Wireless charger - Sony Xperia M4 Aqua

Can M4 be charged with wireless charger?

As advertised
Yup

No it can't. It doesn't have the hardware

As "stock" hw samsungs have this feature. My friend has QI case for iPhone so he can charge it wireless. I hope that maybe such case for M4 will be available.

To bad :'(

I thought you could

Makes the device look abit thick imo?
Of course, it's a flip case.

If only they could release a back only cover with qi charging. Not a fan of the book style cases
QI charging with such a big battery will end in 6+ hours from 0-100% as the QI Charging current is restricted.

the whole point is to avoid messing with the flaps too much (when you have to plug/unplug microUSB cable) to avoid unnecessary wear & tear...
it takes maybe 2-3 hours to charge my nexus 5(2300mAh) on Qi, probably 3-4 for the z3 (3100mAh)
Yeah, I now. But our Z3 offers a magnetic charging port - which also allows full charging current and this adds no bulk
Also you can charge everywhere and only have to carry a small cable instead of a bulkier QI charger. Or you chan use a dock, whatever you prefer.

Well, the point of Qi is that it's universal. E.g. a Nexus charger will work with a Lumia, will work with a GS4. Z2 and Z3 can't even use the same dock.
I get why Sony used the magnetic charger, the thinnest qi coils are still around 1mm. When the phone is 7.3mm thick, it adds up. But personally, I wouldn't mind a thicker phone, but I understand their reasoning.
I absolutely agree. If QI was readily available for most battery operated devices that would be very convenient. As it is now it does not matter if you buy a magnetic charger or QI, because you have to buy each for your phone.
The Z2 dock works for the Z3 - no problem there.
I'm torn between this and the Style Up cover with the window. I don't see why they couldn't add the smart cover functionality to the Qi case. I upgraded from a Nokia Lumia and I have a couple of wireless chargers at home that I was hoping to continue using.
Then again, this Qi case costs more than the Style Up cover and the dock combined!
The style up cover has been delayed until November 4th according to an email I got from Amazon today.
I did look at the Qi charger for the Z2 but it was/is quite ugly and bulky. So it's mag charger for me. One dock and two plain magnetic connector cables.
I have two Qi charging plates and they're already quite busy charging a N7, G3 and 1520. And they do all take a long time to charge, and the N7 charges to full and then just starts to drain without ever topping up again. So leave it for a few days and it will have charged and then drained. No such problems with the magnetic connector.

My G3 takes 2.5 hours from 2%-100% with a 3000mah battery. Qi charging is fairly fast if you use a 1A output qi charger
USA's Verizon exclusive Z3v has QI built-in, that's actually prety useful if you ask me. I use the magnetic charging on my Z1 but QI would probably be more convenient. Too bad Brazil's model doesn't seem to come with this feature. I just don't get it, why put in on Verizon's model but not on global's. Maybe I'll just stick with my Z1 for longer and get the Z4 when it comes out (hopefully with QI built-in and optical image stabilization)

I don't quite understand that as well. Why does only the Verizon one have it? Maybe they are saving it for the Z4 or they just don't want to implement it into the Z3 that is already in production. I heard that the Z3v is a bit thicker than the regular Z3 because of the Qi Charging.. Besides that, I guess you can get the Charging dock fr the z3 instead. Either way, you won't have to remove the flaps so I guess it works. If the Verizon Z3 had international bands, I'd purchase that one instead (unless the carrier is branded all over the phone).
Verizon will most likely brand the hell out of it. Verizon is also CDMA, not GSM. won't work outside of the states.
I thought all of verizon's LTE phones are unlocked for their sim cards....?

VZ LTE phone has CDMA for voice and GSM for LTE data. GSM portion is NOT locked.

It wont... because the magnetic charge connector on the Xperia Z3 can only receive power and cannot communicate. So there is no way it can detect if a magnetic charger is connected or a Qi chargepad.
Im searching the web for weeks now trying to find a bumper for my Z3 with Qi over magnetic connectors. I dont understand why companies did not come up with that allready. It wouldnt add any more thickness to the bumper, and you could easily charge 1000 mAh. In wich the Phone will charge in 3 to 4 hours i guess. Thats great when charging over night.
I see were you are comming from. The culprit is the QI charging pad output, so you are still left with that low current.

Wireless charging?

Any chance that the Xperia z4 tablet will have wireless charging? Did any of the previous Xperia devices ever have this feature?
To my knowledge, the only Xperia device so far that has had wireless charging has been the Z3v Verizon variant in the US. The z2 and z3 series all have magnetic charging. Not sure about the ones before that. As far as the Z4 Tablet goes, I have seen no mention of wireless charging or magnetic charging, and the images don't show a place for a magnetic charger, so I'm not sure.

