Sapphire Glass - Nexus 6P General

I was just watching a video of the keynote in India and the Huawei presenter announced that the glass covering rear camera is sapphire glass ....is this true because that is wonderful news ...haven't heard that anywhere else

I believe all /most lenses are sapphire. A lot of times on phones they are behind plastic, though. On the 6P the entire back visor is gorilla glass 4.

Why would he bother mentioning the lens being sapphire and being scratch proof if its behind GG4 ?
I think when he said lens he was actually talking about this entire rear glass panel.

The glass panel is gorilla glass 4 though.
I believe this was even confirmed by Google at the Google event.

confirmed it is GG4 per Reddit AMA

The camera lens is separated from the "back visor"
Pobably the camers lens is sapphire and the other part of the visor is GG4.

But that is my point.. When the lens is protected at the back by the glass why bother using a sapphire lens

I don't know how many of these people even get invited to these events - I see them using the device & they all look like they've never used an Android Phone before.
Seeing a user constantly clicking the home button when they are already home, I've even seen videos of them not even knowing how to get into the camera settings lol

Lol...To be fair this was the First Nexus launch event in India.
Group seems to be a mix of Jr news channel reporters & budding you tubers
For Indians price & offers was the main slide rest most of the 6p enthusiasts here would know more about the device then those reporters.
Google must have told Huawei & LG to use some big keywords & they would have been confused where to place which keyword....

I agree....after watching those Indian press events and so called "unboxings" I quickly started to realize they were spitting out incorrect info. Stuff like the lens confusion/misinterpretation and they also call the screen superamoled which it is not. It's only amoled. The"super" part in the name is not just Samsung's naming convention/marketing of the screen......it's actually different technology(subpixels) versus regular amoled technology.

Ehm... No.
As of now, every AMOLED display is built like the Samsung's SuperAMOLED, making "SuperAMOLED" just the name of Samsung-branded AMOLED displays.
The "different technology" about subpixels you are talking about is SuperAMOLED Plus (that has RGB matrix instead of PenTile).

It is according to Huawei also.
http://www.gethuawei.com/nexus6p

OK, so the camera lens is sapphire crystal, behind a gorilla glass panel.

Nope.
The GG4 has a "hole" in front of the camera, where there's the sapphire glass. The GG4 is "around" the sapphire, not above it

Not sure I get what you mean - it seems to be one piece on the pics I've seen, and I'm not sure what you said matches with what is described on Huawei's website. Do you mean that the camera assembly sticks out of the GG4 top panel thingy (or sits flush with it)?

Looks like 1 solid GG4 piece with the camera underneith the glass. The only thing sticking out or cut out is the flash.
This could be a render of the phone and not the phone itself though... so. *shrug*

Tempered glass screen protector

Just received my tempered glass screen protector from Singapore and this thing is sick. Fits directly over the entire phone screen and get this...covers the entire Verizon logo on the top! Shipped with unbelievable speed considering it came from overseas. Ordered 8/5 received today with no extra shipping paid. The three capacitive buttons are a little tricky to align but its a perfect fit. Its slightly tinted to give it a privacy effect. For 30$ I couldn't be happier.

Could you post some pics? Also, when you say "tinted", does it negatively affect the display quality at all. Finally, how is touch responsiveness?
I ordered one of these yesterday in black: http://www.ebay.com/itm/RJ3-Ultrath...ne_Screen_Protectors&var=&hash=item3f293398de

$30 Why is the screen protector more expensive than a screen replacement?
I'd pay $30 just to cover up the Verizon logo. That logo is seriously my least favorite part of the phone lol. Also does it actually go all the way to the edge or just to where the screen curves into the bezel?

Not bad, but I didn't line up bottom buttons perfect & some of the black border covers the home button
I would have preferred one without the black border but no other choice for the DNA
Summary - I love tempered glass vs plastic film so this is great & the best available, however, I would go with Mime USA, Spigen or Bear Motion if they had a DNA version . I don't think I'd pay the premium for Bodyguardz.

Scratches over camera lens?

Is there anyone here besides me having these tiny scratches on camera lens? i really doubt that claim of LG that the camera lens is protected with sapphire glass. my phone is totally scratchless even after 2 months of use without any protector, but only the camera lens has got the scratches which is funny as well as annoying or me. though it doesnt make any affect on the camera quality after all but still its so confusing for me that why is it having scratches.
Please see the picture and suggest the way out to remove these scratches or what would be the reason behind them, i have used my set with utmost care.

i have done nothing wrong, i wear comfort fit jeans mostly which are very loose, nothing in my pocket it is really annoying that on one hand LG claims that its a sapphire glass and on the other hand i have these scratches.
Boy those are some scratches indeed. Can it be it's due to sand or something?
For 6 months i have spotless glass on the camera.

THAT is not normal, go RMA your G2
i have found a better way, the picture quality of my phone was not runied till now, i have applied a transparent sticker on the camera lens and the quality is more or less the same. xD its protected now means the scratches wont increase in number, but still...LG whats this :S
It's a little late for this advice now, but a case would have prevented those. The camera is not quite flush with the back, but pretty close. Setting the phone down on the back or having it slide up against anything abrasive could account for scratches like that. Even being in your pocket can cause that kind of stuff. The lens on my last phone rendered the whole camera useless because of the scratches and that lens never saw anything but the inside of my pocket or open air. Unless you have microfiber lined pockets then you can't really say they aren't scratching your lens. Those don't look like normal pocket scratches though. They almost look like someone tried wiping fingerprints off the lens with something that was too coarse. Maybe a zipper hit it or something like that. Anyway, a case would set the lens a little deeper and away from things that could hurt it. I'm thinking that going forward if you want to prevent more damage then you should look into something like that.
This is the only thing preventing me from buying this phone : (
Same issue here, mine scratches are even worse. Photo quality is still good but when there is a lot of light coming through a window or something, the light gets very fuzzy and intense.
No scratches after couple of months.
My phone is flawless and always been in a case but I too have camera lens scratches, never had a scratched lens before even on my Evo... Something is not right with this supposed Sapphire glass.
Could it be that it is just oleophobic layer that is worn off? Very common with all the phones generating these types of threads.
I know for a fact that oleophobic coat on the front screen, indeed does not last very long, resulting in uneven look, where you are touching mostly.
Once all the coating is gone, with time, all is fine again.

