How to get rid ofthe pesky small apps from the recently used apps - Xperia Z3v General

Previous version wasnt working on lollipop.................. soooooooooo i made this for people who have no clue. (FOR WINDOWS)
1. Download Adb and make sure it works ( I used a simple installer instead of downloading some developing app and extracting the adb from that)
2. (On Xperia) Open up about phone and tap build number until developer options is available
3. Open a command prompt and type " adb devices " to make sure things are running
4. Connect phone to computer, open developer options and click on, then usb debugging. Type in " adb shell "
5. Type " pm hide com.sony.smallapp.launcher " press enter
6. Type " pm hide com.sony.smallapp.app.widget " press enter once more
7. " exit " " reboot " done.

Xperia Xposed Lollipop has a toggle for them as well

You also can just delete the launcher and framework plus the small apps with a system app remover.

I forgot to mention this is mainly for people without root. With toot obviously you can do this with not problem.

Or just open small app and use the uninstall by clicking the upward arrow on the left then the three dots in the upper right corner.

If you rarely use the recent apps button, or if you use it and don't care that unnecessary crap is in there with it . . . then of course it isn't a big deal. I pretty much use recent apps to navigate through my phone on a constant basis. For me it's a big deal purely because it bothered me to see it so much. I like vanilla

That's not pure Android. Nexus has unlocked bootloader (pure vanilla). Besides the Z3v is water resistant not proof, big difference.

Not sure why things are confusing for you, but I'm plenty happy with my choice. Also, IP68 is waterproof to specific depths. Not just resistant, there's a difference. Just about every phone is water resistant these days

Ubuntu on Note!

Just wanted to let you guys know that Ubuntu runs great on the Note.
I used Ubuntu Installer Pro to fetch the script and Ubuntu image. (on the market)
It runs in androidVNC, but it's still very responsive and fully functional.
Attached a screenshot of Firefox running it.
this is awesome! i'll try it as soon as i get home!
I am a super noob so can you please answer a few questions for me.
Are you running it through a remote desktop?
Or is this a complete operating system running on the phone?
Thank you in advance!

It's weird. It runs within Android, locally on the phone. This means you can tap the home button and go right back to Android.
With this image. You can set the resolution of the screen to 1280x800 rather than getting a custom image for that size.
You also have access to SD and external SD from within Ubuntu.
If you're not using a keyboard + mouse, I recommend setting your input to trackpad (this is in the AndroidVNC settings)
It runs really fast, especially w/ LXDE (it does fine in Gnome too!)
Apps included:
-Firefox
-Thunderbird
-Open Office Suite
-GIMP image editor
-Emacs Text Editor
-Transmission p2p client
-and a lot more
Thank you for all this info.

The market app you mentioned says that the kernel needs to have loop device support. Did you install a custom ROM with that feature? Because the app makes it sound like loop device support isn't part of any stock ROMs.

Turning your phone into a full computer. MHL it to your TV, get a keyboard, etc
This doesn't seem to work 'out of the box' or by following the instructions in the pro app. I configured everything as asked, and put everything in /mnt/sdcard/external_sd/Ubuntu. As soon as the terminal app launches to start ubuntu.sh, it immediately errors because it doesnt have the correct path pre-configured for our phones. So I manually went to the correct path and ran "sh ubuntu.sh" but I was again hit with an error "can't execute /root/init.sh : no such file or directory". This is past my abilities, as I assume that is a path issue within the .img. How are you guys getting ubuntu booted?
Is your note rooted? Almost seems like it can't access that directory.

Multi-Window Idea..

OK bare with me here,
When you pull up recent apps (holding down the home button) long press the app you want and move it to the top window. Then do the same with the app you want on the bottom.
It would be so much more convenient rather than the current method of holding down the back button. Then scrolling apps and setting them, etc.
I don't know if its possible but I thought I would share my idea and maybe get some of these great debs something to mess around with!
What do you guys think?
Sent from my SM-N900V using xda app-developers app
I gotta say i dig it. I am currently not a multiwindow user at all because of its implementation is "too many steps" at the moment.
wow yea that's a great way to implement mw, makes it so much faster to use.
Only issue is if you try to swipe left or right to close apps, you might enable this mode by accident. I think it's a great idea tho, if a dev can whip that up somehow it would be neat
oh and we need mwc that was on the Note II, make every app available in mw
Using the module "mw apps manager" in xposed installer, I have access to all the apps in multi window. I just hate all the steps currently to get what I want.
BTW, this note has so much potential.

Why wait? Root is fun! Plus, with Xposed you don't even need ROMs to do most things. It's more work / trial and error, but you can change so much with the various modules. Go on, look down at your phone. Look at him, sitting there, silently begging to be rooted. To have his full power unleashed. Make your phone happy. Root the **** out of the little guy.

This is great for convenience, but what about discoverability? There's no way you'd ever know this was there unless you read about it. That's fine for us power users, but for a regular user I think Samsung's solution might work better.
I'm not a developer by any means, I'm just wondering how hard this would be.
Long pressing the app thumbnail in recents gives you a context pop-up menu with two options. 'App info' and 'remove from list'.
It would be awesome to add just two more contexts to that menu. 'Add to top multiview window' and 'add to bottom multiview window' or something along those lines.
I would be willing to pay for someone to make this happen!
Multiwindow has been out since roughly the launch of the s3, so about 2 years... Its time to tweak it for convenience.
Sent from my SM-N900V using xda app-developers app
The funny thing is I was thinking about that same method for multi-window last week. That would be a much more convenient method or addition for those who want to use both or keep the current method.

Google Now launcher --press home, then say "Ok Google".