Wireless Charging is essentially the transmission of an electrical current from a power source to a receiving device without the use of a physical connection. The electrical current is then used to charge or re-charge the battery of the receiving device. In this circumstance the receiving device can be anything from a smartphone or wearable, to a large industrial forklift.
I dont think so that will happen... Sony will not add :/
I feel as if Sony would have mentioned or advertised it. Plus, that's quite a large pad.
yes, sure sony will add this feature
Er.. how exactly? I see no contacts where a dock connector could charge it semi-wireless and no spec sheet says anything about it having hardware for any true wireless charging in it.
I suspect Sony thought because the USB port does not need a flap like the previous models there is not as much need for a charging dock. For myself they are likely right. There is for me no huge difference convenience wise between putting the unit into a dock or plugging in a cable (assuming the cable is already there anyway).

problem with z2 and samsung EP-TA20EWE charger

Hello there.
I bought a xperia z2 to replace my lg g3 . The phone is great. At the box it had a ep880 charger which not only was ugly but it was charging my phone slow (compared to my g3 at least).
I decided to buy a better charger and i bought the samsung EP-TA20EWE . The problem is that the phone is not charging with this charger at all.
I tested it at other devices and the charger works great. I replaced the usb cable and still nothing.
The phone charges fine either with its own charger or if i connect it to a computer.
Is there any idea why is this happening ??
PS. i do not own the official usb cable of samsung's charger, dont know if that matters..
Just use the Sony charger. Xperias are very very picky about chargers.
That is what i am doing. But i was really curious about why is this happening

S8+: Does it matter what brand you use for a WIRELESS CHARGER?

Should I use the one by Samsung so as not to degrade the battery?
or it doesn't matter at all?
What brands would you recommend?
It doesn't matter. I use 2 official wireless chargers and one 3rd party pleeson brand.
Not one difference.

I don't know, after the latest system update on verizon my 3rd party wireless charger stopped working. Only charges about 20% then stops.
Shouldn't be. But I'm waiting for the new convertible one to be on sale.
No problem with my choetech stand fast wireless charger.
The S8 supports most wireless chargers, but it's best to make sure the charger you pick was made for at least the S7 if you want to get the wireless fast charge function.
The transmitter for the wireless charger also needs to line up with the right spot on your phone or it might not make a proper connection. I had this issue with my S6 where the spot on the phone was lower than the charger, so I had to put something below the phone to line it up with the charger.
Just saw this fast wireless charger deals on Slickdeals! Hope useful for you: https://slickdeals.net/f/10178316-choetech-qi-wireless-charging-stand-for-galaxy-note-5-s8-s7-s6-edge-and-more-16-ac-fsss?src=SiteSearchV2_SearchBarV2Algo1
I snagged the official 2017 wireless charger for a steal at best buy. I showed them an online add from cdw and they took it!!! Only cause it was the last one in stock and they wanted to slang it quick. Lady at the register was surprised I got the deal.
Bought a Tronsmart Chocolate Bar charger. Works just fine, though I plan to move the charger circuit (replacing the microUSB port with a soldered USB cable or even a QC3.0 power brick) into a 3D printed phone stand.
I have a normal diy wireless charging coil. It heard up more than it charges.
I bought a Black Web wireless charger from Walmart originally as a temporary charger until we got in the Samsung one. Honestly not going to bother. It works well enough, no heat and holds the phone at 100% once charged.
I looked around on Amazon and it seems to be identical to several they sell, just different branding.
I'm content at the moment, was only $20.
My Nexus 6 charger worked only at normal speeds. I like the magnet in it so ordered magnets to attempt to modify the Blackweb charger. They aren't necessarily needed, just something I want to attempt.

H930 Wireless Charging

I have this belkin wireless charger
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01M5JEUYE?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_pd_title
I place the phone on it without a case and a red light turns on which means it's not accepting a charge but it detects something. Is my wireless charging busted on my phone or is it the wireless charger?
Went and bought this one.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B077PQT5M3/ref=oh_aui_i_sh_pre_o0_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Gonna use the wall adapter that came with my phone and see if it works.
If there is anything I can do with the Belkin one, please let me know. Otherwise I'll return it. Btw I'm running stock Oreo on this phone. 8.0.0 20r (old stock firmware for bootloader unlock purposes. Gotta get on that.)
Needs to have a QC 3.0 wall adapter plugged into it for it to work with our phone.
I have the bigger version of that OMARS charger. Don't expect the full 15w. The 15w "fast wireless charging" is a retarded feature that doesn't work because of thermal throttling.
Just buy the Anker Powerwave. It's on sale right now with code ANKER002
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B...6e3530149c00INT&_encoding=UTF8&tag=slickdeals
Despite it only maxing out at 10W, it has an internal fan so it actually charges faster than the OMARS pad.
Go figure

Ankers website states that the LG V30 will only charge at 5w with this wireless charger. Not a bad deal but I would like 10w charging at least.

I actually just got the Anker Powerwave, and for some reason it won't charge at all using their QC 3.0 AC adapter. It will only work with the QC 3.0 charger I have from ZTE for my Axon 7. No idea why.