Camera lens scratched already

I've had the phone since April 1st and I've been very happy with it, however i just noticed that my camera's cover in the back is already scratched in two places. I have had a case on the phone since day one and I've been very careful with the phone... I'm very disappointed and annoyed that this got scratched up so easily! Has anyone had this happen to them or tested it in a review? Otherwise I like the phone, just seems like very cheap material in the back.
Is there any protector that i can buy to cover the camera that will not effect image quality?
Just found this thread while searching about the scratching, as I just saw scratches on my LED on the rear. I really don't have scratches on the camera lenses themselves, but I see it on the LED. At first I thought it was a piece of forgotten plastic covering, but after carefully picking at the edge of it with a razor blade, it wasn't coming off.
Not sure about some sort of cover for it other than a universal, cut-it-yourself screen protector. Just cut it to fit and install it?
You can get circle glass protector which covers just the lens, I actually have these, or you can get some PET ones that covers the whole camera area.

Why is LG promoting the glass lens?

Don't most phones use a glass lens anyway? I mean the G6 has a Gorila Glass 4 in the camera area. Or do they use a plastic lens with cover glass, and that's what LG is proud of in the V30, the first with a true glass lens and cover glass?
It’s not the exterior , it’s the lenses inside that make up the entire mechanism. These are all glass and make a difference over using plastic len parts.
Better glass optics produce better results. Same with DSLR lenses.
not all of them, just one of them is glass.

But it's apparently still different from what all other OEMs do, otherwise LG wouldn't be promoting it so heavily.

LG V30 will boast wider aperture, ‘world’s clearest’ camera lens
LG V30's camera has the lowest f-stop in a smartphone
LG tells us that the new device, "will include the world’s largest aperture and clearest lens ever to be featured in a smartphone." In real terms, this means that the V30 will, presumably only on the main camera of its dual-cam setup, come with an F1.6 aperture which would be the fastest we have seen on a smartphone camera so far.
In addition, the lens is made form glass instead of the usual plastic materials which, according to LG, delivers improved light transmission over its predecessor and competitors..

LG is calling it the Crystal Clear Lens, and it will be made out of glass rather than plastic, like those on many other smartphones. As depicted in the image above, it will allow V30 owners to shoot photos and videos that are brighter, sharper, and more colorful than ever before.
In comparison, rival devices like the iPhone 7 boast an f/1.7 aperture. LG says its new camera lets in around 25 percent more light. It’s clear that this will be one of the V30’s biggest selling points, and that LG will be marketing the device at those who want even great camera performance from their smartphone.
“LG boasts an unrivaled heritage in smartphone photography and our decision to adopt glass in the V30 camera is specifically because this has traditionally been the realm of DSLRs,” said Juno Cho, president of LG Mobile. “For the users whom the V series was designed, this kind of innovation is significant”.

No. Only one first front lens is glass, others are plastic. But it's improvement, anyways

Official OnePlus6T 3D Tempered Glass Screen Protector UNBOXING

Dear all, I've just received the official OnePlus6T 3D Tempered Glass Screen Protector. Here are some of the photos to share with you guys!
The official protector do have black lines on the long edges, after applying, I think it only cover around 1px screen on each side.
Photos shoot from my OP3.

Why are there so much bubbles under it?

yes, so many bubbles after applying, need to use the cloth to rub the bubbles away.
Does it have that oily hazing effect that the 5t 3D protectors had?
Slightly off topic but I have one tiny bubble on the stock screen protector. What's the best way to remove it? Didn't see the need to post a brand new thread to have it answered.
Poke a needle to pop it? Any other easy way?
does the black boarder cover any part of the screen?

1 px width on each side OP said in his initial post.
I dont understand the merit of those black borders on four sides, can't they make full transparent one.
Typically black boarders are to mask the protector not completely adhering on the edges

I almost ordered the official one.....I think I may go with the TMobile version glass(no black border)....it's $40 but I can get it today instead of 1.5 weeks for the $20(plus 10shipping)
So I am just considering it as same day delivery surcharge. Ha......I have to make reasoning somehow.
I went and looked at the Purearc at TMobile and walked away. It's the same exact width as the crappy ones on Amazon that don't quite reach the edge of the screen. Not worth it in my opinion

What does 1 px mean?

I don't get the company that makes the phone still can't get the right dimensions to avoid coverage of the screen.

That is very stupid of makers to think, even a full transparent one can do the job when the screen has borders itself so it will overlap. Even accurate Size with screen having black borders in tempered glass would have worked as it would just overlap the screen borders but they tend to make a bit shorter which instead add to the already border making the screen shorter from each side. When a mm is making a difference in screen to body ratio to a device now this is really stupid to think a customer will satisfy with that. I will certainly get a case and screen protector as none of my device ever slipped from my hand ever.,?
Did anyone try the official oneplus 3d tempered glass protector with Spigen liquid air case?

Sorry, I haven't used the 5t 3D protectors. So, I can't compare.

When I was running my 3D protector on my 5t it looked like it had permanent grease from a face after being in a heated conversation.

I just used the provided cloth and tool trying to rub the bubbles to the edge.