Hey guys,
I really wanted the "Ok Google" from home like I have on my Nexus. After doing this, you can press the home button to wake the device up and then simply say "ok google, remind me to talk to my boss when I get to work". It takes specific versions of the apps to make this work and I located a combination that wiill do the job.
You will need:
Google Play Store installed
Google Search installed from Play Store.
A copy of ADB
Installation
Un-tar.gz this file with whatever program you use for file compression, to a folder called "GoogleLauncher"
Navigate to the "GoogleLauncher" folder,
Using your copy of ADB, type "adb remount", then "adb push *.apk /system/app"
Go to Settings>System>Accessibility>Quick Boot and disable Quick Boot
Reboot your watch.
Conclusion
This worked for me. If you're having problems or you'd like this turned into an app you can download and press a button to perform the tasks above, let me know.

On my S2, Google Now is both part of the Google Launcher and Google Search. For those of us running Loki's EnSec + Operative, does the Google Launcher below replace SmartLauncher as the home action? In other words, are we giving up SmartLauncher / WP8 Launcher / OUI2.0 to get Google Now?

What about making it a flashable zip? Operative includes TWRP, so we should be able to flash system APKs.

Jaskru, I was wondering the same thing. I did what you suggest above back in February, and the OK Google launcher has been an option ever since. Works better than typing, for most stuff.
I am otherwise on unrooted stock, though I do not suggest others use their TrueSmarts unpatched at all.

I remember when we were first trying to do it before Loki came out with the patch + operative we had to push services (velvet.apk) as a system app... Now, when you get the device and install Loki's patch (+operative I think) or Dees rom that has that stuff in it too you have the up to date velvet.apk as a system app. And, of course you need the search.apk too.
That's where I was coming from. If someone is going to try and push an apk as a system app, they may as well just run Loki's script instead. Thanks for sharing though.
Hey @AdamOutler, Have you seen any differences with the battery life? Thanks for the Post, I got it setup the first try. I was just curious as to what I should expect?
Update: For a simple launcher, this is pretty nice. The apps and the drawer fit nicer then Apex did, even with a ton of setup. Smart launcher is nicer than apex, but there's a lot of setup as well. I just launched the Now launcher and it just worked. My apps look nice and the drawer is clear and easy to read. Now all i want is for my watch to do the notifications like the android wear demo!

Stop trolling my thread. You're wrong and now you're looking for loopholes. No, its not in the operative patch. I don't create threads for no reason. Judging by your Post to Thanks ratio, you post unhelpful comments like this one all the time. Just stop it. You're being unhelpful, cluttering the thread, and adding misleading information.

Is anyone getting a substantial amount of google search crashes since setting this up?
I have been using Google Now as one of my three alternative launchers for over a month. It has never crashed. I say, "OK Google.....launch Tapatalk" and it does. "OK Google....call susan" and it asks me whether to use Phone or Skype (Skype started working for me on the TS after some recent update), then places the call.
To enable this, I followed the same guide I used to get Google Now onto my Nexus4 before KitKat was released for it. Best I can remember I just side loaded a couple of apk's using a guide on some android web site like Android Police maybe. It just worked, appearing as a launcher option with the other two I already had in place.
All this was on my stock insecure unpatched 1/8/1900 with the shipping 20140120 firmware and Google Play side loaded as usual.
I've got screencaps ! They are on the TS though, and I cannot type on that thing hardly still.

Hi
I had the same problem with the annoying "What's new"-Thing but it can be disabled with some simple steps. Just open an adb shell and type in "pm block com.sonymobile.advancedwidget.entrance". After rebooting the phone the google icon should be centered again. Also I think your rant about Android L and Sony is quite unjustified since you are complaining about the latest version of Android available

Ah, well, ART is a new experimental runtime introduced in Android KitKat (Which I'm assuming is the version you're using) Now i'm not entirely sure on how ART works (Someone feel free to correct me) but it basically store's all or most of the app to the system which allows the phone to access it faster compared to the current runtime (JIT/Dalvik) which loads the app Just In Time, every time you load it up.
For KitKat
Make sure to make a backup before you attempt this incase anything goes wrong resulting in your phone not being able to boot.
To enable the runtime, just navigate to Developer Options (If not alread enabled, go to Settings > About Device and scroll down to "Build Number" Tap that 7 times and it should give you a prompt telling you it's been enabled.
From there, navigate back to the settings menu and all the way to the bottom. You should now see a developer options listing. Click it and scroll all the way to the bottom to the "Apps" Category. Tap the option "Select Runtime" this should bring up a menu with the option to switch between runtimes. Now just press "Use ART" and press OK on the warning that pops up. You're phone will reboot and will now reinstall all and optimise all of your apps ready for ART mode. You will not lose any of your app data.

You're phone will reboot and will now reinstall all and optimise all of your apps ready for ART mode. You will not lose any of your app data.

Of course you can't...ART is available for KitKat based ROMS only, while FlyingTor is a JB stock ROM.
By the way,he just asked for some alternative apps, so please keep on topic and don't confuse him!

My suggestion is to use fast for facebook as an alternative FB client,it's really lightweight, smooth and fast For Gmail you can try Mailbox(a really good app!)

Waze and mapfactor are turn -by turn navigators like gmaps...Not sure about OsmAnd though

I'm on Xperia Sola. I've both FB & G+ removed.
Use UC Browser to load my FB. Not using G+ much.

Are you on the latest Google Maps? Comparing Waze to Google Maps, Waze is actually heavier to run.
Yet, Waze is still indispensable because its map accuracy is far superior.
i can recommend next as browser, is really fast and stable
