and they basically said that since I do not have an account with T-Mobile they can't give me an unlock code. They said I need to call HTC directly. When I called HTC they said that I need to call T-Mobile to get the unlock code.
That's why I would like some reports on what online unlocking services anyone used to unlock the Amaze so that people like me wouldn't get scammed by some website that only take the money and do not provide an unlock code. Also the unlock price would give an idea of what site is the cheapest of the reliable ones.

Usually the prices in Canada are higher than in the states buying a phone off craigslist. I bought it in Seattle for $380. Also I'm not on Telus in Canada and Telus is a CDMA provider. If they offer GSM service it would be the same as of AT&T band. I'm on Wind which operates on the same band as T-Mobile so to make sure my phone works on my carrier I bought a phone from T-Mobile.
I started this thread just to find out what online unlocking sevices are reliable and cost less so that I and other people who buy phones off eBay or craigslist could find an easy way to unlock their phones.
Try http://www.cellunlocker.net/
you can also use:
http://www.htcimeiunlock.com/htc-imei-unlock.php
I've used it to get an unlock code for an Inspire (which I used on the Roger's network) only took 5 min's to receive the code. I'm currently waiting on a response regarding a Telus Amaze unlock code, guess it's no so fast on release day.

I found user reviews where they paid to cellunlocker.net and never got a code nor money back.
I'm going to try http://www.htcimeiunlock.com/htc-imei-unlock.php It costs $25
EDIT: I got the phone unlocked. It took only 5 minutes and $25 to get the code

[Q] Unlocking SIM - Recommendations, please

I've never performed a SIM unlock but I just got an HTC Radar from T-Mobile and am ouside the US.
How can I unlock the SIM Card? I've been looking at the unlockyourphonehtcmodel.com site (just invented that one, but all of those sites are similar). The thing is that all these sites look shady to me.
Has anyone had any luck unlocking SIM for your HTC Radar in one of these sites? If so, on which site? and how much should I pay for it?
Firstly, it's likely that T-Mobile itself would give you the code under these circumstances. You should try calling them and just tell them you paid full price for the phone and intend to travel overseas with it.
If not, htcimeiunlock.com is reputable. I have used them several times, most recently for a Titan. You can enter the IMEI and they'll tell you immediately if they have the code and what it costs (probably $25 for a Radar). If they say you will receive it in 15 minutes, you will receive it in less than 15 minutes after having paid (via paypal).
It's $19.99 on eBay - have a look. I just unlocked one myself for use in Canada on Wind Mobile.

HTC Legend - Help Please

Hi folks,
Bit of an emergency.
My phone has gone belly up and refuses to switch on
I have found a VERY old HTC Legend that i had on a contract with Vodafone
I am now with Orange and have tried to simply put my Orange Sim into it......it doesnt work
Is there anyway that i can unlock it.....pref for free and straight away
While I've never come across a free unlock, carriers are liberally unlocking more devices as time progresses.
What I'd suggest:
1) Buy one online, eBay, or some other SIM-unlock website. ~$15 when I bought it, could be significantly cheaper now. It's fast, very safe, but not free.
2) Ask Vodafone. Since you're out of contract and service with them, if they aren't too different from carriers here in Canada, they'll gladly give you a free or cheaper unlock via phone.
3) Lie. When I bought my ATT HTC One X, it kept saying IMEI blocked on the Sense 4 lock screen. It was purchased 3rd party so I was thinking that it was a stolen device. This wasn't the case and the ATT rep on the phone gave me a free unlock code. Where the lie comes into this is, try retelling my problem in order to claim your unlock code, with the highest sympathies of Vodafone CS, and probably for free.
